Premise: Unofficial Quidditch game!
Date: 10 December 2025
Time: 10:00
Weather: Damp, cold, drizzly.
Moderator: Livia Machavariani (yours truly)
Debuff fouls.
One could not expect a Quidditch game to be clean. This was not a fact that particularly troubled Livia, who had modestly proposed to include such behaviour in the sport of duelling. However, an integral part of cheating successfully was that the cheater not be caught. Elena, as she thrust her elbows towards Maisie, seemed to have ability. Livia lifted her eyebrows and narrowed her eyes, but her gaze caught on Elena's face rather than her offending arms. Perhaps it was because she had only previously observed Elena in the dimly-lit shadows of the library at night, but something about her appeared different in the daylight. She frowned. This was something she would have to analyse later.

Althea, though, who flew towards Elena, did not have the same cheating finesse. She appeared to be flying directly in the path of the Snitch. Although her manoeuvre, most certainly, was functional, it also resulted in a tsk from Livia. 'Valeden, penalty. That was very obvious.'

Reducio
Initiative as Althea's action would affect Elena's:
Althea: d100: 47
Elena: d100: 51
Elena goes first

Elena is cobbing Maisie.
Elena accuracy: d20: 20 + 11 = 31
Maisie evasion: d20: 6 + 12 = 18.
31 > 18 -> robbed.
Cheat DC is 22 +2 (6th sense) = 24.
wis DC: d20: 15 + 12 = 27 > 24. Elena is not caught

Althea is snitch blocking Elena
acc + 5: d20: 11 + 16 = 27
Elena Eva: d20: 2 + 10 = 12
snitch is blocked, she has -10 to acc & has to repeat part of chase phase

Cheat DC is 25
Althea wis: d20: 9 + 10 = 19. She is caught

Second-string actions.

On the bench, Zephyr and Aodhan leaned over to each other and whispered secret words of strategy. Ripley seemed to have the same idea, although Violence, next to him, was not very receptive. Livia's frown deepened as loud cheers echoed from the Wonderbolts' side of the pitch, followed by boos from the Pegasi. Did it really take so much decorum to sit silently and watch a game?

Reducio
Aodhan + Zephyr strategise, combined wis DC 20
d20: 3 + 10 + 2 + 5 = 20 = 20 (success)

Lily cheer for Graci, str DC 8
d20: 13 + 5 = 18 > 8 (success)

Frederick boo Elena, str DC 8
d20: 13 + 4 = 17 > 8 (success)

The Quaffle.

The Quaffle game was quite sharp now. Amelia and Cecilia had to tussle for it a bit before Cecilia ripped it away, but Maisie was keen on blocking. In fact, there was only one instance in which Maisie was unable to block one of Cecilia's scoring attempts; Livia called out a warm, '10 points to the... wonderbolts?' Truly, she did not understand these names.

Reducio
Cecilia & Amelia are Quaffle grabbing, Maisie is blocking.

QG1:
Cecilia: d20: 9 + 9 = 18
Amelia: d20: 10 + 8 = 18
Str check
Cecilia: d20: 19 + 4 = 23
Amelia: d20: 12 + 2 = 14
23 > 14 -> Cecilia grabs the Quaffle

vs Maisie (who has -2 acc from the cob earlier)
Cecilia: d20: 2 + 9 = 11
Maisie: d20: 6 + 13 = 19. Blocked.

QG2
Cecilia: d20: 20 + 19 = 29
Amelia: d20: 8 + 18 = 26
29 > 26 -> Cecilia grabs the Quaffle

vs Maisie
Cecilia: d20: 19 + 9 = 28
Maisie: d20: 4 + 13 = 17

+ 10 to Wonderbolts

QG3
Cecilia: d20: 20 + 9 = 29
Amelia: d20: 20 + 8 = 28
29 > 28 -> Cecilia grabs the Quaffle

vs Maisie
Cecilia: d20: 4 + 9 = 13
Maisie: d20: 15 + 13 = 28
28 > 13 -> blocked.

QG4
Cecilia: d20: 15 + 9 = 24
Amelia: d20: 1 + 8 = 9 (-50 dmg)
24 > 9 -> Cecilia grabs the Quaffle

vs Maisie
Cecilia: d20: 16 + 9 = 25
Maisie: d20: 20 + 13 = 33
33 > 25 -> blocked.

QG5
Cecilia: d20: 7 + 9 = 16
Amelia: d20: 6 + 8 = 14
16 > 14 -> Cecilia grabs the Quaffle

vs Maisie
Cecilia: d20: 6 + 9 = 15
Maisie: d20: 4 + 13 = 17
17 > 15 -> blocked.

Beaters.

Although the Snitch remained the simplest way to perform acquisition of points, the individuals within the game simply ignored its beautiful golden splendour in favour of rougher, more violent delights. The Snitch, for its own part, did barrel rolls in and out of the hoops on the Pegasi side of the pitch. It even did a spiral dive, emulating certain Seekers! But no one other than Livia, who was enamoured by its intricacy, cared.

After all, what Quidditch player did not want to aggressively whack their foe? What Quidditch player did not want to wave their friend from the horrors of whacking? It appeared that those on each team had rather impressive foresight. Right as Avery prepared to strike, Sabrina appeared in front of her and seemed to wish to get in her way. It did not faze her; she continued to strike at Graci... who had planned an interception of her own.

Graci had sent a bludger careening towards someone, but Rosaline easily intercepted it and sent it back in her direction. 'Oh, is that what they call a mirrorball?' Livia asked, intrigued.

Although Graci was able to evade her own intercepted bludger, she was unable to dodge the strike from Sabrina, and she was sent falling, falling, falling...

Reducio
Graci is attempting to bludger Althea, Sabrina is attempting to do a bludger intercept at Avery, Avery is attempting to bludger Graci, Rosaline is attempting to bludger intercept Graci

Sabrina intercept vs Avery
Sabrina accuracy +7: d20: 12 + 14 = 26
Avery accuracy: d20: 18 + 10 = 28
28 > 26, it keeps on going towards... GRACI
(I accidentally did an extra accuracy roll for Avery, but the outcome would not change either way)
Graci moon trimmer auto dodge (proc on 10): d10: 6. Does not proc.
Evasion: d20: 6 + 9 = 15
28 > 15, hit.
700 HP - 750 DMG = -50, she is eligible for stamina check, DC 21
Sta: d20: 20 + 7 = 27, success. She can be saved

Rosaline intercept vs Graci
Rosa acc + 7: d20: 8 + 13 = 21
Graci acc: d20: 6 + 10 = 16
21 > 16, success
t!choose -> Graci
Moontrimmer autododge (proc on 10): d10: 10. procs.

Blatchers & saves.

Livia lifted an eyebrow, intrigued, as the girl who had moderated her most embarrassing failure yet chased after one Maisie Gemmell. Maisie was easily a MVP of her team; only once had she let a score attempt through her iron-walled blocks. Verity came close – very close – but Maisie was able to dodge by a hair. 'Engels, penalty!' Livia called, a smile on her lips.

Meanwhile, Charlotte was able to securely catch the falling Graci on her broom.

Reducio
Verity is blatching Maisie
CP: d10: 3. does not proc.
Accuracy: d20: 9 + 11 = 20
Evasion: d20: 11 + 10 = 21

Dodges
Outcome:
The Pegasi
20
The Wonderbolts
10
  • Cecilia scores 10 points for the Wonderbolts
  • Aodhan & Zephyr successfully strategise
  • Frederick boos Elena
  • Lily cheers for Graci
  • Althea successfully snitch blocks Elena
  • Elena successfully cobs Maisie
  • Sabrina fails to intercept Avery's bludger at Graci, which KOBs her. She is sharing a broom with Charlotte.
  • Rosaline successfully intercepts Graci's bludger attempt at Althea. It is redirected at Graci, but she dodges.
  • Verity and Althea have to perform a penalty lap next round.

There a bump; she was sure of it as she saw Elena flying by. But there had been no whistle and she was unsure exactly what happened because it had been so fast. But amongst Avery's team encouragement, it sure felt like someone had elbowed her. Rubbing her arm, Maisie tried not to think about it. All that mattered was the hoops.

And Cecilia kept coming and coming and coming for these hoops. In the distance, she could see Amelia trying her best to go for the quaffle, but luck was against her. The ginger girl—the smartest at the Drowned Palace—prevailed with ease. Another person (Costanza came to mind) might have taken the opportunity to mock or jeer, but Maisie just kept her eyes straight ahead and tried to keep her brown eyes on that bright red quaffle.

Somehow—she didn't actually know how—she blocked every single one of Cecilia's shots, save one. There was an ease to being up here—space, freedom, creativity—that she had never found on the block. Up here it wasn't her against Costanza. It wasn't her against Cecilia. It was her against herself. And strangely, it was a fight she seemed to be winning. "Looks like you got me that time!" she called out to Cecilia to congratulate her on the one goal she did manage to sneak past her.

It was in the middle of this friendly gesture that she saw another opposing player swoop right past her—and nearly into her. All this time, she'd been frightened of bludgers, but it was a player who nearly got the best of her. She could have seen it coming, considering Percy's earlier action (had he completed that lap yet?), but it still struck her as surprising considering she wasn't a Seeker. Her eyes flit briefly to check on Althea, but she was quick to pull away from the situation here. She recognized the younger girl from broomracing as the one she'd disarmed. Perhaps she was just attempting to settle the score, but Maisie held fast to her broom.

For perhaps the first time in a sport, she was doing well—really well—and she was not going to let that go without a fight.

The difficult part of being a second-string was that Vera was not initially considered in the first few rounds of strategy, thinking there would not be any reason for Tatiana to go down so quickly. She had an idea, of course. Block any quaffles coming towards the goal posts, keep an eye out on the rest of the field in case anyone needed any extra support, and so on. She had an idea, but nothing concrete.

Now that she was in the air, however, the lack of clear direction was... daunting. Vera hovered by the goal posts for only a minute before deciding it was hardly worth the effort. Cecilia was doing a splendid job of grabbing all of them from the opposing chaser. Vera's energy could be better spent doing something productive rather than wait for nothing.

Quidditch involved no spells, meaning Vera didn't and wouldn't be allowed to have her wand on the field except for, perhaps, emergency landings in the case of her imminent fall. But not wanting to risk it snapping in half during said fall, she left it by the Hufflepuff locker rooms. A bit too far for her liking, but at least not at risk of breaking. However, that, of course, meant she couldn't cast a spell as her action. Cecilia was fine, so there was no need for her support there. The beaters... Well, Vera wasn't holding a beater bat, so how could she help there? It was hard to see, but it seemed Elena had found the snitch just fine and was in the midst of chasing after it as the opposing seeker tried to block her (and failed). So what else...?

She took a quick look at who the beaters were targeting, then headed straight to the opposite side of the field. With Cecilia trying to score, Vera figured the other keeper would be distracted enough. Only, the distinct lack of her presence on her team's goal post led to Livia calling her out just as Vera was about to hit Maisie.

"Engels, penalty!"

"I didn't even manage to blatch them," she huffed. She steered her broom to the edges of the field but continued to mumble to herself. "So beaters can knock people out with flying metal balls but I can't even bump them on the shoulder just a little bit. What a joke."

Althea was by no means an athletic, sports-obssessed type of person. She had been interested and invested enough to read about sports like broom-racing, sure, but for sports like Quidditch, she mainly browsed through the in-between filler of moves and fouls to "get to the good part" where she found out who won. After all, victory was most important for most sports, wasn't it?

Hence, when Althea had finally entered an unexpected headspace of focus after Leo had been brutally eliminated, her mind thought of only one thing, rules be damned: "Make life difficult for the opponents at all cost." When Althea thought she saw Elena begin to make a move, she instinctively swerved forward. Then–

Livia's voice rang clear in the pitch, "Valeden, penalty. That was very obvious."

Althea startled at the voice, then instinctively, she frowned and the urge to debate rose. In a game where they jabbed elbows into each other and sent metal balls ricocheting off bats at one another, surely being a visual nuisance cannot possibly be a foul. Though in the game's defence, she had tried to read everything about Quidditch and its rules, it apparently just so happened that she didn't read the part about the fouls and how her blocking sight of the snitch was a foul. As soon as she realised the extent of her oversight, the embarrassment hit. She sighed, turning aside to do her penalty lap without a protest.

Perhaps Althea should take her godfather's offer to hear him out on Quidditch mechanics... She was a mess in the pitch.

One would describe, if asked, the moon-eyed, starlit faced prefect as someone following rules by the book. Whether it was the anxiety gripping her bowels or a moral affliction, none would tell — still, Elena was not one to tiptoe around the preestablished guidelines, save for her nightly adventures. Though a tribunal might allow her to walk free, given the innate state of boredom one quickly reached when met face to face with the same walls, every night, laying eyes wide opened. Wandering through the moonlit castle had become rather a necessity than truly a defiance of the rules she abided by.

So, why would someone clutching her beloved guidelines this badly would fly straight towards an innocent person, and throw a rather unkind set of elbows ? The answer was more complicated than mere ill intentioned thought : a true compilation of hazardous circumstances. First, the anger searing through the moonchild's heart at the sight of their keeper being so shamelessly tackled to the ground by an irreverent opponent, and the despair at witnessing the adversary keeper block every last of their sun blaze haired chaser. Then, Elena somehow found herself in front of said keeper, flying straight towards her in a desperate attempt at locking hands into the snitch. The pinacle of this unfortunate chain of event was the deliberate action of the opponent seeker, blonde locks blocking her path. Do their team think they will loose if they don't cheat, or what ?

Rage flared through her body as she cast a venomous gaze towards the person flying in her path, forcing her to diverge towards the brunette keeping the rings. Was it a subconscious action of her psyche, or a deliberate effect of her anger — still is, elbows flew towards the keeper, who she seconds later identified as the lovely bird who had knitted her a beautiful navy scarf, a few months prior. I'M SORRYYYYYY I'M SO SORRYYY. Innerly screaming, the raven flew past this cursed area, stomach plummeting as Livia rose her voice to call out cheating, aimed at the opposite seeker, who was now categorised as someone Elena definitely didn't appreciate. Hmmh. Deserved.

The whole occurrence, added to the strong willed boos of a benched boy, had left her disoriented in her search for the snitch. Luckily, the fleeting golden ball had remained within range, and she resumed her chase.

From the corner of the eye, she spotted the ethereal fox-eyed girl managing to score a goal, and a smile instantly curved her lips. Not knowing her name, she still opted to encourage her, "YES, WAY TO GO !"

Perhaps, in some odd world of broom sports, karma is real. Obviously, Graci did not believe in karma, or much of anything for that matter, but in these instances it seemed to be that, or rotten luck. First broom racing, and now quidditch, it seemed the sky was simply not her place. Or something weird and poetic of the sort. She wasn't feeling very poetic, just a little bruised. Okay, a lotta bruised.

Bludgers; the number one recommended way to be legally beaten up by schoolmates. That was Graci's view on the matter, at least. She didn't mind the cold weather, or the fact that they were already down a player 0r two, with the number swiftly climbing. What she did mind, was being knocked off of her broom. Well, a borrowed broom, but the broom she was on nonetheless.

Alas, such are the pains of short lived victories. Ugh. Again, the question of why she had signed up in the first place took the forefront of her mind. Dumb desicions all around. To think some people enjoyed the sport was a rather difficult thing. Why would someone in their right mind choose the chance to be dropped from immense heights, even with the knowledge you wouldn't actually hit the ground hard enough to break something?

Left with no reply, Sabrina's lips lost their previously upturned form, now pressed tightly together as she silently regreted her decison to talk at all.

Palms pressed harshly against the wood under her, her fingers drumming against it, she steered her broom away from the other girl, thoughts steering in different direction as well. Last time it went well. Last time she played on the filed, she and her fellow beater hit the bludger - hard enough to send their unfortunate victim tumbling off their broom - and when she turned to him with a cheer and introduction, he returned her a bright attitude.

She didn't hold the negative change against the brunette - or maybe she did, she wasn't sure. Her thoughts spiraled, caught in a tornado of emotions she was afraid would come and would rather not get caught up in.

Whipping her head around, she searched for a physical distraction from the realm of mind. She needed to get her head in the game, make an escape from the inner cold crawling it's way up her throad and swirling within her chest. Her eyes set on a Griffindor girl looking roughly her age with a bat in hand: one of the opposite team's beaters (@Avery Gray). Bingo.

Changing the course of her flight, she attempted to get in the girl's way, her bat ready to deflect her blow when - she missed. Terribly. Arm wrapped around herself, bat hanging behind her shoulder from the impact when it was met with thin air instead of a solid object the little witch was torn between laughter and tears.

XX𝓥iolence watched as the game finally began with the shrill sound of the whistle, and the players mounted their brooms and rose up in the air. She instantly spotted Amelia and Cecilia quarreling for the Quaffle. Cece seemed to be chaotic in her attempt to grab it and Violence did a little clap of her own as she saw Amelia grab the quaffle and zoom past Tatiana to get two scores. Violence instantly leaned forward on the bench, her interest in the game increasing.

Further away from the hoops, she saw the Seekers of both the teams look excited. Her heart thudded in her chest as she realised that both Althea and Elena had located the Snitch flying somewhere on the ground. She hoped Althea would catch it faster than her opponent. Capturing the snitch meant winning the game. The faster they caught the snitch, the quicker Violence would go back to her dorm.

Violence watched Leo take the hit for Valeden as Sabrina and Graci tried to hit her. An oof left her mouth as she watched Noxley be hurt. On the other side of the pitch, she saw Percy zooming towards Tatiana and she knew what was happening. Her eyes turned into slits, unable to watch Tatiana’s figure falling down. A boy next to her cheered, and Violence instantly ducked her head, hand covering her ear, but she joined in, “I agree! This gives us a good head start.”

Violence stood up, shouting as she saw Elena cheating in the game, “Hey, that’s a clear foul, hello??” She quickly realised that Livia would not notice the foul, but was even more frustrated when Althea got a penalty. She stomped back to her bench, her face now irritated. Cecilia getting a shot only worsened her mood. She saw Avery’s dive get intercepted by the Sabrina girl and was almost ready to get up and walk away but then she saw that Rosaline sent a bludger flying towards Graci and she was sent falling down to the ground. Her heartbeat fastened as she saw Maisie almost getting blatched but a sense of relief washed over her when she got out and Verity was given a penalty lap.

The rage in Violence made her want to enter the match and play for herself. She didn’t want the beaters on her team to be knocked off but she also wanted to show the opposite team who the boss was. Unfortunately, she had to resign to the benches for now.

Since Frederick had arrived after both teams had already been formed, and after everyone was already in the air, it took him a while to figure out which teams were which and who was flying, especially since he didn’t have any Omnioculars, binoculars, or anything like that. He spent some time staring upward, scanning the sky and the players until he could piece together who belonged to which team. He didn’t know all of the players, but a few faces were familiar.

He noticed that Rosaline, Althea, Avery, and Percival were on the same team as him, and he cheered when he saw Rosa and Avery successfully pulling off their plays as Beaters. Then, when he realized that the opposing team’s Seeker seemed to have spotted the Snitch, Fred didn’t hesitate to boo in her direction, hoping she wouldn’t manage to catch the tiny golden ball. The Seeker looked older; he didn’t know her and had nothing personal against her, he just hoped she’d lose control of her broom and veer off course away from the Golden Snitch.

Watching the other players, Frederick also cheered when his team’s Keeper cleanly blocked the Chasers’ attempts. He paid closer attention to Maisie’s movements than to anyone else’s, making mental notes that might help him in his own performance as Gryffindor’s Keeper. Unlike the matches he’d played for his House team, in this game he felt much calmer and was able to think more rationally, noticing details that nerves usually wouldn’t allow him to catch.

When Maisie was nearly knocked off her broom, Fred held his breath for a moment. As much as he wanted to play, it wasn’t a good idea to shake up a team that was already winning. That said, it was best if the Keeper stayed unharmed and kept defending the hoops. “Whew, that was close,” he commented to his fellow substitutes on the bench, even though he didn’t know them and wasn’t expecting a reply. His attention remained fixed on the match.

As the chaos of a Quidditch match continued all around her, Geneva was forced to accept a humbling fact. Despite whatever visions she may or may not have had before the game of being some sort of emerging prodigy, the truth remained: she was pretty useless on this team. The only remotely helpful thing she'd done all match was passively create another obstacle on the pitch for opposing chasers to dodge. Otherwise she'd just sat on her broom, overwhelmed, flying feebly back and forth in an attempt to join the others who were much too fast for her.

This was one experience, although certainly not the first, where Geneva was reminded how little books will help you in a game of skill. Of course she'd read Quidditch Through The Ages, as well as several other books on the sport, but they were worthless to her now! What she needed was speed, agility, and a control of her broom that she certainly did not have. If only this field was a dance floor, she thought ruefully.

Her thoughts were turned back to the field as she noticed the opposing seeker (Elena, perhaps? she wasn't sure of her name) sticking her elbows out at Maisie, who just escaped being knocked off her broom. Geneva knew enough to at least recognize that as cheating. She waited for Livia to call a foul, but instead she called out one of the Pegasi chasers.

Fuming at the injustice, Geneva finally realized what she had missed. If Maisie really had been knocked off her broom just then, Geneva would have been too slow to save her. Scolding herself, she resolved to try harder. She was not about to let her first match be a waste.

Looking around, she asked herself how she could possibly help the team now, when the Quaffle game was so intense. Cecilia's intense focus was forcing Amelia and Maisie to meet her with the same. If only she could be distracted somehow...
