what i’ve understood is that dm means like direct message, so like a message to one person. i guess a “message” is like a post/message in a forum like Let’s Chat, and in group chats. they essentially mean the same thing but i think it grew as more slang when discord was made, i think. don’t quote me on this! i’m just providing the information i’ve learned.

See, my tutor was asking us for availability for taking performance workshops and she was saying, "send me a message (in which she means a private one to her) or a DM" and I'm kinda thinking aren't they... The same thing?
