Beauxbatons, the French Academy of Magic, consists of the students from a vast array of different countries and cultures. To honor this, Beauxbatons offers a surprisingly unique touch to this holiday. On the October 31st, students are invited to attend lessons wearing costumes. The Crafting Club helps everyone create lanterns. In some countries, it's believed that putting out the lanterns will ward off evil spirits, while in others they are simply used as decorations. Beauxbatons welcomes each interpretation with open arms.
The Great Hall carries the atmosphere of mystery, something truly unique. Candles fill the space with a dim light, adding to the festive feeling of the coming holiday. The air carries the smell of pine and pumpkins. There is a table where students can place candles to honor the deceased, in keeping with the traditions of some countries.
Tonight, the students are invited to spend Halloween in the ballroom. Wearing the variety of costumes, they can reflect their own traditions, adding to the atmosphere of the holiday within the grand castle. The ballroom is filled with the same pine and pumpkins scent and dim light from the candles. These candles are enchanted to ensure the safety of the students on this special day, which unites each tradition and culture represented by the students and staff.
Music fills the air, and students are encouraged to dance. Those who are thirsty or find themselves hungry can come to the table, situated on the left from the entrance. Biscuits and sweets shaped like pumpkins and magical creatures are placed near drinks, which are served in glasses shaped like pumpkins.
For those who would like to compete for the most unique costume, there is an opportunity to shine. One hour into the Halloween party, the music will stop, and students will be invited to participate or simply watch the show. Participants will come to the center of the ballroom, one by one, to showcase their costumes and describe them in the most unique way they can. At the end, the winners will receive a small gift.
Students are also invited to move to the Small Hall to craft their own lanterns to place in their dorms or give as gifts to their friends. There, they will find tables stocked with all the necessary materials. The smell of pine and pumpkins, as if following them, never changes. This room, like the rest of the castle, is decorated with pumpkins and candles. Enchantments ensure the safety of the students and staff.
The following day is another holiday for some of the students and staff. All Saints' Day. Those who celebrate it will be provided with everything necessary to spend the day according to their traditions.

Halloween was one of Cinder’s favourite times of year – a day all about fear and dark creatures. And it was a chance to get out of the stuffy baby blue dress, and wear a costume to lessons, so she’d dressed up as a pirate for the daytime, so that she didn’t have to take off her eyepatch. However, when she heard about a party in the ballroom, she knew what she was going to do. After a particularly long final lesson, she ran upstairs to the dorm, and rummaged through her wardrobe before she found the perfect costume – a green and black dress, with a matching masquerade mask, that perfectly covered her scars, and meant that, for once, she was able to see out of both eyes. She changed into her new costume, before half walking, half running back downstairs to the ballroom. As she entered, the first thing she noticed was the wonderful smell – a mix of pine needles and pumpkins. “I wonder if I can get a scent diffuser of this for my room” she whispered to herself, before looking round the room some more. She saw a table with a few lit candles on it, and went over intrigued, before seeing a sign that it was to honour those who have passed away. She picked up one of the non-lit candles, and lit it, placing it on the table – for her mum. After staring into the flame for a few moments, she shook herself, and went to get a drink from a small table next to the door. Cinder was about to walk away, holding a cup of pumpkin juice, when she stopped, noting something that she’d just seen – extremely cute biscuits shaped as magical creatures, including dragons! “I’ve got to try one of these!” she murmured, picking one up and biting into it. It was perfectly soft and crumbly, and tasted of vanilla. Just then, the music stopped, and the head teacher said that there was an opportunity to show off, and explain, your costume, and possibly receive a prize for it! Cinder knew she had to take part, to stepped up towards the middle of the room, where there was an empty space. She spun around, before saying, “My outfit is a classic masquerade outfit, like the ones from Venice. However, this dress was made by my Grandma, and we used to have little Halloween parties, like this one, at my house, where we would invite round some of our friends, and my family would wear costumes like this!” After pausing for a few seconds, Cinder smiled a little bit, and walked away to the edge of the room, to watch everyone else present their costumes. |
