Valentine's Day had snuck up on the young Ravenclaw much faster than expected. She had struggled with deciding on what to do and for who... Her and Dale had still felt more like friends than anything else and even with her butterflies she didn't want to overstep. She had made some small favors for Ruthie and a couple of her friends, tiny chocolates and truffles had come in the mail from her parents that she had begged for last week knowing she could split them up between everyone. Still... there was one thing that she still needed to grab. Something a little extra for Dale. So that had led her to a quick exchange with some boy outside, totally trustworthy chocoball. Whether he would appreciate it or not, Lark wasn't sure. She wasn't even sure of her own feelings and felt a bit mixed up now and again.
There had been a couple of times she had run into Dale throughout the day but lost her nerve giving the tiny pink box filled with treats to him. Mostly she had stumbled over her own words instead and kept thinking back to how he had slipped away during the Valentines Tea event. It had sucked the wind from her sails and made her simply shrink away as Dale continued on his way. Trailing a couple of fifth year boys into the Great Hall, Lark squeezed behind them trying to get to the Ravenclaw table. All that was on her mind now was lunch. Morning classes had been exceptionally long and the thought of a warm grilled cheese made her mouth water.
She took a seat at one of the corners of the table, tossing her bag on the bench next to her. Stretching her arms behind her back, Lark pulled her silver hair to one side and set the tiny pink parcel next to the plate in front of her. "Maybe I should just forget it.." She bit at her lower lip anxiously.

Located on the far side of the Great Hall, the Slytherin table was not an ideal place for eavesdropping. At best he could sit on the bench facing the Ravenclaw table, but the Ravenclaws always seemed to keep their nose out of trouble. More often than not, Flash allowed himself to actually take a break from his intel gathering and just enjoy a meal. Today in particular he had worked up an enormous appetite and was ready to feast.
At least he about to, until he saw a familiar girl walking by somberly, casting her bag down like it held the weight of the world. She sighed, mumbling quietly to herself. "Maybe I should just forget it..."
It wasn't something Flash could just outright ignore-- it was Miss Lark Flaer, and she was in some measure of distress. There was plenty of time yet to eat, and fragile emotions where best explored before they had time to simmer down and reconsider. Having sat nearly right behind him, Flash needed only turn around in his seat to face her.
"Miss Lark?" Flash paused to give her time to be surprised that she was being addressed, which she took full advantage of by gasping and putting her hand to her heart as she turned around to see him. Her expression softened a bit when she recognized who it was, so he continued. "Is something troubling you?"

Getting caught up in her worries and thoughts, Lark tried to curb her anxiety by focusing on some of the food the house elves continued to kindly supply the students and staff living at Hogwarts. Her stomach clenched at a couple of the options, an anxious gnawing feeling getting the best of her. Perhaps skipping a meal would be best... she could always- "Oh!" Lark yelped as she was shocked by a sudden voice behind her.
Her pulse slowed as her eyes settled on a familiar and kind face. Flash! "H..hey!" She lowered her hand and let out a small breath. "Sorry I didn't realize you were right there." She felt awful for having overlooked him, her mind working overtime on other things. It made her feel rather guilty...
"I sort of well.." Now her troubles just seemed pretty insignificant. Having the chance to bring them up out in the open felt like it made them even smaller. "Well.." Trying to muster an ounce of courage, Lark turned in her seat to face Flash head on. "With y'know.. Valentine's Day an' all I just thought I would give someone.. somethin'.." She used her elbow to push the box of chocolates a little closer behind her. "I'm just not sure I can really do it." Feeling her cheeks flush slightly at the thought of handing out a box of chocolates to Dale only for him to brush it off after what happened at Tea... maybe she had just read into things. It was all making her feel even more nervous voicing it to someone other than Ruthie.
"What uh.. what about you?" A bit desperate to change the topic, Lark decided to focus on Flash instead. She wasn't sure how much boys really wanted to talk about other boys... let alone girls having troubles with said boys and well... now her brain was in overdrive again making her fidget absent-mindedly with the hem of her jumper.
OOC: Sorry this took forever! I know we missed the cutoff for the candy but wanted to still sort of play this thread out Dx

At first it seemed he had startled her, but once she saw his face, she was able to relax right away. She had to have been shrouded in her thoughts to be so taken off guard. After the tension left her face however, she replaced it with a guilty smile. Flash didn’t get to spend much time with the girl yet, but she seemed very earnest and sensitive. He thought it would be best to take a delicate approach with her.
Without saying anything more, Lark turned around in her seat to face him as well. Very trusting too, it seemed. Though he abhorred the stereotype, most of the other students were wary of Slytherins until proven otherwise. Flash had his own biases about houses himself, though he gathered them through practical data gathering. Ravenclaws were an interesting breed, and perhaps his favorite if he had to choose. Even though he agreed that Slytherin was most suited to him, aside from hating the location of the dorms, he would have gladly been a Ravenclaw as well. After all, his brother Valerius was a Ravenclaw alumni, and he had nothing but respect for him.
Perhaps it was that reverence he had which Lark was able to identify in him. That, or she simply opened up to anyone who was kind to her. Their original meeting had been a bit of a whimsical one, there were lots of young girls who willingly idealized him, even upon first meeting. He didn’t think someone clever enough to be in Ravenclaw would be so easily charmed by a nice word and a big smile, but there was always room for an outlier.
When she started to explain her woes, she shuffled around the words, as if not wanting to say them. A boy she wanted to give chocolate to, and her courage to do so being challenged. To Flash, the concern was almost quaint. He couldn’t imagine being afraid to give someone something, let alone something almost universally favorable as chocolates on Valentine’s Day. There were some who flamboyantly disowned the day, crying out about the injustice of being single, but even they would likely accept free sweets if given the opportunity.
At least with a concern so simple, Flash could easily offer his help. That was… unless…
It wasn’t a factor he had planned to consider, but there was a reading of what she said that gave another possibility. What if that short first meeting had left a large impression on her? What if she bought the chocolates for him, and too bashful to speak, sat behind him with exasperation, hoping he would ask her what was wrong. It was, at least, possible. He had to be careful what he said, to assure he didn’t step on any of her feelings.
”Me? I’m not doing anything in particular for Valentine’s Day.” Flash tried to give a disarming smile, something easy and relaxed. ”Which means I have time to help you if you like. Do you need some encouragement, or maybe I could hand them over for you?”
