Wizards Batting Badgers & Snakes Finished

ROUND FOUR
Choosing to turn a blind eye to Erin and Erik’s confrontation (thanks to the smoke that prevented her from even seeing anything), @Santario Martin decided it was to earn some points for her house. The Hufflepuffs had been winning for the entire game now. This had to stop. With a perfect stance and steel focus the girl managed to bat her ball for a good 21 metres. Earning Slytherin 42 points!

@Bridget Collins had a look of pure determination in her eyes - unwilling to give in to losing to the badgers or this smoke. She wanted revenge, of course she did. But perhaps revenge would be best served by hitting a shot that would help her house to win. She steadied herself as best as she could and swung as the ball came towards her. Whether it was her determination or pure luck, Bridget managed to hit the ball 20 metres - scoring an extra 40 points for her team!

@Erin Ryan - as Erin does - was on an attacking spree. She went from trying to steal the ball from Professor Browne to attacking a random Hufflepuff to turning on her own teammates. Her wrath grew and her plan got more vicious. She had to stop thinking about the Head of Hufflepuff and turn her attention to the smaller boy, whose ass she wanted to kick. Erin grabbed a bat and attempted to swing at Erik, hoping to hit him. Perhaps it was the smoke, perhaps it was just bad luck but either way, she missed. By a lot. The beater might have been good at swinging bludgers left, right and centre on the pitch but today, she ended up swinging her bat right out of her hand and it just went flying into a tree.

@Thora Larkston decided that slow and steady was the way to win this. She gripped her bat, taking a stand on the batting line in the hopes of catching up to Hufflepuff’s points. Slytherin was her house, after all. And she definitely started to play like it was - with a beautiful shot that went 21 metres into the distance. Thora earned her house a further 42 points! That might be enough.

@Erik Tharaldson retaliated to Erin’s physically attack with a magical approach. He attempted to disarm her, hoping to stop her from hitting her with the bat that she was trying to swing in his direction. He missed. But he was lucky - so did Erin. Erin’s bat went flying off as she let go off it by mistake. But Erik’s spell was also not successful. He had failed to cast expelliarmus. Instead of disarming Erin, he accidentally ended up disarming himself. The blackthorn wand went flying out of his grasp and landed a couple of metres away from him.

@Annie Morgan was a Hufflepuff, through and through. The Slytherins might be cunning, they might try and distract her. But she was a Hufflepuff. She was not going down easily. She knew what toil meant and she was willing to give it her all. Every ounce of sweat was given to the cause. Annie swung the bat as hard as she could - and it paid off. The ball went a staggering 26 metres away - earning the badgers another 52 points. She was not going to give up, not without a fight.

@Teiki Laurent stayed as focused as she could - trying not to let herself get distracted by the other team that seemed to be falling apart. She kept her eyes on the ball, gripping the bat with all of her strength. WHACK! The sound of the ball connecting to her bat echoed in the air as she sent the ball flying off. It went up high before landing 17 metres away. Teiki’s focus had earned her another 34 points.

[EVERYONE]
The smoke around the players started to fade, dispersing into the air. The fumos had finally ended, given people the chance to actually see clearly once more. They could see the ball coming towards them more clearly, they could see the fight breaking out, they could see everything.

Hjørdis quirked an eyebrow as her eyes fell onto two of her students. Erin and Erik. The two Es. Both were standing near each other, unarmed - and seemingly innocent. Not too far from Erik was a wand on the ground. Not too far from Erin, on the other side, there was a bat on the ground. Both were a few metres away - in different directions - but it definitely caused the professor to be a little suspicious. The smoke had done a brilliant job of hiding the evidence of their fight so far. Sadly, as the field cleared up, that advantage was lost.

The Slytherins had very narrowly taken the lead - could they hold onto it? Or would the badgers grab the victory that they had been on track for this whole time? Would the snakes fall apart as their team starting in-fighting or was this just a tactic?

Another good hit! She seemed to be on quite the roll despite not being all that physically strong she was still earning for her team. As the smoke started to clear her sapphire eyes shifted over to Erin and Erik and she knew Erin well enough that this was too close for comfort. The young Slytherin shifted away from them a little bit she did not want to allow them to be the cause of distraction and quite honestly, she was over it. Regardless of being Erik’s friend if he wanted to start a feud with Erin, she would have no part in it because Erin was terrifying.

She knew if the other Hufflepuffs batted well there was still an easy chance for them to take the game. Realistically if they did it would be well earned considering two of her teammates couldn’t seem to get their crap together. Just like in the quidditch game the Puffs worked hard and seemed to be fierce competitors regardless of what people said about their house. “We can do this guys!” She tried to up the morale of her other teammates as she, again, mimicked her stance from before and took a deep breath to help her focus while she looked over at Professor Browne waiting for him to send another ball her way.

Sweaty palms were to blame as the bat became slick and shot from her hand as she wielded the weapon only briefly. The bat would make a single twirl as it was thrown behind her and then bounced off the ground. That was fine, she did not need a bat to kick the preppy boy's ass. Last time she checked she had two perfectly good hands. It was stupid to take Erik on unarmed, well she had a wand but she was not pointing it at him. Erik, however was. It might as well have been a gun, those rods of power were more devastating than her fists by far but not nearly as satisfying.

Maybe Erik's hands were sweaty as well. Maybe he was flailing that little bit of blackthorn wood about too recklessly. In either case, the result was the same -- the wand was sent flying. Erin was going to take him down before he could recover his weapon. She would run at him, like a 45kg linebacker (I would guess a flanker would be similar in rugby, no clue what non Americans play besides soccer). Despite her size, she was might. Perhaps not werewolf mighty, but she could hold her own.

Her goal: to tackle Erik to the ground and beat his ass before the likely Professor's pet was rescued by one of the Heads of House.

Action: Attempts to tackle Erik to the ground.

With a satisfying crack, Bridget's bat connected dead-center with the ball tossed at her, sending it flying much farther than she'd accomplished previously. She wasn't the only one either--both Thora and Santario hit their balls pretty far and as a result of their success, Slytherin took the lead.

But for how long? As the smoke faded away, visibility was cleared and, of course, two Slytherins just had to be attacking each other. The bit of a smile she'd displayed while returning to the back of the batting line was quickly replaced with annoyance. Bridget let out a little groan--they were going to either kill each other or lose Slytherin the game. Still, the people in question were none other than Erin Ryan, her fellow beater who she was more scared of than she would ever admit and a boy in her year she didn't want to cross either. Best leave them to themselves then.

Facing the front of the line again, Bridget tapped the fingers of her free hand against her leg, feeling anxious. The game was nearly over, and her next swing was going to matter a lot. She could only hope Santario and Thora managed such impressive hits again too, but all she could control was herself. And, well, this was their rematch against Hufflepuff. She had to play her part.

Annie huffed and blew her bangs out of her face. Granted she did an okay hit her team was now falling behind. It wasn't he fault only @Teiki Laurent and herself showed up. Her face started sinking, getting ready to admit defeat to the Slytherins but they still had a change right?

Being outnumbered sucked but Annie still wasn't out of this game yet. She clenched her jaw and glanced around the field. "We are most likely going to loose but hey if we loose only by a bit that's not too bad, sure it will suck but granted it's only two of us compared to about 5ish of them I'd say it's a win.. yeah!" Her expression turned into a small smile after she talked to herself in her head. She glanced over at Teiki and made sure to tall loud enough for everyone to hear. "Win or loose I don't care, Slytherin you have been good rivals, it's always a pleasure playing against you guys."

With all of Annie's positivity radiating off of her in waves she went to take her position. Her eyes and face expression calmed back down as she focused. Grabbing a bat and taking a slow inhale she got ready to swing. Last chance, here we go.."

It was improvement that Teiki had actually hit the ball. So, despite being behind, she was still rather impressed with herself. And Annie Morgan. After all, she had been their main point-getter. It seemed that the rest of their team had fluttered away, but the Slytherin team also seemed to be facing some similar problems. After all, they could now clearly see the fight going on between two of the snakes.

She perked up slightly when Annie began talking, turning slightly to face her. She offered a smile and a nod in return, eyes a little wide with awe. After all, Annie had already become a role model to the younger badger. A MentorPuff... HuffleMentor? Either way, the girl bounced on her toes slightly, anticipation begin to flow through her. The score was rather close, less than a 5 point difference. Luck and skill could help them out, but a team would, too. After all, it was a team sport- and teams were generally more than 2 people.

“You got this, Annie.” She said it lightly, a happy expression. In all honesty, she was just glad that she had decided to come out here, despite not being all that athletic. She grabbed a bat, hopping up to the line when it was her turn.

May was so angry. It wasn’t proper for a hufflepuff to be angry, but....she couldn’t help it! She was a very competitive girl, and, needed that winning substance every time there was a game and things.... she couldn’t help it! Slytherins were winning!

It was time to take action. Proper ones.
She concentrated hard on the bat she was holding, practiced swiftly how she was going to handle the situation. Before coming to Hogwarts, when she had discovered she was a witch, May Researched for some time, into Hogwarts, a History. She saw that Salazar Slytherin and Goodrich Gryffindor were special enemies, so May always had thought Gryffindor and Slytherin were mostly rivals. She even thought that Ravenclaws and Hufflepuff didn’t have much problems with other houses, and that they were pacific. But that, my friends, was not true. Hufflepuffs and Slytherins were very, very competitive indeed.... But In a fun way.

Anyways, the Slytherins were winning this game.
And May did not like that.
She looked at her friend Annie, and at the the Hufflepuff. She smiled at them and nodded. One day, May would want to become a quidditch player. She decided she would make some research on it, and start learning. At least, this game thought her, that Hufflepuffs sometimes had to bite hard.

This was intended to just be a game, and Thora supposed when it was all over it was just for some good fun, but it seemed like more than that to her. It was a rivalry. This was Hufflepuff. She didn't believe in stereotypes, and so didn't look down on the Badgers for being sickly nice or whatever they were supposed to be. But losing to them again--especially with the Quidditch loss still fresh on Thora's mind--would simply be humiliating.

Thankfully, they had pulled ahead, many of the sneks having scored points. And although Thora hadn't scored the most points--no doubt thanks to her noodle arms--she'd definitely contributed to their tiny margin of a lead. It was definitely a boost for the girl's low morale and confidence, and was part of what pushed her to maintain a grip on the unfamiliar bat--despite having played second string beater for a couple of months--rather than reaching for her wand, a more familiar tool. Or weapon. It all depended on your intentions.

"Come on, sneks!" Thora added her voice to Santario's as the younger girl called out to the rest of the small team. They'd been playing for quite a while, and if this was the last chance she would get to score, she had to make it count. So, a rosy-cheeked Thora stepped into the end of the queue, bat clutched in freezing hands. Slytherin had climbed to the top from a slow start. Now, if only they could keep this up for just a little longer…

"I'm here! I'm here!" Aaron called as he ran towards the game. The black-haired first-year was late, and he knew it. The event was already in progress - in fact, he'd seen the pitch covered in smoke just moments ago - but he was eager to see if he could still join in. When he'd heard about this match of Wizard Batting against Slytherin, he'd been so excited. The first year was waitlisted for the Quidditch team, so in the meantime, he wanted to help Hufflepuff in any way he could.

After checking with Professor Browne that it was fine to join in this last round, Aaron got in the queue to bat. He was freezing cold in just his yellow-striped cricket jumper and school uniform pants, but he hadn't had any time to get more protection from the elements. Wearing no gloves, hat or scarf meant his exposed skin was very pink from running through the cold weather, but it wasn't going to stop him from helping his team.

As his turn approached, Aaron grabbed one of the bats. His cold fingers wrapped around the grip. He had never held a beater's bat before, but his obsession with Quidditch meant he was excited. Even though he wanted to be a Chaser for the team, understanding the other roles was important, too.

So with a determined attitude, the young athlete approached the batter's spot and looked towards the pitcher. Aaron had to make up for missing the majority of the game. It would be embarrassing if he came in late because he read the time wrong, AND he didn't score his team any points.

Professor Jensen - the Slytherin Head of House - pitched a ball, and Aaron swung.
