Nice bumping into you.
Aaron was beyond late for Potions, but he didn't care all that much. In fact, he was dreading the class. They had been assigned an essay, and if there was one thing he couldn't stand, it was homework. Specifically essays and written assignments. He was fine with practical homework, like going out and gathering herbs for Herbology or practicing spells in his free time. But anything written was a struggle for him, because he couldn't always articulate what he wanted to say. And having length requirements made it even worse.
The truth was, Aaron hadn't written a single word of his Potions essay, and there was really no excuse aside from him not wanting to do it. He couldn't tell that to the professor, though.
Aaron sighed heavily as he stood up from his spot at the Hufflepuff table. He'd been in this position lots of times before, but it never made it easier. He just had to bite the bullet, get scolded, and then move on with his young eleven-year-old life. As he shuffled through the Small Hall so he could head to Potions, a strawberry blonde girl caught his eye. He grinned at the sight of her.
"Hey, Lydia," Aaron called out, suddenly not so bummed out. Lydia was a kind friend, but she was always hounding him about schoolwork. Of course, she meant well and she reminded him a lot of his brother in that regard. But to see her standing here in the Small Hall chatting with a friend when they were supposed to be in class? It was really amusing to him. She'd been caught in the hypocrite's hut.
"You know you're late for Potions, right?" he teased, struggling to contain his amusement at the situation. Of course, he wasn't being mean about it, but he just knew she was going to freak out. It was probably her first time being late to a class, if he had to guess. Aaron kept walking by, wondering if she and her friend would join him in going to Potions, or if they genuinely had other plans.

Nice bumping into you.
The thought of having a class about magic art made Lydia extremely excited. Of course she knew that it was highly improbable that it would happen, but she could still dream about it.
“Math was definitely one of my least favourite subjects in muggle school. Too many rules and complicated stuff,” Lydia admitted, shrugging her shoulders, “at least here we don’t have it anymore!”
She had never liked math too much in her old school; it wasn’t that she was bad at it, she just found it too boring, and it never properly sparked curiosity in her.
“It’s definitely their loss. Art it’s such a vast field! With a little bit of creativity one can create and entire universe, its amazing!” Lydia said passionately.
When she was still in muggle school and didn’t know anything about magic, she had always believed that her future job would have been related to arts. It didn’t matter if it was being a painter, a musician or even an architect, as long as her curiosity and imagination were satisfied.
Aaron’s voice surprised Lydia, still mid-thinking about arts, and she smiled at him.
Her smile didn’t last long though, because his words sent the girl in a little panic mode.
She had completely forgot about her class, and she hadn’t realised how late it actually was. She also knew that Aaron’s teasing tone wasn’t mean, they had been friends for a while now, and she would also tease him everytime they were studying together.
Lydia’s face became red from the anxiety, and she shook her head.
“I didn’t realise it was this late!” she said with a panicky tone of voice. She then noticed that Aaron had just kept walking, going towards the potion classroom.
She looked back at Leah with an apologetic smile.
“Do you wanna come with us to class?” she asked her, and then started walking as well toward the door, sure that Leah would have followed her as well.

Nice bumping into you.
Leah grinned at Lydia, delighted to have found someone else who could agree with her. So many people had told her that maths was more useful, more interesting, more normal, but Leah had always insisted that it wasn't nearly as good as art. And here, in a magic school of all places, she had finally found someone who agreed with her! Thank goodness!
Of course, there was the odd issue of Lydia referring to it as 'math', but Leah decided she could ask her about that later. She'd never heard that short name for mathematics before, but hey, maybe it was a dialect thing? Whatever, she thought. The point is that she agrees with me!
Just as she was about to reply, a boy came out of nowhere and starting talking to Lydia. Leah blinked in surprise but listened anyway. They were planning to go to class? But only five minutes ago, it had been very early, she and Lydia had only just been talking about it... right?
Checking the time, she realised with a gasp that she was dreadfully wrong. "Not again!" she exclaimed in horror. "I'm going to be late again!"
Which, yeah, she shouldn't have been surprised about. She wasn't exactly a role model (and it was a relief she didn't have any younger siblings to inspire) and being late was almost inevitable.
"Of course," she said, before amending, "I'll come with you if you don't mind!"

Nice bumping into you.
"Of course I don't mind!" Lydia reassured the girl, "Otherwise I wouldn't have asked you to come,"
Lydia felt really nervous at the idea of being late for class, it had never happened to her before, not even in her muggle school. She really hoped that the Professor wouldn't have take any points off from her house, considering that the three of them were all from Hufflepuff. Or maybe the Professor would have been late as well! If that would have been the case, then they had nothing to worry about.
"Thank you again for helping me with my books; next time I'll make sure to bring way less," Lydia said as she smiled to her new friend. Despite the way they had met - bumping into people was definitely not the best way to make new friends - Lydia was really happy it happened. Now she had a new potential friend, and she really couldn't wait to go talking to some paintings with Leah. She was pretty sure that Leah would have gotten along with Aaron as well, so she made a mental note to remember to introduce them to each other later.
They soon reached Aaron, and together they walked out of the Small Hall.
