Flash waved Katrina goodbye, recognizing that she must have felt a bit out of place with the Slytherins chatting at their table. He had to remember to be more inclusive in groups, most of his work had been done for one-on-one conversations. There were still so many challenges left to master. Learning only a bit about the elusive Gryffindor, he waved to her as she left.

Opeila on the other hand was still content to continue the conversation. Unfortunately, he had thought, he had started talking about the topic of family, which he usually avoided out of hand. However on this occasion, she revealed something particularly intriguing. She alluded to a sister of hers, and then corrected herself, as if trying to strike it from the record. She couldn’t know yet what kind of person Flash was, but he wasn’t going to take a comment like that lightly, or shrug it off. He would keep that in mind until he discovered its meaning.

Now was hardly the time to drill her about it, though. This was supposed to be a light, enjoyable conversation. A first impression. It was most polite to act as though it didn’t happen. That’s what she wanted, for him to move past it, for now. She tried to distract from her mistake by changing the subject to Flash’s family, and for her comfort he decided to relent, at least the surface level information.

”None of them are at Hogwarts now besides me,” Flash leaned back, trying to look relaxed even though he didn’t enjoy describing his family life to people, ”I have two older brothers, and older sister, and one younger brother.”

This was the exact amount of information he usually gave. It was direct and informative. Usually it begged further questions, or many times people would exclaim what a big family it was. Flash had seen bigger. It wasn’t unusual for influential families to have a lot of children. It raised the chances of having at least one of them carrying on the family name with honor. This generation of the Holmwood family didn’t have such a need. They were so successful that Flash was just… redundant.

He didn’t want those questions. He had to change the subject again. He grabbed an apple to eat, something easy and small that he could take with him when he inevitably went to go on his daily rounds. He didn’t tend to spend much time in the Great Hall eating. As far as he could tell, it was much better for talking.

”But I don’t feel like talking about them. Right now I’m focusing on my studies. On making friends.” A bright, inquisitive smile. ”For instance, I’m glad to have made your acquaintance, Miss Opeila. It’s been lovely talking to you.”

Opeila was relieved that Flash kept talking about his family instead of asking further, although he seemed uncomfortable doing so. It was clear, that he had noticed her bad attempt of overplaying her sentence.
He told her about his siblings. Two older brother, an older sister and a younger brother. Opeila imagined having four brothers. That must be a full house, probably annoying, but also a lot of fun. There must be always someone to talk to. That was entirely different from Opeila's family. Her parents were gone so much, only on the weekends she got to see Lady Margary.

"I guess, you're never alone when you are there then, are you?", she asked him, a second before he said, that he didn't feel like talking about them. "I'm sorry. You don't need to answer then.", she quickly added.

He was focused on studying and making friends. The Slytherin wished that she could do that... But she wasn't disciplined enough.
"It was great to meet you as well, Flash.", she said and smiled at the boy. He was definitely a nice person to talk to. The first year girl quickly glanced at her watch. "Oh! I've got to go." She was almost to late for her history lesson. "See you around!"
Opeila got up and left the Great Hall.
