Interacting with @Pax Zhang Date - 01/12/24 WC 238/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts It was nearly Christmas, a holiday Mylo loved as it meant they could spend more time with their family. Especially as he could see the reactions to the presents they got them, that was honestly their favourite part of the holiday.
This year though they'd be able to give them a surprise even before the day itself, something Mylo wasn't sure they'd even see coming. It had been an idea they'd had for a while now, already having brought the supplies to school last time they came back, but they just hadn't gotten round to doing anything with it.
But now that they had an afternoon to themselves, already having finished all the homework they still had left, and had finally talked themselves into going down to the bathrooms and doing it they stood in front of the mirror. The packet of hair dye in front of them, along with all the other supplies they'd need, looking a lot more daunting than he'd expect an inanimate object to look.
And they looked lost. Not sure where to start as this wasn't something Mylo had done before they decided the best course of action would be to reread the instructions on the back of the packet, the same instructions they'd already read like 30 times to make sure they weren't missing anything. Hoping that doing that would magically help them understand exactly how and what they needed to do.

Dyeing to meet you
They/SheSomehow, as much as Pax loved quidditch, the scent of strong broom wax mixed with the dirt that crusted under their fingernails was a little too much for them to handle. It couldn't wait until they got back to their dorm, it was something that had to be dealt with now. Broom in hand, they pushed the door open, coming sharply into contact with another figure.
"Oh my god, sorry," they quickly apologised. "Are you ok?"
However, as they surveyed the scene, and the packet of hair dye clutched in the young boy's hand, they couldn't feel too bad, especially considering the kid didn't seem too hurt. They chuckled, approaching the neighbouring sink to wash their hands. "Dyeing your hair, huh? What sort of colour are you thinking of?"
Since their first year, Pax had always loved colouring their hair. It had started as a fun pastime, but had quickly become synonymous with them as a person. If people didn't know them for their quidditch ability, they'd likely recognise them from their brightly coloured hair. Not many others at Hogwarts, at least that they could recall off the top of their head, sported the same bright colours that made them stick out easily in a crowd.
"If you need a hand, feel free to give me a shout. I hate to brag, but I like to say I'm somewhat of an expert at this sort of thing."Reducio

Interacting with @Pax Zhang Date - 01/12/24 WC 322/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts Weirdly enough the instructions didn't change the more they read them, so it meant that Mylo was just reading the same things over and over and it wasn't really sinking in much more than the first time they read it. As they went for another round of skimming the instructions Mylo suddenly felt the door swing open against them.
Oof, that's going to bruise he thought, feeling the telltale pain of an upcoming bruise on the side of their arm. Luckily they knew they had some bruise healing paste back in their dorm, so they could get that out once they were back and all would be well. "Yeah, I'm good. I've got some bruise healing paste in my room so it shouldn't be a problem." He said, turning towards the culprit of said bruise.
They saw the scanning look of the new arrival, clearly surveying the battlefield of dyeing products that littered the sink. Looking at them Mylo spotted the brightly coloured hair that they were sporting. Obviously someone who had experience with dyeing their hair or using magic to change it. Maybe they can help? Mylo though, just barely registering the question aimed at them.
"Oh, I'm thinking brown, not really a fan of bright colours." He said, turning the box towards the other student so they could see the picture of brown hair on the front of it. And he was relieved to hear the offer of help coming from her, as Mylo wasn't too sure on how they would have asked for it if it hadn't been offered.
"Uhm, well if you're offering I honestly have no idea what I'm doing. Do you have any tips or anything? I've read the instructions over and over again and it's still not very clear." He said, hoping that the offer of help wasn't one that was giving out of a sense of politeness as these things sometimes were.

Dyeing to meet you
They/SheHuh, brown. Boring. But Pax wasn't about to say that aloud. Turning to the child, who's name they still didn't know, they took the box from his hands and turned it over to peruse the instructions. After all, a little refresher wouldn't hurt.
"Right, have you got some hair bobbles? We might need you to section out your hair - or at least, that's what the instructions say. Though, I think they imagine that the person using this has long hair, and, well..." they glanced at the kid up and down, "You don't.
So you might be fine without. But basically, you need to mix the dye, and then grab chunks of your hair and apply it, starting from the roots. There should be a brush in the box, but you can just use your hands if you want. You wanna do it in chunks otherwise you could end up with uneven coverage. Then you let it sit for however long, and there you have it. Say bye bye to blonde whatever-your-name-is, and hello to a life as a brunette."
They had done this enough times to know the process, but since it had become less and less frequent, they didn't want to risk messing up and ruining this poor kid's hair. After all, they weren't sure the nurse would be able to fix a botched job of muggle hair dye.
"You might want to grab some gloves or something," they tossed the box back. "I'm Pax, by the way."Reducio

Interacting with @Pax Zhang Date - 01/12/24 WC 329/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts As Mylo had accepted the offer of help it seemed it indeed hadn't just been a polite offer but a genuine one, as the box of hair dye was taken out of their hands by the new 'professional' and skimmed for instructions.
The Quidditch player seemed to know what they were doing as they started talking about hair bobbles, which Mylo didn't have on them and was glad to hear that they might not be necessary after all, and applying the dye. It seemed like it wasn't too difficult, but time would tell if he'd actually understood what was being said.
As she talked a bit more and mentioned not knowing their name Mylo realised they hadn't introduced themselves yet, and by extension that they didn't know the other students name either. Although that was soon rectified as they mentioned their name and that gloves might be a good thing.
Catching the box that was tossed back at them Mylo was happy to do so in one go and not embarrass themselves in front of the older year who seemed to be confident in what she was saying.
Looking back at her Mylo smiled, glad that Pax had been here to help.
"That makes sense thanks, and yes I brought gloves with me although I didn't bring hair bobbles but I don't think that should be an issue?" He stated, grabbing a pair of gloves out of their pocket that they had stashed there. "And I'm Mylo. So I think the first step you said was mixing the colour. That should be okay to do." Mylo said while grabbing the box to open it and take out the necessary bits to start mixing the colour.
After having gotten everything set up they read the instructions carefully again, and started mixing the dye, hoping that they were doing everything right and thus concentrating very hard on doing it right. The dye starting to look like the instructions said it should.

They/She"Well, gloves are a good start, isn't it?" Pax grinned, leaning on the sink. They were honestly amused by this, and letting this kid figure out how to do this seemed like a much better use of their time than going to the dorms and finding wherever they had thrown their potions homework that they were actively trying to avoid. Besides, they couldn't let him mess up everything all by himself, that would just be sad. Irresponsible if anything.
The smell of the fumes hit like a weird wave of nostalgia, and it almost made them want to change the colour of their hair yet again. Alas, for the sake of their hair health, they really couldn't afford to at this point. They'd heard the stories of people who changed it so often that it had left their hair fried or just plain horrible, and they couldn't afford to become one of those people. And, to be fair, they'd just dyed it over the summer the shade of electric blue they were currently sporting.
"So what prompted this change?" They inquired, fiddling with the end of their broom, picking out some of the dirt and leaves that had gotten caught in it. "Also, that looks about good, I think that's well mixed. Time to dump it on your head."Reducio

Interacting with @Pax Zhang Date - 01/12/24 WC 229/200 Color Legend - Mylo | Thoughts Continuing to stir the mixture of dye, now smelling a lot like chemicals which wasn't very surprising seeing as that's what the entire thing was, Mylo couldn't help but wonder if this might go wrong. But looking at Pax besides them the fears were quite easily squashed.
They didn't seem like the type of person to try and mess up something like this for fun, and also had experience with dying their hair so the chances of things going wrong were small.
As the mixture was starting to look pretty much done Pax asked Mylo a question they honestly weren't quite sure of themselves.
"Nearly new year new me? I honestly am not quite sure, but I've been trying new things and this is one of them."
The mixture was looking done and their suspicions were confirmed by Pax, stating that now was the time to just dump some of it on their head. Looking at the mixture Mylo took a deep breath and grabbed the brush that had come with the package, hoping that they didn't somehow miss their own head and dump it onto their face or worse, onto Pax.
Scooping some of the chemicals up with the brush they deposited it onto a section of their hair, having read the instructions they had already grabbed some hair with their other hand, and started brushing it in.

They/She"Never hurts to try something new," they nodded approvingly. "A new year's a great excuse for that. And if you absolutely hate it, you can just let it grow out and pretend this phase of your life never happened. That's what my parents did at least. My dad hates to be reminded of the photos that exist of him with his bleach-blonde hair."
Knowing that if Mylo was attempting to do this himself, he'd probably want to concentrate on making sure he didn't royally screw this up, especially since this was his first time dyeing his hair, so Pax kept quiet until he seemed that he'd just about covered every area on his head with dye, occasionally pointing out if he'd missed a spot.
"There you go, that wasn't so bad now, was it?" they congratulated the kid, with a smile. "Now you just gotta let it sit for however long the box says, and you'll be done."
Glancing at the door, they quickly added on. "I'd probably wait around here, avoid getting dye on any of the old stones though. Think any of the professors would be pretty livid to see the castle stained with, well frankly put, the colour of shit. It shouldn't be too long since you were blonde before though."Reducio

XXXXX𝓣he paint wasn't as difficult to apply as Mylo had first thought it would be. Although it likely also had something to do with the fact that Pax was there, letting him know if they had missed a spot.
As they finished the last bit they double checked everything, making sure they hadn't missed any spots and with conformation from Pax Mylo put the brush down into the bowl of paint. Picking the box back up again they checked to see how long they had to let it sit, noting that it wasn't too long, already having decided to wait in the lavatory before Pax mentioned it. Although their perception on the colour Mylo had chosen didn't make him feel too great about it, hopefully it changed when it came round to washing it out.
"Well, thanks for helping. I'm not sure I wouldn't have missed any spots if you hadn't pointed them out to me. I think I'll just wait around here, I bought a book with me anyway so I've got plenty of things to keep myself occupied." Pointing at their bag that also contained some of their schoolwork, having prepared as they knew he'd have to let the paint sit.
