Today had been a bad day for Elsi. It felt as if the whole world was out to get him for some reason hell bent on making his day worse and worse with each hour that passed. There were no classes today which one would think would be nice.

Elsi had been naïve enough to think so, happy to lay in bed and catch up on some sleep after being kept up all night which had worked for a grand total of 8 minutes before his dormmates got the grand idea to play some games...which wasn't bad at all! Until more people joined, making the entire thing much louder and lively than before. He'd almost been able to ignore it, but after the fourth yell of outrage and cards being thrown across the room...he'd given up and gotten dressed to go find someplace else to relax.

The problem with that however was everywhere he went...was taken.

The grounds of course had people playing around, throwing snow, making snowmen and while he didn't mind the cold at all he didn't want to get sick by falling asleep outside while it was snowing. The common room was out of the question with how packed it was, which also left places like the great hall out of the question. Classrooms weren't really ideal, and the few he'd thought about actually had some people working or hanging out. The rest of his nooks and crannies were out for the count too sadly, free day meant all the clubs and such were actually using all those areas and while a few were definitely safe from being found the people around were so...loud. He'd practically fled after being forced to hear what felt like the twentieth round off tune humming.

Feeling thoroughly defeated he'd tried the library, peeking his head in as he pushed the double doors open warily and feeling like it'd be full. Yet finally, finally, whatever bad luck was plaguing him seemed to have pity on him because somehow it was actually pretty abandoned. Not a student in sight. He'd practically thrown himself at the most secluded table he could find tucked away further into the room and cluttered with stacks of books left behind by wat must have been a huge group of students. It was perfect and he'd nearly cried tears of joy at how the books practically hid him and blocked out the light.

All he could be bothered to do was shove his bag atop the table as a makeshift pillow before passing out in a much needed nap.

There were no classes today, and although she was grateful, Charlotte had no one to waste the day away with. She had finally gotten out of bed and trampled down to the packed common room. Although friendly, she wasn't in the mood to be surrounded by such ruckus. She left the room to explore the castle a bit more.

After an hour, Charlotte was tired of wandering the halls. She had peeked into countless classrooms, and rattled dozens of doorknobs, much to the annoyance of surrounding portraits. The chilly winter weather could nearly be felt as she peered out a nearby window over the courtyard in passing. She hadn't made many friends yet and thought it odd to just go join in and throw a snowball at an older unknown student. Letting out a sigh and a shiver, she turned on her heel rather playfully and decided to head to the library. She ignored the "At last!" let out by the nearby painting.

Arriving outside the double doors, Charlotte let out a huff, pushing them open none too gently. Lucky for her, there wasn't a student in sight, and not even Madam Rosemerta was anywhere to be seen. She meandered along the rows and rows of books, breathing in the sweet nearly rotting scent of the binding glue. Finally-quiet. Not a page rustle could be heard, just the soft footsteps of Charlotte's heels shuffling along the floor, her head tilted at an angle as she read the spines. "Pride's Tome", she muttered. It looked awfully spooky, so Lottie grabbed it gently and added it to her armful of books to skim through for the afternoon. She made her way towards the back of the great room-her spot that she always read at, expertly hidden by stacks of abandoned books. As she approached and could see around her stack, she saw a boy sleeping atop his bag in her spot! Seething, she marched to the edge of the table and dropped her books rather loudly next to his ear.
"Excuse me, I believe this is MY spot."

Elsian hissed at the rude awakening, flinching away from the sound and glaring at the stack of books way to close to his face for his liking from behind his bangs. Blinking slightly in a mix of groggy tiredness and confusion he shifted up a bit to plop his chin in a hand, elbow resting on top of his bag. His gaze shifted from the stack of books to his right, narrowed eyes landing on the mystery person with a small huff of annoyance. He took in the other for a moment, dark eyes that looked pretty annoyed...no, angry? He couldn't quite tell but he felt slightly taken aback by it, annoyance slipping under for a moment out of confusion. It wasn't like he snored or drooled when sleeping like some kids after all. Had it gotten crowded while he napped?

Taking a quick peek at their surroundings he eyed the rather empty space, lips pulling down at the corners a small bit. He couldn't see another person in sight and the only noise he could hear was the small wooden groans of the book cases that was little more than background static. Eyes training on the brunette he could only figure that she was being difficult about her favorite spot...

Which okay, he could understand usually but this place was empty, like really empty...and he couldn't say he was very happy with how rude she was waking him up like that.

"Huh, I didn't know a public library seat could belong to someone..." he said voice flat, expression matching the tone with a blank look.

Still, moving and leaning back in his seat he pointedly picked up his bag to look at the table and the books around him. Not finding a name he forced himself to get up, hands grabbing the chair and tilting it back slightly and looking at the wood before dubbing the thing pointless and looking the other girl in the eyes.

"Odd," he drawled, "I can't seem to find your name anywhere...but oh well." he wasn't about to fight over a chair when it was just the two of them there, too much effort. Didn't mean he wasn't going to be pleasant about it like some dog.

"If you want the chair that badly you can have it, here." hands gripping the chair he moved it towards her, grabbing a different chair and putting it in the exact same place before plopping down himself and fitting the bag under like a pillow. chin in hand he gestured to the previous 'spot' he'd been in with a small wriggle of his fingers, "all yours."

After all, she hadn't exactly been very specific on what part was her spot.

Charlotte stared at the boy blankly as his eyes peered through his thick bangs at her stack of books. He plopped his chin in his hand, moving his elbow to his bag. Charlotte appraised him, their eyes meeting for a moment. She tried to exude certainty, some confidence through her annoyance. The boy’s eyes flickered back with what looked like a matching degree of irritation.
Charlotte watched as he looked around, perhaps looking for someone. She noticed the corners of his mouth pull down softly and she felt a pull of empathy. His eyes returned to hers, and with a flat expression stated, "Huh, I didn't know a public library seat could belong to someone...". Charlotte began to respond but was taken aback as he very obviously looked around, noting the grain pattern of the wood, almost. Finally, he stood up, pulling back the chair. Charlotte admired his sort of swagger as he began to speak again. "Odd," he drawled, "I can't seem to find your name anywhere...but oh well. If you want the chair that badly you can have it, here." The boy’s hands gripped the chair as he moved it towards her. Lottie stood there, paralyzed by his matched brashness. She was usually the commandeering one throughout life, and this boy was now grabbing himself a different chair and replacing the spot that was previously occupied by Lottie’s! He made himself comfortable again and gestured at the open seat.
“All yours."
Charlotte took a moment to collect herself, then pulled her shoulders back and sat down in the chair hesitantly. She kept her eyes on the boy’s as she grabbed one of her many books and opened it.
Turning her head, she sat for a few moments staring at the page without reading anything. Curiosity was biting at her. She simply couldn’t hold it in anymore. Her head snapped to him.
“What’s your name? And why did you let me even sit here?”
In fact, Charlotte was still a tad irritated at his curtness but believed she deserved it, as she had been rather rude. But now she wanted to know who this boy sharing her “secret” study space was and why he wasn’t out with his friends during the snow day. If that meant interrogating him, so be it.

Fingers tapping quietly he returned the look with half lidded eyes, half itching to lie down and relax but also slightly curious to see if the other would sit down or just turn and leave like her stiffness might suggest. Seemingly set on proving his theory wrong, he turned to look away first when she began to sit, shoulders back in what must have been either confidence or simple stubborn headedness or maybe a mix of the two. He couldn't say. Though in his eyes she seemed a bit to stiff, to robotic and he wondered if maybe he'd been a bit to snide. Even so, he didn't regret his words a single bit. If anything he was happy to be done with the situation the hand cradling his chin dropped moving to curl around his other arm atop the bag for him to hide his face in his sleeves against the light.

He heard more than saw the other sifting through the pile between them, the sound of a book being opened and the crinkling of pages was a welcome static to drift off to. He found himself sighing silently in approval willing his mind to drift off in the silence that was not tense as he'd feared it might be when the other stared at him before sitting. Or, at the very least, he felt calm at the silence.

"Wha…." he mumbled, mind still mottled with the edge of sleep he'd been perching on.

It took a moment for him to catch up and he grudgingly turned to rest his cheek against his arm to look at his mystery companion. He blinked once, twice before finally opening his mouth to deem the question with an answer, voice lilted in a mix of sleepy confusion and a small bit of annoyance at said sleep being slid out from under him once again so suddenly.

"Elsian," he said, though his lips pulled down at the second question.

Why indeed. Because it was a public space? Because stopping her just seems childish and dramatic? A number of reasons really and she could have her pick of the lot.

"Because I think it's childish and stupid when others do things like that? Besides," he sighed, eyes closing "it'd be too troublesome to do otherwise."

"And who are you?" he asked, hand covering a yawn as he began to accept that would not be forthcoming now. No amount of wishful thinking would lull him into a mindless sleep for a while.

Charlotte was staring at him expectantly as he sleepily blinked. She had clearly woken him from his fall into slumber, but she figured he could sleep later-talking was far more interesting anyhow.
Elsian,” he stated with a small frown. Her eyes scanned his face yet again, as if determining whether his given name was a good fit for him. Seeming satisfied, she met his eyes again, waiting for a second answer.

Because I think it’s childish and stupid when others do things like that? Besides,” he muttered, closing his eyes again, “it’d be too troublesome to do otherwise.

Troublesome?” thought Charlotte. A surge of annoyance began to swell, but was staunched by her rare cool logic-she was rather troublesome...and quite frankly, childish as well.

And who are you?” Elsian managed to say before a yawn overtook him. He smoothly covered his mouth with a hand, and Charlotte could tell he had come to terms with the fact that she was going to be talkative.

Someone I should hope you won’t forget. Charlotte. Some people call me Lottie,” she said with a smirk, shrugging rather dramatically. Cool winter light had started to fan in through the nearby window, illuminating the pages in front of her. She snapped the book shut so that the sun no longer reflected off the parchment into her eyes. “Not to be rude,” she began as if she hadn’t been rude already, “but why aren’t you out with all your friends? You’re a Gryffindor-not exactly a lone wolf type, I thought.” Her eyes scanned Elsian’s attire, posture, and rested once again on his face, her eyebrows raised innocently enough.

He wasn't quite sure how he felt about the way the other was eyeing him. Typically he could care less about what others thought of him at first glance, especially rude ones, but the something about the look in her eyes...what, did she think he was lying about his name or something else just as ridiculous?

He looked away, staring at nothing in particular as the other talked not really feeling the need to crane his neck to look at her as she gabbed on though the fact that he wasn't looking made the sudden sound of the other snapping her book shut so close to his head all the more deafening in the pure silence that surrounded them. The urge to shush her with came upon him with vengeance, the only thing stopping him the absolute stupidity of doing so seemed with the place literally being empty besides the two of them. It didn't stop him from glaring at her bitterly though as he shifted a bit more aways from her and her books.

He almost laughed at her next words because really? Funny and....oh, she was serious. Someone he shouldn't forget? Seriously? Fine if that's how she wanted to play.

"Got it, Charlie with an e, won't forget it," he mumbled, voice plain and matter a fact, "...probably."

The moment she uttered those words he was braced. 'Not to be rude.' That's exactly what his tutors said to his parents and nan whenever they didn't get the outcome they want. The very words people always said at parties, like the horrible harpies pretending to be human when they wanted to gossip or make fun. Not to be rude, hah. Funny. But even braced he couldn't stop the slightly pained sigh from passing his lips and if he'd known he was gonna be stereotyped just because he wore his comfy robe he would've just worn one of his sweaters instead because joy...

She was one of those types.

"Aaannd you got me," he said levelly, "I'm actually a Slytherin who stole the robe from a Gryffindor."

"And of course I'm not a lone wolf Charleena," he deadpanned, internally bristling when she all but sized him up for lack of better terms, "I'm a Slytherin after all. The term is lone snake, thank you very much."

Charlie? The absolute audacity of this kid!

“...probably.” she heard him mutter softly after his equally snide remark. She tilted her head toward the ceiling just so she could peer down her nose at his sea-green eyes, despite being much shorter than him, even sitting down.

“Not to be rude…”
She watched him digest her next question, eyes distant. She figured it really had come out as rather rude, but she was simply more interested in his answer than saving face.

“Aaannd you got me. I’m actually a Slytherin who stole the robe from a Gryffindor.” She eyed him up and down, not sure what to believe. He sure did act like a house combination anomaly.

“And of course I’m not a lone wolf, Charleena,” she winced at the name, despite her brain’s best attempt to play it cool! and looked him up and down yet again. What was he playing at?
“I'm a Slytherin after all. The term is lone snake, thank you very much." Charlotte stared at him, speechless.

He simply would make the best partner in crime.

“You don’t like me very much, do you,” she stated as fact, crossing her arms smugly. She was bound to win him over eventually, lone snake or not.
Most people truly didn’t like Charlotte, on account of her brazen questions and loud voice, but she gleaned from Elsian’s quick wit that they had quite a bit more in common than first thought. If she could just manage to rein herself in a bit...

"Now what gives you that idea?" he asked plainly, giving her an equally blank look, "I'm just answering your questions Charles."

Elsian couldn't say he hated the girl, not yet anyways, because hate was a strong word. Dislike? Also a bit strong for his taste. Disliking someone you barely knew was petty in his opinion after all and frankly stupid. Annoyed with? Yes, very much so! She was very annoying so far, especially with how bloody lordly she was acting. So right now? Yeah, okay with that attitude he wasn't liking her all that much, it was annoying. When she stopped reminding him of a cocky old crony then maybe he wouldn't feel the need to mess up miss Charlies name.

For now though.

He sat up from his hunched position choosing to lean against the back of his chair like a 'normal person with a posture' as Mrs. Elti would so kindly say to him back home. Slowly he leaned back more until he was balancing half hazardly on the back legs now that no one was around to yell at his for sitting like a barbarian. Of course she kinda had a point with the dangerous part since the only thing really keeping his balance was his hands resting against the tables edge..

Ah Mrs. Elti, if only she could see him now. She'd threaten to box his ears.

"The real million dollar question is why you're all alone," he said eyeballing the table as he pushed a little further back.

The chair wobbling dangerously for a moment before he quietly dropped the chair back to all fours. Safe his finger tapped on the table as a thought popped into his head, "birds of a feather I thought was the saying. So not to be rude but why aren't you flying off to your flock?" he asked peering at the other before simply shrugging and looking away as if waving away any reply she could give.

"Unless... you don't have one?" he asked innocently enough.

"I'm just answering your questions Charles."

CHARLES?! Her face flushed red, the sanguine color reaching the tips of her ears. She watched as Elsian drew himself up in his seat, as if a puppet master had pulled a string straight up through the top of his head. But then he tipped back his chair ever so slightly, so that he was suspended solely by his hands resting on the flat surface of the table. A slippery slope, indeed.

"The real million dollar question is why you're all alone," Elsian said, keeping his eyes locked on the backs of his palms. As he returned back to stable ground, tapping his fingers against the hard surface, Charlotte fumed as he remarked, "birds of a feather, I thought was the saying. So not to be rude but why aren't you flying off to your flock?" he peered through his lashes smugly, shrugging without a care, dismissing anything Charlotte might say.
"Unless... you don't have one?"

A flash of hurt crossed Charlotte’s face as she met Elsian’s innocent face. She opened her mouth, only to close it again, trying to form words. To be honest...or keep appearances-that was the question. Lottie dug her nails into her palms, resigned, furious, and deeply hurt. Not even by Elsian’s words-they seemed to be a sort of teasing, by tossing her words back at her. She was just hurt that she really had never had a flock (other than her family), and by the looks of it, would never have one at Hogwarts, either.

All of-all of my friends are out by the lake,” she said, flicking her hair over her shoulder, breaking Elsian’s eye contact, and obviously lying. “I just needed to get away from the cold is all,” she said, resigned to her fate. She grabbed her book she had been flipping through, clutching it to her chest like a lifeline as her gaze returned to Elsian’s piercing green one.
