Annoying. That was the best way to describe the kids who were recklessly playing around with a battered red kickball in middle of the busy bustling courtyard. It was a school day, that was painfully obvious with the flying loose papers and clattering of feet against the pavement as students and professors alike ran to and from classes. But in that small transition periods between classes, a group decided to collectively play smack dab in the center of one of the essential and convenient pathways for students to get quickly to their next class, making it all the less convenient. Unfortunately, to much people's dismay Fire was one of these kids causing further turmoil and stress for his peers around him.

It didn't make it any better that the boy in question was supposed to be a prefect, the good example for other first years, the person meant to stop crazy uncontrolled situations. When people think of such a role, they think of the top of the class students, who had a sense of maturity, grace, and intelligence for their age, one's with a good and clean image. It wasn't that Fire wasn't any of these, especially considering he knew how to be responsible, having to look after triplets and little sister wasn't always easy obviously. But really Fire, somewhat chose not to go for the route, "have fun, figure it out later" was his motto really, and of course he knew the boundaries. But what fun was it not to poke them a little? It was like stretching gum, how far could it go before it finally snapped?

Bad throw. A passing student had brushed past, shoving against his shoulder accidentally to get by. Causing the boy's trajectory to not go what he most preferred as the other barely caught it, and immediately called him out on it. "BRICK!" The other said with a smug smile, the boy's blood boiled slightly.

"It isn't my fault, some kid shoved me!" Fire reasoned, trying to regain some the honor on his name, as his ears reddened with embarrassment. I mean, it was just the cold of course...

"Yeah excuses, excuses," The other faked a yawn as if completely bored as they threw the ball to the Hufflepuff. "You just suck, admit it."

Trash talking wasn't something new especially when it came to sports and when playing a small game like this, but the rage-baiting tactic seemed to always work way to well for the boy. He let his anger get the better of him.

"I'll show you who sucks!" Fire yelled back chucking the ball as hard as he could possibly toward the other, the red hurtled across the courtyard in rapid speed, the trajectory aiming straight for the kid's face. But what seemed what would be a victory quickly change, the kid dodged, even worse an unsuspecting victim behind them got a direct hit. They had to be in trouble now, some of the other students who had been playing winced at the impact as it bounced of the skull adorned with blue highlights. Fight or flight, most of the kids immediately dispersed upon the incident not wanting to get involved, or possibly having to face unwanted repercussions.

Fire immediately jogged to the victims aid, first picking up the ball before fully going to check-up on her. "Hey you okay? That seemed like a gnarly hit..."

Avis didn't give a hoot about the idiots who chose to play ball in the courtyard in the middle of the day. She didn't understand it in the slightest, considering it was freezing outside, but so long as they didn't hit her, they could be fools all they wished.

She, on the other hand, preferred to employ a quick wintery shuffle-walk-run in order to get back into the warmish castle as quickly as humanly possible. Whenever possible, she even tried to avoid patrols which involved entering the outdoors. She was a decent prefect sure, but she sure wasn't going to give up warmth in exchange for her "responsibilities."

"I'll show you who sucks!" Avis tilted her head towards the drama - she certainly wanted to know who sucked. Unfortunately, the joke was on her as it seemed that the answer was her. She shrieked as the half-frozen ball smashed directly into her head with a loud bonk, and the force sent her knees buckling below her, and sending her downward.

She managed to get one arm halfway under her as she slipped backwards, but not enough, and her head slammed into the sharp cobblestone.

Ow.

She sucked in a few sharp breaths before lightly shaking her head to clear the last of her adrenaline and fog, and pushed herself up to a sitting position. Despite her pain, Avis almost laughed when she saw the prefect badge of the culprit who had come running up to her. Hogwarts was trash when it came to picking new prefects.

She lifted her hand to probe her head for a bump, coming back instead with a streak of warm blood on her fingers. By no means an emergency, she was in no danger of bleeding out or any of that nonsense, but unfortunate enough to probably require a trip to the hospital wing. Frick. She frowned, thinking.

Avis hated the hospital wing. It was probably better since that one nurse had left, but nonetheless small traumas can have an effect on the girl, and she still preferred to stay away. For holden's sakes, she hadn't even gone there when she had broken her leg.

Finally, she turned her focus the the kid now in front of her, holding her hand out for him to help her up. "I'll be alright. So I suck, huh?"

Fire had watched in slight disbelief and a little bit of astonishment as the ball hurtled to an unsuspecting victim, wincing slightly at the sound of direct impact the sport equipment made against the skull of the girl. He wasn't sure if that made him suck, since he technically missed the desired target of such an attack, or if that just meant he was very strong, meaning extremely skilled for almost K.O-ing a student with a throw alone. The boy quickly jogged over to see how much critical damage he had caused, or he means to see whether or not the girl was okay.

The striking hit was enough to send her flying backwards onto the ground, a frown, rightfully so, adorned on her round face. The student looked up giving him a better look of his victim, her dark brown almond eyes focusing on him. Dammit, maybe he should've fled when he had the chance, maybe he could've gotten away with it, he inwardly groaned to himself because he knew his mother had taught him better, and did he really want a dead girl on his conscious? Well maybe that was a bit dramatic.

"I'll be alright. So I suck, huh?" She responded, to Fire ears it sounded almost curt, but that was mostly due somewhat to the annoying reminder of guilt that hung low and tight in his chest. He didn't hesitate to grab her outstretched hand, helping to pull her to her feet.

"Well..." Fire said as he thought of his response, weighing the options almost literally with his hands, like some weird scale whilst speaking in a more blunt, bordering rude voice. "You didn't really move, you ARE kind slow. You could've dodged or something, so that's more if the boot fits, and the boot does seem to be the perfect size."

The boy felt slightly bad for his words, but really he couldn't help but be honest. If she had just moved they wouldn't be in this mess in the first place, or at least that's what made sense in the boy's own mind. But even despite her fault, this was a serious situation, she had been hit by a stray ball, which was no laughing matter.

"You sure your-" Fire stopped talking as soon as he caught sight of the the red covering the palm and fingertips of her hand, it didn't take a genius to figure out what that had been a direct result of. He sighed to himself as if this was a regular mundane everyday thing. "C'mon, lets get you to the hospital wing. How much are you bleeding? Do you feel nauseous at all?" He spoke quickly, barely breathing in-between words as he grabbed ripped a little bit of cloth off from the bottom of his tee, balled it up and handed it quickly to the girl with a stern face. "Put this on your head to soak the blood."

"You didn't really move, you ARE kind slow. You could've dodged or something, so that's more if the boot fits, and the boot does seem to be the perfect size."

Avis almost recoiled from his offered hand. It had pretty clearly been a joke, and here he was deciding that he needed to insult her. She tilted her head, glaring at him. "You could have not kicked the ball at my head. Then it wouldn't matter if I'm good at dodging." She ignored the obvious - she hadn't and couldn't have dodged. He was totally right, she was pretty slow. But still, you did go insulting a girl like that.

"C'mon, lets get you to the hospital wing. How much are you bleeding? Do you feel nauseous at all?" Avis shook her head, trying to comprehend the quick words. Listening to rap was not one of her strong suits, it usually devolved into gibberish, and speaking quickly to a girl with a potential concussion usually didn't go very well. She pulled herself to he feet, wincing slightly. "Bleeding? Not that bad, I don't thing." Nauseous? No. Probably not.

What did nausea even feel like? Wobbly, right? Avis shrugged. She was unsure if she was wobbly from whacking her head, shock, or maybe this was just her normal state. Balance was not her strong suit.

She snatched the cloth from his hands, rolling her eyes as she pressed it to her head. What. A. Hero. Nothing like a semi-sweaty ripped shirt cloth to cure a cut. Spinning on the balls of her feet, Avis ignored the stares of the students scattered about the lawn, fascinated by the slightly-out-of-the-ordinary occurrence within the grounds, she strode toward the castle as quickly as her below-average legs could take her.
