Bootleg Quidditch

Credits: Elena Clark
Charlotte had never tried quidditch before. Well, to be fair she'd never try any sport. She was more of a person who stood by the sidelines and cheered .It seemed too. . . hard to learn a sport. There was so much practicing to do to catch up, and it seemed like a lot of hard work and dedication. There were so many rules she had to learn, and who really had the time to do it all? She didn't know why she signed up, but Charlotte was determined to have fun and learn quidditch.
As she stepped in, she recongized a few familiar faces. But that was it. It'd be nice to meet more people. Her heart started hammering, a feeling she wasn't used to feeling since she'd never participate in sports. Well, more serious sports. Not including the muggle sports she played with her cousins. And what if she messed up? Everyone would see and she really didn't want to let down her team.
She took a deep breath. It was gonna be okay. If she messed up, well, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Right? Plus, being a chaser sounded fun. Charlotte shivered. It was a bit chilly, and unfortunately she got cold easily. Hopefully this weather won't affect my quidditch.
She took her broom, mounted it, and a feeling of excitement washed over. She couldn't help but smile. Then she heard the whistle blow, and her anxiousness came back.

Second-string actions.Premise: Unofficial Quidditch game!
Date: 10 December 2025 (let me know if anyone needs this changed)
Time: 10:00
Weather: Damp, cold, drizzly.

The game kicked off with a perhaps unhealthy amount of booing, as it appeared that those on both sides had a perspicuous sense of disdain for the other team's Seeker. As Rosaline booed Elena and Zephyr booed Althea, Verity and Aodhan would whisper potential avenues of strategy to one another. Thinking similarly, Sophie and Violence would do the same.

Chasers.
Things did become interesting with Amelia and Cecilia quarrelling for the Quaffle. Although Cecilia appeared to be attempting a less-employed technique, it might have been that following trusted rules would lead to success. All of Cecilia's score attempts were blocked, but when Amelia managed to squeeze past Tatiana, her arms moved quickly, and she ended up landing not one, but two scores!
'Interesting. Not the best of luck for Merrick, but Lerelle is quicker than Contraire expected. Twenty points to the... er... Pegasi. Oh, has Contraire hurt herself?'

Beaters.
For many who purveyed the skies for Quidditch players, they wanted to observe the Quaffle game or attempt to spot the Snitch before the Seekers. For the more bloodthirsty of individuals, though, the belligerent beaters brought them great entertainment. This game would not prove bloodless; Livia lifted her eyebrows as she eyed Sabrina and Graci nearing one another. 'Ah, it appears that Lyons and Laren are going to combine the best of their traits. Valeden could be in the most troubling of tribulations! Oh, but wait – Noxley swerves in and takes the hit! Ouch. I suppose not all of us are sturdy.'
Livia was hardly a sturdy individual herself, but this was not her game. She watched, intrigued, as Leo plummeted to the ground. What a shame it was that she hadn't yet learnt the slowing spell. It did not appear as if the Sauce-Making Spell would assist her in this predicament.
Of course, there was more. Livia watched with minutely-widening eyes as Avery sent a bludger careening towards Livia's friend, Lucille. 'Oh, and Rosenhart takes a hit! She's still on her broom, obviously a bit dazed – I wonder what's gotten into her.'

Blatchers.
If Livia had learnt anything about the nature of Quidditch, it was that the jockish individuals lacked regard for the rules of the game. This was very dissimilar to the nature of duellists, who very rarely, if at all, cheated, despite it often being in their best interest. Livia easily noticed Percival Rocier beelining for Tatiana, but she said nothing in warning to the Keeper, hoping to see an enjoyable battle. She was not rewarded. Percival was easily able to push Tatiana off of her broom.
'Rocier, penalty lap.' She stared at Tatiana's falling, still-conscious figure, wondering what it would be like for someone to be awake when they hit the ground. Deciding that her curiosity should not be sated today, Livia produced her wand from its place in her sleeve and pointed it at the girl's falling figure. 'Stupefy.' (Tatiana, feel free to decide whether or not this works.)

Bootleg Quidditch

One, two, three. That was how many breaths she could count before the whistle blew. The pitch was vast and wide from up in the air, just as it had been the last unofficial Quidditch match. The difference was that this time she knew a few people—on both sides. Althea joined her to in suggesting this was fun, though Avery's Quidditch ferver balanced that scale. Percy, thankfully, seemed better. And he was even equipped with a new broom! Her eyes had flit down to the Comet. "I bet it'll be great for you," she had commented.
But those moments on the ground seemed far away now. And in this moment, she knew she only had to focus on the movements straight ahead of her. Althea, she knew from racing, would be fine on her own. And she believed Leo and Avery could handle the bludgers. Still, she knew she probably shouldn't start out by hanging on to her broom upside down again.
Instead, she watched the quaffle change hands. Amelia had handedly won the quaffle twice, scoring twice for them. She clapped for her, knowing, it might not be heard by Amelia all the way down the field. But for the opposing side, the ginger girl, Cecilia, won the quafflie thrice and swiftly approached her area of the field. Eyes narrowed, Maisie tried to keep an eye on her movements and the way she cupped the quaffle. Each time the other girl moved and lobbed the quaffle, Maisie felt more confident as she flew in and knocked the ball out of the hoops. A breath of relief and something different (than what she felt on the piste)—was that a dash of pride?—rippled over her as she gripped the broom. One, two, three, indeed.

Avery was in the zone. She had to focus hard and ignore what was around her. Though she knew she had to pay careful attention to the bludgers. Bludgers were unpredictable and the downfall of most people in Quidditch. Unless, of course, you pulled a dirty foul. Those were nasty moves that she didn't enjoy doing, but she did them anyway. Her team depended on her which meant that she sometimes had to break the rules.
Avery took a deep steadying breath as she took to the sky. Her beater bat gripped tightly in her hand so she wouldn't lose it. She wasn't afraid of losing it. No. She was anything but afraid of the match that day. The people she was up against weren't threatening. They were just other people wanting to play her game and destroy her team. She wouldn't let that happen. She would finally for once lead her team to victory.
"Great work, Pesasi! Keep it up!" Avery called out to her team. She winced though as Leo came in the way of a bludger. He hit the ground hard, and it took all Avery could not to fly down and check on him. He was a good player. A great player, but alas the bludger always called the shots.
Her frustration at watching her teammate fall was pushed into her bludger. She slammed her bat hard into the ball and watched as it flew and crashed into Lucille. A girl Avery knew from the ball, but now was not the time for being friendly to her friends. Now was a time for survival and attempting to not let her team fall apart around her again. That was what mattered.

morning
Vera couldn't help the wide smile that came on her face as Aodhan yelled something at their team. "The less people at lunch, the better," she repeated to herself. She tilted her head as she examined her broom, then turned her head towards him. "A bit extreme, I would say, but that's how the game goes, right?"
It finally hit Vera how crazy it was to be playing such a violent game at this hour, and before lunch! It wasn't even time to have morning tea yet, either, which would've been nice as a little pick-me-up before the game.
She took in a breath. The position she was in was meant to be one of the safer ones; guard the goal posts from quaffles thrown by the opposing chasers. Keepers were the designated goalkeepers—which was likely where the term came from to begin with. But that was just what she read from her books.
Vera looked at Aodhan. "Anything I should know about Quidditch in case I end up flying? It's my first time."
She could've asked Zephyr or Lily, who were also on the bench with them, but Vera was more familiar with Aodhan from the race they played together. Not only that, it seemed he knew more about the sport than the other, what with his comment about seeing less people at lunch. If anyone had decent advice on how to play the game, Vera believed it was him.
In the corner of her eye, she watched as the field erupted in chaos. The Seekers were flying, and Leo, who had been defending the other team's Seeker, was the recipient of a flying metal ball from their team. Vera winced as she watched him fall. Then, Cecilia tried to score a few points only to be blocked by the other team's Keeper. Their own Keeper, Tatiana, looked disoriented and let a goal go through. Vera was about to say something about Tatiana to Aodhan until the girl got knocked off her broom by Percival.
Well, that was one player down each. Not only that, Vera was now in play with Tatiana knocked out.
Vera blinked a few times, then stood up and took her broom. "I think that's my cue," she said. She gave Aodhan a wave of thanks. "Thanks for the insight."

── Cecilia beamed with joy when she managed to grab the quaffle from the other chaser. How exciting! Unfortunately, her radiant smile quickly faded once she tossed it. Her shot was so pathetic that she may as well have handed the ball to the keeper – Maisie. Fortunately, the cold already nipped at her cheeks, so no one knew that her rouge was partially due to embarrassment. After a deep exhale, she fought for the quaffle once more and won. Alas, the outcome was no different this time. By her third attempt, Cecilia had lost both the quaffle and her confidence.
However, a fire lit inside her when the chaser grabbed the quaffle again and scored. Cecilia rushed forward and snatched the quaffle. Unfortunately, her attempt to even out the score was thwarted once more. She let out an exasperated groan and clasped her hand over her forehead. I possess a talent for hugging quaffles and nothing more! She thought, feeling mildly perturbed. Though she expected nothing less from Maisie, Cecilia felt too disappointed in her own performance to focus on anyone else until she recalled the wager.
Swiftly, she turned to Leo and called out to him before he had time to comment. “Not a word out of you, Nox-” she immediately fell silent, eyes widening as he dived in front of Althea. She flinched, fingers curling tightly around her broom when he took the heavy blow. Concern flickered across her eyes as he fell. Indeed, she would not be getting a word out of Leo now, but it was such a pity that they did not get to exchange any quips or blows before he plummeted. At least his noble deed would never be forgotten.
Cecilia shook her head gently and steeled herself. Failure to focus meant that she would likely be joining Leo soon. And while she appreciated the company of her friend, she would rather avoid a similar fate. That was when she saw a sudden movement in her periphery. Glancing over her shoulder, Cecilia saw one of the sweetest snakes she knew, knocking Tatiana off her broom. As their keeper plummeted, her brows rose as she processed the nasty attack. This simply would not do. She frowned as anger displaced her shock. Though her first Quidditch game was proving to be daunting, Cecilia was determined to help her team secure the win.
“Come on, Wonderbolts!” she rallied her team, hoping no one else was too shaken up by the blatching. “Let’s give it all we’ve got!”

The weather was not good, but nothing unexpected for a December morning. Besides the winter cold, a light drizzle left the air feeling damp even for those inside the castle, far from a fireplace or a magically warmed classroom. In Frederick’s case, who had decided to head out to the training grounds despite the weather, to get in a bit more Quidditch practice before the Christmas holiday arrived, the sensation was even worse.
Some would call him crazy for training on a day like this, but he was determined. And when he arrived at the pitch, what he saw were several other crazies like him, already flying through the air on their brooms in a match being coordinated by a Slytherin girl he thought he recognized from another unofficial Quidditch game. “I can’t believe no one called me for this.” Fred stepped onto the wet, partially frozen grass, muttering the complaint to himself as he looked upward, trying to recognize who was playing.
He crossed the area until he approached a few students still on the ground, huddled together in a corner in what he assumed was the group of second-strings. Taking the last few steps, he was surprised to be immediately called into the game, and even more so, to play as Keeper, just as he did for the Gryffindor team. He was still on the reserves bench, but he didn’t mind. When he finally spotted a familiar face, Rosaline’s, he didn’t even have time to say hello, because he realized she would have to jump in to replace someone who had just been knocked off their broom. What he didn’t know yet was that it was also his friend Leo.
Even without knowing anyone there, Fred greeted everyone briefly with a “hey,” and a small smile, positioning himself so he could follow the match unfolding in the air.

Oh my gosh... am I violent? Yes, yes I think I just might be.
Graci did not... make a habit of hitting projectiles at people, per se, but why did it happen to seem rather enjoyable. She did not, of course particularly enjoy the pain she inflicted, not watching an innocent first year take the brunt of impact. A saviour complex, I suppose. Of course, she would be apologizing profusely later and feel tremendously guilty, but she needed to get into the right game mindset. Or, that's what she told herself.
Despite her best efforts the game was quite hard to follow. One person down, then another, and before she knew it people we trying to score. Well, broom racing might be more chaotic, but at least I don't have to pay attention to at least five of the people behind me. Sure, her experiences were limited on the whole, but broom racing was the only thing she really had to compare this to.
Quite start to her ever-growing views of quidditch, perhaps a negative start. Then again, when she really looked at it, everything was less bright and kind. Alas, the cons of romanticism. But thinking of such trivial things would hardly win the match, and the opposing group certainly wouldn't make their time any easier.sorry it's short, I'm delerious-> word count: 218

Bootleg Quidditch

As soon as the game begun, Althea immensely regretted everything leading up to that moment. She had known in theory what constituted the role of a seeker: Stay alert, spot the snitch, catch the snitch before the other seeker. She did not start to realise in a macro view what those responsibilities meant for her, until the torrential booing from the benches erupted. Being a seeker wasn't hard, it was terrifying.
Gritting her teeth, Althea kept her eyes fixed on the pitch, punching down the anxious static threatening to cloud her mind. She glanced at the other team's seeker, who seemingly flew and watched the skies as easily as she breathed. Instinctively, amidst the intimidation, her gaze narrowed in on the other seeker. Standard movement, a glance to the sky, the split second of a still gaze– Bingo. From the distance, Althea's eyes caught a glimpse of gold.
Just then, out of the corner of her eye, the Hufflepuff saw two players zipping closer, dangerously close. The opponent beaters, Althea's mind barely registered. Oh. OH. By the time the danger clicked, disaster was imminent. Her shoulder squared and she braced for the impact, but–TWACK-! The sound was jarring without the pain, and she swivelled to look back. Instinct acted. She shot out a hand, but the fabric barely grazed her fingertips. Leo plummeted like a stone, hurtling towards the ground. Her breath constricted. No wand, she could not do anything. She didn't dare look. That free hand slammed back onto her broom.
Althea bit the inside of her cheek, forcing her mind into focus. What was she doing, letting her juniors take the hit for her while she dreaded doing what they trusted her to do? Now they are one player down because of her, and snatching that snitch was all that they needed to make that worth it. Adjusting her grip, the Hufflepuff's eyes locked onto that flash of gold, readying herself for a chase.
