Oh no…
Skylar rushed through the classroom door, almost ran out of breath. She was craving something sweet and digging in the candy jar of the Slytherin common room this morning. Before she realized she’d wasted too much time picking it, she just grabbed the candy randomly and ran to the classroom.
When she sank into her seat near the middle row, she quickly put the candy in her mouth. It wasn’t sweet, but sour. Very sour. She was chewing on the disappointing piece of candy quietly waiting for the class to begin.
Skylar breathed a long exhale and looked around the classroom. A massive table at the front looked like it had survived a century of magic experiments.
She grabbed her quill and glanced around as she caught whispers from other students until the professor appeared.
Out of thin air.
She nearly jumped out of her seat and dropped her quill.
What an entrance! She thought.
After a few introductions, the lesson began. Skylar couldn’t help but smile. Professor’s energy looked like someone who enjoyed scaring first years just for fun. His voice filled the room with sarcasm and genuine passion. Before she knew it, her hand was actually writing notes faster than usual.
Everything appeared to be very quick and very energetic. Sometimes, it was fun and sometimes also hard to catch up, then…
“Magic and physics?”
She tilted her head. What in Merlin’s name does that even mean?
Skylar was just a pureblood girl who grew up in the gardens... physics wasn’t exactly her kind of knowledge. However, when she saw the first demonstration, she couldn’t decide whether to be amazed or terrified.
When it was finally the students' turn to try, her palms were sweating. On her desk is a silver whistle. She had to turn it into a pocket watch.
She lifted her wand and gave a gentle tap.
“Tunc Silablic… Tunc Siblablic… Tunc Siblic...”
The incantation was harder than she thought. She tried to pronounce it many times.
“Tunc Sibilus.”
She finally succeeded, pronouncing it correctly, then tried to cast the spell again. A pictured of a pocket watch was clear in her mind with the soft ticking sound. She breathed and spoke clearly.
“Tunc Sibilus.”
The metal rippled and reshaped, changing into the form of a small pocket watch.
“It works,”
Skylar smiled with a long sigh. “This class isn’t easy,” she murmured to herself, “but… at least I survived for now.”

Oh no…
Professor Kāne walked around the class as the students practiced casting that day’s lesson: whistle to watch. He gave notes of encouragement to those who failed and tried to help troubleshoot what problems they were having. Some looked melted, while others exploded when opened. Still more only managed to make their whistles tick and rattle. If this were his more experienced group of students, the large and imposing man would have put all that muscle to good use scolding them for being lazy. However, since this was the first transfiguration spell that they were learning to cast, Professor Kāne was a lot more patient, helping them to restart and try again.
He made his way through the middle section which proved to be more adept than the back rows. The further he got to the front, the more studious his pupils appeared be. He stopped at one such student. “Brilliantly done, Ms. Astor! You are bound to be a transfiguration star someday! Keep up the good work!” With a flick of his wand, he reshaped her pocket watch into a whistle again. “Try it one more time. I would like to see.” He watched over her, her figure imposing but his face warm and patient. It always excited him to see such a dedicated student.

Skylar was nearly jumped out of a surprise by Professor Kāne's admiration. Even though she spent almost an hour learning his class, she still never got used to his energy.
She was actually glad that he managed to see she did well with the spell, but she didn’t want to redo it. She looked up to him as genuinely as she was, yet she felt a little bit of pressure.
Skylar inhaled deeply with her wand in a tight hand.
“Tunc Sibilus.… Tunc Sibilus.… Tunc Sibilus....”
She murmured to herself as a practice before pronouncing it to cast the incantation.
She told herself to remember that what was important was her imagination. She closed her eyes to see the gold chain attached to a gold pocket watch, clinging to her father’s pocket. There was always a tick-tock sound every time she was near him.
The shape of it was clear in her mind as she saw her father kept it everywhere to himself, problably used when he brew some potion.
Skylar opened her eyes with a serious face, then began her spell.
“Tunc Sibilus”
The whistle was reshaped and changed to what she was pictured. She expressed her big smile, happy that she succeeded again.
She looked at the professor again, hoping he would still be proud. Even she succeeded with the practice, but there were a few things she wanted to ask him. Hesitated. Her anti-social mind stopped her.
