Kara placed her bag down beside the tree she was going to read under. Kara had known that her last name was her zodiac sign, but she decided to dive deeper into astrology and astronomy. She pulled out a book called "A Deeper Look Into the Stars: An Introduction to Astrology ." She had gotten it from the library and then came to the tree she usually climbed to do, well, whatever she wanted.
Kara opened the book and started reading just the Table Of Contents, just to get an understanding of what was in this book. It had basic things of astrology, with the chapters being,
Chapter One: Dates and Their Zodiacs
Chapter Two: Planets and Their Zodiacs
Chapter Three: Aries
Chapter Four: Gemini
Chapter Five:Capricorn (Which Kara presumed would be her favorite chapter.)
Chapter Six: Leo
Chapter Seven: Taurus
Chapter Eight: Cancer
Chapter Nine: Pisces
Chapter Ten: Scorpio
Chapter Eleven: Virgo
And so on, there where many more chapters in this book, so she'd wouldn't be bored fo a while, at least, until she has to return the book to the school library.
Kara started reading then heard a rustle above her.
Kara thought to herself that is was a squirrel, but the branch wouldn't be creaking under a squirrel's weight. She looked up into the tree, but she couldn't find anything, or of course, anyone. Kara sat back down against the tree and kept reading, but she had a strange feeling she was being watched, but who could it be?

Dear Tone Hanako,

I hope you enjoyed Hogwarts so far. Be friends with Kara. If you refuse, I'll send a demonstration as to what a howler is.

Yours faithfully,

Ya, Hanako's mother wasn't a big talker but at least she was straight forward. So, on this fine day decided this was the day he placed his fate in the hands of the universe. If they say he'll meet Kara, he'll promise to talk to her but if they didn't, then whatever.

He didn't even know what a howler is so what does it matter. He just wanted to chill on a thick branch of a tree, just daydreaming about plants and plans to destroy every cat in the universe.

But someone just had to interrupt his precious personal space. And by the looks of it, the universe has decided this fine day to be interrupted by the one and only Kara Capricorn.

Due to their parents being friends, the two would frequently see each other when their family visits one another. Being away from Lei may have screwed up Hanako's social needs more than he'd like to admit. Not to mention, his mother always encouraged them to talk, to Hanako's dismay.

Although he held no ill feelings towards the girl, the only redeeming quality he saw in her was how she valued plants as much as he did. He kept that a secret when he found out of their similar interest, continuing to talk to her about mundane things like which toys she would share or how the weather was.

Besides, their visits had often been short-lived due to his mother's busy schedule. And the play dates with her stopped when they turned 10 years old. To be fair, he hasn't seen her for a good year, but he was talented in memorizing people's names and faces so it was easy to recognize her from his position up in the trees.

He saw that Capricorn had noticed him so he hid behind the big truck separating each other's eye views, eternally grateful that he chooses to rest on the opposite side of the tree from her. Once she was done observing, he carefully moved branches hoping he wouldn't fall.

He didn't and took a second to thank the universe.

There he sat idly on a thick branch to Kara's right. Did he make a sound? If so, he hoped she was too absorbed in her book to notice. An Astronomy book, from what he could gather from his new view.

He pondered for a second, thinking of a way to get her attention without looking too boring. Deciding the best way to greet her was to drop leaves on her, he continued to silently pluck as many almost dead leaves he could. Never forgetting to telepathically tell the leaves he was sorry.

Once done, he dropped them on her by grabbing a handful and throwing it like confetti. Once he got her attention, he stopped throwing down leaves and gave her his signature playful grin. That grin he knew she was so very used to.

" Afternoon, Capricorn~ " he greeted . " Just thought this tree was having too many old leaves. Didn't realize you were there though. Did I disturb your studying? Sorry about that~. Already getting ready for the pop quiz professor will give us soon, I see ~"

He playfully beamed. His tone made it difficult to tell if he was purposely making himself look like a liar or not. But if so, he really looked like he didn't care.

Kara felt an array of leaves fall on her, and she spat one out of her mouth. She looked to see Hanako Tone drop beside her with the same playful smile that filled Kara's childhood.

Afternoon, Capricorn~" He said "Just thought this tree was having to many old leaves. Didn't notice you were there though. Did I disturb your studying? Sorry about that~ Already getting ready for the pop quiz professor is going to give us, I see~"

Kara smiled, she hadn't seen Hanako here at Hogwarts yet, it was nice to see him.

"Well, no, actually. I just have an interest in astrology. And don't worry, you didn't disturb me at all, I don't mind!" She said.

She looked at Hanako. He still had the same jet black hair and warm, honey brown eyes. He had finally grown into his chubby cheeks which now was a refined jawline that he would probably say would "attract all the ladies."

She put her book in her bag and plucked a lonely, crumbled up leaf out of Hanako's hair and then started to pull leaves out of her own hair.

"So, I see you're still going with the flashy entrances?" She asked slyly.

She then remembered that she had something of his and when she knew Hanako was going to Hogwarts, she brought it with her, hoping to maybe run into him.
She pulled a preserved flower in a book out of her bag.

"While you were gone, I took care of your little garden patch for you, and it's still there. This is just proof it still exists." Kara said, placing the flower into his palms.

She looked into his affectionate but tricky eyes and blushed slightly, turning her head away from him. She had to admit, he was pretty cute. Kara had just gotten away from Ariana, but her heart seemed to pull her every which way.

" Flashy entrances are so much more fun than mundane greetings. Hello Capricorn, good morning Capricorn, nice weather we're having Capricorn. I rather spend a whole day with cats than ruining the nice reputation I got here ". He sighed dramatically as he allowed her to take out whatever was hiding in his hair.

He carefully observed the lovely flower he was gifted, eventually tucking on his ear. It was common for her to gift his random flowers once in a while when they were kids, and it was basically tradition for him to tuck it behind his ear if it wasn't too big.

He sometimes questioned this odd tradition but if she didn't talk about it, then he shouldn't mind it either. It was out of character for him to do so, but he wasn't the type to act according to what others thought of him anyway.

Too absorbed in placing the flower on a nice angle, it took a while for his brain to comprehend Capricorn's words.

But once he did, a jolt of shock ran through him. " Excuse me? "

He recalled the flower he carelessly placed on his ear and felt a shiver down his spine.

Being a child with less than normal moral values, he made a small garden patch on a garden that hasn't his. It was one the last time he visited Capricorn's house and it was literally years ago. He was believed all this time that the patch won't live for long since he placed it on the most secluded area of her garden.

Now it's revealed that it's still alive? Hanako was slightly conflicted at how he should react to this.

Staring at her with a slightly troubled look, he said with a voice that trailed off. " Did you...how did...?".

Alright, he wasn't that smart in hiding stuff, he supposed.

Embarrassed? It was rude enough to make a random patch of flowers on someone else's lawn. What made it worse is how kindly Capricorn seemed to be taking this.

He was well aware of her fascination with nature but he remembered back then, he was very secretive about his interest in it as well. Now that she knew about the patch, it's obvious she is now aware of his hidden skill?

And it took years to finally got this blown on his face?!

God, how embarrassing. Face visibly red from getting caught, he muttered " Not a word about that. To anyone. I will not hesitate to hunt you down if anyone else knows about this ".

He was absolutely hesitant in hunting her down, ever. Just imagine the things his mother would do if she ever found out was scarier than anything else he knew. But the lightly threatening tone in his voice would most likely hide his hesitance.

Giving out a low sigh, he leaned back on the trunk and quickly tried to change the subject.

" Astrology hm? When stars tell us how we act like and all? You're really into your whole family's tradition huh? Good for you Capricorn, but you do know there's a lot of people that make fun of it right? Personally, I just don't see how the time we were born has anything to do with our lives ~" He pointed out, casually.

Arguing, one of the tactics Hanako loves to use when he wants to forget about something. This time, it was to distract himself from his guilt for not bothering to keep in touch with Capricorn before this.

Do tons of nice things for him and he will not hesitate to return it with a bark or two. But when it comes to his plants, his heart definitely softened.

"Not a word about that. To anyone. I will not hesitate to hunt you down if anyone else knows about this". Hanako had growled to her, clearly embarrassed.

"Don't worry," She said softly, still plucking a few leaves from her hair "I know you well enough to not do that."

She laughed a little and then she figured out he was probably thinking about how she knew all of this. The truth is, she always did, ever since she was five years old.

Her bedroom, which she used to share with Mia, it's window looked right down at the little garden patch in between the bushes, and Kara had once spotted Hanako tending to his secret patch. However, it was secret to Kara.

"And funny enough," She said finally "I've known for a long time."

When Hanako had threatened her, she could tell he tried to slather on a threatening tone like butter and jam on some warm toast, but Kara had known him enough to see right through his little cover-ups.

"Astrology hm? When stars tell us how we act like and all? You're really into your whole family's tradition huh? Good for you Capricorn, but you do know there's a lot of people that make fun of it right? Personally, I just don't see how the time we were born has anything to do with our lives." Hanako asked with a casual tone.

Kara looked at Hanako. He was trying to cover up something, but what could it be. It took a little bit of thought, then it hit her. It was guilt, but what for.

"Well.." Kara responded "They' technically aren't my real family. They are my foster family. I never knew my real family, so I don't know what my family traditions are, and since, astrology isn't just zodiac signs, there's much more to it."

She sighed and sat against the trunk next to him.

"Truth is, I want to know. I also want to know why they gave me up." She said with a sad tone and a small glimmer of sadness in her warm, brown eyes.

"But of course, life isn't fair."

"I know you well enough to not do that."

A sour look crossed his face for a split second before he turned his head away from her, slightly annoyed at her choice of words. He loved being a mysteriously closed off person. Just hearing someone say they know him well enough did not sit well with the boy.

The only reason why she knew more about him than anyone else was because they were forced to talk to each other by their noisy parents. He was one hundred percent sure that Capricorn wouldn't even want to breathe the same air as him.

Hell, their parents got worried when the two weren't as sociable in the last hour. ' Pressured ' was a strong word. It's not like he'll get scolding for ignoring her. He had his reasons. Seeing a small smile on his mother's face when she saw the two of them together was the foundation of it.

But either way, he didn't like how Capricorn had an advantage.

As soon as Kara mentioned her foster family, Hanako calmly looked up the sky, closed his eyes and inhaled the fresh air of oxygen.

' crap I forgot '. He thought to himself, ceasing any body language that might show it.

Even if he forgot about that small detail, his opinion never changed.

With no intention to see more of her sad face, his back slid down the tree trunk slightly further. With his eyes closed and position like he was about to sleep, he embraced the silence that feels a few seconds after Kara's words.

Sleeping at the moment someone is upset was totally his thing. He would've ignored her and catch up on his sleep if it weren't for her recent confession regarding his flower patch. Darn, was Capricorn lucky.

" Oh please, that's what everyone says when they don't understand why some sort of misfortune lands on their laps," he muttered, eyes still shut.

" I'd say life was saving you from something even more horrid. Parents that can't even be responsible for their child don't deserve to be one. Why waste time wondering their intentions when you already have a wonderful family to cherish. Calling people who left you ' parents ' just ruined the definition of it doesn't it? I don't give a grass about your unknown bloodline. To me, your family is the one that we both know. You know who. "

He took a deep breath as if talking more on the matter would dampen his mood. He remembered one of the reasons why he ignored Capricorn before. She had mentioned her background a few times when they were children. Seeing her get upset about something like this made a bitter taste in his tongue.

Envy was something Hanako always tried to stay out of. His pride and egoistical tendencies helped him along the way. But nothing made his blood boil more than people who can't seem to fully appreciate a loving family.

Capricorn's family was more of a family than Hanako's ever was. Seeing them talk to each other lovingly and so comfortably used to make him seethe in envy. Life wasn't fair, as Capricorn said so before. He felt like a hypocrite, but at least he learned it was probably the best his parents weren't the best compared to his childhood friends.

At least, he grew up smarter than any of the other kids around him. More emotionally detached, less petty, and so much more. He grew into an unbreakable kid with a heart that could never suffer. Of course, it was his 11-year-old ego talking.

" Enough of this sappy talk." He declared, using his arm as a shield from the bright sun rays threatening to make his eyes see a distorted reality. " Anyways, your family traditions, right? I can't see how there are many stars can tell us about it. What about you? Are you quite similar to the stereotypical Capricorn? What about me? I'd love to see what deep secrets the stars can tell about me " He snickered, clearly mocking astrology.

Kara looked at Hanako as he slumped down the tree trunk, looking like he was trying to go to sleep. After a little, he finally responded to her rants.

"Oh please, that's what everyone says when they don't understand why some sort of misfortune lands on their laps," Hanako muttered, his eyes still closed. "I'd say life was saving you from something even more horrid. Parents that can't even be responsible for their child don't deserve to be one. I don't give a grass about your unknown bloodline. To me, your family is the one that we both know. You know who."

Kara listened intently, Hanako was right, she would give a damn to what her "parents" told her! Lilly and Matthew were the only parents she ever knew and she'd like to keep it that way. She smiled and looked at Hanako

"Thanks." She whispered softly, not knowing if he even heard her.

"Enough of this sappy talk. Anyways, your family traditions, right? I can't see how there are many stars can tell us about it. What about you? Are you quite similar to the stereotypical Capricorn? What about me? I'd love to see what deep secrets the stars can tell about me " Hanako held his arm up to block the sun with a mocking tone about as hidden as a shark out of water.

She laughed, knowing he was about to get destroyed. A smirk grew on her face.

"Well, you're an Aquarius, and Aquariuses are very similar to you. They don't like showing emotion, they are aloof, meaning cold an distant, they are also very tempermental, but they can also be very prone to commitment to other people, meaning that they are the least likely to get married, but they just haven't found the right match that can break them." Kara told him, hoping to get him to understand.

"But of course, those are the weaknesses of an Aquarius, here are some strengths. They are independent, very much out-of-the-box original, meaning they are like no other, they are progressive, and they are also humanitarians. But you must remember that astrology doesn't define them exactly, it instead just shows a little bit of overview, and don't worry, I'm not like others who are crazy over astrology, I just have a mutual interest, and there's a fine line between interest and obsession."

After a little bit of silence in her mind, she pulled out a poem she was working on and started writing on it further. It stated
"The lonliest people are the brightest,

The saddest people smile the brightest,

The most damaged people are the wis...."
Kara had stopped there in the past and was continuing now.

If he had any intentions to sleep before, it was gone the moment Capricorn finished telling him zodiac.

" Aqua huh? N o! " He whined in protest, his previous cool demeanor immediately replaced with defense mode. He sat straight up again, eyes narrowed at the book in Kara's lap. His face changed drastically way to fast that even he noticed himself. Wasn't it more suspicious if he was aggressively defending himself?

With that thought in mind, he coughed and tried to keep a calm face. He was doing great but the past cannot be changed. But he can pretend it never happened.

" That's just absurd " He huffed, dying deep inside knowing he had to die knowing some big ball of hot air balloons in the sky basically predicted his personality to the core.

It made him sick in the gut. He felt utterly exposed. A book burning of whatever books that educated Kara on this astrology stuff might make his day better. Not only was his garden patch found out, but his personality as well? Was that why Capricorn was always so chill around him even when they were children?

He hated astrology. She said it doesn't determine his personality but what was he supposed to say when his sign basically predicted his personality in a nutshell. Not that he bothered to hide it, but just the fact that stars were able to predict it baffled him.

Or was it just that Kara knew him already, so she tweaked a bit of the story. He wouldn't know. But she was always an honest kid. There was no reason why she would lie to him so suddenly. In fact, it was always the other way around.

With a sigh, he laid back down on the tree trunk as if all the thinking exhausted him. " Fine. I admit some stuff was true. But prone to commitment? psffftttt, please ~ " he snickered.

" Kara, I don't do commitments, period. And seize any mentions of the M word. It gives me the chills "

He rubbed his arms as if the bright sun on him wasn't enough to save him for marriage talk.

" And 'break' is a really scary word to use, Capricorn~. If you use words like that, I'll be darn sure no one gets close enough to me to 'break' me you know? I'd like to keep my heart intact, thanks but no thanks~ " He lightly joked. Although, he was telling the truth.

He always thought the moment he allowed himself to get too involved with someone, he will definitely be too exposed to heartbreak. He had enough of them when he was a child, just throwing tantrums to get his parents to come back from work earlier. What better way to catch someone's attention by dumping all their feelings on you?

After being disappointed again and again, Hanako realized there was a better way to do it.

And that was to not care in the first place. Bless.

He didn't want to go back to those days so there was no way he was going to allow himself to fall in that same pit again. His zodiac was just a reminding slap to him. Reminding him of the promise he made to himself when he wanted to be stronger.

Speaking of that, he probably shouldn't get too close to Kara as well. But then he has his mother trying to get them to be closer friends, and Kara wasn't too bad of a person to hang out with.

Hanako was conflicted about what he should do.

But he'll leave it to the Hanako of tomorrow. For now, he just noticed Kara writing something in her book. He wanted to talk more about astrology, but that's for another time.

" What'cha writing there~?" he asked curiously, lightly leaning to Kara to get a better view of the book.

"Kara, I don't do commitments, period. And seize any mentions of the M word. It gives me the chills." Hanako growled, rubbing his arms.

She almost burst into laughter, but that was his problem, not her's, no matter how much she hated it.

In his honey-brown eyes, she saw him stare off into space for a little, looking like he was reflecting. She wondered, what was he thinking of.

"What'cha writing there~?" Hanako asked with an airy voice, his cool demeanor returning as he leaned over to see the piece of parchment on her lap.

"Just a poem, I guess looking upon the lives of people, and my own I guess." She responded, pointing to the poem she had just finished, which read as,
"The lonliest people are the kindest,

The saddest people smile the brightest,

The most damaged people are the wisest,

All because they do not wish to see others suffer like they do."
Kara handed it to him and knowing that the whole "astrology" thing seemed to annoy him and make him uncomfortable, she took her astrology book she had and picked it up, nearing the Great Lake, which was near them.

She arrived and looked back to Hanako, who was still at the tree. She then threw the book into the Great Lake and watched it bubble to the bottom of the Great Lake.

"I can get another some other time."

"The loneliest people are the kindest,

He carefully took the note and read it thoroughly.

" Man, quite deep for kids our age " He slightly joked, not noticing the girl had already made her way in front of the great lake.

The poem was short, had a style that rhymed at the last sentence of each stanza. It was straight forward and doesn't even contain a single simile. Yet, Hanako resonated with the poem. He studied poems. He was too used to analyzing poems at his level that had this and that. It was refreshing to see one that was very simple to understand.

Of course, he wasn't going to tell Kara that. Like hell will he reveal he likes reading poems as well. She already knows he likes gardening, there's no telling what she could find out about.

" Loneliest people smile the brightest huh~" he lightly laughed. " Hey Kara, I'll have you know my social circle isn't that big bu-"

He dropped the paper just in time to witness Kara throwing the gigantic book as if it meant nothing into a deep pool called the great lake.

His mouth hung open as the loud splash rung his ears. He was in short words, shocked. Part of him wanted to scold Kara like a child. That was no way to treat a book and the small bookworm part of him screamed inside. But another wanted to scream in joy.

So he did.

He busted out in a genuine laugh, almost toppled over his previous positions just trying to catch his breath.

" That was amazinnnggg " he wheezed, pleasantly shocked at Kara's actions. He had never seen her act so spontaneous, it made him look at her in a new light.

After calming down, he took the poem and walked towards Kara with a big smile. " I'm disappointed you didn't tell me as well. I wanted to throw that book in for a while now " He stood next to Kara, looking down on the water that just swallowed that cursed book.

He wondered the reason for her spontaneous action. She likes that book, didn't she? Don't tell him she did that because she noticed how defensive he was. He was delighted he didn't have to see that book again, but he couldn't deny the small tug of guilt in his chest.

If he seemed more open to it, would Kara still do it?

She's odd. But he didn't want to know more about her. She surprised him enough today. He feared the worst if they continued talking more, their relationship would develop.

No way ho zay was that going to happen. Not to his watch.

" Well, I hope you enjoyed that. If you ask me, we should top it off with a nap before class starts ~" he suggested casually, before walking back to their tree.

" It was my tree first, but I'm willing to share. Compensation for that dumb zodiac information ". he said, laying on the grass under the tree like he previously did before he got exposed by stars. He closed his eyes and started drifting off.

Zodiac was far from dumb from what Kara told him. He just didn't want to give Kara the satisfaction that he actually believed it. With his eyes closed, he planned a letter to write to his caretaker.

Asking her to buy an astrology book and send it to him as soon as possible.
