A Walk to Remember
Willow was amazed when Flash's spell went off without a hitch. While she was successful in her classes, having also learned reparo she couldn't imagine using spells outside of a classroom context. She struggled sometimes with spellcasting, and was too fearful of the consequences to go through with it. "I'm glad you're here, I was about to sweep the pieces into a pile in a corner. I'm not ready to do spells outside of class. Thanks for staying." She gave a small smile his way, not fully meeting her eyes since she was still embarrassed about getting so worked up over all the plants. Willow thought others might think that she's absolutely crazy, even if Flash thought that he was good at hiding it.
They worked in silence as they re-potted the plants, which was pretty easy since they were both pretty decent at herbology. The pain in her hand wasn't getting worse, but it wasn't getting any better either. Which was a decent sign that it's not poisonous at least it hasn't started taking effect. She took a step back proud of their accomplishment of saving the plants. She was ready to ditch this greenhouse for once, grab some breakfast and head to class.
Until Flash called her out.
She was caught off guard and looked over at him, wondering if she could lie through this. She ultimately decided there was no point, because the plants were fixed so if he dragged her out of here there wasn't really a consequence. "So... I know most of these plants, like a decent amount. I can name eighty percent. Which I think is really impressive." She was trying to soften the blow, but was just dragging out the inevitable. "Okay so I didn't actually know if the one I got pricked from is poisonous or lethal. But I couldn't leave the plants, they needed more help than I did. It's probably fine. Look!" She took off the glove she was wearing over that hand, but the guaze was fully soaked with blood.
She suddenly felt dizzy from the sight of all the blood, her blood specifically. She stumbled back to lean on the table, the injury finally settling in on how bad it was. But, she still felt the need to play it cool. She didn't want him to think that she was just a weak Hufflepuff, but she was definitely not okay and maybe going to pass out. She couldn't tell. She quickly tucked her hand behind her back, as if that would hide what he has already seen. "What we should focus on is the fact that we saved the plants, and hopefully a cat! We should get breakfast as a reward."

A Walk to Remember
Willow sheepishly tried to continue to downplay the seriousness of the prick, but it was clear from the moment she started explaining herself that it was something neither of them were capable of making a call on. Her stubbornness could have made her wound worse, what with the work she insisted on continuing. Flash felt a bit wounded that she lied to him, but he could understand why she did it. She didn't want him to worry about her.
It was one thing to break into the greenhouse-- there were a few reasons why Flash could see her reasoning for thinking it was important-- but to ignore one’s own suffering for the suffering of plants was something Flash had never encountered before. If it hadn’t been so obvious, he may not have believed it could be true.
”No, we’re going to the hospital wing, we have to make sure you’re alright. Just accept that.” Flash insisted, not wanting Willow to have the room to argue this time. ”I’ll bring you some breakfast after that, alright?”
They were done there, and every second got them closer to having all their hard work be for nothing, so regardless of the fact he was trying to make a point, Flash still actively ushered Willow to the door, hoping to escape detection while everything was back to normal.

A Walk to Remember
Willow had the automatic urge to protest, it was in her nature to try and take care of herself. She once hid a broken arm from her parents for a whole day because she was worried about getting in trouble. Maybe in this case it was too high stakes to really argue. She let Flash usher her out of the Greenhouse, yelling a quick goodbye to all of the plants as they left. She opened the door just as much as she needed to squeeze out to try and not draw too much attention to herself as there were a few students roaming. And while she didn't think of him in that way, a boy and girl sneaking out of a greenhouse doesn't look that great.
The sun was already brilliantly lighting up the day, after so many cold and dark months it was always nice to feel the warmth on her skin. But she felt like Flash wouldn't let her stop to bathe in the rays so she kept on going.
"If we're going to the hospital wing I want you to get your head looked at too. I'm not the only one that has battle wounds from the forbidden greenhouse." She laughed, her heart felt a lot lighter knowing she was able to save the plants and without getting caught too.
"What exactly are we going to say our injuries our from? We can't say we broke into the greenhouse, although is it really breaking in if the door was unlocked?" If it was unlocked, it was less breaking in and more so showing up uninvited which was more just socially unacceptable than lawfully unacceptable.

A Walk to Remember
They were far away from the greenhouse, the cat was free, and the plants were saved. The universe had once again been saved thanks to the amazing Flash Holmwood. On most occasions, he would have felt a sense of satisfaction with the idea of Willow spreading the news of his more noble virtues-- hopefully leaving out the terrible failures-- but he was just glad it happened at all.
Even walking to the hospital wing with what could very well be serious cuts and bruises, they laughed as they recounted the comedic nature of their misadventure. Flash almost forgot the dull stinging pain on his brow, he was too thrilled to have made it through the ordeal mostly unscathed.
He felt like being around Willow was like being around plants, calming yet enlivening. The mornings that he spent with her were better than the ones he spent alone, even on the day when everything went horribly wrong.
”Don’t worry, I’ll talk to the nurse,” Flash reassured her, not at all worried about finding a way to bend the truth. Still, there was something that bothered him that he couldn't get off his mind,”but from now on, don’t hide things from me… okay?

A Walk to Remember
The relief of finally getting away from greenhouse felt like a giant weight off of her shoulder had been lifted. In the short time of knowing Flash, she felt like she knew exactly what it was like to have a sibling by her side all of her life. They would protect each other. In the greenhouse they had both given the other the chance to leave, but neither of them did. She felt like that solidified the loyalty between them. An unspoken agreement to get through whatever trouble they got into next, though hopefully not anytime soon as they were a little bit worse for wear.
Her heart did still hurt as Flash seemed hurt from Willow hiding the fact that she had injured her hand so badly. In her head she knew why she did what she did, but she felt like Flash might think that it's stupid or silly. She figured the only way to make him understand was to tell him, even if he made fun of her. "I knew you would've dragged me out of there the second you figured out I was injured so badly. Large plants have large thorns, and this one just got me really good. But I feel like I owe something to plants in danger." She looked over to gauge his reaction, but kept going. "When I told you to talk to the plants so long ago, it's because I would talk to them on the daily. When I couldn't tell my parents about the stuff happening at school, I would talk to our plants at home. They were there for me when I felt like no one else was. They were my best friends." She sighed, feeling like she sounded so stupid. "So now I feel like I owe it to them to take exceptional care of them, since they took exceptional care of me. I won't hide something like that again. I just wanted you to know I wasn't doing it just because I wanted to be a hero for the plants, it's more personal for me."
She stuffed her hands in her robe pockets, keeping her eyes on the ground. She had never told anyone about this, and she felt more vulnerable and nervous than ever. She felt something in her pocket that she had been meaning to give to him. "I wanted to give this to you actually, but we kind of got distracted." She pulled a bracelet out of her pocket, it had green, yellow, and blue intricately knotted next to each other. With a closure that allowed him to pull it closed rather than tie it. "It's green and yellow for our houses, and then blue. Kind of as a symbolism for a combination of us." She held up her non-injured hand, her robe sleeve falling down and revealing she had the same one. "You don't have to wear it as a bracelet, I know guys kind of hate jewelry. I just wanted you to have the matching one." She had given out friendship bracelets to a lot of people, but didn't have any matching with anyone and she wanted Flash to be the first one she shared that with.

A Walk to Remember
As Willow began to explain her reasoning, Flash found himself easily relating. He hadn’t talked to plants growing up, but they had always been there for him. Any time he needed to breathe, to escape, he ran out into the hills as far as his feet would take him and until he collapsed. Wherever he ended up, he was surrounded by nature. The earth sapped all of the unhappiness out of him and healed his heart.
Nature was the only thing that accepted him wholeheartedly, no matter what he did or said. Once he died, his body would rot and become part of it, as all things did. Even his family, and all of the people he would ever meet, would someday return to the soil. He needed that certainty in his life, the stability it provided. Even though their circumstances were wildly different, both of them had been rescued by nature.
Then, she brought out the bracelet. She handed it to him meekly, as if expecting him to hide it away in his bag. Instead, he took it graciously and fastened it to his wrist, admiring it.
”I love these colors, they go great together.” Flash beamed at her. ”Just like us, right?”
He looked forward to showing it off.
