Bootleg Quidditch
In truth, Zephyr was not used to crowds or loud area, but he could handle cold and wet mornings just fine. Growing up on a farm meant he had done chores in far worse weather than this and he survived them all. Even through this drizzle that soaked into the collar of his robe, he didn’t complain at all. He just breathed slowly trying to keep his nerves from being obvious. He stood off to the side with the other second string players while holding his Comet 180 close to his body. He wasn’t going up in the air yet. He was going to wait for his turn, and be ready when the team needed him which suited him just fine. He liked learning and observing before doing anything big. At least this way, he’s not going to mess up and humiliate himself. This is better, observing first. This was also a good way to pick up the other team’s technique.
He glanced around at his teammates as they gathered the field. Elena looked so calm, he couldn’t even imagine himself copying her that way. Vera’s good luck earned a shy nod from him. Graci looked like she was preparing for battle, it’s only his opinion which was amusing, really. Tatiana was near the hoops with a focus which reminded him to clear his head. They all seemed ready. They were given instructions, and all he could do was listen seriously even though he was already familiar with the rules, it doesn’t mean he’s just going to ignore the words. He didn’t need a reminder of the rules, but hearing them again assured him he’s not forgetting anything. He reminded himself that he practiced for this. Every early morning, every simple drill, every mistake he worked through, this was why he did it.
He gripped his broom, still not used to such a good broom. Compared to the old school brooms he trained himself with, this one was very smooth and more balanced not to mention faster too! That knowledge somehow made him nervous, but there’s also the excitement. With a better broom he feels more prepared now. Focusing on the players, he observed how they mounted, how they held their brooms, how they deal with the rain and how the wind pushed at them. Everything.

Geneva shuddered as she walked onto the training pitch. As if Scottish winters weren't enough, the sky was grey today and bore ominous signs of impending rain. Normally Geneva wouldn't be anywhere near the outdoors in this weather, but unfortunately she had signed up for this.
She had been looking forward to this match- her chance to try Quidditch without the pressure of a real match. But being the way that she was, she had created all the pressure for herself. She had never really been amazing at sports. Teamwork was tricky, and she'd always been small for her age. But maybe this was a chance for that to change. As casual as this match was, she didn't want to mess it up.
She'd had some practice flying, but she wasn't amazing at it. And although she knew the basic rules of the game, she felt pathetic next to some of the other students in her year. For instance, Livia, who was moderating the match, seemed to have already ascended to Quidditch team captaincy as a first year. Not only that, she was also a duellist. She didn't know the girl well, but she could tell just by her air that she was a pure-blood. Typical.
Geneva shrugged this off. She would do the best she could, and hope for some miracle that kept her from making a fool of herself. She recognized a few people on her team- Maisie, the Ravenclaw from the train, and Percy, her classmate. She gave them a slight, nervous smile and wave before mounting her broom and pushing off of the ground.
Here goes nothing.

Percival stood near the edge of the group with his fingers curled around the polished handle of his new broom. The sleek wood of the Comet 180 still felt strange in his grip. He had only flown it a handful of times, but the difference between this relatively cheap broom and the basic school broom still surprised him. And now, he finally got a chance to try it out during a game of Quidditch, even if it was just an unofficial one.
After looking around at his teammates, he noticed that Maisie waved at him. Her smile helped settle whatever nerves still lingered from the last time he’d joined an unofficial game and taken a tumble.
"It's a new game," she tried to reassure him.
Percival nodded with an appreciative smile, "Don't worry, I feel good about today's game," he said, clearly a little more confident than during his first game. "I got a new broom and some great teammates." His grin widened as he focused on her. It was already exciting enough to play another game of Quidditch, but playing with Maisie on his team made it even better.
His gaze then shifted to Livia as she addressed everyone, and much like Maisie, he decided to head over to listen. Nothing she said was unexpected because he knew the rules of the game, but it still made everything feel a little more official. The rules were now set, the various Quidditch balls were ready, and everybody looked eager to get started.
This was going to be fun!
Together with his teammates, Percival mounted his broom and kicked off from the ground to head into the sky. He would be a chaser this game, so he knew what he had to do: score as many points as he possibly could to help win them the game.
He was ready.

XX𝕿he last month could be very easily called, 'Signing up for things on a whim' for Violence because what in the WORLD had urged her to sign up for quidditch? First of all, it was bootleg quidditch which meant that people would be doing stuff other than what the rules stated. Following the rules for a sport was already hard, and now she had to make sure she was protected from stuff that wasn't a part of it too? Merlin knew if she had to option to back out, she would have. But it was a question of her self-respect however, if she backed out, she wouldn't be looked at the same. Besides, she had powered through broom racing too, how hard could this be? Plus, no spells were to be used either. So this had to be easier, right?
As she did a few stretching exercises in her dormitory before going to the pitch, she thought about the letter she had received from her parents a few days ago. Why had they insisted on Violence coming home? Was there something they had to tell her? Had she done something? She could, even through a piece of paper, understand what her mother's tone was, and Artemis was never so insistent. Maybe it was a good thing, maybe there was a surprise for her. What if the Duvals were at the mansion? Whatever it was, she had to go back home for the holidays to find out.
This time, Violence knew better and put on a black fitted tank top with black leggings. She was determined not to ruin any more clothes for sports and she wouldn't really mind if anything happened to her leggings so she was satisfied with it. She had a cropped hoodie on to protect her arms from the cold air of December. Quickly putting a water bottle and a hand towel in her bag, she ran out of the room to the quidditch pitch. Violence was told that she was a substitute player.
Which was a relief for Violence because that meant, that if nobody was knocked off their broom, or atleast if no chaser was, she wouldn't have to play. Which would be so much better for Violence because that meant she wouldn't be embarrassing herself infront of the 22 people there, and whoever would be watching from the stands. She barely paid attention when Livia was telling them about, what Violence assumed would be rules. The girl had duelled Violence a little more than a month ago and Violence had to admit, Livia was an amazing witch. After a little while, she sat down next to another girl already sitting there. Violence just knew that they were from the same team. She stared on ahead waiting for the match to begin.

After the last unofficial quidditch game left Leo out after the first round, Leo was determined to try to do better, or at least stay in for longer, for the unofficial game he signed up for. Luckily for him he was placed on a team with Rosaline and Avery again and even Althea was on the team as well. Not so luckily his opponents were some of his other friends. Cecilia, Lucille and Verity were all on the opposing team but he was not going to go easy on them just because they were there. He found it funny that Lucille and Cecilia were playing today after they were still fairly new to the game when the three had watched the first game of the year together. But that didn’t mean he could underestimate them, or the rest of their team. And he especially couldn’t lose to Cece since the two of them had put a friendly wager on the match. There was no way he could lose this one to her or else he would be forced to don a beard and big red suit to dress up like Santa.
Leo joined his other teammates, greeting those he hadn’t gotten to meet before and then smiling and waving to Rosaline, Avery and Althea. Everyone seemed pumped for the game which made Leo even more excited to get out there and start playing. “We got this guys, just do your best!” He added as the others were also trying to encourage the team with positivity. They had their captain, they had their strategy for the game, and now it was time to play. He mounted his new broom, or old technically since his brother passed it down to him, and flew up to get in his starting position. The cold air hit his face hard as he was up higher now, but soon they would be playing and all thoughts of the uncomfortable chill would be gone.

── The weather was so horrid that Cecilia had half the mind to wrap herself in her quilt before heading to the pitch. As the cold nipped at her cheeks, she began to lament forgoing it. Still, she was excited for the game. Though she lacked knowledge of the sport, she welcomed any excuse to fly a broom. This would also be an opportunity to express gratitude to Livia for responding to her duelling request. With a wide grin, she waved excitedly to Liva before running over to her team.
Lucille, Verity and Aodhan proved to be formidable flyers in broom racing. Though she had not met the others before, she trusted that her team would do well. Her smile softened as she glanced down at her broom. A second-year student had been kind enough to loan it to her, so she would try to treat it with the utmost care. Well, as much care as one could have in a game of Quidditch.
Her brows furrowed upon remembering that her dear friend, Leo, stood among the Pegasi. They had placed a friendly wager on the game, and while it was all in good fun, she was fairly certain that a white beard and bright red hat did not suit her. However, she bore greater concerns than a fashion faux pas. Dread filled her as she cast her mind back to the first Quidditch game they watched together. All those silly remarks about not knowing the sport could certainly come back to bite her. She would have to remain vigilant and hope that her exchange with Livia had taught her enough to put up a fight.
I swear if you send me to the hospital wing, Noxley… her eyes narrowed as she glanced at him. Cecilia did not place him for a beater, but she knew better than to underestimate him. Someone as calm and collected as Leo was often more tenacious than one would expect.
Her brows then rose as her gaze drifted to a few familiar faces. Maisie, whom she looked up as well as the lovely upperclassmen from broom racing – Althea and Avery. It was unnerving to compete against them, but she was rather amused to see that a familiar Gryffindor would be on Leo’s side – Rosaline. The sight brought a small smile to her face before she turned her attention back to the pitch. It was time to focus.
Once she took her position, she heeded their captain's encouragement with a nod before calling out to her team. “We’ve got this! Altius volantis1!”

It has been a while since Sabrina's soared through the sky free of the limits that came with Flying classes, the prospect of it alone enough to coo her out of the stone castle and into the Quiddich field.
The ground was soft under her feet, the dirt's thirst satisfied, water became to pool at the roots of the glistening grass. The young raven didn't mind the bad weather, would even go as far as to say she was fond of it. The light drizzel that caught in her braided hair and soaked into her clothing was refreshing, cooling her overloaded mind, cold pinching at the tips of her ears and nose leaving them dusted red, grounding. And she needed that, quite desperately, given the string of social anxiety already curling around her neck, making it harder to breath. It tightened ever so slightly as she looked around, noting that most of the faces around her were unfamiliar. The pounding of her heart reaching her ears, the smaller girl stood up straighter, attempting to give her chest the space to hold air that it now lacked.
Don't focus on that, she reminded herself, focus on what matters, on why you're here. Her mind wondered back to a game already finished, one that played out last year. When she was less experienced but more free in mind, beaming as her wooden bat colided with it's target.
The force. The rush. The joy. Shared joy.
One that cannot be achieved on one's own. Focusing on that feeling, she let a smile bloom on her face. It only brightened as she gave a small wave to @Maisie Gemmell, a girl that was her teammate last year and oponent now.
While Livia gave her pre-game speech, Sabrina silently nodded along, going over the rules and strategies she read through in preparation for this day in her head. With a roll of her wrist she let her arm go slack, feeling the full weight of the bat nested in her palm, a returned extention of her she hopefully hadn't forgotten how to wield.
Blinking away the specks of water gathering on her eyelashes, she took off, leaving the ground behind and, hopefully, all that dragged her down with it.

It was a place she had been to several times since she came to Hogwarts. Most of the time was training for the Gryffindor Team; the other time was an unofficial game, which her team ended up losing quite badly. Rosaline’s lips curled into a wry smile. She arrived. Clutching her scarf tighter, she looked around to see who had come. The players were already showing up. She knew most of her teammates and opponents. It was amusing that she, Avery, Althea, and Maisie were on the same team again. And there were Leo and Percival, her previous unofficial knockout Quidditch Game teammates. Cecilia, Lucille, and Verity were on the other team. Also, she spotted a familiar face, Graci, the Gryffindor she had met on a summer day.
As she got a chance to greet her teammates and friends, their moderator, Livia, called everyone over. Rosaline stepped closer to listen to her. After the speech, everyone settled in their position — first string players were ready to kick off, second strings were to sit on the bench. She followed her teammates. She was going to be a bench Beater today, a position she hadn’t tried before. But she had made up her mind that if her team needed her, she would definitely do her best.

Morning
Time: 10pm
It was a cold winter morning. Lily had been woken awake an hour or two before she had really wanted to. It was her first ever quidditch match today. She felt really scared and nervous. What if she could not do her job properly. After all, she was a Beater, the same role her elder sister, Isabelle, was. What if she couldn't swing the bat in time, and worse, hit it on someone's nose? And even worse, what if a Bludger hit her square on the nose, or anywhere, for the fact?
She decided to drink some cold water; it helped her calm down her jitters. She walked down to the ground. The ground felt hard and had a good grip. She prayed to the lords that she wouldn't do anything, literally anything, to disappoint her sister in any way.
She went towards her team. She knew some people in her team. There was Tatiana, Lily had voted for her to be a director in a club. Then there was Charlotte, she had actually bumped into her several times, and she had helped Lily find her way through the corridors. And then there was Zephyr. He was her fellow classmate and housemate, so obviously she knew him.
The rest, she didn't know. Hell, she hadn't even heard their names yet..
Then she heard a whistle. Livia, the referee was calling all of the players at her side. She looked focused at her job as she listed the roles for everyone to hear.
Then, she told them to mount their brooms. Lily held her Comet 180 tightly , just held her broom and watched. She felt that she was not so nervous now. She saw her friends at the bleachers, cheering for her and holding up banners.
She smiled looking at them, feeling the support from them. And then the sharp whistle brought her to the present.....
