A tiny surprise

The train just arrived at King's Cross. Edward was excited to see his parents again and tell them all the stories of his first year at Hogwarts. He had not seen him for six months as he had stayed at Hogwarts over the Easter break. An he had just attended the summer camp with international school attendence. Hence, he was getting home a month later than he had expected. Not that he was obliged to have stayed for the camp but his parents had urged him to stay and make some connections. Overall, it had been an interesting camp but Edward still had difficulties to reach out to other people.
He made his way through the hustle and bustle at the platform, carrying his trunk and trying to spot his parents. Then he saw his father waving and ran towards them. Edward's father hurried towards him to help with the trunk and embraced Edward. "Good to see you back, Edward!"
Then Edward turned to his mother when he saw that she was carrying not something but someone! Was that? How could that be? "Mom?" He looked at her, confused. "Hello darling! How are you!" And she as well embraced her son. "But how? When?" His confusion turned into anger. "Why did you not tell me anything?" His parents looked at each other. Then his father tried to lay his arm around Edward but he dodged and just briskly walked past them and towards the exit.
"Wait! Edward!" But Edward did not wait. He got a sibling and nobody cared about telling him before. Didn't they want me to know? Maybe my parents are happy that I am at Hogwarts now. Maybe I am not important to them anymore. And his anger turned into fear and frustration. Tears were filling up in his eyes and he was walking faster, so that none of his classmates could see if they were still at the platform.
When he reached the gate, Edward realised that also without his parents, he was getting nowhere. So he just found the nearest bench and sat down, waiting for them to catch up. He had definitely imagined this differently. He had been so excited to tell about his adventures but now he wasn't sure he still wanted that. Or whether they would even care.
"Edward, there you are." His dad reached him and sat next to him on the bench. As Edward wanted to jump up again to urge them to go, his father gently pulled him down and this time lay his arm around him to hold him. "Look. It's okay to be confused" "I am not confused! I know perfectly well what happend. I am just.. why didn't you tell me?" His farther sighed. "It's also okay to be angry. We did not want to keep the news from you, Ed. But it's also not exactly something you would want to hear in a letter, would you? We wanted to tell you personally. And then over Easter it was your wish to stay at Hogwarts. We were glad you enjoyed your time there. You have to tell us all that you experienced!"
With the last sentence and his father's real interest in what Edward had experienced, Edward calmed a bit and a smile found its way onto his face. He leaned into the hug with his father.
"Shall we go home then, Edward? Let's talk about everything we all experienced in the past year over dinner." And Edward also got up and they joined his mother and the little one. Edward even did not know whether he got a little brother or sister.
He approached his mother and hugged her from the side, careful about the tiny human that she was carrying tightly to her body in front of her. "I am sorry, mom", he whispered and looked down. His mother ran her fingers through his hair. "It's okay, darling. It's not your fault. We are sorry that we haven't told you anything." She then lifted the cloth that was covering the tiny baby. "Her name is Leah. She was born just over a month ago." Curious now, Edward peeked inside the cloth and the cuteness overwhelmed him. Awestruck, he smiled a big smile but also some tears came running down his face. "Soo tiny." He whispered. What a tiny surprise.
"Now let's go home. I got us a taxi this time. Better not to apparate or use a portkey with a newborn." And they left the platform and station.
