Sending Letters Back Home

Lily entered the Owlery on the evening of a cloudy day. She had received a letter from her parents, before during breakfast, and she thought of replying back to them. She still wasn't sure what to write or what to include. She still couldn't believe that it was a month since she had arrived in Hogwarts. From attending lectures, to making friends, to signing up for clubs, time had flown so quickly that she hadn't noticed.

It was very quite in the Owlery, with no one in there."Perfect", she thought. Lily could only focus in silence and she needed peace to write a letter.

She took out roll of paper, a quill which was gifted by her mother on her 10th birthday and a bottle of ink. Unrolling the paper, she bagan to write.
Dear Mother and Father,
How is everything at home? Is everyone okay?
I received your letter today. I am doing fine. Made a lot of new friends. Had trouble finding the right class for the first few days. Signed up for many clubs.
The time is going just so fast, I didn't even have time to talk with you.
My lectures are all going good, all of my professors are great, they are interactive and funny. I have been reaching the lectures on time, studying hard, doing homework on time and submitting them punctually. You know, I even got a few House Points in our subjects!!!
All is going good here. I miss you guys so much. Wish I could meet you.....
Say hello to Isabella from my side.
Hoping to hear soon.
Bye!!
Her hands stumbled on the words a lot, she didn't know what stuff to write. She paused in between a lot of times. But she wrote the letter anyways.

After writing the letter, she folded the scroll and tied it with a pretty ribbon she had found. Going towards a school owl (she still hadn't bought an owl) she tied the letter on a barny owl who held out a leg for her.

After the bird had flown away, she stayed there for a while. She thought about the last few days, always full of rush. Maybe it was time to slow things down.......

Sending Letters Back Home
Lily entered the now familiar room of Owlery, the scent of feathers and quills and old parchment paper filling the room.

She closed the door behind her, thanking the gods that she was all alone. She would rather write letters alone than with any person around her, peering down her shoulders all the time to read her messages.

She took out the letter she had received from her parents from the insides of her cloak. It had arrived the day before, but she had been so busy, that she didn't even open it.

She opened the letter carefully. This is what the letter read:
Hello Lily,
We were so happy to hear from you! It is good to know you are settling in well, making friends, and even earned House Points! Everyone at home is doing fine, and Isabella was delighted to hear your hello. She misses you too.
Isabella heard that you have been having problems finding classes. She said that it was nothing to worry about and that it happens to every first year.
Honestly, it is very quiet at home without you, but we feel proud knowing you growing and learning well.
Keep writing letters to home. It is a reminder for us that you are trying to be as connected to home as you possibly could.
Take care of yourself; it gets really cold in winters (though it is good to play in the snow there).
From Mother and Father
She read the letter twice, going through every word. The corners of her lips curved upwards.
She quickly took out a piece of parchment, a quill and a bottle of ink; eager to write a reply back.
Dear Mother and Father,
It made me really happy to get your letter. I’m glad everything is fine at home, and tell Isabella I miss her too
Finding my classes has become....well, quite interesting so let’s call it an adventurous cardio session. But I’m getting better at it! And yes, I did earn some House Points (maybe I had a victory dance afterwards. Who knows?)
I miss home as well, but I’m settling in more each day, making new friends everyday. Hearing from you makes me feel a lot closer, like you’re right here cheering me on.
Don’t worry, I’ll keep writing. Take care, and I’ll bundle up when winter comes.
Send love for my sister, she needs a whole bundle of it.
With lots of love,
Lily
She ended the letter with her signature. She went through the letter again and said, "Perfect!".

She approached her owl, Calliope, with her letter in hand. Stroking her owl a few times, she tied the letter, and brought her to the window, from where she flew away.
It felt good that her relationship with her parents had been good, even after being away from them...

Sending Letters Back Home
On her way to the Owlery, she took out the letter which she had received from her parents in the morning. She was curious about what they might have written. In the way however, she met many people, mostly known. She stopped several times to talk with everyone, which made her a bit late, but she enjoyed talking with them.

Soon, she entered the room, shutting the door behind her. This time, though, she wasn't as lucky as she was the previous two times. Two boys were standing there, sending an owl too. They were laughing and snorting, making Lily think that they were doing a prank or something. Maybe. She left them at it, only smiling awkwardly when they looked at her.

She went near the table and took out the letter from the inside of her hoodie for the second time. She opened it and saw that there were two things. One of them was a picture of her parents and her sister having fun somewhere (they hadn't told her about it). The other was the letter itself. She unfolded it and began to read.
Dearest Lily,

Your letter brought such brightness to our day—your father read it twice, and I caught him smiling both times. We’re so proud to hear you’re finding your way around, even if it sometimes turns into an impromptu treasure hunt. Consider all that wandering excellent training for whatever adventures await you next.

House Points already? That’s our Lily. I can practically see that victory dance from here, and I’m sure it was well-earned.

We’re happy to hear you’re settling in and that new friends are finding their way to you—you’ve always had a way of making people feel welcome. Knowing that you’re surrounded by good company makes the house feel a little less quiet.

Isabella lights up every time she hears your name. She misses you fiercely and sends you the biggest hug she can manage. We’ll make sure she feels all the love you’re sending.

Keep writing when you can, but don’t fret if your days get busy—we know you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. And yes, please do bundle up when the cold sets in. You’ve never liked chilly mornings.

We love you more than all the stars above the castle.

With all our love,
Mother and Father
She felt the need to laugh and cry at the same time while reading the letter. She whipped out her quill and began writing.
Mother and Father,

Your letter arrived this morning, carried by the fluffiest owl I’ve ever seen—I think it judged me for taking so long to untie the string. But once I finally got it open, I read every word twice, just like Father did with mine. It felt like a warm hug all the way from home.

Thank you for your kind words. I’m trying my best here, and knowing you’re proud of me makes every confusing staircase and moving portrait feel a little less intimidating. And yes, I promise I’ll keep earning House Points… and maybe dancing about it only a little.

I’m really glad to hear Isabella is doing well, even if she’s missing me. Tell her that I miss her just as fiercely and that I’m saving up stories to tell her when I come home for the holidays. Please give her that enormous hug back—she deserves every bit of love you can wrap around her.

I will bundle up when winter comes, I promise! The breeze in the courtyards already has a bit of a bite to it.

Thank you for reminding me I’m right where I’m meant to be. Your words mean more to me than I can write in one letter.

By the way, I saw that you had a lot of fun wherever you had went. Don't you guys miss me anymore? (Just kidding, I know you guys love me and miss me every single moment)

Anyways, I love you all so much.

With love always,
Lily
She ended the letter, and re-read it twice to make sure it was correct. She whistled to Calliope, tied the letter to its leg and took her to the window from where she flew away. She awaited the next letter from them.

Sending Letters Back Home
Lily surprised herself by being the first one to reach out to her parents. As it was, something had happened and now she had to tell them about it. Honestly, they hadn't even replied to the previous one, and now she couldn't keep the talk in her stomach.

She hurried down the corridor and opened the Owlery door. The hootings and whistling greeted her, but this time, she didn't stop to pet them. She ran to the parchment section, rolled out a piece of paper, and began writing hurriedly.
Dear Mother and Father,
I know it may seem weird, seeing that I was the one to contact you first, but something happened today and I had to tell it to you guys.

You guys do know about my bestie, right? If you don't, well she is the best person here. The number one prankster and we have got the same wavelength. We both are partners-in-crime, you can say.
Which brings me to the next thing.

We both had decided to play a prank on someone. Namely her elder brother, Louis. You know that we learnt the Dancing Feet Charm a few days ago... So, we decided to use it on him. And then, a disaster struck. He dodged the spell, and it hit three innocent (well, not completely...) by-standers. Oh gods. It was so FREAKING embarrassing.

And to top of it off like a cherry on a sundae, one of the boy knew Maddy. Oh, the look on her face was just... AMAZING.

Well, we did apologize to them, and I did ask them to be our friends. Me and Maddy also decided to give them some treats as it WAS our fault and we were feeling generous, so why not?

Anyways, that's it. I will be going now. I gotta complete today's homework too. Bye. Send love and kisses to Isabelle from my side.

Yours lovingly,
Lily
She ended the letter, and without wasting any moment, tied it to a nearby owl. Oh, surely, they were going to laugh at this one.

Sending Letters Back Home
Finally. It had been a long time since her parents had written back to her reply, well, owls really. She remembered sending two letters to them in two days. Now, after almost a week, she had gotten their replies.

Entering the room, she immediately got chucked by a cloud of feathers. Ufff.... What the hell had happened there? Had the owls been shaved? She chuckled at the thought and made her way towards the table where she took out her paper, quill and ink bottle. What was missing now? Oh shit, their letters..... Lily hit herself lightly on the side of her head.

She opened the letter and began reading:
Dear Lily,

We had to sit down while reading your letter — not because we were shocked, but because we were laughing far too hard to stay upright. Trust you to turn a simple charm into a full-scale tap-dancing catastrophe. Only you could manage accidental chaos and new friendships in the same afternoon.

Your “bestie” sounds like exactly the kind of person who keeps your days lively… and your professors slightly nervous. We’re glad you’ve found someone who shares your spark (just try to keep the sparks away from unsuspecting passers-by next time!).

It’s good that you apologized and even offered treats. That shows responsibility — buried under the prankster instincts, but still there! And we are relieved no serious harm was done, except maybe to everyone’s dignity.

Now, finish your homework, stay warm, and try not to enchant any more innocent students into doing a jig… at least not without warning them first.

Also, no. We still miss you a lot, more than you can even imagine!

With love,
Mother and Father
By the end of the letter, there were tears in Lily's eyes, not because of sadness or even happiness, but because of laughing too hard. She didn't know that there was an edge of laughter in her parents too. But then, she had a good sense of humor and that had to be from their genes. She then began writing, fast enough that she thought for a moment that the paper was gonna tear up.
Dear Mother and Father,

I’m honestly relieved you found the whole situation funny, because I nearly melted straight into the floor from embarrassment. I had honestly thought that you might have sent me a howler because of it...

And yes, I know… only I could accidentally create a flash mob in the corridor. At least the boys were surprisingly good sports about it. One of them, Leo, even tried to bow dramatically while tap-dancing — which, I must admit, was iconic.

Maddy is definitely keeping things lively here. Professors nervous? Oh, absolutely. If eye-twitching counted as a magical reaction, we’d have set a new Hogwarts record.

I’m glad you think we handled it well. We really did want to make up for the chaos, and the treats definitely helped. (Sugar solves more problems than magic.)

Anyway, I’ll get back to homework before it grows fangs and attacks me for ignoring it. Sending all my love — and a big hug for Isabella.

And also, I know that. I was just kidding. Sheesh. Can't a kid kid now?
Yours,
Lily
She tied the letter to Calliope (her parents loved her!), and sent it to its way to her parents.
