Meave Fenhollow was cozied up in a quiet corner of the library, surrounded by a little mountain of books that she didn’t really get. One of them was called The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection., lay open in front of her, its pages lined with complicated spells and eerie pictures The words, Death Eaters appeared again and again, and each time she read them, making her stomach queasy and tight with fear and worry. What were they? Who were they? She asked herself, feeling a bit nervous about not knowing.
Growing up as a Muggle-born, diving into this magical world felt like decoding a completely different language—something entirely different from normal English. She had never seeen or even dreamt of a world where people had to make time to study defense just to protect themselves from curses. To, Meave, it felt like living in a movie, or a different world. She pinched herself, making sure this was real Making sure the train ride was real.
Still, curiosity kept her turning pages. She traced her finger along a paragraph about shield charms, trying to imagine what casting one might even feel like and how or what it would look like.
Meave sighed softly, glancing around at the other students who seemed to belong here so..... so casually. How were they not confused about this stuff?

Yep, this was real, alright. But still back in her hometown, danger, if any was fairly samll things: back home, danger meant having to look both ways before crossing a busy street, or facing the consequences of a bad report card when she got home, or the familiar annoyance of missing the bus. It was nothing compared to the terrifying idea of dark wizards lurking in the shadows or curses that could cause real harm and chaos in one’s life. This whole new concept of danger was completely foreign to her. end lives.ow!

Zephyr thought farm work was hard already, you have to deal with early mornings, long days, even heavy lifting but being at Hogwarts was a different kind of challenge. Magic very far from stacking hay bales or fixing a fence, it needed focus, timing, and a bit of something he couldn’t explain. Half the time he was waving his wand wrong, or saying the words just an incorrectly. He not cream of the crop, but he’s not stupid either and he knew that. But this new world worked by rules that didn’t exist back home. Sometimes he would just pretend to follow along, but the truth was, he felt like someone who joined a play halfway through and didn’t know his lines.
Charms class was the worst so far. His feather refused to float, no matter how many times he said Wingardium Leviosa. When his professor praised another student’s perfect form, he smiled politely but felt his ears heat up. Still, he didn’t give up and stayed behind after class and try again until he got it right. When it finally rose an inch off the table one afternoon, he nearly whooped out loud. Herbology was easier. Plants don’t normally care how you say anything or hold your wand. They just needed care, sunlight, and patience. His professor praised his steady hands once, saying he had a farmer’s touch and that praise made his day. Most nights, he was studying late and reading through notes. His mum always said effort could make up for what you don’t know and that thought kept him going.
That day, Zephyr decided to find a quiet place to study. The Hufflepuff common room was too noisy now with laughter and chatter, and he couldn’t think straight when people were joking around so he headed toward the library. It was quieter there, he had never seen so many books in one place. The homework he’s working on brought him uneasiness. He didn’t like thinking about people who used magic to hurt others. Magic was too big to take for granted. He finally found a quiet corner but he’s not alone, there was someone sitting there, a girl with a pile of books surrounding. She looked deep in thought while reading. He almost hesitate, as he didn’t want to disturb her but remembered library is meant to be shared. She looked like she belonged there, unlike him, who still felt a bit like an imposter every time he opened a spellbook. Looking at her, he realized she looked familiar. Were they classmates in one of his subjects? The title of the book caught his eye, Defensive Strategies Against Dark Wizards. Ah no wonder… he took a seat beside her occupied table. He didn’t know her name yet, but it was obvious she was trying to understand things.

Áine[ just grinned reading her books on the dark wizards. As always she was disappointed by the lack of information on her favourite- if you could have a favourite- dark wizard Ekrizdis a very niche and forgotten dark wizard but by far the most horrifying Geez thanks Ministry of Magic she grumbled to herself/i]
"heya need help? Why do you look so confused" she says in bemusement kind of amused at their confusion and lack of skill.
"So wheres your village at? We live in a secluded valley. Anyways what do you need help with I grew up around dark magic and DADA magic. So what spells you need to learn about?
Then it hit her....they're half bloods or as her father called them mud-bloods that would explain their confusion. Her village never let anything less than pure bloods in a rule dating back to the old days for protection. She then decided to let them prove themselves
You fail to impress me then i'll see my father was right as usual she thinks to herself watching them
She set her book down looking at them smirking as she got out her books on DADA studies some of which her father's
"so you're not familiar with wizarding society are you? What are you muggleborn or half blooded? Nothing wrong with it I think..."

Another girl came by. It was unexpected that he was not sure how to react. She looked intense just by regarding her. Obviously confident and a little intimidating, it tells you she could handle magic the way he handled a pitchfork but faster and deadlier. “Uh… hi. I’m not really confused, this is just all new to me.” He gestured at the stack of books. “The place where I grew up, we don’t have magic. What we have are farms and animals but not spells or magic. So, this is all a lot to take in.”
He was surprised when she asked about his village. “We live in Swansea. My family has a small farm there. Really quiet, lots of hills and fields. Not much in the way of wizarding stuff.” He smiled to look friendly even though the way she questioned them feels like she’s insulting their very existence, “I’ve never had to think about magic before.” Her next question made him pause. "I’m… a half-blood. Mom's a muggle, dad's a pureblood.” He glanced at her books on dark magic "I don’t know everything. I’m not amazing at this yet but I’ll practice. I may not know wizard society well, or be what some people expect, I’m not going to give up. I’ll keep learning. That’s what my mum always says, effort counts.” Is it safe to assume the girl is a pureblood and she was not used to people who do not understand magic or not good with it?

she nods. "don't worry i'm new too. What's like not having magic at home? And what are muggles like? I hear they can fly in uhh aero..planes? What is an aeroplane anyway? And something called phones and the internet...? Oh right sorry I tend to lose focus unless its on Ekrizdis. He's the guy who created Azkaban and possibly the dementors. anyways Your valley sounds a lot like ours". She grins before continuing "so what do you need help with anyways?" She watched him. his farm life tracks with him being in hufflepuff she found she could appreciate the fact he really did belong in his house even if he didn't feel it. "If you want I could tutor you I got all O's so far. Speaking of which, what's it like at a muggle school?" She pulls some books off the shelf trying to find basic materials she wasn’t sure how well he could do magic her Father said magic potency depends on the blood while her mother said it was just luck and skill nothing to do with bloodlines that was one of the few things her family was divided over her father came from pureblood supermists (not death eaters but definitely has sympathies that way while her mother was accepting of everyone a….typical hufflepuff indeed. “You know my mom was in hufflepuff. That house seems to have the friendliest people yet also the softest. My father was in Slytherin"

Zephyr was overwhelmed by how fast the girl talked and jumped between topics. He scratched the back of his neck, trying to think how to explain without sounding dumb. "Uh… well, not having magic at home is normal. Everything is done by hand. If something breaks, you fix it yourself. We cook, clean, and do chores without spells. There’s no magic to make it faster or easier. I must admit, it's tiring sometimes, but it’s part of life too." He grew up like that so for him it's natural to do those things regardless of the circumstances. "Muggles… that’s people without magic, they’re normal people. They also go to school, work, play, live." He was a little awkward that she might think he was weird. "Aeroplanes? Oh! Those are big flying machines with engines. You can sit in them and travel far. I’ve never been on one yet." He shrugged. "Phones are tiny devices for talking to people that are in completely different locations. And the internet, um, I'll compare it to a giant library that connects everyone. I don’t use it much." It might be confusing to the girl, he did't expect her to relate to it.
She asked what he needed help with, and he looked down at his books. "Mostly about the Dark Arts, Dark Creatures and threats. Basic Spell casting too." He looked at her as she pulled books off the shelf. "Muggle school is almost the same as what we're doing here, except the activities don't involve magic. Other than that, it’s normal school stuff." He noticed her mood lightened up when she talked about her mom being Hufflepuff. "Hufflepuff, everyone’s really nice there. And Slytherin, I don’t know much about them, but it looks like you get along with both worlds."

Áine looked at him stunned before she raised an eyebrow so no house elf then?" She found herself intrigued. "That makes sense. Muggle school sounds really boring to be honest. What's a phone look like? is it like a scroll? And that sounds cool about the internet but it sounds so....invasive I know I'd rather not send an owl for everyone to see". She grinned as she picked out the books he'd need before picking one out on Ekrizdis for herself. "Father says I'm more Slytherin than hufflepuff and for good reason. No offense but Hufflepuff's are kinda soft, gentle or as my dad says weak. My mom is an exception to that he loves her alot. My dad found it hard to adjust after he transferred from Durmstrang that's why he's so good with dark magic". She finishes picking out the books and even throwing in some more advanced ones "I got the books you'll need speaking of which what are your parents good at? Does your dad use magic at home? Mine does. A lot. I wish Muggles weren't so nosey they keep straying too far near our valley my dad had to stun something he called an influencer and obliviate her memory and ruined something she called her tick tock...? What's a tick tock that's a noise not a thing muggles are really weird. My dad told me about that Muggles are strange she thinks to herself she also wondered how metal can fly. it can't do that she wondered if he was messing with her.

Zephyr looked at the girl blankly for a beat when she asked about house elf. Right, some wizarding families had those. He was still not accustomed to the idea. “No, uh..no house elf.” He shook his head. “Just me, my parents, my siblings, and a lot of chores.” Coupled with a smile so it didn’t sound awkward. She mentioned muggle school sounded boring, he shrugged as if not affected by the comment because to be honest, she wasn’t wrong. "It’s not as exciting as classes here, I agree.” he admitted. “But it’s normal. You learn math, reading, science stuff like that. Science is interesting for me.”
She asked further about phones and he had to stop and think so he didn’t confuse her more. “A phone is smaller than a book.” He held his hands up to estimate the size. “It’s like a little flat rectangle with a glass screen. You tap it to call people or send messages.” Even he knew that sounded weird. The girl called the internet invasive, he shrugged but nodded nonetheless. “Well....yeah...sometimes it is. A lot of people put too much of their life on it.” He didn’t want to get into how wild it could get, no point scaring her. For someone who came from a pureblood family, she sure do know a lot about muggles. He wonder how that happened...and why?
When Hufflepuffs was called out for soft, He was sure how to take that. It didn’t make him angry, but it stung slightly. Weak? He didn’t think so. He's a Hufflepuff and he personally didn't think he's weak. He kept his voice calm as he spoke. “We’re not weak, we just don’t pick fights. Doesn’t mean we can’t handle things. We just know how to choose our battle." He added a friendly shrug. “But I get what you mean, some people think we’re too nice, and I don't think that's a weakness at all.”
She mentioned that her dad was skilled with dark magic, which made him uneasy. He didn’t know how to respond to that without sounding rude, so he decided to keep it neutral. “Durmstrang, I heard they teach stronger magic there, very different from Hogwarts.” From what he heard, they don't hold back from teaching dark magic. Although there's an advantage to that, there are also disadvantages to having knowledge that you can just do anything you want without regard to life and safety in general.
“From what I know so far, my dad’s good with practical magic and memory charms. But he doesn't use it at home even when he needs to. We do most things the Muggle way. He kept his old life from us until I received my letter that is.” Her story about the influencer nearly made him choke trying not to laugh. “An… influencer wandered into your valley? I see.., they film everything. TikTok is… like a little video-sharing platform. You'll see short videos about dancing, jokes, and random stuff. Maybe she was probably trying to record something.” He rubbed his forehead, trying not to grin, he could absolutely picture some loud teenage girl with a ring light walking into a magical valley by accident.
“Muggles aren’t bad.” he added gently. “Just curious. Sometimes too curious.” He noticed she looked doubtful about aeroplanes earlier, so he cleared that up too. “And about the airplanes, they're real. Engines push the air in a way that lifts the plane. It’s science, not magic.” He was supposed to help her gather more books but she was fast. "…Thanks for grabbing all this. I really appreciate the help.”
