Premise: Unofficial Quidditch game!
Date: 10 December 2025 (let me know if anyone needs this changed)
Time: 10:00
Weather: Damp, cold, drizzly.
Moderator: Livia Machavariani (yours truly)
After hearing rumours of previous happenings of what sounded to be bootleg Quidditch, Livia could not not be intrigued. She had, of course, had experience with the official games, having captained for Slytherin and dutifully observed their game against Ravenclaw; nonetheless, that did not equate to refereeing, and she had to admit, she wondered what the difference was between the 'bootleg' games and the 'real' ones. More cheating? Maleficence? Nothing she could reap from the text of a book would inform her of the truth, so she intended to perform some seeking herself.

After acquiring enough players to make two teams, she pored through a Quidditch rulebook just to ensure she could call fouls when necessary. While Livia fully supported the use of fouls for strategic purposes, she also did not intend to let anyone get away with anything easily this game. She would keep her emerald green eyes peeled for any semblance of cheating – if they wanted to misbehave, they would very well have to do well in the art of contrivance.

As students began to enter the training pitch, Livia would beckon them closer to her. She would introduce herself to those she didn't yet know very well, hoping to at least glean their names, and she would ask them to stay near her until more people arrived. That way, she wouldn't have to raise her voice in giving a quick introduction to the game.

Once it appeared as if everyone had arrived, Livia did her best to meet the eyes of everyone and offer a small smile. 'Right. This would be a skirmish if I weren't planning on running it quite similarly to a proper Quidditch match. I do anticipate that everyone here already understands the rules and how the game works, but if not, here are a few pointers: Seekers are searching for the golden snitch, which will earn their team 150 points and end the game; Beaters are looking to knock students off their brooms – violent, I know – to secure an advantage for their team; Chasers are aiming to score points with the Quaffle to prevent an easy victory; Keepers are able to block the goals and assist with scoring.'

She surveyed the students, looking for any aspect of confusion in their expressions. 'I do not care if this is a clean game or not. The point is to enjoy yourselves. Afterwards, all who are still conscious can head to the Great Hall for a most enjoyable lunch.' She folded her hands in front of her. 'Please do inform me should you have any questions or concerns, and I will do my best to accommodate you. However, if you feel you are ready, get in your positions and get ready to take off.'

The rain fell into the depths of the Quidditch pitch like confetti, christening yet another unofficial Quidditch match for Maisie. The last time despite hardly knowing anyone, she'd done fairly well—even if the blood that rushed to her head as she hung there with the onset of a bludger was something that had proven very difficult to forget. And this time, she was grateful to have some familiar faces on her side from the unofficial broomrace. Cecelia and Lucille seemed to have been placed on the other side, which was unfortunate, but she had Percy in exchange. She'd offer him a wave and smile before moving over to her team.

Among them, she nodded in acknowledgement of Avery, who was arguably the most experienced of this bunch. "Ready to fly today?" she asked the group as she moved over by Rosaline and Althea, who had proven themselves to be strong teammates in broomracing. Maisie was excited to work with them both again, and hoped that bond of teamwork would carry over into this new event. Finally, before mounting, she walked over to Percy, who had taken a rough tumble in his last unofficial Quidditch match. "It's a new game," she tried to reassure him, "Just have fun. And try not to look down." She didn't want him to get spooked by what could happen and what could repeat. It was better to look straight ahead.

Then, Maisie would head over to listen to Livia, who presumably would go over any rules. Maisie knew little about the second year, other than that as duellist and Quidditch captain she was clearly muli-factedly amazing at sports—unlike her. But maybe she just needed practice. So, she gripped the handle of her broom, gave her team one last wave, and kicked off from the ground towards the hoops.

Althea was not someone who looked a gift horse in the mouth, especially as a person who rarely received gifts from others outside of her family. However, she was starting to question whether the world was truly blessing her or condemning her to situations of unpredictable wilderness, because once again, standing in the Quidditch Training Pitch, Althea Valeden held a borrowed broom in her hand and stood in preparation for yet another unexpected, but technically invaluable, opportunity that had arisen for her to take. Whether it be fortune or a curse, the Hufflepuff had found herself in yet another precarious situation after finding her resolve softened by juniors she had grown quietly fond of after the Autumn Ball. She, after much hesitation, gave in and was here to play Quidditch with many younger players. Not only that, she was going to play the role of a seeker – her father's old Quidditch role during his time at Hogwarts all those years ago. She knew the importance of the role, a role whose actions could determine a team's chances of victory. Althea might vomit blood from the pressure of it all.

As she walked over to Livia Machavariani, who had begun giving a pre-match speech, she recalled that Livia was currently a first-year student who had organised this whole match, and internally admired the enthusiasm and level of skill of her junior students. Nowadays, she often felt as if she were their junior in ability, skill, and accomplishments.

As Livia offered ominous lines about lunch rights exclusive to those still standing at the end, Althea winced and rubbed her arms that were bundled with her outdoor activity robes, feeling the cold dampness of the drizzling rain sinking into the fabric in an unpleasant limbo of stiff, yet acceptably dry fabric. It was a terrible day to be out in the training pitch, where the dirt had turned into squishy mud that would surely cling to her and trail into her common room without a tedious cleaning. She should have stayed firm and rejected this opportunity after her chaotic, informal broom-racing match. It was not even as if she had nothing to do; she had pre-reading to do!

Speaking of her race, Althea noticed a few of her previous racing teammates who were once again on her team for this match. Maisie attempted to reassure the team, paying additional attention to a Slytherin first-year student named Percival. Percival had been on the opposite team for their informal race, and she did not quite recall if he overcame his anxiety. “It’s all in good fun,” Althea repeated Maisie’s reassurances, more for her own nerves than she’d like to admit, “Let’s just do our best, and try to stay conscious for our lunch.” The Hufflepuff gripped her broom with uncertainty. True confidence does not matter; she will have to do this whether she has that in her or not. Mounting her broom, Althea grabbed hold of the instinctive pull of flight and kicked off into the air, stabilizing herself with a tight grip and slipping into position in the air.

Sophie was rather in the mood of excitement. Her first ever quidditch game! With other people! This was going to be really fun! Of course, she was still a second string keeper, but that didn't change this being fun! She really had to thank Livia Machavariani for this opportunity to play! And watch a match and cheer or boo people (cuz that's what you do at any game, right?"
As she walked down into the pitch area, she sat on the side. Second string was not nearly as fun as flying as a main player, but it was really fun nonetheless. She watched two girls from her team, Athlea and Maisie walk onto the pitch with nice brooms in hand. Maisie had a silver arrow which was a great broom and Athlea had a Twigger 90 which was good, at least better than the school broom she held in hand, with twigs bent around here and there and it wasn't fast. Her captain Avery hadn't come, not yet, and Sophie occupied herself by watching Athlea and Maisie mount their brooms and take off. She was going to enjoy this! If not playing , then at least watching! She couldn't wait for the match to officially start!

A cold wrapped around Amelia, as the greying clouds above her looked down as if mocking the shivering child. While Amelia would have liked to have blamed her shaking frame entirely on the weather, that was, most unfortunately not the case. The nerves that been itching at her all morning had finally decided to attack. She had never finished a quidditch game before, and while she had competed in sport here at Hogwarts, she had absolutely no experience riding on a broom.

Her team, seemed to be getting ready, so she bent down in a gesture of tying her shoes, to look the slightest bit busy. She was a chaser. One of three. Surely that meant that she wasn’t of high importance. But deep down, Amelia knew everything she would do would impact the game. With no knowledge of how a quidditch game worked, she followed the others to listen to their moderator. The words ‘still conscious’ popped out to the small girl, and she gulped involuntarily.

Finally, it seemed the moment to mount her stead. Turning to her not-so-trusted school broom, she prepared for the game to come with some deep hopeful breathes. It was going to be fine. She would do perfectly fine. Wonderfully even…

Another day another match. Even if it was unofficial. Avery was ecstatic. It was rare that she was able to practice her skills in unofficial matches of Quidditch, so of course she jumped at the chance when she saw the signups. Though she wasn’t Seeker today. Today she was the captain of her team again and she was a beater. A position she had only played one other time when Seeker didn’t exist. That was the same match she had captained for the first time.

She mounted her broom after waving to her team that had already arrived. “Alright guys. Big game today. I know this is unofficial, but we can still treat this like a real game. Let’s dominate the sky, my Pegasi!” Avery spoke to her team. Raising her fist in the air before she kicked off into the sky.

Avery held her beater bat firmly in her hand. Ready for the moment she was to use it. She had very little familiarity with the bat yet it felt at home in her hand. Like it was meant to be there. Though Avery could never be a beater. She was a Seeker. A girl who chased the snitch until it was firmly in her grip. That was her position, but she had to branch out. The other positions weren’t as familiar to her, but they were just as crucial.

Pearls of water poured down the skies shadowed by ash-coloured clouds, light droplets creating a halo around golden hair, seastorm eyes closing as a porcelain head tilted upward, welcoming the faint sensation like deliverance. Delicate fingers were wrapped around the wooden handle of a broom, nails scratching lightly at the polished surface, only sign of the nervousness inhabiting the moonchild. Though a constraint to herself and to the lovely team awaiting her, the rain was nonetheless appeasing her frenzied mind, the repeated rhythm of beads crashing to the ground soothing her erratic nerves, thoughts drawn to follow the hypnotic chant it created. Come on baby, don't you hurt me anymore,, I'm not the same as who I was before— humming, the raven took a firmer hold of her broom, and made her way down the rocky path bordered with trees.

It had been a year since she had been restlessly training to join her house team, and today was a great opportunity to put her abilities in trial. The honey haired girl had obtained the post of seeker, precisely the one she had been aiming, and thus was more than determined to give the very best of herself into this unofficial match. Her role was crucial, as whether or not her hand would clasp around the fleeting golden ball would greatly influence the outcome of the game, and yet she was confident in her capacities. The raven was agile, precise, and her thoughts flew faster than the wind agitating branches above her, meddling with golden strands and pushing her with a steady force towards the field below.

Upon stepping foot onto the dampened dirt faded by the passage of time, she blinked navy eyes towards the crumbling stone wall circling the pitch, their smooth surface stained, cracks running along their facade. Remnants of moss, deceased vegetal now bloodied shades of brown, clung into the interstices, and frozen ivy covered a large portion of the muraille. The terrain smelled of forests after a rainpour, of fresh mud and wood polish ; the blonde took an breath, letting every detail reach her senses, grounding herself.

A bubbly chatter rose from the circle of soon-to-be players gathered around their lovely organiser — Livia, a peculiar being she had met during a sleepless stroll, under the watchful gaze of the moon. The other souls her own was acquainted with were Lucille, chirping bird frighten by the impending doom of the expectation she weighted ; Graci, with whom she had organised the autumn ball ; Maisie, adorable girl who had knitted her a thoughtful present ; and Aodhan, misunderstood genius hiding under the guise of a deafening extrovert. Addressing a nod, as well as a shy smile to every one of those, as well as greeting those she had not met, the moonchild felt the iron claws of anxiety digging into her stomach, cutting her breath short.

Nothing slipped past her constricted chest, though, and she kept a composed, serene face. Midnight blue eyes flickered towards the referee giving instructions, and soon she mounted her silver arrow, kicking the ground and rising above the earth. Savoring the delectable rush of wind onto her face, the moonchild took a discreet loop while rising to the designated position, the voice of a shouting brunette muffled by her own bliss. Upon reaching her spot, she sucked in a breath, biting one lip to prevent the eager smile from blooming on her face, instead sharpening her senses, awaiting for the whistle blow signalling the Baining of the oh-so awaited match.

May the best one win.

morning

It felt backwards that Quidditch was the last wizarding sport Vera would ever try, considering it was the wizarding sport of all time. She was a duellist, then she did a race, and now she was here. Broom racing tended to be the last sport people tried, mostly due to its recency, yet it was Vera's second. But in Vera's defense, Quidditch looked like hell on earth. How did anybody actually like this sport? Especially peers in her year. When she visited the Quidditch pitch in preparation for the game, she could only stare in blank shock. They were about to drop several hundred feet to the ground if they so much as lose their grip on their broom, and any of them could be the target of a flying metal ball hurling towards you at the speed of light. People actually liked this?

Well, here they were, on the Quidditch pitch on a Wednesday morning. So, people definitely liked it.

When Vera signed up, she wasn't exactly sure which position to take. Seeker, Chaser, Beater, Keeper? They were all just words to her. Beater was... probably not her thing. Seeker? Maybe, but it seemed very popular, so she turned to the others. Chaser was the next popular position, but that was probably helped by the fact they needed more players than any other position. So, Keeper it was. There was the option to be a benched player, which Vera quickly wrote her name down for. That would give her ample time to prepare and watch how the position was done.

Vera put on her thickest coat underneath her winter robe. With two weeks to go until Christmas (and Christmas break), the weather was absolutely horrible. But it seemed even the weather wouldn't stop anyone from playing a game.

She looked around at her teammates. Aodhan and Zephyr were part of the race she'd also participated in a while back, same for Lucille and Cecilia, though they'd been in the opposite team then. The rest were new faces. On the opposite team this time was Percival and Violence. Althea, Avery, Maisie, and Rosaline were somehow always in the same team. Amelia, Vera recognized, was her teammate against Gryffindor back in October. Then, there was Leo, her fellow Metamorphmagus. It was nice to see familiar faces, regardless of the teams.

Once instructions went out and everyone started taking their places, Vera turned to her team and said, "Good luck everyone!"

She headed for the benches, brushing off the light layer of snow and then sitting down.

Quite evidently, Graci had never once participated in a quidditch match. Not that she was opposed to doing so, she simply... didn't. Until now, that is, with her curiosity was piqued and an opportunity in her face. There had been talk of some previous unofficial games, both broom racing and quidditch, but now, it seemed, was the time she would find out what all the hype was.

Danger, she had heard, was inescapable, but after broom racing nothing seemed quite so bad, at least the pitch itself wasn't trying to attack her. Though, being appointedf as one of the beaters for her team, she would have much more troubling things to worry about. Yay, now I might be bludgered to death instead of some other gruesome way, she thought with a wry shake of her head, looking around at the other team.

She seems familiar... the face she would recognize most places, though not for any reason other than the fact she was still miffed about that day in the library. No names were exchanged between the two, but Graci could hold a grudge if she tried hard enough. (@Amelia Lerelle)

As for her own team... well, Graci didn't particularly know any of them too well. Some familiar faces, sure, one or two from Gryffindor, and Elena was more so a familiar face, but most prefects were if you socialized enough. And see had hosted that one bookclub meeting.... Well, this'll be fun.

She shivered, the cold air getting to her despite the cheery attitude and determination for it to be a wonderful day. Then again, most things easily got past those metaphorical defenses. Listening to Livia's {Graci heard the name from some of the teams' whispers} schpeil required a great deal of effort, as Graci's mind trailed off after the violence part. She had no qualms with being violent, she only hoped no one got hurt too bad. Just enough for us to win this skirmish, I suppose.

Tatiana showed up it the pitch in her usual slow, rhythmic pace, the damp drizzle settling in her hair until it clung against her pale checks. The cold air wasn't much of annoyance to her, if anything, it somehow made her feel clearer. She held her broom lightly at her side, her fingers relaxing against her lender broom's handle.

Being on the wait-list wasn't exactly glamorous, sure, but Tatiana never exactly cared for glamour, did she? Quiet work suited her, precision suited her, and being a Keeper, well, it just made sense—it was calm, controlled, and a rational defense, a perfect match.

She stepped closer as Livia called the two teams in, watching the former Slytherin captain with a soft, unreadable expression. She had always admired people who commanded space by simply existing in it, and Livia had that presence. She was sharp, alert, and rule-literate—good referee material.

As Livia listed the roles, Tatiana's gaze flicked up slightly at the mention of keepers. She didn't need an explanation, she already knew where she belonged. Once the speech had ended, Tatiana pushed a damp lock of hair behind her ear and said quietly, “No concerns.”

Crossing the pitch, she mounted her borrowed broom with a grace that looked delicate but was far from fragile. Her broom rose into the air, drifting backwards slightly until she hovered neatly before the center hoop. The drizzle poured droplets against her warm, pale skin, and made her dark lashes collect the stray water, but she didn't waver.

Her soft, brown eyes were fixed on the field in front of her. They were focused, analytical, and composed—waiting, ready. Her grip tightened slightly around the broom handle, “Ready when you are,” she murmured.
