Meeting the family. Pv sage Miller Closed

Kayden sat down with a sigh of relief. He had gotten used to Sages happy tears by now, but they still made him smile. A thought crossed his mind however. One that worried him. He would try his best to make a good impression on her family, but he knew that they didn't appreciate wizards and witches. Her Dad sounded like a nice guy, but he was scared of her mother. Extremely scared. He didn't want to voice his concern, so he thought it would be better to drop it. People were out and about now, and as they were sitting on a bench on the sidewalk of a busy street, Kayden was surprised they didn't attract more attention.

One lady stopped to ask them if they were lost, to which Kayden hastily replied that they were just waiting for someone. He pulled up his suitcase, and felt the morning light hit his skin. It felt quite nice after the cold night, and it was a welcome feeling. Kayden realized that they both must look a mess. They were carrying large bulky suitcases, and both had red eyes from crying and allergies. They were both developing a cold, and Kayden didn't really want his ability to take care of people questioned by Sages parents. He was excited however, that they were going somewhere.

He grabbed Sages hand and smiled. "What do you think they'll say when they see me? I must be a sight for sore eyes."

"My father loves me, he's never stood up for me to my mother before. He's the boss, and she doesn't have a choice but to either listen or leave. I'm just excited I'll get to see Delilah. I'm sure papa will love you. Mum's a different story" she looked away. Within the next hour or two, her dad pulled up in a car and got out. He went over and hugged her tightly "I'm so sorry you're mother spoke to you the way she did before you left for school. I couldn't sleep at night for how angry I was with her. You may be different but you're still my little girl" he hugged her tightly before letting go.

"It's alright papa, I forgive both of you. This is my boyfriend Kayden, his Nana got sick and doctors said we shouldn't stick around, so we had to figure out where else to stay. I was scared mama wouldn't let me and Kayden stay there, not after what happened."

"That doesn't matter now, both of you can call my house your home" he smiled and stuck his hand out for Kayden to shake. "Pleasure to meet you lad, name's John, but you may call me whatever you'd like" he nodded when he shook his hand and then put their stuff in the car.

Sage just couldn't believe that her father truly loved her, she didn't expect it at all. She looked at Kayden and nodded, getting into the car and waiting for him.

Kayden tried to keep on a brave face as he stepped into the car and sat next to Sage, but inwardly, he was freaking out. For multiple reasons. Number one, that man had a hella strong handshake, and Kayden felt as if the bones in his hands were being crushed. Number two, there seemed to be a ot of tension in the family over her mother. The car ride was silent mostly, except for the sound of other cars whipping past. It was a nice sedan, with a slight tear in the front seat, but other than that, it was in prime condition.

Kayden decided to say something and end the silence. "Extremely sorry for the trouble Mr. John. There were some...issues at my grandmothers house, and we would be out alone in the woods if it wasn't for you." Her father seemed like a genuinely nice guy, but Kayden knew the real trouble began when they get to her house. Him and Sage hadn't talked much about the subject, as it appeared she was real touchy on the subject. He intertwined his fingers with Sages, happy to be on a car wth heat.

"It's quite alright, I understand that things happen" John said as he drove them home.

Sage hummed to some of the music as she looked out her window and held Kayden's hand. She would probably never be able to face the fact that Nana was ready dead, she had somehow convinced herself that Nana was only sick and told them to leave so they didn't get really sick. She could never bring herself to face the actual reality and fate of Nana. It hurt that she had to lie to herself but for the time being, it was working.

"How's mum?" Sage asked.

"She's alright, been busy taking care of Delilah. She's having another child too" he said and looked at her.

"Really? Another sibling?" Sage exclaimed and looked at him before squealing excitedly and going to him and hugging him from behind. "That makes me happy to hear Papa, I'm glad you guys are happy." She sat back down and looked at Kayden.

"So how'd you two meet? You both dating or something?"

"We met at school, and yes we are." She responded.

"Well he can either sleep in your room or the living room couch, the spare room had to be turned into a baby room. Even though your mother is still a bit far from giving birth, it gave her something to do since she doesn't work again" John smiled softly.

Sage smiled softly too and looked at Kayden, waiting for his answer.

Kayden didn't really know ho to answer. Was this a test? To see if he would willingly sleep in the same room? He thought this seemed like a plausible option, as dads were usually very protective over their daughters. He thought for a moment, not wanting to screw this up. He wanted to be in the same room as Sage, but is that was her father wanted? Again, this could be some form of a test. He shifted in his seat, slightly uncomfortable. He didn't think Mr. John would outright try to fool him like this, but you never know.

Finally coming up with a decent answer, he looked over to Sage, "Well, whatever your comfortable with Sage. And you too sir." He knew this probably seemed like a lame answer, but it was all he could think of.

He wondered what it was like to have siblings. He had been the first child, and considering his mother died at birth, the only child. He had been told by many sources that siblings were a nuisance, and that he should be glad he didn't have any. To which he almost always replied, you never know how much you love something until it's gone.

"I'm okay with him sleeping in my room Papa, as long as you are." Sage smiled at Kayden.

"I trust you darling, if that is what you wish then so be it" He said with a nervous grunt.
It seemed that the father and daughter weren't very excited to go home to the hormonal mother, when she was already crabby and bossy enough. "I remember when mama was pregnant with Delilah, she loved pizza and had it almost every night. Oh Kayden, she's known to sleep walk sometimes too but she's harmless so if you wake up and see her, don't say anything and just go back to sleep, ok?" Sage seemed to be feeling better, but she still had her cold, which made itself known when she sneezed four times in a row.

"Are you sick darling girl? That's alright, there's some medicine at home" John said as they drove for the next hour or two.

"The medicine is nasty" Sage giggled as she whispered into Kayden's ear before pulling away. She seemed to smile more, as her mind was now taken off of the horror she'd seen earlier. She would never be able to tell her parents the truth of what happened to Nana.

Kayden smiled. Grandma used to make him drink this vile liquid, and she said it would help get rid of his cold. It always did, but Kayden often pretended it didn't, just so he could try to prove t her that it didn't work, so he wouldn't have to drink it again. His smile turned into a frown however, as his mind flashed back to the gruesome murder scene. Sage said something about sleepwalking, which brought him back to reality. "Oh, that's fine. I'll make sure not to disturb her." They had been driving for a good time, and Kayden wondered when they would be getting to her house.

It was arond 11:00 A.M now, and people were out and about in the streets. They passed a man walking his bulldog, to which Kayden smiled and waved. The man waved back, and the dog looked inquisitively at him, not quite understanding the gesture. "So, um. What do you do for a living Mr. John?" Sage and him had never really talked about their parents much, let alone their jobs. He thighs it would be nice to get to know them better, as if things got serious between him and Sage, he would want to be in good company.

"I own a business based off of lawyer's. It's to help people with legal advice and not get ripped off by lawyers. It's gotten bigger in the past few years. And just call me John." He said "we are almost there."

Sage looked around nervously as she felt the butterflies in her stomach get worse as they got closer and closer to the house. They were in the right town now and she didn't know how she felt about being there. All she knew is that she was excited to see Delilah, and her mother even if she wasn't wanted by her mother.

They pulled up in the driveway of a nice house, being the owner of a big business had its perks. John got out and grabbed their stuff and led the two inside. They were greeted by a big open area with stairs in the center that led up, and a big chandelier in the middle of the room on the ceiling.

"Sagey!" Sage heard her name be called and her face instantly lit up.

She turned around and opened her arms, and after a few seconds, wrapped her arms around a little girl as she laughed softly. She hugged her tightly, trying so hard not to cry because she missed Delilah so much. "Hello Delly" she smiled, calling her by the nickname she gave her.

Delilah giggled before looking at Kayden. "Who's that?" She pointed at him.

"My boyfriend from school" Sage smirked.

"Eww, boys have cooties" Delilah giggled and ran off to go play.

Sage looked around again and looked into the living room with was on the left by the staircase. Her mother walked out and she was beginning to have a bit of a baby bump. "Sage" was all she said.

"Mother" was all Sage responded with. "This is Kayden" she introduced him.

Sage's mother smiled at Kayden softly which disappeared after a few seconds and then she started walking up the stairs, holding her stomach as she struggled a bit.

Sage held Kayden's hand as she smiled softly "welcome to my home. It's gonna be very chaotic" she smiled and started walking up the stairs once her mother had gone to her room. Sage took a right at the top of the stairs and walked down the hall and opened her own big room. It was purple and teal, very cozy and had a warm feeling to it. Posters of some bands and pictures of all of her family hung on the walls. The bed was a double size, big enough for her and Kayden if they decided to share or not. But she thought it would be best to have him sleep on the floor, considering since they were still young.

The sound of a little girl laughing filled the upper floor as she played with her father. Sage didn't want to interrupt them so she sighed and unpacked some of her stuff and then sat down on the bed. Sage's mother knocked on the door and came in with two spoons and a bottle of medicine. She filled the spoons and handed it to them. Sage drank hers and made a face. When Kayden had drank his (if he did) she would nod, grab the spoons and walk out.

Sage made a little bed for Kayden on the floor, with a pillow, a comforter to lay on and another blanket. Then she laid in bed and got under the covers and yawned. She wanted to attempt to get some sleep and she hoped Kayden would too. She knew they were safe there.

Kayden was happy to be here, and happy to be able to potentially get some sleep, but he knew that resting meant that the nightmares would be back. He had the sour taste of medicine in his mouth, but he laid not the ground, and got under the covers. He thought about the day's events, and it seemed like a year ago they were standing in Grandmas room, surrounded by caution tape. He gave Sage a hug, and laid down on his makeshift bed. His father had been nice, and Delilah seemed that she was great too, but her Khmer looked as if she absolutely despised him.

He sighed, and pushed the thought from his head? He laid on the ground, and feel asleep. That night, he didn't have many dreams. He was fine, until about three in the morning. His eyes flew open, and he felt the need to use the restroom. He tried to sit up, but couldn't. He tried to lift his arms up off the ground, but they wouldn't budge. It felt like he had a weight on his chest.


He knew that this was a common issue in people with trauma, a issue called sleep paralysis. The person would be unable to move, and they would begin hallucinating. Which was funny, he wasn't experiencing any Hallucinations. He tried to call out, but he couldn't. He heard a voice. A... Familiar voice.


"Kayden dear, what are you doing?" His Grandmother. What... How... The voice came back, and a terrifyingly real version of his grandmother was next to him. He wanted to reach out and grab her, but he couldn't. "You could've saved me. But no...you were too much of a coward." Kayden begin to tremble slightly. "NOW BECAUSE OF YOU, I GET TO ROT IN HELL!" The hallucination spoke in a distorted,almost yelling voice.

A shadow figure appeared in the doorway, clutching a knife. Kayden knew it was a hallucination, but it looked so real. The shadow came up and raised thane behind his yelling Grandmother, who had turned into a wrinkly old looking shadow, and stabbed her viciously. In this moment, Kayden let it a yell as his hand slapped the ground where his Grandmother had been standing, all hallucinations gone.

Sage jumped at the sound of Kayden slapping his hand on the ground. She sat up and jumped out of the bed and went over to him. "What? What is it? Are you alright?" She hugged him tightly. She waited for him to explain what was wrong, but she was nervous for his answer. He didn't seem to be dreaming because he would wake up panting and shaking, this time he had just slapped his hand on the floor and she had no clue why. But she knew something was wrong and that she needed to make sure he was okay.

"Maybe you should sleep in the bed with me, maybe it'll help comfort both of us?" She suggested and helped him up and over to her bed. She put a pillow down for him as she got under the covers and put her head down as she scooted over for him to sit and lay next to her. She hoped maybe he would agree, and that it would help both of them get some sleep. Sage didn't know how she fell asleep earlier and now she was definitely awake. Maybe with Kayden there she could sleep without any nightmares.
