Levitating books and other conundrums.
Kayden was looking through the library for a certain book. A work of fiction, it was a novel by J.P Reddingham, entitled, "The Dragons Eye." Finding it, he pulled it out, and sat down at a table. It was a thick book, laces with shining golden ribbon. It looked almost too good to be opened up, but he did so nonetheless. The pages were a pristine white, and Kayden began reading. It was a thrilling book, and he found Reddinghams character building style intriguing. Finishing the first three chapters, he set it down and began thinking to himself. "Why would the sorting hat put me in Gryyfindor? I'm clearly more of a bookworm than I am a daring, brave warrior. Maybe the sorting hat got it wrong. He dismissed the thought, not wanting to imagine that. Perhaps the hat had seen something in him that he had not yet detected in himself. He wouldn't accept that. He knew himself quite well. Grabbing his wand, he set it on the table. He hadn't been doing that great with his spells, and he was beggining to think he wasn't right for the school. Grabbing his wand, he aimed it at the book. Wingardium Leviosa he said feebly with a soft flick of his wand. The book moved slightly, but not much else happend. Gritting his teeth, he tried again. WINGARDIUM LEVIOSA! he said, with a bold tone. He flicked his wand up in the air, and the book began levitating! He almost helped with excitement, and he looked around the table. Forgetting he was alone, (as he often was) he casually flicked his wand again. A horrible choice on his part. The book flew into a stack of books near the corner, sending them flying across the room. There were other students about, and Kayden was horribly afraid they'd noticed. He spun around wildly, seeing if anybody had noticed....

Levitating books and other conundrums.

Illowy had been enjoying the quiet afternoon from the comfort of her favorite seat; a worn, over stuffed chair tucked away in a corner. Balanced on the arm of the chair was her Charms book, resting on her knee was her notes from class and nimbly through her fingers twirled her wand as she went over the incantation and wand movement for the latest spell she'd been studying. A usual routine for most of the frequent fliers of the Library, so naturally she didn't think much of the young lion cub practicing the Levitation spell.
That was, until he lost control of his target, sending it flying into utter chaos as it kamikazed into a stack of books near her. One of which was launched in her direction. In a swift, instinctual motion, the girl's wand ceased its twirling as she swept her wand through the air, "Depulso!" she ordered, a white light flickering from the tip of her wand, blocking the stray book from barreling into her and forcing it the opposite way.
Once the excitment died down, she shot an icy look to the lad, "For the love of all things decent, there's a reason they start you on a bloody feather!" the snake gripped.
I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Kayden breathe a sigh of relief, seeing the book stop, then took it all back, seeing the angry Slytherin girl stomping towards him. She told him that younger students start with a feather for a reason. Kayden knew this obviously, and suddenly regretted his actions.
"Yeah. I- I know." He spoke sheepishly. This girl had much more experience under her belt, and Kayden didn't wish to mess with her. She was also extremely attractive, but that had nothing to do with it. He slid past her quickly and grabbed the book.
"Please don't tell the headmaster.... I pleaded, hoping the girl would take pity. Now Kayden wasn't one to stereotype, but he heard that Slytherins could be extremely nasty. He desperately hoped that he could convince her. He wanted to establish a clean reputation for himself. Maybe that would help him make friends faster. The girl seemed angry though, and Kayden knew an angry Slytherin was NOT an opponent you wished to have. He hung his head low,as he checked th book for damages. There was a large dent in the spine, and Kayden was sad to see such a pretty lace ruined.
He put the book down on the table and awaited the girls response.

The older girl looked the cub up and down for a moment with her pale gaze; such gaze had been described before to appear more so as though she was seeing right through a person as opposed to looking at them. How could one be so foolish and impulsive? she wondered to herself. Not that she was one to talk.
As the boy retrieved the book, taking notice of the damage his chaos had caused on the poor object as he pleaded with her to not tattle on him. Her gaze turned something quizzical before rolling her eyes, "I've no wish or reason to speak to the Headmaster about anything." she spoke, as though that should have been obvious. The girl raised her wand once more and traced an angular swirl through the air, attention back on the damaged book, "Reparo." almost instantly the book was returned back to it's former glory.
While Illowy may have only been a second year, charms and such were practically second nature, having already started on third year spells. Clearly this first year hadn't quite found his own knack for it yet, "You'll be wise to be more careful, else next time you might actually hurt either yourself or someone else." she warned, her voice still firm, but not so cold this time. The entire situation was of course annoying, but the girl still reluctantly held a soft place for first years and how tenderfooted they all were.

Kaydens breathed a sigh of relief. She want going to snitch to the headmaster. Good. His face lit up as he watched her use the Reparo spell perfectly, almost using no effort. "Wow." He muttered breathlessly. The girl, appearing to be a second year, gazed at him for quite a long time. Shifting uncomfortably, he wondered when it would end. The girl was a Slytherin, and Kayden had heard the tales of nasty things Slytherins had done. Slytherins were hated by most Gryffindors, but Kayden decided not to judge a book by its cover however. After all, she wasn't going to report to th headmaster or any prefects, and she had cleaned up the damage without asking for something in return. He smiled at her, determined to break through her stubbornly strong resolve of straight- faced, cold hard resolve. He wondered if he should say something. He didn't want didn't want to seem arrogant or naive, as most first years were. He decided to say something, as nothing lose was going to break the silence. "Y'know what? I don't think all Slytherins are as bad as people make them it to be. You seem like a nice person."

Illowy raised as brow as the lad let the comment break the silence. She was fairly certain that his words were meant to be something of a compliment, but his phrasing certainly wasn't alluding to such a thing. The older snake was more then aware of what many in the other houses, especially Gryffindor, though of Slytherin. It was a hard reputation to shake off, especially after the last Wizarding War, which had taken a devastating blow to the Slytherin's reputation.
People thought they were awful, prideful, evil people; happy to be cloaked in darkness and clawing their way to any obtainable power. Granted, Illowy did like the idea of power, but not for malicious reasons.
Illowy pursed her lips together for a moment, deciding how exactly to respond without upsetting the boy; surely he'd had only the best intentions, "Very few Slytherins are even a fraction of being as terrible as some people would like to believe. However, 'nice' would not be a totally accurate description of myself." she told him bluntly. The Irish girl certainly thought of herself as well-intentioned, but she was frank and her observations or corrections often came off as harsh criticisms. It was difficult for her to soft and gentle with people; soft was vulnerable, and vulnerability is weakness and Illowy did not like the idea of being perceived as weak in any capacity.

He wondered what he should do next. Had he offended her by calling her nice? Did she take reputation in being tough and ill-tempered? He decided that such things were of no importance. Granted, Kayden would never back down from a fight, but he also wouldn't act a fool. The girl seemed nice enough however. She had helped him clean up after all. And she wasn't going to tell the headmaster either, which was a definite plus. Although Kayden could read a persons expression quite well, this girl seemed quite difficult to understand. Although she had a scowl across her face, the scowl was more of annoyance then of rudeness.
"Im extremely sorry about that." He said, gathering up his things. "I might have some extraordinary force, but I can't sim worth a damn." Inwardly he wondered how the girl had pulled of the Reparo so cleanly. He decided to voice the fact, assuming that some advice wouldn't hurt. "How'd you pull of that spell so efficiently?" I could really use some tips on accuracy." He didn't want to seem needy, but he desperately needed help with his studies, and this girl seemed to be able to cast spells quite well.
