An Unexpected Enounter?
Rose was closing her eyes tightly and holding on Zephyr's hand the same way. She could hear him encouraging and reassuring her which she appreciated a lot. Some people wouldn't have been this attentive and supporting. She liked this side of him.
That's all she needed right now to feel at ease again and forget where she was. She felt him coming a bit closer knowing she couldn't fall and if it were to happen he wouldn't let her fall.
Rose calmly breathed before slowly opening her eyes. She turned towards Zephyr to look at him and thank him but she found herself facing his eyes. They were of a green hues. It was beautiful. The sunlight were also on Rose and Zephyr highlighting his face making his eyes color standing out even more. She quite got lost in it.
"Beautiful..." she whispered.
She felt herself turning red and it was not as if she could hid it since her skin was rather fair.
What did I just say... she thought.
"Hum...Thank you...for helping me...getting there."
She awkwardly said while quickly turning around from him hoping he hadn't heard nor noticed anything.
...I was just talking about his eyes if he heard well he might take it wrongly. And what kind of thanks were that. She worried.
She felt even more embarrassed than the first time. Plus she was still holding his hand. However she felt to scared to let it go not now at least. Yet she had loosened a bit her grip on Zephyr's hand.
As her habit she just behaved as if nothing had happened and looked at the view while saying on an embarrassed tone.
"What a shame not to look at this beautiful view, don't you think? haha."
That sounded weird to Rose's ears so she couldn't even imagine it to Zephyrs. Why was she behaving so clumsily around him? He would probably end up thinking she is a real weirdo.
But she suddenly remembered one of her childhood memory that put her at ease and made her slightly smile while looking at the view.
"You know dumbie it's my brother who used to call me like that whenever I was doing something stupid or accidentally wrong. It was one of his affectionate words towards me. Of course that could sound mean to others or to call someone like this out of nowhere but from him it was full of affection and concern." Rose said with a calming expression on her face as her smile didn't left her lips.
"Especially since I'm rather clumsy...he was quite worried." she added with small chuckle.
"Plus it occurred in a similar situation as now when he first used this word. I guess that's also where my fear of heights comes from."
Rose was speaking in a calm and collected tone.
"Haha sorry to speak too much" she quickly said as her cheek slightly took on a pinkish hue.
"Do you often come here on your own?" Rose asked Zephyr while sighting the view.

“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”

Zephyr heard her whisper, 'beautiful,' and since he was looking at the view, he thought she was talking about it, so he merely nodded in complete agreement with her, not taking his eyes off ahead. Though when he briefly glanced in her direction, he noticed her red face and again, he thought it was because of the sunlight or the cold breeze, and he had to fight the instinct to grin. He was accustomed to people being confident or joking around with him; one proof of that was his younger sister Zaria, who bugged him to no end. Rose was honest, a little clumsy, and surprisingly open even when she's nervous. She turned away quickly after thanking him, obviously fumbling with her words. He noticed how tightly she still held his hand. “It’s no problem. I’m glad you joined me up here. I wouldn’t want anyone to feel scared or hurt.” He shifted slightly so she could look at the view comfortably while still feeling secure.
He listened as she rambled a little about her brother and the nickname dumbie, and he couldn’t help but smile to himself. "How old is your brother?" He finally understood her nervous energy, the way she fumbled her words. It was all part of her story. But she also apologised for talking too much. She’s funny, brave in her own way, too. Not many people would get up here if they were scared. "Don’t worry about talking too much.” He shook his head lightly. “I like listening to other people's stories. Makes it easier to know someone.”
When asked if he often came here alone, and the truth was, yes, he did. He liked being in quiet places, especially up high where he could see everything around Hogwarts without being crowded by people or noise. It reminded him of home. "Yes, I come here a lot. It’s quiet up here. Gives me time to think. Sometimes I just sit and watch the view or whatever’s happening outside. Helps me clear my head.” He glanced at her, noticing how she looked at the view now with more ease than before. “But, it’s nicer with company.” he added quietly, almost like an afterthought. “So… what about you? Do you like taking a walk on your own?” Curious to hear her side. He liked learning about people, and Rose was a story he wanted to follow.

Rose and Zephyr were still standing on the branch while looking at the beautiful view. When Zephyr told Rose he wouldn't let anyone being hurt or feeling scared she chuckled and couldn't help but to say what was on her mind.
"As expected of a king! Taking care of his people is indeed a really important virtue." she said teasingly while slightly laughing. She wasn't making fun of him to have said that instead she found it nice and appreciable so she hoped he wouldn't think otherwise.
Rose was feeling dizzy because she hadn't eaten much today and being above the ground wasn't helping much however she didn't want to go down on the ground since she enjoyed being there with Zephyr. So she just decided to sit down on the branch. While bending down to seat she kept Zephyr's hand in hers and support herself on the branch with her other hand. As soon as it reached the branch and she could sit she slowly let go of Zephyr's hand. Almost reluctantly. She found his hand really warm giving her a sense of confidence and safety. However she couldn't held on his hand forever because even if he offered to her she didn't want to make him feeling obliged to keep holding her hand just because she was scared.
When she finally sat she kept looking at the view in front of her almost daydreaming. To be honest, she was appreciating Zephyr much more than she thought. He didn't know her much but still he was attentive and supporting to her. Plus he was nice and funny. Indeed it seemed to Rose he was getting in her teasing making her even more comfortable with him.
Then Zephyr asked about Rose's brother's age. She smiled. She dearly loved her brother and was always happy to talk about him. She was admiring him.
"My brother, Ewan, is 13 years old. He is in 3rd year here also in Ravenclaw!" she said with a big smile.
"Oh by the way he is a really good Quidditch player!! So maybe he will be there at the Broom Racing!" she added enthusiastically while looking up at Zephyr.
"If you happen to see him, he is really different from me. Character." her smile still on her lips.
When Rose was getting comfortable she could sometimes speak too much as it happened but Zephyr told her not to worry about it since he liked listening to other's people. And once again she found the opportunity to tease him.
"Well that's not fair if I'm the only talking about me." she said in a feigned tone of annoyance before chuckling.
"Here now he is being mysterious." she said thoughtfully to herself but purposely loud enough for Zephyr to hear it.
"Not with me. As you said every king needs someone to keep him in check, every mysterious boy needs someone to decode him." she said with her malicious smile towards Zephyr. It was also her way to indicate him to tell her about him and his life.
When Zephyr told Rose he liked it here because it was quiet she couldn't agree more. It was hard to find a quiet place in the castle. Of course there was the library but it was never empty and totally quiet like here. So she could understand him, she also liked better quiet places.
At the end Zephyr added quietly a sentence Rose still heard. She just smiled without saying anything not sure Zephyr wanted her to hear it. But he was right.
"Yes it's really refreshing and same as you it helps me clearing my mind. Even though it's better with some company." Rose said but she wasn't done and teasingly added.
"But since I know you're here maybe I will avoid this part of the lake."
She laughed. She was feeling happy to be here with Zephyr. He was making her comfortable and things seemed to be simple with him, without worries. She also wanted to hear more about him.

Rose continue to tease him, the way she called him a king and talked about taking care of his people was definitely amusing. He was trying to get comfortable while keeping an eye on her so she feels safe while up there. “A king has to take care of his people, can’t have anyone getting hurt on my watch.” He turned to her, grinning and making it clear he was joking but also sincere in his own way. He watched her carefully as she decided to sit down, holding his hand for support for a moment before letting go. He didn’t mind at all, it was just good that she trusted him enough to hold on in the first place. He noticed the way she sat, tense at first, and he thought she was probably still nervous about being that high up.
She continued to talk about her brother, his attention shifted fully to her again. He liked hearing people talk about their families, it gave him a better idea of who they were. “Thirteen, so he’s only a little older than you.” Smiling at her, “And in Ravenclaw too! That’s great. I’m sure he’s really proud to have a little sister here as well.” He raised an eyebrow when she mentioned her brother’s Quidditch skills. “A Quidditch player, huh? Well, if he’s good, maybe I’ll see him around the Broom Racing. That’ll be fun though I’ll have to try not to crash or fall off the broom first.” Her brothers sounded like he’s got a big personality if he’s different from her. "I’d like to see that, actually.”
He caught her teasing again about talking too much, and he smiled. “Hey, don’t worry about talking too much. I like listening, really. It’s interesting to hear someone’s thoughts. It's easier to know them, and it’s way better than pretending to be bored like some people do.” He gave her a quick glance, noticing the little mischievous spark in her eyes when she talked about being unfair and decoding him. He shook his head slightly, amused. “Decode me, I don’t know if I’m that mysterious, really. Why are you interested anyway? Mostly, I just keep busy. But if you want, I can try telling you a bit about myself. Might make you laugh, or at least not leave you guessing.”
He shifted so he could talk to her more easily, “I grew up on a farm back in Swansea. Big open fields, lots of animals, a couple of neighbors, but mostly it was peaceful life. That’s part of why I like being somewhere like this, up in a tree by the lake. I’m used to quiet spots where I can think, and I like to see everything around me. At home, I’d be helping with fences, feeding animals, fixing things with my dad. Keeps my hands busy.” He laughed remembering how he used to mess things up when he was little and his dad would shake his head but still let him help. “I have a little sister, Zaria. She’s well, she’s annoying, she can bug you endlessly, but she keeps things interesting. I write to my family often because I miss them.”
She commented about avoiding this part of the lake now that she knew he was here, he just laughed at that. “Avoiding me? Nah, I don’t think you will actually do that. Besides, I like it here, but it’s better with company even if you're just teasing me half the time.” He was not trying to make her feel guilty, he liked having someone to talk to while sitting here. He glanced at her, noting how comfortable she seemed now sitting down and looking at the lake. “So, what else should I know about you? You’ve got a brother who calls you dumbie and plays Quidditch, but there’s gotta be more, right? I want to know the real Rose, not just the one I met on the boat.” There was a real curiosity behind his words. He wanted to hear her, to understand her a little better.
He realized he liked that she could tease him so easily and still be shy at times. It was rare for him in a place like Hogwarts, where everything feels so big and loud and overwhelming most of the time. “What’s the most fun thing you’ve done since getting to Hogwarts? Besides climbing trees with wind kings, of course.” He laughed, hoping she would share and maybe let him in on a bit more of her world.

An Unexpected Enounter?
As Zephyr was commenting on her brother she chuckled and started to tell a bit more about the relationship with her brother.
"Yes I don't know if it's because he is only 2 years older but we are really close. He has always cared for me and took care of me. He spent a lot of times with me when I was younger when our parents were not home." she said with a sad smile.
"Mostly he is the one who told me about Hogwarts and everything around here. Even about Quidditch and how passionate he was about it. He even got disappointed I could never do it since I'm afraid of heights." she said chuckling.
"But of course me being in Ravenclaw makes it up for it." she said before pausing.
"Though he would still have been proud whichever house I would have been sorted out in." she said smiling still looking at the lake.
Then when Rose said her brother was a Quidditch player and talked about his Quidditch skills she saw Zephyr raising an eyebrow. She looked at him her eyes sparkling.
"He IS REALLY a VERY GOOD Quidditch player." she said slowly and calmly emphasizing some words. Then she thought of something and smiled before adding.
"Well I could talk to him about you. He could be a good Quidditch mentor, tutor or teacher whatever the name he would gladly help you." she said proudly.
"Unless you're doubting his Quidditch skills?" she said mischievously her eyes full of defiance. Of course she was slightly teasing him.
Rose found the atmosphere nice and agreeable as Zephyr was encouraging her to keep talking but when he asked why she was interested in knowing more about him she frowned even if he said it on an amusing tone.
"Why wouldn't I be interested?"
"And you know everyone is mysterious in their own way." she paused.
"I want to know about you the same reason you like listening to people's stories. It's to get to know you, who you are, where you from. It's better to be in the company of someone whose story you know." she smiled while looking at him.
Then Zephyr started to talk about him a bit more and Rose was carefully listening to him which also helped her to relax and feel more at ease. Once he stopped talking Rose was amazed by the busy life he had.
"Swansea...that's such a pretty name. It must be a pretty village as well! Actually I haven't been to Wales." she said daydreaming about how it could look.
"You seemed to have a pretty nice life back there. It feels to be a really peaceful life." she said with a smile still daydreaming about it. "Are your parents not wizards?" she curiously asked.
"And are they originally from Swansea?" she then asked too as the question popped up in her mind.
"But that's why!!" she suddenly said.
"Your hands! And strength!" she said while looking and pointing at Zephyr's hands.
"I actually was wondering how you could be that strong. And when I held your hand it seemed to me that was a hand of someone who is used to work with it! That's really cool! You know how to do a lot of things!" she added admiringly.
When Zephyr told about his sister and how annoying she was Rose couldn't help but chuckling.
"I guess all younger sisters are annoying. She just loves you dearly and wants your attention for you to be proud of her." she said thinking of herself with her brother.
"How old is she?" asked Rose curiously.
"If you were used to be around your family all the time it's understandable you miss them." Rose told Zephyr smiling.
She was also probably missing her family but as she was used not to have them around all the time she might not really miss them as someone who were always with their parents like it seemed to be the case with Zephyr. She sadly smiled almost feeling guilty not to miss her parents more. She hasn't even written to them yet. Probably they were busy with work and she didn't want to bother them even if they would be more than happy to receive news from her. Maybe deep down she was envying Zephyr a bit. It reminded Rose what her mother told her about her childhood. The simple and peaceful life her mother had. Rose was wondering why they hadn't lived that kind of life. But her father was from a different world and her mom had other aspirations.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard Zephyr's comment about her not going to truly avoid him. She laughed slightly before getting serious. She raised an eyebrow and asked Zephyr maliciously.
"You want to bet?" then she laughed not able to keep her false seriousness.
Why am I so goofy she wondered but turning red of embarrassment when Zephyr mentioned her teasing him half of the time.
What if he actually gets bothered by it but don't tell me
Or maybe he found it annoying but doesn't know how to tell me and that's his way to let me know? Now Rose was overthinking worried she might have actually teased him too much.
But she was taken out of her thoughts when Zephyr spoke again.
"The real Rose..." she whispered. She wasn't even sure to know herself well.
She felt a bit ashamed and embarrassed because her life wasn't as busy and exciting as Zephyrs seemed to be. Not there was nothing to tell -even though she wasn't sure what to say- but it was rather boring and not interesting. She would surely disappoint Zephyr.
"Well what could be said." she said embarrassed and awkwardly.
"I rather have a boring life." she said looking at the lake blankly which was quite sudden. Not that her childhood was unhappy but rather an ordinary childhood.
"You would probably be disappointed." she said with a small laugh.
"Believe it or not I think climbing a tree with Wind King may be the funniest thing I have done here." she said chuckling.
"I'm still exploring."
"What about you?" she asked him curiously.
Rose was wondering. Zephyr might have done a lot of things already since he was used to be busy back home.

“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”
An Unexpected Enounter?
Zephyr found himself genuinely smiling at the way Rose talked about her brother. He liked hearing her speak with such affection and pride. It was clear they had a strong bond. "You two are really close, aren't you? Being only two years older, it’s a built-in guide, right?” He chuckled. “It’s good to have someone like that around, especially when your parents aren’t there. I had my sister, Zaria, but she was more like a constant little storm. She’s loud, mischievous, and keeps me on my toes, but I know she cares. Your brother’s the opposite in that sense.”
She talked further about how her brother taught her about Hogwarts and Quidditch. “Having someone explain everything helps a lot, especially with all the rules, the houses, the games and Quidditch, of course, that’s a whole different world on its own.” He was shaking his head, “I wouldn’t have gotten half of it without someone showing me the ropes at first. Don’t worry about being afraid of heights; everyone has something like that. I would probably have a hard time controlling my broom the first time if someone didn't help me.”
She was proud of being sorted into Ravenclaw, "I'm sure he is. Every sibling would be, I think?" and told him about his Quidditch skills, teasing him about it being a potential tutoring opportunity. “Whoa, okay, slow down, if he’s that good, I might have to take you up on that offer. But is she really willing to help a newbie like me? I don't want to be a bother if ever." He gave her an eye roll at the look she's giving him, “I wouldn’t doubt him for a second if you say he’s good. You know your brother better than anyone else here. I trust your judgment.”
She seemed confused about his earlier comments on being mysterious. "You’re right, everyone has something mysterious about them. I just didn’t think about it like that. And I do like the idea that you want to know me.” He looked at the lake again for a moment, letting the breeze cool his face. “It’s the same with you, you open up so easily. Not everyone does that, I’m learning things about you that I probably wouldn’t have heard from anyone else in a long time.”
About Swansea, “It’s small but nice, really peaceful with open fields, a few houses, lots of green, animals everywhere. I spent a lot of time outside. The village itself isn’t huge, but it’s home.” She inquired about his family, “My mom is a Muggle, and my dad is a pureblood. But he kept it all this time from me until I received my Hogwarts Acceptance letter. According to my dad, he left the wizarding world when his parents disowned him for falling in love with a Muggle. Since then, he lived in the Muggle world.” It’s weird sometimes, being at Hogwarts when most of the kids have wizarding families. "They’ve been supportive, and they taught me a lot about hard work and taking responsibility. My mom's from Swansea, dad's from Northern Ireland."
Suddenly, she realised something and pointed out his hands, he glanced down and flexed his fingers with a grin. “Ah, you noticed, huh? Yeah, due to regular farm work. My hands are accustomed to lifting, carrying, fixing, and doing a variety of tasks that keep them rough. I like seeing things I’ve built or fixed. There’s a sense of accomplishment in it.” He chuckled, “It does help me when I’m climbing trees with friends who are a little afraid of heights.”
“Yes, that’s exactly how she is. She’s annoying as hell sometimes, but it’s because she wants attention in her own way. Wants me to notice her and be proud. She usually succeeds whether I like it or not.” He smiled at the memory of his little sister. “She’s seven now. She’s loud, curious, and mischievous, but I would be worried if she weren't. Keeps me on my toes, that one.” Rose said she understood why he missed his family, especially since he was used to being around them all the time. "I write to them often. But being here is amazing too, don’t get me wrong. Hogwarts is bigger, louder, and more complicated than Swansea ever was. But I like it, I really do.”
Zephyr could tell right away that something shifted in Rose when he talked about his family. She smiled, but it wasn't what you would call a happy smile. It looked more distant if he would take a good guess. As if she was thinking about something that bothered her, but didn’t want to say it out loud. He didn’t push; he was not the type to ask someone to open up before they were ready, but he did notice.
He watched her laugh at his teasing, then try to put on a serious face and challenge him with that wanna bet line of hers. He snorted and shook his head. “Oh yeah? You think you could avoid me?” he said with a playful smirk. “I’m everywhere, can’t escape the wind, or you won't live long.” It took her some time to speak again, and when she did, he shook his head again. “You don’t have a boring life,” He looked at her instead of the lake. “And even if you think it’s quiet or simple, that doesn’t make it uninteresting. You are the one living it, so it matters. Besides…you don’t seem boring to me at all. You’re funny, you talk a lot, you tease me for everything, and you climbed up here even though you were scared. That’s not boring.”
“And I don’t get disappointed that easily. You won’t scare me away with a normal childhood, trust me.” He laughed when she added that climbing the tree with the Wind King was the funniest thing she’d done here. “That’s because you have great taste in company.” He was just joking, and after a second, he added more honestly, “And I’m glad I got to be part of that.” She asked what he had done so far at Hogwarts, "The most fun things I’ve done here so far are just… exploring the castle, hanging out with my housemates, learning new things in classes. I tried flying in class, which was exciting but also scary at first. And I joined that broom race thing because I wanted to push myself a bit. Try something new.”

An Unexpected Enounter?
Zephyr and Rose were getting to know each other. Zephyr was talking more about him and his family which Rose appreciated. She was also proud of herself to have made him open up even if she hadn't spoken about her family herself.
When Zephyr was talking about his sister the care in his voice could be heard. When he said her sister was the opposite of her brother she chuckled a bit before telling him.
"Because he cares for me doesn't mean he is not annoying me."
"And for her you're probably the same way my brother is for me. I totally understand her and she is still young. When she will grow up you might regret and miss this time because as people get older they still change a bit." she added with a gentle smile.
When Zephyr told her her brother wouldn't want to teach a newbie Rose couldn't help but laugh.
"On the contrary! He will be more than happy. Remember he couldn't teach me so if he found someone else to teach and pass on his passion for the Quidditch, his sister or not he couldn't say no. He likes it too much!"
"And it's more interesting to teach someone who has to learn than someone who knows half of it already, isn't it?" Rose asked looking at Zephyr with a smile.
Zephyr pursued on talking about Swansea and his family and she started to feel a bit guilty not to say anything more about her family. He talked about the bet but what he said afterwards about her made Rose forget about the bet. She felt herself blushing of too many compliments and a bit of embarrassment so she looked the other way for Zephyr not to see her face.
Rose didn't have many friends back home only a few and she was struggling to make ones. But no one has talked to her this way before trying to know more about her, her life and encouraging her speaking about it. Her friends back home except her best friend with who she hadn't talked to for a while didn't really know much about her life. That could seem ironic since they are friends but maybe was it more classmates than real true friends.
Then Zephyr mentioned about her having great taste in company. Rose turned her head towards him raised an eyebrow her eyes full of mischief and she teased him. Again.
"Who said I was looking for company?"
"And of course if I were to be with someone, better it to have a nice time." she added satisfied.
Obviously she was joking and teasing Zephyr as her new habit while talking to him. She couldn't help it. Rose was often teasing people when she was getting comfortable with them. But Zephyr? She was teasing him almost to everything he was saying. Maybe because it was easier to talk with him when she was teasing him? However she appreciated that Zephyr truly enjoyed her company probably as much as she was.
She slightly smiled looking at the lake feeling the air gently brushing her face. She sighed before opening her mouth.
"I was born in Edinburgh. I was surrounded by everything that can be found in a big city: lot of people everywhere, noises, cars, buses. Of course there are some nature around but it's different from being in the countryside. Not that I disliked it but I enjoyed going on vacation with my parents to my grandparent's house, my mom's hometown, Portree on Skye Island. Maybe it is a bit similar to Swansea. I really like it there. But my father is not from the same world as my mom he is a city man, though he is not from Edinburgh neither. As you may have guessed already my parents were not often at home because of their work especially my dad. Of course that doesn't mean I had not spend any time with them, no let's just say limited time. Limited but always high quality since they knew it was rare. I guess that's why I remember well and cherish each moment spend with them. When we were young my brother and I had a nanny to take care of us. As we grew up especially my brother, the nanny left. Then my brother and I were often finding ourselves alone back home. That's also why my brother and I spent a lot of time together since a young age. We kind of stick together. When my brother got his Letter of Acceptance from Hogwarts he and my parents offered me -even though he is the family dog- a Maltese dog I named Olen so I wouldn't feel to lonely." Rose chuckled.
"Though a Maltese dog and me being quite clumsy us together I let you imagine the mess it could have been sometimes."
"However, when my brother was going back home during vacations we remained the same and he was telling me about everything he would have learnt, how it was here, Hogwarts. I can remember the time we spent in the library we had at home. We could stay there the whole day and even fall asleep." she slightly laughed at the memory.
She looked at the lake a bit of sadness in her eyes.
"I haven't even written to my parents since I got there. Not that I don't miss them or don't think about them." she paused.
"I know they would be happy to receive news from me but I can't help thinking they are busy with work and I don't want to bother or disturb them." she said with a sad smile.
"But yes that's pretty it. No hard works or things to repair." she said teasingly while looking at Zephyr.
"I'm rather the one who tends to break things..." she thoughtfully said more as an after thought to herself.
After having telling Zephyr the big picture of her background Rose realised how much she might have talked and felt a bit embarrassed as she awkwardly smiled at Zephyr before turning her head the other way. She all of sudden felt shy.
What if I talked too much?
He may have not wanted to know that much?
Then to change the topic as if she hadn't spoken before at all she turned again to him, her mischievous look on.
"So what about that bet?" she tried to seriously ask with her eyes sparkling of defiance looking at Zephyr.

An Unexpected Enounter?
Zephyr listened to her every word and noticed the simple smiles and chuckles that slipped out of her feature. He shrugged at her reaction about sibling dynamic. "I guess so, that’s the way it is with siblings. For Zaria, it's true, I’m the same as your brother. I watch out for her, but she’s driving me nuts sometimes.” But Rose was right, when she gets older, he would probably look back and miss this. He wouldn't notice it now, or if he would care about it at all, but those little things when they’re young, those are the ones he would end up remembering.
Jade eyes stayed on her as she laughed about her brother teaching Quidditch. “Maybe you’re right. Teaching someone who’s completely new is way more interesting than someone who already knows bits and pieces. You get to see them grow, watch them figure things out. I would probably learn a thing or two myself.”
Zephyr noticed her eyes shifted away from him for something he said to her. She seemed shy for some reason he couldn't tell. Was it something about his family? Or something else entirely? Maybe she remembered something back home? Some people just don’t open up easily, and that was fine with him. Besides, the red tint on her cheeks told him to shut his mouth because that meant she's already embarrassed as it is and he didn't want to add to that. He didn’t want to push her or anyone for that matter either. Maybe this was just a sensitive topic for her?
He was not bothered that she continued to tease him, he just shrugged again, "I can’t argue with that logic and I’m not complaining. I like hanging out with you, so I’ll take the compliment.” It was her turn to talk about Edinburgh, about her childhood, her parents, her brother, and the little Maltese dog, Olen. You can sense there was pride, nostalgia, and a little sadness mixed in her voice. "I bet the dog misses you so much now. Do you have a photo of your dog?"
“Edinburgh, that's a big city life, for sure, it must have been a lot to grow up with." But from what she told him, they had good vacations. "I heard of Portree, Skye Island. Beautiful place, but I haven't been there yet.” City life and then the peaceful life of a countryside home for a break. "That’s how I grew up too, except I never had much of a city life, just fields, animals, and neighbors a ways off." But he know what she meant about remembering and cherishing those moments with their families no matter how frequent or rare they were.
She talked about her parents being busy hence why she had not sent any letters to them. "My parents were around a lot when I was younger, sometimes they’re busy with work or life. Doesn’t mean you don’t care or don’t miss them. There's no shame in that Rose, you'll do it when you want to, you shouldn't pressure yourself too much. And even if they're actually busy, you are their child, if you sent a letter, they will put in some time to read it. There's no harm in trying, right?”
She seemed bothered that she spoke a lot but in truth, he liked that she opened up too. “No, don’t worry about that, I didn’t mind at all. I actually like hearing about your life, it’s not boring. It helps me understand you, and that’s worth more than anything, as long as it's real and true." She switched gears, mischievous again, bringing up the bet. “You’re serious about that bet, huh? Or is this another trick to get me talking? Alright, fine. Let’s do this. But don’t think I’ll go easy on you just because you’re teasing me half the time. You’re going to have to try harder than that.”

An Unexpected Enounter?
After Rose talked Zephyr admitted liking to hear about her life and she shouldn't be worried of talking too much. Actually she was glad to have found someone like him always ready to listen and also really reassuring in his word. When he asked her if she had a picture of her dog Olen Rose smiled as she searched in the pocket of her robe before taking out a wallet.
The weather has cooled down since Zephyr and her were here for quite some time now so her hands were feeling cold and had turned a bit red from the coolness. She struggled a bit to open her wallet but successfully did it. Then she quickly searched inside to get out a small black and white motion picture of her dog she held out to Zephyr. On the picture could be seen a small black dog wagging its tail as he was looking up before sitting down. It looked as if he was smiling. Happiness could be perceived in the picture. Rose particularly liked this picture as it was Olen's birthday and the day she succeeded making him to sit down.
"It was his birthday on this picture. It's my favourite. I know it's a common picture as nothing special or extraordinary happens but that the day he listened to me when I asked him to sit down." she explained Zephyr with a small chuckle.
"It's nothing and even may seem silly to others but he was listening to everyone but me. As if he was doing it on purpose. So obviously I felt really happy when he finally listened to me." she added.
"It's not seen on the picture but after he sat down I was so happy he listened to me he ran to me as if he felt I was happy and proud of him. So I took him in my arms and hugged him." she paused.
"He was often with me but since that day he didn't even want to let go of me." she said with a small laugh.
"So of course you can imagine how sad he was when I had to leave for Hogwarts. I can't imagine how much he misses me. And I do to." she ended saying.
"You too, you may miss animals from the farm back home, don't you? Did you have a favourite one?" Rose curiously asked Zephyr.
Then Zephyr commented about Skye Island. Rose smiled at the memories of her vacations there.
"I'm sure you would like it. Probably really similar to Swansea." she told him with a smile.
"I hope I will able to go there for the vacations!" she added before asking him.
"Where do you often go during holidays? Do you mostly stay in Swansea?"
When Rose told Zephyr about her not having sending letters to her parents he happened not to judge her at all. Instead he reassured her and gave her kind of some advice.
"Yes you're right. Maybe I will send them a letter really soon."
"Thank you Zephyr." she said while turning towards him with a gentle smile.
"Do you mind if I told them I met a king named Zephyrus?" she teasingly asked him.
Of course if she were to send a letter to her parents she would talk about the people she had met and become friends with. And Zephyr was one of them. Quite becoming an important one to Rose. She was not sure about him but for her it was sure she wanted him to remain on her side.
She felt her cheeks warmed a bit when Zephyr told her he liked hearing about her life and that was helping him to understand her better as he wanted to. She was more than glad to be able to talk this openly to him. That was one of the reason she enjoyed being in his company. He was not judging neither mocking her. He was giving her a feeling of confidence, someone she could trust. Actually when he helped her getting up to that tree she kind of felt it already but the more they talked, the more certain she became.
By Zephyr's tone it was like he couldn't believe she was being really serious about the bet. To be honest she wasn't sure whether she was serious or not but she found it funny so she kept going on with it. Plus Zephyr was getting in.
"No don't worry! I don't think I need a bet to make you talking." she told him with a mischievous smirk.
"Oh I'm not scared. One day I did a bet with my brother obviously I lost and I had to eat a whole package of Every Flavour Beans. One each day until the package was empty. The thing is I'm not a candy sweet person so...yeah." she explained him with a laugh.
Then she thought awhile before speaking again.
"Alright! Let's say it's going on for a week. If you lose and I win you owe me a treat whatever you want it to be. So you will have to carefully choose. If I lose and you win, well decide what you would like from me." Rose told Zephyr her eyes sparkling.
Actually she was finding this funny and was enjoying it. It would also be a way to better know Zephyr and share something with him.

“She looked towards the dark, starry sky wishing she could drown in its vastness, the way one drifts in the deep, endless ocean.”
An Unexpected Enounter?
Zephyr scooted closer when Rose pulled out her wallet from her robe pocket. One thing he noticed was that her fingers were looking red from the cold, and he almost offered to help her open it, but he stopped himself, not wanting to make her feel she couldn’t do it herself. He watched quietly as she worked it open, and when she finally pulled out the picture and handed it to him, he carefully accepted it and immediately smiled at what he saw. It was a wizarding moving picture. In it was a tiny Maltese dog with dark fur, and he was wagging his tail hard enough that his whole back actually wiggled. It was funny to look at. From what he saw, the dog was looking up at whoever was taking the picture before doing a little circle and sitting down. If he's not mistaken, the reaction meant he was rather ridiculously pleased with himself. It really did look like he was smiling.
Zephyr chuckled, “He’s adorable, look at him. He looks proud of himself, too.” He continued to watch it for a few more seconds before handing the picture back to her. She commented that it might be silly, but he shook his head in response. “No, it’s not silly at all. It’s a big deal when an animal listens to you; it means you got through to them already.” They said a dog listened to the most dominant voice in the room. It's the only voice they follow over the others. That's when you knew how important you are to the dog. He smiled when she explained how Olen ran into her arms. “Dogs always know when you’re happy, and they always want to be part of it.” He rubbed his thumb against his palm absentmindedly, thinking of something. “He probably misses you like crazy and is waiting for you. Dogs do that, they really wait for their person.”
She asked if he missed the animals back home, and that question brightened his expression. “Yes, I miss them a lot. We’ve got sheep back home. A whole bunch of them. But...uh, don’t laugh.” He gave her a warning look, even though he knew she would tease him anyway. “I have a favorite one.” Sighing in the process as if he was admitting something embarrassing. “Her name is Marshmallow. She’s this fluffy white sheep, round as a cloud. Follows me everywhere when I’m doing chores. If I stop moving, she bumps my leg until I pay attention to her.” He rolled his eyes at himself. “My dad says she thinks I’m another sheep. Which I hope isn’t true.” Another chuckled at the thought. “And we got a dog too, a border collie. Male, black and white color. His name’s Scout. He’s five years old.” His smile grew at the memory. “He’s the smartest animal we have, always helping round up the sheep, but he’s also weirdly clingy with me. Every time I sit down, he tries to climb onto my lap even though he’s way too big.” And this is the reason why he missed their animals back home. “I won't be surprised if Olen’s sleeping on your bed, waiting for you to come back.”
Rose talked about Skye Island further, and from the way she described it, he knew he would like it too if it wasn't far from Swansea. Close to nature, fresh air, mountain hills and open fields. He nodded in response to her question about holidays. “We mostly stayed in Swansea, just helping my dad around the farm, but I do go and see some of my friends nearby. Sometimes we will go to the coast, just a day trip or two. And you? Are you planning on going back to Portree this year?”
Whatever he told her about sending the letter to her parents helped, as she decided to do it. If it really did help, then he was glad he didn't stop himself from saying anything. He's usually not good at assuring people, but he always has that effect, whether he says anything or not at all. Maybe it's his presence? He couldn't be sure. Her question was amusing, and he laughed out loud, not only in embarrassment but also in amusement. “You can tell them that if you want, just don’t exaggerate too much, okay? I’m flattered, and I’ll hold you to that bet later, so don’t try anything funny.”
The talk about Every Flavour Beans was also funny, “Oof, I will probably lose that bet too, not my favourite either. A whole package? I don’t think I could last a day.” She laid out the terms of their week-long bet, and he found himself grinning in response. “Okay then, one week bet. If I lose, I owe you a treat. And if you lose, we’ll see, I’ll make sure it’s worth it for me too, and don’t even think about using my weakness against me. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.”
“Speaking of which, it’s getting a little chilly up here. Let’s head down before our hands freeze, or we turn into icicles.” He carefully slid down a few inches to show her the safest place to put her feet. “Take it slow, put your hand here, on the branch.” When he reached the ground safely, he waited for her and offered his hand to her again. "All good? See, it's not that hard right?" They walked back toward Hogwarts, and all the while, he was thinking how nice it was to have someone like Rose to talk to. He liked how she teased him, how she laughed, and how she opened up little by little. "This has been fun, talking to you and hearing your stories.” He didn’t say it out loud yet, but deep down, he was glad she trusted him enough to climb that tree and share a piece of her world. He knew there would be more stories, more teasing, and maybe even more adventures to come.
