"Colin and Liam!" The ever cheerful voice that Colin had been hoping most to hear at last entered the room, along with Emmi, the voice's owner! Colin smiled. Since nothing sus had been revealed in the room by the twins' careful examination, they had begun to prepare for the afternoon's activity. Emily's entrance and hugs were a very welcome distraction for Colin. He thought it a bit odd, though, when Emily said they felt so cold.

Colin gave her a perplexed look. "I don't feel cold, Emmi," he said. He undid a couple buttons of his shirt and stuck his hand inside. Liam smirked, then poked Colin's side. "Yeep!" Liam laughed! "Liam McCoire! She said cowd not ticklish!" He took Liam's face dramatically between his hands. "I say dear Liam! Tha'rt as cowd as any living corpse! For sooth, I shall make thee a right bonny jumper!"

"Ye'll do no such thing, Caileann McCoire! Last time we tried those knitting needles of yours, I ended up with a scarf half an inch wide and thirty-three feet ten centimetres long! Anyway, I brought me own this time! We can have a contest!"

Emily commented on the boys' choice of clothing. "Honestly, Em," Colin said with a loving roll of his bright eyes; "the weather here is perfectly comfortable! And I don't prance, do I?"

"Actually Cail ---"

"ShutitLiam!" Colin interrupted.

"She's not wrong ye know, Cail. Though I'd characterise your movements as more a mixture of prancing and strutting. Especially when Miss Shephard is around!" Colin turn red as an apple, and glared at Liam! He never had the chance as Emily quickly wrapped them up in a long scarf!

"MMmmMMMM!!! Mm MMM MMMM!!!" Colin said.

Emily invited them join her by the fireplace. The boys disentangled themselves from the scarf before crouching down on the floor on either side of Emily's bean bag. They rummaged around in their satchels, withdrawing innocent appearing knitting needles and some yarn. Liam had chosen an interesting combination of green, purple, and bright yellow. Colin nodded in approval. His own choice had been several variations of nondescript drab greens, straws and dark blue, with some dark red.

The boys tossed their yarn balls into the air, quickly followed by the knitting needles! The charmed needles deftly began clacking away, capturing the yarns, and steadily made progress with making a most curious cloth. Colin leaned back against the bean sack. He looked up at Emily. She worked at her own project. Colin sighed. "So beautiful in the fire light, he whispered."

"What was that Cail? We couldn't quite hear ye! Who's beautiful in the fire light?"

"LIAM!" Colin growled.

Liam laughed. "As if we can't guess!"

Colin fell silent just watching Emily's project slowly take shape.

Emily had assembled all the colours she wanted and her needle was ready for threading. She wanted to make something colourful. Vibrant. Snuggly. Maybe something for snoozing in! But her mind was drawing a blank. She wasn't necessarily a sewing specialist, with her talents already quite limited.

She tapped her foot in time with her racing thoughts. There were so many possibilities that her brain simply shut down at the indecisiveness. She could start with a pair of socks for Colin and Liam to wear... But what were the actual odds of them actually wearing them on a regular basis, never mind the cold? Even Colin said he didn't feel a thing against the drop in temperature... Though that gave Emily half a mind to think he had inhuman body heat. Maybe being a werewolf had something to do with that, that she didn't consider before...

In the midst of her thinking, a sweet and gentle voice cut through her train of thought. Looking up, she spotted Kim hovering above her and the McCoire twins, Kibō accompanying him in usual snake fashion of being wrapped around his human like a reptilian scarf.

"More friends!" Emily beamed as she briefly set her equipment aside to greet Kim and extend a friendly pinkie finger to his snake companion. Haah... Kibō was still an adorable little critter, wide black eyes and all.

"Chilly weather we're having, aren't we?" she laughed. A small shiver rocked her shoulders and she rubbed her hands together, inching back towards the fireplace where her body wanted her. She invited Kim and his slithery pal to join her and the twins with a gentle nod of her head.

At the same time, one of her younger Huffie peers - Nova Astron - came over. A welcome greeting, of course. Emily spent so much time with friends outside of Hufflepuff that it was a nice surprise for a badger to come and say hello. Nova asked the same question Emily has been struggling to answer since she first stepped into the room.

"I'm afraid I haven't yet decided what I'll make yet," she replied. Her eyes drifted absentmindedly to Kibō.

So cute. And scaly!

And... An idea!

"On second thought... Maybe I have...!"

She slipped back over to Kim's side, a polite eye lingering on Kibō, more specifically his smooth noggin. Emily nodded once as if to confirm something before reaching for a set of knitting needles and a turquoise-coloured ball of yarn. Her needle and thread for cross-stitching laid abandoned beside her thigh for the time being as her knitting needles eagerly clicked away, the ball of yarn spinning like clockwork.

She peeked up every now and then from her work to see Colin and Liam whispering to each other... And some other times, one would jab their elbow into the other's rib. Ouch!

"You fellas ought to sit a peace, especially when everyone has a needle in their hands," she scolded them lightly. She knew they meant no harm... Though that didn't mean there wouldn't be any harm unless they weren't careful. McCoires seemed notorious for accruing strange injuries after all. She could see they shook off her scarf. Emily saw it coming but still couldn't help the eye roll that followed. How on earth do they not freeze to death in those flimsy kilt layers?

Emily measured her work before running back to Kibō, holding up her knitting to the side of his face gently before giving a sheepish "Pardon me" look, and shuffling back to the fireplace to finish her work. Watching her efforts take shape, she was starting to get excited about it. She fixed a tiny bobble to the top - might as well have been a ball of fluff rubbed against a sock by the tiny size of it- and fiddled with the tassels at the end when the main bulk of her work was done.

"Eh-- Just-- Okay! There we go! All done!"

She shyly approached Kim and Kibō for whoever knows how many times it was now. She held a snake-sized green wooly hat in her hands, presenting it under Kim's eyes.

"I made this for Kibō... If he will accept it," her voice wavered timidly, though the smile pricking the sides of her mouth gave way the hopeful enthusiasm she had that this gift was worth it.

Liam came around to Colin's spot on the floor and stretched out next to Colin. The boys' projects clicked and clacked merrily. Liam snickered. "So Cail? Are ye still planning out the Important Talk we were going over?" Colin turned red. Liam had a way of taking over for Lily in the embarrass your brother department. Liam gave him that I know exactly what strings to pull smirk as he cast his glance upwards to check on Emily. Clearly he was hoping Emily would hear!

Colin looked up. Emily had gotten up to check on something. Colin jabbed Liam's ribs. "Will ye quit it?"

"Nope!"

"I--- What!? Emmi will hear, with you wagging yer gob that way!"

"Oh! I know, Cail! That's the whole point, innit?"

Colin's eyes narrowed. Liam was being such a prat!

The bean bag puffed out as Emily sat back down. Colin turned his head to the left. Emily had finished her project --- whatever it was! And he saw Kim and Kibō had arrived. Perfect timing! "You have room for one more?" Kim asked. "I can bribe you with a chocolate frog."

Colin sat up and leaned in to Emmi. He could feel Liam right behind him, looking over his shoulder. "Ayo Kim! Are ye going to join us? Ki --- Wait. Kibō! What's that on yer head!?" Colin laughed merrily. "Is that what Emmi made for ye? It's so wee! No wonder it didn't take long to make!" Colin gave Emily a broad smile. He pointed through the air a few feet. "I'm making a cosy kilt!"

"And I'm making a cosy blanket! See? It's a map of Hogwarts! With loads of secret places!" said Liam. "So! What are you going to make Kim?"

Nova blinked as Emily darted away mid-conversation, turquoise yarn already trailing behind her like a determined comet. Whatever idea had just struck the older Hufflepuff must’ve been important. Emily moved with the energy of someone on a mission. Nova watched her for a moment, bemused, before turning back to her own project. The little sun pattern was coming along nicely, and she smiled down at it.

Trixie, still in her bag, began to stir again, tiny eyes blinking up at her sleepily. Nova glanced down with a raise of her eyebrow, smiling lightly down at her. She shifted on her beanbag, sitting up more to make it easier for herself to continue her sun, Trixie took that as an invitation to pop out of her bag and clawed her way up to Nova's shoulder, chirping happily as she watched her crochet as though she intended to supervise every stitch.

Nova huffed a tiny laugh through her nose. “Very helpful,” she whispered, rolling her eyes affectionately. Trixie puffed out her tiny body in agreement. Emily, still a short distance away, was a blur of movement, running to and from some older boy, maybe year four, and measuring what seemed to be... a snake? She shuddered lightly in slight bewilderment. The snake seemed to be draped over the boy like a feathery boa.

Holding up her sun to see her progress, Nova nodded in satisfaction. She could already picture attaching a little loop on top, maybe hanging it by her bed with the star Avery had made for her. A tiny reminder to start personalizing her dorm bed more. She brushed her curls away, careful not to jostle Trixie, who had now taken to snuggling into Nova’s crossed legs like she owned the place. A small snort escaped Nova at the sight.

“You’re getting fur all over the yarn,” she scolded amusedly, flicking a stray tuft away. With the sun nearly complete, Nova threaded the last strand through and tugged it into place. It was adorable, basically the size of Trixie. She had definitely improved over the last few months or so. She put her things away, letting Trixie settle onto her shoulder as usual before standing up and heading for the door. This event had definitely been good for her, and she was glad she went.

Nova pushed through the doors and slipped out into the cold corridors, feeling lighter than when she went inside.
