Jean Bean ✧ First Year ✧ Ravenclaw

On top of Jean's head is a mop of short, dark hair that often falls into her brown eyes. But she likes it that way. She's lankey for her age. At 5' 1", she subconsciously rounds her shoulders when talking to her peers. Her style is boyish, inspired by the clothes of her older brother and fasion from the eighties: lots of graphic T's, big jackets and denim. She's creative and expresses that through her clothes: weird colour combinations and fun accessories. At times, however, she can come across as unkempt and unrefined. She looks like a young Winona Ryder.

Jeanny has had her head in the clouds ever since she was young. In nearly all situations, she struggles to focus. Her thoughts are most often occupied with her interests, including art and science fiction. Whenever inspiration strikes, she pulls a sketchbook out of her pocket and starts to draw. With 'whenever', I truly mean any and all times: even when her focus should really be on something else.

She stays true to herself, almost to a fault. Whenever someone ridicules her, they can become victim of her surprisingly short fuse. Jean's biggest goal is to be taken seriously, which is difficult with a name such as Jean Bean. Proving herself is important to her; she wants others to respect and admire her.

She idolises her brother, so she has taken on many of his quirks: including but not limited to his tastes in fashion and music, a critical view of authority, and showing love through pestering. He is her rock. So what happens when she has to leave his side for Hogwarts?

Jean was born in Salisbury, on the 10th of December, 2013. Crunching leaves was all Jean's mother, Emma, could hear on her trek through the garden to the awaiting car. The air was cold. The light of dawn helped Emma see her path. Her husband, Peter, had started the car to drive out the cold. Contractions had started an hour before and they were in a rush to get to the hospital.

The pregancy had been a dangerous one, as Emma was 38. But all turned out wondrously well. Jean had all ten fingers and all ten toes, as her dad always said. After Jean's birth, her parents reminded her again and again of this fact by calling her their 'wonder baby'. This nickname turned out awfully apt upon discovery of Jean's magic.

Jean's parents, Emma and Peter, met when they were just children. Both were class clowns. As time progressed, their relationship became more competitive: who was the funniest of the two? True rivals-turned-lovers, Emma and Peter married in 2005. Jean's parents always try to out-joke one another, which has made Jean leap to the opposite side of the coin: she desires to always be taken seriously. Sarcasm and scepticism took the high ground in her humour.

Jean has a brother, Dean, who is six years older than her. Yes, Dean and Jean Bean. Mr and Mrs Bean have a weird sense of humour. Dean and Jean are extremely close; she idolizes him. As a child, the two siblings would draw together. She strived to become as creative as Dean. Although his skills with a pencil are incredible, he does not have any magical powers.

Dean saw how much his sister looked up to him, but was afraid something would happen to her if he was not around. So he started testing her, trying to get a rise out of her so she would push back against him. When Jean was three, 9-year-old Dean would steal her spoon and wave it in front of her nose. When Jean was five, 11-year-old Dean would unexpectedly launch pillows at her face. When Jean was seven, 13-year old Dean would provoke her into wrestling with him in the garden. Although she would always be taken off guard when attacked, the girl learned how to evade the second pillow and even flip the tall teenager onto his back.

At primary school, Jean had a small group of close friends. Leaving them to come to Hogwarts had been a tearful affair. Loyalty is engrained into Jean, so she plans on keeping in close contact with her muggle friends although they can never know about her abilities. Because Jean has had the same friends her whole life, she is a little awkward around new people.

Jean could easily be provoked when pushing the right buttons.. At school, a classmate had once made fun of Jean for her name; "Jean Bean? Is your dad mister Bean?" Her vision turned red at the same rate that her face did. While the child was laughing - maniacly, in Jean's eyes - she pulled back her fist and put her full weight into a punch. A 'mean right hook' her brother had laughingly called it while patting her on the shoulder. On that day the whole school learnt Jeanny does not pull punches when challenged, although she is normally shy and sweet.
