ℬrookline frowned when Harvey decided to respond with a shrug. She could have huffed at the first year and walked away, yet, something, something peculiar made her stay. She brought her slender fingers to her matted braid, fidgeting with the brunette fly-a-ways.
Harvey then spoke again, agreeing with her statement of appreciation. Brookline nodded firmly, her hands falling from her plait to the table, where she would lay her palms flat, hiding the hideous mark, tucked under her sweater. She almost hid her vulnerable eyes, those blazing storms could not be trusted, yet, the tears burning at the corners of her eyes were not finished, and probably will never be.
Your father could use another lesson, Harvey's words echoed, pounding in her skull, over and over again, until she was fed up. The Ravenclaw wanted so bad to snap at this odd boy, to yell at him who her father and curse his family and his descendants twice more. Brookline hated this. She hated when those voices would manipulate her, to twist her onto their side, and ultimately her father's boundary, where she fought for her dad back for most of her life. Fighting this remarkable urge to freak out, to blow her top, on Harvey, Brookline shut her mouth. Biting her chapped lips, to keep from talking at all.
Brookline nodded again to Harvey, agreeing with him, when he added to Brookline's statement about the universe. She sighed, and kept her trap closed, since her ever-burning, denfensive flame for her father had not been squished, and she wished for a day when it could been scuffed.
Brookline gazed over to where her broom, laid across the lawn, and the very wood of the Nimbus screamed at her, the fierce longing to soar through the air with that broom again. She glanced up again when she heard Harvey's voice, and her eyebrows flew up at the mention of part-goblin. It wasn't all that surprising, yet, Brookline was still a bit stunned. She wasn't used to meeting half humans and part humans.
"That's... actually pretty cool. I don't think I've ever met a part-goblin in my life. Is one of the goblins at Gringotts your family?" Brookline asked, her curiosity buring. Despite the small thought that Harvey was probably just distracting her, she wnated to know more. Half-humans were cool, and she wished to know more.
"What are the other perks? Are they cool?" Annother question came to mind, and she almost could have smiled. She knew there were half-humans living upon her at Hogwarts, yet, she realized that most hid their nature well. Which, honestly, was disappointing. They were pretty cool!

@Brookline Quinn
Harvey's gaze would remain locked with Brookline's. Even though the girl had fiery tears lining her eyes he did not look away. He could tell that his statements about her father had struck a cord that only made her burn even brighter, but he was not deterred. The boy was small in stature and many would look to him as an easy target, a push over. However, they would underestimate his iron will. Harvey's stomach never turned and his spine was made of steel. He'd stare down the devil himself not out of courage, but determination to be the best.
With a blink however his expression would soften as his rationale caught up to him. There was no need to try and outmatch a potential ally while in such a vulnerable state. Though a half-breed the boy was still human and Harvey knew that the idea of abandonment came with painful emotions. Even though he thought her gut reaction to defend her father was misplaced, he did admire the strength that came with it. Brookline's temperament may be wild, but that could fuel greatness if harnessed correctly. His statement about the cruelty of the world was at least something they could find mutual ground and move forward.
Harvey's admission of his mixed heritage proved to be just what the conversation needed. A half smile would find his lips when she did not look to that fact with disdain, but rather appreciation. "My grandfather is full goblin and yes he does work for Gringotts. You won't find him behind the counter in the lobby though. No, you'd need a personal invite to be shown to his office." Harvey had no problem bragging about his family connections and he did not care who judged him for it. His grandfather held an executive position at the institution and that was not to be taken lightly. In his goblin culture it was your duty to achieve greatness and flaunting your accomplishments was a right.
"Oh, there are some innate talents that I hope to have inherited. Goblins are experts in wandless magic and their skill in smithing is second to none." These traits were not a guarantee for half-breeds, but the boy would know soon. Come his second or third year he would begin his training to cast without a wand. "In fact, I will begin my tutelage at the smithy soon. Maybe this summer." The idea of sweating away in a forge was not Harvey's idea of a good time, but the ability to create enchanted armor would provide a power that few could obtain. Time would tell if he was up to the task. "What about you, Brookline? Any fields of magic that you've shown an aptitude for?"
