The third year was leaving the castle during a fresh afternoon; snow still covered the place in big patches. However the approaching spring was slowly melting away the white blanket that was draped over all the plants, revealing areas of grass and mud all over the place. Paths of rock and pebble led away from the huge castle doors and Alan followed the one that he knew led to one of his favorite spots on the school's premises.

When he approached the stables, a grin tugged at his lips as he strayed away from the path and instead made his way up the hill that was pretty close to it. This was the perfect spot to just chill and do his homework. However for the day he was done with homework, since it was a nice friday afternoon and he had nothing else to do. He sat down, his back leaning against a tree. He was sitting in the snow, not really bothered by the cold as he could just take a warm shower in the castle later to warm up again.

Once he was settled and able to concentrate, he could hear the sound of nature, the rustling of hay and the occasional noise of a creature within the stables. It was a shame that he was not able to actually see them, but he also knew the reason behind it and understood why it was like that.

Every step Fyriel took, the crispy sound of snow breaking under her boots could be heard. The Hufflepuff was roaming around the stables today. As adventurous and curious as she was, she wanted to see which creatures where hidden there. She treaded slowly to try and make as less noise as she could. Hopefully nobody finds me here, I don’t think I’m allowed back here. A desperate, and for now failing, attempt at seeing the magical beasts inside the stables had caused Fyriel to give up on her quest for now. She wasn’t going to see any creatures today, they were too well secured to get any closer.

She looked around and didn’t recognize where exactly she was. The first year had been so focussed on trying to see the creatures, she hadn’t noticed how far she had walked off the path. At the bottom of a hill she stood still, took a deep breath of fresh, cold air and spotted a tree on top of the hill. Perhaps I could check out the view from up there and see what’s worth discovering around here. So Fyriel made her way up the hill. It wasn’t until she had reached the highest point that she discovered a boy sitting against the tree. He seemed to be a bit older than her and enjoying the peaceful scenery. She didn’t want to disturb him but when she silently turned around to go back to the stables, her foot stepped on a branch and it made the loudest snap. Hastily she turned her gaze at the boy to see if he had heard her.

The third year actually had no idea for how long he had been sitting there just silently, thousands of thoughts and ideas running through his head. His mind seemed to never be at peace, like an endless carousel thoughts would spin around in his head for a while, until eventually being swapped out for a new string of thoughts. Mostly it did not even make sense and the transition from one thought to the other could be seen as random, but for an onlooker he might as well just look peaceful, drowning in his own thoughts. His legs lightly crossed by his ankles, his head tipped back supported by the branch of a tree, as his gaze seemed to be staring lost into nothing.

Truly a peaceful scene, until he heard the sound of twigs snapping beneath someones's feet. Alan's head snapped up, pulled away roughly from his thoughts, the Gryffindor seemed in a bit of a daze, disoriented even as he tried to find the source of the sound. Once he found what he was looking for, his eyes widened in surprise when his gaze met with a girl with long hair that fell in dark, natural curls. She was not too far away as it seemed and Alan quickly pushed himself off the ground and walked over to said girl. Was she lost maybe? She seemed tall though, maybe a upper year? Then again Alan often assumed people to be older than him based on their height, only to find out they were actually younger.

"H-hi... u-uhm, a-are you lost?", he asked nervously, feeling a bit like a fool for even asking. What if she was indeed older and wanted to be left alone? He was just wondering since it was rare for others to walk up the hill; it was his secret place. A place he usually assumed not many students knew or appreciated, but maybe this was just his personal opinion... in the summer this place would look great, with flowers coverings spots in the meadow and a blue sky above.

“H-hi…u-uhm, a-are you lost?”, the stranger asked Fyriel. He heard me of course… What do I say? What did he say? Fyriel felt a bit disoriented from the sudden words the boy threw at her. She tried to relive the situation in her head. “Uh, hello! I’m maybe a bit lost yes. I was roaming around the stables and suddenly I was up here! Are you lost too?”, she directed to him.

Today the Hufflepuff wore her school attire. A black pleated skirt and a white button-up shirt with it. Above that a recognizable yellow and black tie and her plain black robes. Her black hair was in a braid today, at the end of the long thin braid was a small red ribbon to tie it off. As for the rest of her outfit, she never wore much jewellery or such, except for a silver necklace she received as a gift from her sister Olivia. On the silver chain was a small silver pendant with rhinestones, in the shape of the letter ‘O’. Her younger sister had one too, but hers had the letter ‘F’. They gave them to each other before Fyriel left to Hogwarts, so they would always be together even if there were many miles between them.

Fyriel looked around the top of the hill. It was a very serene scene. A big tree lightly moving in the wind. The sounds of nature were all around. Birds whistled to each other. Although it was cold and there were patches of snow spread over the hill, a ray of sunlight beamed through the clouds. The sunlight shone on the snowy grass and reflected on the students. It made Fyriel feel like it was already summer. She couldn’t wait for the days to grow longer and brighter. She loved summer. She could stay up late to go for evening strolls, when she woke up early she could enjoy a blissful morning in the warmth. The best thing about summer for her was hanging out with friends and enjoying each other’s company. However Fyriel hadn’t made any friends yet in Hogwarts. Hopefully by the time summer arrives, that would have changed. She also could not wait to reunite with her sister, mum and dad.

Alan shook his head in answer to the girl, who's hair fell down in a long braid, which made Alan wonder how much time it took her to make that hair. Meanwhile his hair was unkempt and the wind had been pulling at his hair, leaving it in a stylish mess. He usually did not bother to comb it, as it would never look nicely for long from all the running and spending time outside of the castle; nature was ruthless like that.

"No no... I'm not, not at all... I just like it up here; ...kinda peaceful", he explained as he offered the girl a nervous smile, wondering whether she could relate to that or not. Not that the answer to that question bothered him personally, but his head was always full of questions. "Do you want me to show you the way back to the castle? Or were you looking for something specific?", he wondered, facing the Hufflepuff. Her house was clear, as she was wearing her uniform at the moment. Alan was wearing his causal clothes, a red sweater draped over a white button up shirt and black slacks and a Gryffindor scarf, that he had wrapped around his neck loosely. His sweater looked a little over-sized, but rather comfy nonetheless and it kept him warm even in this weather so Alan couldn't complain about it at all. He was just waiting for the girl to reply now, wanting to give her a chance to answer his questions before he began to ramble away.

The strange boy replied he wasn’t lost at all. At least one of us knows where they are then. “Oh yes, it looks very harmonious, like a good place to de-stress and unwind after a long school day. Fyriel mimicked the boy who gave her a nervous smile. He asked her if she needed a guide to the castle or somewhere else. Hmm, I’m not sure I can tell him I was trying to see inside the stables. He might tell the prefects of one of the professors.. “Actually, I was just having a stroll and got disoriented. I’d like it if you could walk me back to the castle? Unless.. You know any more hidden places like this that I could see?”, She spoke to the boy in a curious tone. “I like having a few spots to read by myself without numerous students disturbing my concentration…”

Fyriel felt a low rumble in her stomach. Although it had just been after lunchtime, the Hufflepuff girl had once more been too busy exploring and adventuring to eat, she simply forgot sometimes. She usually had her head stuck in a cloud and forgot daily things like eating, studying or even interacting with fellow house members. With her hand she absently rubbed her abdomen without realising. As she waited for the boy to answer, it crossed her mind that she hadn’t introduced herself to him. And neither had the Gryffindor for that matter. Not wanting to be rude, she decided not to pile all her questions on him for now and left it like that.

The third year chuckled slightly at that, nodding at her words. He could only agree with her on this; the place was pretty nice and he loved spending time here. "I-Ironically I actually found this place by coincidence as well... not that I got lost, not really at least... b-but I just found it and loved being here ever since!", he explained to the other girl.

He would take a deep breath and shake his head, "This is my favorite spot, but I am sure you would be able to calm down skipping stones at the Great Lake... I also h-heard that the Courtyard is supposed to look pretty; but I only ever quickly walked through there as a shortcut to class-", he stopped, shaking his head as he tried to get back to the point," Well but I am sure it will be pretty and quiet there too" A cheeky, yet nervous smile found its way onto his face, when he heard her stomach growl. "Hungry? I guess I could show you how to get back to the castle?", he asked, trying to offer his help, as he slightly stumbled over his words like usually. Not that it affected his speech too much at this point, but it was obvious enough, if you actually paid attention to his speech pattern.

With a light smile he would start walking down the hill, glancing towards her, as if he was waiting for her to follow him. "What is your name, if you don't mind me calling you by it?", he would ask the girl politely.

A light embarrassing feeling flooded Fyriel as her cheeks grew a red blush. She sheepishly smiled to try and hide it. “Yes, the castle sounds great. I haven’t had lunch yet so I should get back before I faint or something”, she joked. Fyriel continued her revelation: “I have been down at the Lake, it’s very nice indeed, I’m just not a big fan of water so it’s not the most relaxing spot for me. The Courtyard on the other hand I haven’t discovered yet, I will definitely explore it on a free day.”

After the Gryffindor suggested to walk Fyriel back to the Castle and she happily accepted his offer, the boy asked for her name. “I don’t mind at all. I probably should’ve started with introducing myself. My name Is Fyriel Starlingword. I haven’t been at Hogwarts very long, it’s my first year here. And you? What’s your name? Are you a first-year too?”, Fyriel quizzed the boy as they started their path towards the school. Fyriel caught herself throwing her questions at the boy, all at once. Give him some time to think Fy! Silently, she took a breath and calmed her nerves. It always gave her jitters when she had to talk to people. Animals are so much easier… They don’t judge, you don’t even have to be scared of what they will say to you, because they won’t say anything at all. Her mind wandered back to the family farm at home. She tried her best to stay in the present but as expected, she lost her focus and couldn’t help but fantasize about her family. I wonder what Olivia is doing right now? Maybe she’s learning to do all my chores now I’m not there to help dad. Nah, she is likely to be going through my closet and discovering everything she can in my room, before mum busts that is.. And so her thoughts roamed further…

The Gryffindor smiled at the girl, seeming a bit shy or anxious maybe, which however was just the expression that was normal to him. "I can only recommend to check the courtyard out, it seems like a very nice place to visit", he mentioned with a nod, rubbing his neck in slight nervousness.

When he was asked, whether he was a first year, his face lit up, as a red blush tinted his whole face in a light shade of red, as he shook his head wildly; the blush reaching even the tips of his ears. "Nonononono!", he stammered quickly, as he pulled up the scarf around his neck, to cover the lower half of his face. "Im a third year and m-my name is Alan...", he explained quickly, stumbling over his words as he spoke. Did he really look like a first year? He surely looked younger than the other people in his class, but a first year? Alan was a little embarrassed at that, but not offended.

Both of them were walking slowly towards the castle, over the path that connected the castle with the stables; which they had stepped on as soon as they had walked down the hill. It was not so complicated to find once one remembered the spot and Alan had been there a lot; he could probably find this very spot in his sleep.
