“ugh” Maddy tossed around on her bed. She just couldn’t sleep. Her mind just was filled in many thoughts, some she didn’t even know where they came from. Just unreasonable thoughts.

She wasn’t planning on sneaking away, but the dorm felt too small, too tight. She looked over at her dorm mates, all of them were fast asleep, or so she thought.

Anyways, Maddy grabbed her wand in one hand, pulled on a hoodie and slipped out of the dorm. She had managed to grab the curiosity of one of her dormmates, but she didn’t realized that as she slowly left the common room too.

It was quiet in the corridors, seeing as it was late in the night. Hopefully no prefect was on duty, she was not in the mood to get detention today, it would distract her but she wanted her first detention to be memorable or actually just not to get caught would be better, and iconic.

A few days ago, she’d gotten hopelessly lost on her way to Charms and while panicking and turning the wrong corner (three times), she’d stumbled upon a dusty, forgotten classroom between two corridors that students rarely used. The door had been half-stuck, the room half-lit, and something about it felt like a secret meant only for her.

Tonight, she would spend there. As she entered to classroom. Somewhere down the corridor footsteps shuffled and a door clicked.

Someone else was out of their dorm, and maybe not just one. Unaware to Maddy she was about to meet her people, her escape.

– HUFFLEPUFF GIRLS’ DORMITORY → SECOND-FLOOR ABANDONED CLASSROOM –

Lily was wide awake. She had been sleeping in her bed since after her classes as she had an headache. Now, she couldn't just call asleep.

Suddenly, she heard, "ugh". Lily heard someone twist and turn in their bed. Were bed bugs biting them? She didn't know.

She saw a silhouette in the dark, standing up and trying to stay as quiet as possible. "Who is it? Why are they wandering in the dark?", Lily thought. Then, in a split second, Lily decided to follow the person. It seemed like she was up to something.

She got up from her bed, trying her best to keep quiet. Then, putting in her slippers and cloak, she slipped in behind the girl.

Just in time. The girl had looked behind, maybe to make sure no one was following her. In that moment she saw it was Maddy. "Maddy?", she whispered. What was she doing here?

She crept up behind Maddy. Tapping her on the shoulder, Lily asked, "Maddy? What are you doing here? You are supposed to be sleeping right now.". She watched Maddy's face drain off color. Had she been a bit too much? She herself didn't know that. She sometimes was too honest and straight forward.

"My bad. Sorry for scaring you out of your mind. But still, what are you doing our of bed right now?", she asked once again, seeing that she hadn't replied.

Maddy still said nothing, only motioned Lily to come with her. She followed Maddy out of the corridor. Was this going to be another adventure? Only time would tell....

HUFFLEPUFF COMMON ROOM - SECOND-FLOOR ABANDONED CLASSROOM

Italics = thoughts

Isabella was sitting on a couch (I assume we have those) reading one of her books. It was a muggle book, called, "Chaos in the Midnight Palace" number 3 in the series! She was so happy that it had come out before she left for Hogwarts.

She was so deep into her book, that she almost didn't notice the sounds. Almost. Bella looked around, and thought that she heard the sound of footsteps. Then a word. A whispered word. She looked around. And there they were.

Two people. Sneaking around in the dead of night. Well, maybe not the dead of night. Bella didn't know what time it was, however, she did want to know what these two were up to.

She stood up to follow them, which was probably a bad choice because she really didn't want to get in trouble for wandering in the corridors at night. She sighed. Let's do this.

Isabella walked along the middle of the common room because the two people that she was following had already left the room. She walked out into the hallway and looked around for them.

Then, she spotted them. Bella picked up her pace slightly, walking close to the walls, and occasionally hopping across patches of moonlight that scattered the ground.

And then, her face had a curious expression upon it. What were those two doing?

Seven Paths, One Room PV GROUP
– GRYFFINDOR COMMON ROOM → SECOND-FLOOR ABANDONED CLASSROOM –

I hadn’t slept and dozing atop my parchment didn't count. I’d been sitting in the Gryffindor common room for what felt like forever, trying to finish my blasted Charms homework. The fire in the hearth had now faded into a dull glow and my handwriting, well that had faded ages ago, my lines now crooked and looking more like chicken scratch than actual words, and without the notes, which I had been daft enough to leave in the study room, I was mostly guessing at what I was supposed to be writing.

I finally let out a long, tired breath and pushed my books away. "I need those darn notes otherwise I won't be finishing anything tonight." And if I didn’t finish anything tonight… well, I didn’t want to think about that.

So I did the one thing I knew I wasn't supposed to, I packed up my things as quietly as I could, grabbed my cloak and slipped out through the portrait hole.

The corridor outside was freezing and far too quiet. I paused, listening hard for footsteps. Nothing. Which somehow made me feel even more nervous.

I kept to the wall as I walked, trying to keep my profile as small as possible. Breaking curfew wasn’t exactly the top of my to-do list, but here I was anyway, hoping the castle wouldn’t rat me out by echoing my steps down every hallway.

I tried to find my way back to the study room, but I've managed to get lost even during the day so I wasn't surprised when the corridors stopped making sense. I couldn’t tell if I was turning in circles or if the castle was quietly shifting things around just to mess with me. Knowing Hogwarts, it was probably both.

Great job, Cane,” I muttered to myself.

I was just rounding another corner, when I suddenly caught a glimpse of what was maybe a thin strip of warm light spilling across the stone floor. I froze, my eyes shifting erratically trying to find where it was coming from. There, a cracked classroom door. At this hour, that was… not good!

I slowed down immediately, heart thumping so hard it felt like drums in my ears. If it was a prefect, I was doomed. If it was a teacher, I was double doomed.

Even knowing what curiosity did to the cat, I still couldn't help myself. Common sense, hello, common sense...nope, he'd checked out for the night. So I crept closer, staying half in the shadows as I leaned just enough to see inside.

Well, it seemed I wasn't the only one with extra un-sanctioned, very detention worthy curricular activities.

Suppose I should say hi then.

Joseph blinked awake. He tried sitting up, then realised he already was. His lips twitched as he glanced around. No lavish beds. No snoring boys. No comfy feather pillow for his head. He wasn't in the Boys' Dorm.

He'd fallen asleep in the common room.

Joseph groaned, fumbling around for Astra. There she was. Nestled snug on his lap. Gazing up at him, probably thoroughly confused about the world. She’d always enjoyed her fixed daily schedule; breaking it must have been disconcerting for her.

The common room was cool but cosy, the smell of dusty old books hanging in the air. He reclined into his soft armchair, letting a sigh slip past his lips. Joseph was safe. Astra was safe. The sky wasn't falling. Everything was fine.

Then he heard it. Muffled footsteps echoed through the quiet chamber, followed by hushed whispers. Joseph froze, tightening his grip on Astra. Someone was up and awake, prowling around in the dark. No, not just someone. Multiple people.

He shrunk into his armchair as the sneaking figures crept past, holding his breath. He risked a peek over the chair’s arm. The rule-breakers hadn’t noticed him, as they squeezed out of the common room’s barrel entrance.

Then they were gone. Joseph was alone again.

He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “That was wild,” he muttered, grinning down at his pet rock. Maybe he imagined it, but Astra seemed to nudge at his belly.

“What?” he asked, sitting up straighter. He was wide awake now, his heart still hammering like it was auditioning to escape his chest. No point trying to go back to sleep now. “You want me to follow them?”

Astra stayed silent, which Joseph took to be a ‘yes’. He suppressed a chuckle. “You’re crazy, ya know that?” he said, stretching as he rose to his feet. Stealth mode on. Ninja Joseph mode on.

Today’s mission: track down a bunch of rule-breakers. Child’s play.

He sank into a dramatic ninja pose, then realised his knees were too stiff for this nonsense. Whatever. Real ninjas probably creaked too.

Astra stared up at him with that cute, blank rock-expression, like Please, Joseph, get a grip.

“Too late,” he whispered, tiptoeing to the barrel. “Grip already lost.” He peeked through the gap through which the rule-breakers vanished. The corridor beyond was dim, empty and far creepier than he’d remembered. Shadows stretched across the walls, twisting around the corners as though laughing at him. Joseph pouted.

“Watch out, rulebreakers,” he said. “Ninja Joseph is on the hunt now.”

He found the late-night sneakers with relative ease, which Joseph credited to his incredible grace. Obviously. He had to be the stealthiest boy in the country.

The candle-lights flickered, giving Joseph a brief glimpse of the rule-breakers. Two girls. Probably first or second years, by their height. Heading towards an abandoned classroom. He smirked, creeping forward with cat-like finesse. Each step landed with the softness of a falling textbook.

Thud.
Thud.
Thud.

Astra did not comment. Respect.

The girls disappeared into the classroom, before the lights flashed on. Then another figure stepped out of the shadows, cloaked. Joseph bit back a gasp. What was going on? A secret gathering? Or were they another stalking ninja lurking around? Clearly there was more going on than meets the eye.

Joseph's night was about to get a whole lot more interesting.

Altheas thoughts

Althea could hear the rain pounding outside. She was having a hard time trying to fall asleep as she was feeling extremely homesick. When she was younger, whenever she could not sleep, her mum would sing her songs by their fireplace to help calm her down. She wished more than anything her mum was here right now. Maybe I'll go for a quick walk. She stood up quietly from her bed careful not to wake any of the other girls up. She knew that walking around the castle after curfew could result in major consequences but to be honest, that was the least of her worries at the moment.

She made her way out of the dormitory and through the common room before emerging into the wine celler. Where should I go? Suddenly she had remembered seeing a small room full of plants earlier while exploring the castle and decided to make her way there. She did have one problem though, as she was walking through the twisting corriders she could not remember where she had found it. Oh No. She looked around hoping to spot something familiar but there was nothing. Suddenly just as she was beginning to panic, she heard something. Soft laughter in the distance which seemed to be coming out of a classroom. Althea began to worry Who's there? Why would the professors be awake at such hours? The she realized the laughter sounded like students. Wait, why are they not in bed? Maybe they also couldn't sleep. Her curiosity got the best of her and she slowly walked towards the noise.

She peered through a small crack in the door and saw a group of young students gathered together. I wonder if I should investigate. Just as she was about to chicken out and head back to her dorm, she heard another noise coming from behind her in the hall. Worried she was going to get caught, she slipped into the classroom and closed the door behind her. What she didn't know however, was that decision would forever change her life

– RAVENCLAW GIRLS’ DORMITORY → SECOND-FLOOR ABANDONED CLASSROOM –
Natasha lay tossing and turning on her bed, staring around the room, trying to fall asleep. She groaned and sat up as another burst of hot air came in through the window. If I told anyone i was feeling HOT in the middle of winter, they'd think I've grown crazy, she thought to herself, a small smile on her face.
There's no way I'm falling asleep tonight she sighed, and got off her bed, deciding to go down to the common room, and scribble lyrics in her notebook. She felt around her bedside table, and gasped. Moving closer towards it, she started rummaging through the drawers, looking for her VERY precious notebook.
Suddenly, she realized where she'd left it, and a sinking feeling washed through her. Without wasting time, she hurried down the stairs, reached the portrait hole, and pulled it open slowly, making as little noise as possible.
She had found a mostly abandoned classroom on the second floor during her first week, while she was looking for the Charms classroom. Since then, she'd been going there quite regularly, second only to the library, whenever she wanted to relax, or scribble ideas and lyrics into her notebook. Today, she had been sitting there for a long time, and had to rush out when she realized she was late for class. That HAD to be where she left it.
She slinked down the corridors, hiding in the shadows as she went towards the classroom, hoping she wouldn't get caught. Then Again, I am THE Natasha Jones, the only person who was managed to successfully sneak into Pearwoods Elementary Academy, and NOT get caught, she thought, grinning at the memory.
As she neared towards the classroom, she realized it was open by a sliver of a crack, and she heard hushed voices inside. She debated whether to risk entering, but decided that the chance of a midnight prefect meeting was highly unlikely, and pushed the door open.
She stared at the 6 faces in the room, who were staring right back at her. They all looked to be about first or second years, all unfamiliar faces, except "Cane?"

“Oh— Merlin’s socks.”
Maddy froze when the door swung open again… and again… and again. One by one, faces she recognized and also some she didn’t, blinked back at her like she’d accidentally summoned them.
She pressed a hand over her racing heart.
“…okay, apparently I’m not the only person being a night owl in the castle.”

Maddy blinked at the SIX people now staring back at her.
“Holy— okay, plot twist. I thought this was gonna be my ‘quiet emotional breakdown in an abandoned room’ moment, but apparently it’s turning into Hogwarts unexpected sleepover.”
She pointed at each person.
“You, you, you, you, you… and YOU— how are all of you also out past curfew?”
She looked down at herself than sheepishly looked up, “Well maybe I don’t have the right to answer that right?”
Lily had somehow joined her right as she left out of the common room, although she thought she didn’t woke anyone up. Maddy had quietly asked Lily to follow her but now six people.
This will either be something super fun or something super disastrous, either way this is going to be a spectacular adventure.
Then she sighed, smiled, and gave up on pretending this wasn’t happening.
“Well… since we’re all illegally awake anyway— welcome to ‘our’ hideout. Since we all came here like this was destiny or something?”
She laughed at that thought of hers than clasping her hands together she said, “No snacks, no rules, and if a something goes wrong and someone shows up, we blame Peeves and bolt. Cool?”

Yep, definitely a night Maddy didn’t planned but also definitely one of the best plans Nature gave her tonight.

“Oh, something's gonna go wrong now..” Lily thought. A moment later, she thought "What the hell is happening?" And then, “Oh— Merlin’s socks.”, she heard Maddy say. Oh, it was sometimes scary that they both had the same wavelength. She would usually think about stuff, and Maddy would voice them out loud.

She knew how some people might have joined Maddy. She herself had sneaked up behind her and almost given her a heart attack. Isabella had joined them since she heard both of them sneaking out of the dorm. Althea was trying to sneak up on them, but Lily had seen her through the corners of her eyes. She had kept quiet though, not wanting to scare anyone else. Joseph had been sleeping while they were sneaking, but now, Lily suspected that he was not really sleeping, rather, spying on them. There was a boy standing next to Joseph. Had he too been spying on them or following them? That was a mystery for another night though. That left a girl beside Althea. Oh, yeah. Lily guessed that she was probably having a walk; she was a mysterious sort of girl.

“Well… since we’re all illegally awake anyway— welcome to ‘our’ hideout. Since we all came here like this was destiny or something?”, Lily woke up from her thoughts as Maddy started a conversation. “No snacks, no rules, and if something goes wrong and someone shows up, we blame Peeves and bolt. Cool?”, Maddy said. Lily chuckled. That was Maddy. She always had a way of making everyone laugh. She immediately noticed that the atmosphere was quite light now, and all the people, especially the first-years, were less tense.

Seven Paths, One Room PV GROUP
Isabella listened to one of the kids, another first year, speaking. She might have recognized her from the feast, when she got sorted. Sounded about right, seeing as they were both Hufflepuffs. Then she heard something that sounded like, "No snacks". No snacks? This was terrible, for Bella loved to read and snack, but it was a smart choice because it would be messy, and other people outside of the room would know that someone had been in there. So all in all, a great idea.

Isabella wondered if anyone else in the room liked to read. Hopefully, yes, for she really loved to read books, magical and muggle.

Bella couldn't help but notice that most of this little unexpected group was made up of Hufflepuffs. And, there was also only one non-first-year. A second year, so not very far from their age. Coincidentally, that person was another Hufflepuff!

Bella recognized Madeline, Lily, Althea, and Joseph all from the Hufflepuff Common room. Thank goodness! She walked further into the room, with everyone standing around. Hmm, what could everyone have been doing on this night?

For the Hufflepuffs, following one another. What about everyone else? Who should she talk to? Bella walked over to someone. A Gryffindor someone. "Hi, I'm Isabella. Who are you?" Then, bravely, she spoke loudly, "We should have a name, if we're going to be some sort of group!"
