The Bite of Citric Acid
The sound of her quill scribbling away could be heard throughout the room as she sat alone, pouring over her parchment. She occasionally stopped to reread something before continuing. When Erik asked her at breakfast if he could hang out with her later in the day, the fact that today was, in fact, Friday, February 14th, did not cross her mind. Valentine’s day did not pass the young Slytherin’s thoughts. She was oblivious to such a holiday beside the fact that students were pairing off and being particularly close to one another today, which just made her navigation through the halls much more annoying.
She told Erik that after classes, she had to get one of her articles for the Headliner finished, but he was welcome to find her in this classroom later in the afternoon. She wanted peace to be able to write, which usually meant she would go to the Headliner breakroom to write. That path had been blocked off by older students who didn’t look like they planned on vacating their space in front of the door anytime soon and certainly not for a first-year. She felt sorry for them if Alexx needed to get in there. This meant that she had lost some writing time before breakfast, but this afternoon was making up for it nicely.
So here she was, dressed in typical school attire, her long raven hair done back in a French braid working away. She was almost done, which was good because as soon as she was done writing, she would need to start editing other peoples’ articles for the Headliner. No doubt she could get her article turned in today and collect the ones that she needed to go over and start working on them tonight. When Erik did manage to make his way to the classroom today, he would notice, if he hadn’t before, that her regular porcelain fine skin was paler almost sickly. It would remind him of how he looked around the full moon. Her sharp sapphire eyes were duller in color, and he would know that she had been pulling away from him. Speaking in shorter sentences and regularly finding excuses not to hang out. The fact that she agreed to spend some time now might have come as a bit of a surprise.
He would have Dale to thank for that; it was Dale who helped her through one of her emotional explosions. One of the reasons why she was wearing the fingerless gloves was because of that day and the days before when the tree did more damage to her knuckles than she did to it. She assumed Erik would be coming to demand an apology for her behavior, and he was most certainly owed one, and she knew it. She sighed softly to herself as she continued to finish up her article.
