Okay. It was official. Jrue finally was going to admit it. She was lost. She'd spent too long in her Charms class, and couldn't follow the crowd of students to the Great Hall for lunch. So now she was lost. The staircase was just so big and scary, and the halls, oh, don't get her started on the halls. They all looked the same, suits of armor on a pedestal next to looming pictures of scary women from the 1400s. The pictures of the scary men were no better, but the women stood out to her particularly.
Sure they were scary, but they were pretty, and sometimes fun to chat to if you weren't shining a light in their eyes or causing a ruckus in the hallway. They were not, however, particularly fantastic at giving directions.
So here she was, her feet sore, wandering down an eerily quiet hallway. All by herself. Someone passed her what felt like 46 minutes ago, but only ended up being 8 minutes ago, and she got distracted talking to one of the paintings... So really it was her fault for being lost... Or maybe it was her professors.
' ' They had really ought to put a map in here... or a sign... or something...' ' She bit her thumbnail, gazing around a corner that led to nothing but locked doors and a dead end. ' ' Great. What's my tombstone gonna say, 'Jrue Peterson: Sweet girl. Died looking for the school lunch room.' How. EMBARASSING. I would never, ever recover.' ' There was a beat as she stared at the floor. ' ' Well, duh, Jrue. You'd be dead...' ' She furrowed her brows, and shook her head. Now she was talking to herself. She was surely, surely going crazy.

The extravagant beauty of Hogwarts was everywhere, from the charm you'd see in an old piece of art to the carefully crafted puzzles that could send you on a treasure hunt for hours throughout the clearly sentient castle. Of course it was alive, how could it not be? Sure, maybe it didn't have lungs to breathe or blood pumping through its walls, but Arthur was sure it had a heart. However, literally or figuratively, he neither knew nor cared, because the thrill of the chase had consumed his thoughts for what felt like days. At least, ever since he had discovered that cunningly composed symphony by the constantly conducting baton, leading a group of randomly selected instruments in a haunting, lullaby-like tune.
When he first heard the music, it almost brought tears to his eyes, as it was his dearly departed father's favorite tune. Although a faulty note had sent him on a quest to find out the mystery of a painting of bluebells (which fits into the chaos somehow), so that he might figure out the exact location of the Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Alan Poe, so, in the end, he may finally discover the location of Hogwarts' figurative (or literal) heart. That, again, may or may not exist.
As you can see, Arthur's thoughts were consumed as he raced through the halls. So, it couldn't be entirely his fault when he crashed into a girl, sending them both toppling to the marble floors.
He sat up, slightly dizzy as he realized his situation. Eyes widening, he turned to see his victim splayed out on the floor next to him. "Oh my goodness! Are you alright?" He cried.

' ' Now what was that, the 38th door? 35th? I reckon I skipped a number...' ' Jrue dropped her shoulders, burying her face in her hands. She raked her fingers through her hair, puffing her cheeks out and blowing out hard. It was fine. It was gonna be fine. She wasn't gonna throw a tantrum because she lost her way in the halls. She was going to find her way out, and it'd be fine. Totally fine!
Her chest felt all pinchy like it did on the Hogwarts express her first day of school. When she was scared, but hopeful, and excited, but dreadful. And she was none of those. just completely and utterly peeved. She reached her hands up to her cherubic cheeks, using her fingertips to gently rub her eyes before she continued-
Until she was suddenly and surprisingly plowed into by a mysterious object. Letting out a shriek, she fell backwards and into a suit of armor, who promptly caught her by the shoulders and set her on the ground. With every incident that happened, she let out a childlike squeal, hands clasped to her face in horror. When she had finally landed on the ground, she heard a voice, belonging to someone no older than her. Maybe it was a goblin, or a.. a... she had no clue. A terrible monster, Jrue was sure. She pried her hands off of her eyes, and was shocked to see a boy with a panic stricken expression plastered over his visage. ' ' Oh my goodness! Are you alright? ' '
Jrue's eyebrows had positioned themselves in a concerned arch, and she looked around, dazed and confused. In front of her was a boy just hardly taller than her, messy hair atop his head with nerdy, circular glasses perched atop his nose. ' ' Wel- ugh. I'm not dead, you eejit. ' ' She scrunched her nose, shaking her head. She brushed her fingers through her hair again, tucking her knees underneath herself to stand up. ' ' Clearly your glasses don't work if you couldn't see me standing in the middle of the hallway- ' ' She shook her head, stifling laughter. She swept her scrolls into a pile, sighing.

“I’m so sorry.” Arthur apologized, embarrassed. Crouching down in front of the girl, he helped collect her fallen belongings. Once they were finished, he stood up, wiping his hands on his sweater nervously. “I’m so, SO incredibly sorry.” He looked down at the scuff marks on his sneakers, absentmindedly averting the girls gaze as his mind drifted somewhere else. When he was younger he could remember playing with his cousin, Alice. She was always fast moving, running wherever and knocking him down more times he could count. Oh, how he missed Alice and her strawberry blonde curls and piercing grey eyes. This girl, though not Alice, reminded him faintly of being home. He let his eyes meet her face as he studied her features. Pale skin, thin nose, and pretty, expressive eyes. Her hair was shiny, and she herself seemed to be just a little bit shorter than him. Arthur readjusted his classes, realizing he was staring and starting the cycle of embarrassment all over again. “Sorry, uh, you remind me of someone.” He paused, “Are you lost?” He didn’t often see students without a friend or two around, it was always safer to travel in packs at Hogwarts.

Jrue rolled her eyes, brushing non existant dust off of her gray dress pants. She was still in her school uniform, unable to make it out of the labyrinth of halls. She'd be in her cozy sweater and sweatpants if it weren't for... ugh. She better stop thinking about it or else she might end up losing her mind. ' ' It doesn't matter, you're fine. ' ' She shook her head, grabbing the scrolls and shaking her head. She looked at her classmate and sighed softly. ' ' I said you're fine, bug. No reason to keep saying it, I'm pretty sure I said you're fine already. ' ' She smiled at him.
This kid was pretty funny looking, if she had to be honest. Kind of like a silly buggy eyed... clown? Not a clown, that was too mean. More like a... a... yeah, no, clown fit the description perfectly well. ' ' It's not like you just killed me, Griffy. ' ' She laughed. He stared at her for just a bit too long, and she looked down at the stone floor. Her human bumper car was wearing scuffed up sneakers, how like an eleven year old boy. ' ' Ahem.. ' '
Once her attempted murderer had snapped back into it, Jrue grabbed her scrolls and quills and stuffed them into the bag she had over her left shoulder. ' ' Yeah, I get that alot. Being a straight haired brunette with no particularly interesting features does that to someone. ' ' She tilted her head and raised her eyebrows. ' ' Yeah, I reckon I'm lost... ' ' She bit her cheek. Ugh. She's said that too much lately, I reckon. Awfully nerdy and repetitive. Thanks to her father and his six word vocabulary.
' ' Lost track of time, I guess. Not like I needed to be somewhere urgently. But I am getting awfully hungry... ' ' She nodded her head a bit, blinking her eyes at him. ' ' Got any currants? I like those pretty swell....' ' It was true, she did. Back at her family's nearly six acres of land, currant plants were everywhere. They were her favorite. When it was hot outside, but not too sunny, she'd pick currants and feed them to her budgies. They particularly liked the white ones that grew on the north of the pasture.
' ' If not, it's okay. I'll just like, starve or something instead. It's not like you plowed into me or anything- ' ' She pushed the toe of her shoe into the ground and spun herself around to sadly walk away, creating a dramatic effect to hopefully get the kid in front of her to give her food. Something, ANYTHING.

The girl acted like a clown, no doubt about it, with big gestures and a mouth that went a mile a minute. Arthur couldn't help but smile; somehow, somewhere, someone was looking out for him and sent this girl, so similar in demeanor to his cousin, to remind him of home.
"If not, it's okay. I'll just like, starve or something instead. It's not like you plowed into me or anything-" she cut herself off, pivoting sharply in a dramatic display of manipulation. He laughed softly to himself, running a hand through his auburn hair as he began walking beside her. "I don't have anything on me now, but I could walk you to the dining hall," Arthur paused at a sad attempt for dramatic flair, "unless you'd like to find it yourself."

She completed her action of dramatic flair, turning around to face him and seeing him smile at her, a face of curiousity, and nostalgia resting softly in his eyes. She crossed her arms, scrunching her eyebrows at him. "What, is this amusing to you?" She took a great breath, exhaling loudly and shaking her head.
Ugh. Of course he didn't have anything on him. Jrue layed her hands down in front of her, fingers intertwined. An escort to the hall didn't sound too bad, she guessed. But did he know the hall any better then her? He was a first year after all, hopefully his knowledge of the building was better than hers. Building, more like a castle.
"I guess you could. It's the least you could do.." She stuck her tongue out, smiling down at the ground after turning away from him. "Lead the way good sir-" She gestured to the hall, crossing her arms again.
"What were you doing wandering the halls? I think you passed me earlier... Someone did... I think. I've been totally in my own bubble, haven't even seen the time in forever..." She exhaled. Did she hold her breath? Speak through an entire breath and not pause even for a moment? This was so embarrassing. So... demeaning of her.
Or was it demeaning of him? "I'm Jrue, by the way. First year, Hufflepuff..." She pursed her lips again, tilting her head back and forth as she crossed her arms yet again.
