Staring into the mirror is something a lot of teenagers tend to do. Not that Jrue was a teenager yet, but growing up was scary. She was aware of that from a very early age. The first time she lost a tooth she was screaming and crying.
' ' I don't wanna lose it! I don't wanna give it up! I'm scared, father! ' 'She let that silly little tooth dangle for days. When it finally came out, it basically jumped out of her mouth while she was watching the sheep in her families field.
But now here she stood. With a full set of teeth and a whole new world ahead. Hogwarts was looking pretty scary, but at least she was here. She brushed her hair out of her face, peering into the glass case that stood in front of her. Rows upon rows of trophies and medals and achievements, little notes and marks of achievement left by students of the past. They didn't feel like mementos of history, more like ghosts of the past too stuck in the moment to move on.
Newspaper clippings and enchanted photos were hung by some of the trophies. Charmed to loop forever the stories behind each sparkling award. She bit the inside of her cheek, names of witches and wizards of academic excellence filling her thoughts.
And then she saw it, tucked into the corner of a small shelf; Clara Mcnamarie. ' ' Mother..! ' ' Her name was on a tiny silver cup, with a news paper clipping she couldn't read tucked underneath it. Herbology Club plant discovery... ' ' Well purity.. my own mom!' ' She said to herself, smiling. ' ' Oh! Where's grandfather's-' ' Jrue turned around, looking for the dueling shelf. And there he was
A framed picture of her grandfather and the dueling team was beside a golden chalice. She gazed into it, her reflection shimmering back at her. Her nose, just like her mothers. Her eyes, speckled like her fathers. A perfect meld and combination of the two. A tapestry of history and generational differences. She inhaled a soft breath through her nose, smiling.
She had some big shoes to fill.
