Hogwarts was as noisy as ever, with dozens of students moving in different directions. Everyone was rushing somewhere, everyone was busy with something. But he had absolutely no reason to hurry. It just so happened that he didn't have a class right now, and there was still plenty of time before the next one. That's why he decided to take a walk through the corridors of Hogwarts, though he hoped it would be quieter and calmer here. However, it was probably not going to last long, as all these students were now going to class, so it would soon become quiet here. For now, he watched with interest as a frightened group of first-years tried to stick together so as not to get lost in the crowd. He wondered if he had been like that two years ago. Perhaps. Although he was only in his second year of study, he was actually older than his classmates. This could have been his third year here, but due to an accident that had happened to his mother, he had missed an entire school year. He didn't really mind, although returning to Hogwarts after a year away was a little more difficult than he had imagined.
After a while, his attention was drawn to a small group of older students who were cheerfully discussing something related to Hogsmeade. A few minutes later, his attention was drawn to a portrait on the wall...
And so, thinking about one thing and then another, he slowly walked through the corridor and didn't even notice how everything around him had become quiet. It seemed that he had entered a part of the castle where people didn't often go, and besides, most of them were in class at that moment. He stopped and looked around. Yes, he was indeed in a corridor that wasn't used very often. However, this was fine with him. He took a deep breath and sighed. Finally, silence. And then, slowly, looking with interest at the portraits hanging on the wall, he walked on. Usually, he didn't pay attention to what was painted in these portraits, and just quickly passed by. But now he had no reason to hurry. Suddenly, he heard footsteps in the distance. He wondered if someone else, like him, had nothing to do, or if someone had simply lost their way and ended up somewhere they weren't supposed to be. In any case, the sound of footsteps caught his attention, and he slowly walked toward the source of the sound.

Sophie’s footsteps echoed nervously as she wandered down the quiet corridor, clutching her bag tightly. “Okay, this is… definitely not where I’m supposed to be,” she muttered under her breath, spinning around to look at the walls, the portraits, the silent paintings that seemed to watch her. She bit her lip and shook her head. If Dad could see me now… lost in a magic castle. He would laugh at her, than take her hand and show her the right way. Her chest tightened at the thought, the memory of his warm smile and the sound of his voice reading her bedtime stories flaring up for just a moment before she shoved it down. Not now. That wasn’t possible anyways.

She peeked around a corner and nearly jumped when she saw an empty stretch of corridor. “Alright, okay… come on. Sophie. You can do this. You’re a witch now. You’re in Hogwarts.” She muttered to herself under her breath.

Then she heard footsteps. Real footsteps. She perked up, hope sparking in her chest. Maybe someone could help her. Sophie hurried toward the sound, nearly tripping over herself in her eagerness. “Hello! Sorry-“ she blurted out before even seeing who it was. “I thought I knew the way here, but im a bit lost. Well, completely lost. Can you maybe tell me where the Charms classroom is?”

Well, he wasn't wrong. Those were indeed footsteps, and it was indeed a girl who seemed to be lost. She spoke so quickly that it took him a few seconds to process everything he had heard.
"Hello, yes, of course. To get to the Charms classroom, you need to..." He suddenly stopped. "Wait, it would probably be better to lead her to the classroom rather than just tell her the way. She might get lost again," he thought. "You know, let me go with you and show you where the Charms classroom is." He looked at her for the first time. She looked like a first year student. She had bright red hair and hazel eyes. "I wonder how she ended up here? These corridors are rarely used. Most likely, she just got lost on her way to class. That's why first years should stick together..." These thoughts were running through his head as they walked.
He walked a little ahead to show the way. He knew Hogwarts pretty well. After all, he had often wandered around the castle during his first year, and his siblings' stories had helped him learn Hogwarts much faster. So now he wasn't afraid of getting lost, although there were still places he didn't know very well. Suddenly, he realized that he hadn't introduced himself at all, and decided to fix that so as not to walk in complete silence.
"By the way, my name is Yehor, I'm from Hufflepuff, second year. And you? How did you end up alone in this corridor? This is the second floor, and the Charms classroom is on the third." He spoke calmly and confidently, looking mostly ahead of him, but occasionally glancing at her.

Sophie blinked up at him, still slightly out of breath from rushing over. “Really? You’ll walk with me? Thanks! I seriously had no idea where I was anymore.” Her words tumbled out fast and relieved. Finally, someone who wants to help me, She thought.
When Yehor introduced himself, she looked at him properly for the first time instead of talking to the air. She had to tilt her head up quite a bit, he was taller than her. His brown hair fell a little over his forehead, and his bright blue eyes seemed kind. The sound of his voice made her chest squeeze for a moment. Just for a second, it reminded her of how her dad used to sound.
Stop, Sophie. Can’t you stop missing him for just one second? She pushed the thought away, straightening her shoulders. Hogwarts was huge and exciting, and she didn’t have time to get caught up in missing him.

“I’m Sophie,” she said quickly. “First year, Gryffindor.” She hugged her heavy bag a little closer. “And yeah… I definitely got lost. I thought I was following the right group, but then the staircases moved and suddenly nothing looked familiar. Hogwarts does that on purpose, I swear. Yesterday I tried finding the Great Hall and somehow ended up near a hallway full of suits of armor, and one of them moved! That was kind of creepy.” She let out a little laugh.
“Thanks for helping me, really. If I’d wandered any further, I probably would’ve ended up somewhere in another universe.”

He listened to her with pleasure as they walked through the corridors. So Gryffindor, he remembered how he wanted to get into this house, but the Sorting Hat decided otherwise. Actually, now he didn't regret ending up in Hufflepuff at all. He smiled unwillingly and tried to hold back laughter as he listened to Sophie's story. He suddenly remembered himself in his first year. Those stairs really did move at the most unexpected moments, and it really did cause problems sometimes. Speaking as before, he glanced at her from time to time.
"Yes, Hogwarts definitely does it on purpose, I have no doubt about that. You know, in my first year, I also went the wrong way a few times, but I always found my way out." He paused for a few seconds when they reached a fork in the road, then walked on. "Hogwarts is a real maze, a large magical castle with many secrets. You know, I've always been interested in the history of Hogwarts, so I was always asking my parents and siblings to tell me at least something about this amazing castle. Thanks to that, I know quite a lot about this place." He paused, thinking about what to say next. "It's easy to get lost here, especially when you're a Muggle-born... Honestly, I feel sorry for them, they find themselves in a world that's new to them. It must be pretty scary. By the way, you're lucky I heard your footsteps. People don't walk through those corridors very often, and you could have wandered around there for hours." He continued walking confidently forward, knowing the way well, because he had once spent more than an hour here looking for the right way.

Sophie listened curious as Yehor talked, her steps practically bouncing to keep up with his. “You know a lot about this place,” she said, half impressed and still half relieved.

When he mentioned Muggle-borns, she blinked.
“Muggle-born?” she echoed quietly. She’d heard the word a few times since arriving, but nobody had ever explained it. She tried to play it cool, nodding along, only to realize she had no clue what it meant.
Okay, nope. I have absolutely zero idea what that means. And if I pretend I do, I’m gonna mess this up so bad.
She tilted her head up at him, confused but curious. “Um- sorry, this is probably a dumb question, but what exactly is a Muggle-born?” Her cheeks warmed. “I swear I’ve heard like a hundred new words in the past two days that definitely didn’t exist in the normal world.” She looked around, still amazed by the beautiful corridors of Hogwarts.
She laughed lightly, trying not to seem embarrassed.

Her words tumbled out fast, and she pulled in a breath and smiled up at him. “So, uh… you have older siblings? I kinda wish I did. Maybe then I wouldn’t feel clueless all the time.”

The question caught him off guard, and he looked at Sophie in surprise. Did she really not know what a Muggle-born was? Judging by her reaction, that seemed to be the truth. He scratched the back of his head, thinking about the best way to explain it to her.
"Well... as you already know, there are wizards. However, there are also people who don't have magical abilities, and if their parents weren't wizards either, such people are called Muggles. There are also people who are born into families of wizards but don't have magical abilities, such people are called Squibs. People who are born into Muggle families, which are families where both parents have no magical abilities, are called Muggle-borns. Those who have one parent who is a wizard and the other who is a Muggle are called Half-bloods. And those who have two wizards as parents, like me, are called Pure-bloods. Some Pure-bloods are very proud of their status and consider themselves superior to those who don't come from wizard families. That's how it is."
When he finished speaking, Yehor breathed a sigh of relief and smiled warmly, hoping that she understood everything he had said.
"You mentioned the normal world. I assume you meant the Muggle world? I mean, the non-magical world? For me, the normal world is this one. Where wizards and witches live. The Muggle world is a big mystery to me. I've been there a few times in my life," he admitted honestly.
He smiled in response to her question. "Yes, I have an older brother and sister. They used to study at Hogwarts. Thanks to them, I learned a lot of interesting things about this place. As I understood, you don't have any brothers or sisters?"
They continued walking slowly down the corridors.

Sophie listened closely while Yehor talked, her eyes full with genuine curiosity. When he finished explaining everything, she let out a small breath and gave an embarrassed smile. “Okay… that actually makes a lot more sense,” she said, her voice quick but steady. ”And um- sorry if that was the most basic question ever. I just didn’t know any of this. No one explained the magical world to me before I got here, so I’m kind of learning everything the hard way.”
She kept walking beside him, her steps light, her expression a mix of amusement and mild embarrassment. “And yeah, when I said ‘normal world,’ I meant the non-magical one.” She let out a laugh. “I’m still trying to get used to the idea that this is the normal world for some people.”
Hearing he had older siblings made her smile again. “That must’ve been really nice. Having someone to tell you what’s normal and what’s not. I don’t have any siblings, so I’m basically just winging it and hoping Hogwarts doesn’t eat me alive.”
She hugged her bag a little closer, and shot him a grateful glance for explaining.

He couldn't help but giggle and look at her with a smile. "It's okay, it's fine. It's normal to ask questions you don't know the answers to, even if they seem silly." He looked away. "Judging by her reaction, she doesn't know anything about the magical world," he thought. He looked at her intently, as if judging her. "Well, it seems that we are from two different worlds that exist side by side. I am from this one, the magical one. And you are from the other, the Muggle world. But that's okay, maybe you don't understand everything yet, but at Hogwarts you'll learn everything, and I think that over time you'll get used to the world of wizards. Hogwarts is a wonderful place, I'm sure you'll love this school." He thought for a few seconds, then decided it was worth saying after all. "But I want to warn you. Not everyone at Hogwarts, and not all wizards in general, likes Muggles and everything related to them. Although I've never understood such people. I'm a pureblood, my whole family is pureblood, but we all have nothing against Muggles."
He looked forward, they weren't far from the main corridor that most people usually used. From there, it was easy to get where they needed to go.

Sophie slowed a little as he talked, actually listening instead of filling the silence for once. His words made her think. “Yeah… I kinda figured I was missing a lot,” she said honestly, not defensive, just matter-of-fact. “I didn’t even know this world existed until pretty recently, so it’s not like anyone sat me down with a handbook or something.”

She glanced ahead at the corridor opening up, then back up at him. “But I don’t mind learning. I mean, Hogwarts feels… unreal, in a good way. The stairs, the portraits, the classes. Even getting lost is sort of amazing.” She paused, then added with a smirk, “So I’ll catch up. Eventually.”

When he mentioned that not everyone liked Muggles, she frowned slightly. “Yeah, I’ve realized that” she said. Watch where you going, stupid muggle-Born. Mudblood! Watch out, mudblood! the voices of other students mocking her in the hogwarts express the day before echoed in her head. At the time, she didn’t really know why they hated her so much for just existing, or something. ”But it’s weird” she said after a moment. “I mean, I don’t really get judging people for where they come from. I didn’t choose to be from the non-magical world.” She shrugged lightly. “But I guess every place has people like that.”
She looked back up at him. “But I’m glad not all pureblood are dramatic about it”

As they reached the busier corridor, she took a breath, shoulders straightening. “I think I’ll know the way from here. Thanks for showing me” she smiled thankfully at him.
