Aziza made her way towards the greenhouses of Hogwarts, a little pep in her step. It was a nice day and the breeze felt nice as it blew through her robes. The dark-haired girl had been amazed by the looks of almost everything at Hogwarts so far and the greenhouses were no different. It made her kind of excited to see what they would be learning about, even though she had previously had no interest in plants.

The Ravenclaw tightened her grip on her supplies as she made her way into the greenhouse, following the herd of first years in front of her. While the nerves from earlier in the week still lingered in the back of her mind, it now mostly pushed aside by excitement. While Aziza’s family could do magic, it was never the focus of their lives, so much of what the girl was learning so far was new to her.

Glancing around, the girl gave a quick smile to the Herbology professor before scrambling to find a spot for class. She was a bit early, still having time before class was to begin, but Aziza wanted to make sure she could find the greenhouses easily enough and figure out exactly how long it would take her to get there. Now that she knew where she was going, it would take considerably less time to get there.

Aziza’s curiosity got the better of her as she noticed some of the plants. While some of them looked like plants she could find at your typical Muggle store, others were completely different and unique to anything she had ever seen before. She knew they would probably learn about most of the plants there at some point.

Finally taking a moment, Aziza looked around at the students in the class with her. There were students from every house and while some students tried to stick with others from their houses, many were chatting with students from other houses. It was definitely a unique experience as she turned to introduce herself to the student closest to her. “Hello, I am Aziza.”

Rosaline was on her way to her first Herbology class. The weather was perfect, with a light breeze and soft sunlight. This was the one subject she didn’t feel certain about, because of her lack of experience with nature. She had lived in the city her whole life — except for a few months at Wrenford Manor every year, which was surrounded by nature. There was a big park near her house, but it felt more like an artificial landscape, not a real one. So she was worried about whether she could manage this subject. Also, her grandfather was a potion master who knew much about herbology; it somehow made Rosaline even more anxious about her performance. She had chatted with Lucille about her uncertainty the other night; her dormmate’s reaction to Herbology made her slightly less nervous. It seemed not that hard from Lucille’s perspective, and she had studied hard for it; she should be alright.

As she arrived at the greenhouse, she could hear the chatter inside. Everyone must still be excited for their first week, just like her. Rosaline followed a group of first-year students into the greenhouse. A fresh, earthy scent filled the air. Some plants she could recognize; some she couldn’t. She had vague memories of seeing all these plants in her grandfather’s greenhouse, but she couldn’t be sure because of her lack of knowledge. She hoped she could do well in the first class.

Rosaline found a seat and sat down, posture precisely composed, yet her fingers betrayed her, drumming lightly on her lap. As she was lost in thought, worrying about her performance again, the girl who sat next to her greeted her. She noticed the girl with the gorgeous dark brown hair who looked familiar. When she said her name, Rosaline finally recalled. Aziza – the girl she had met in Oxford several years ago, she supposed. She couldn’t remember the specific time. “Aziza! I don’t know if you still remember me. I’m Rosaline, Rosaline Everhart,” she beamed, her tone joyful. Pausing a moment, she hoped she wouldn’t come across as too abrupt and added, “It’s so nice to see you here.” With a warm smile, she met her gaze. Her blue eyes were sparkling with delight.

AAziza was kind of startled by the sudden excitement that seemed to come from the girl she had just introduced herself to. She was not used to random people being this happy to see her. It was sudden, and she spaced out for a second as she had to think about the name and see if she could place it. It would be really awkward if she did not actually remember the girl. “Oh!” The placement of where the name had come from struck her suddenly. “It has been a few years, how have you been?”

The dark-haired girl had not been expecting to actually know someone at Hogwarts. It was not often her family introduced her to other wizarding families, so already knowing someone at the school was a big surprise. It was relieving though, already knowing someone and not having to go through the introduction phase again.

“I didn’t know you were going to be attending Hogwarts, although I guess I did not know you had magic either.”ziza knew they were not allowed to tell non-magical people about their world, having been taught that from a young age. The girl remembered the talks her parents would have with her, yes there were multiple talks over the years on the topic. She had been told multiple times that she was not allowed to tell her friends about their magic or they would get in trouble. Aziza could remember them telling her she was not allowed to tell her friends at school about magic, or they would all get into trouble. At the time, she had thrown a bit of a fit, but over time, she grew to understand. She had just wanted her friends to know about her magic.

The girl next to her seemed to be startled by her sudden greeting. The Gryffindor soon realized she was acting a bit abruptly before. She blushed a rosy pink on her face and tried to be calmer toward the girl, “Sorry, that must be a little surprising to you.” Yet it was still a relief to her that she had some acquaintance from the time before Hogwarts. Her experience in the summer camp wasn’t the best because she hardly knew anyone from the wizarding society, although she had met the girl from the ice cream parlour again and a sweet boy who was good at drawing magical creatures.

The old connection, like Aziza from before, somehow comforted her. Knowing her experience from the Muggle side still mattered, assured her heart more, which was constantly figuring out where she should stand. Aziza recognized who Rosaline was. Tucking a strand of her brown hair, she replied, “I’ve been quite good. How about you? Everything happens so fast after the semester started.” Rosaline glanced at the crest in front of Aziza’s robe, blue and bronze, Ravenclaw. Though she didn’t have much preference for houses, she still liked Ravenclaw a bit more because her mom was a Raven. “How do you feel about the sorting result? I heard the Ravenclaw Common Room is really pretty.” Her eyes sparkled with curiosity. In the end, she couldn’t sneak in there. Maybe she could? But should she do that? Suddenly, Rosaline noticed she began to think like a lion. Suppressing her chuckle, she listened to Aziza intently.

“I didn’t know you were going to be attending Hogwarts, although I guess I did not know you had magic either.” Rosaline nodded. Keeping the secrecy of the wizarding world truly was a trouble in her life. She studied at the Muggle school and liked chatting with her friends, so she needed to be careful all the time. One time, she was too relaxed talking with a girl from a gathering, and she almost blurted out the Floo Net. Luckily, she dodged the bullet. “I have no idea you are here too. It looks like we’ve been taught well about the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy,” she kept her face straight with a serious voice, wanting to joke a little, then she chuckled. Rosaline continued, “I do know the importance about the statue, yet I feel bad that I couldn’t tell my friends about all the magical things. Like, they don’t even know the Unicorns are real.” Pursing her lips a little, then she added, “Anyways, we don’t need to hide anything from friends anymore, we are surrounded by magical kids.”

The chatting soothed her nerves. She was initially worried about Herbology; now she was calmer, regaining confidence in this subject. Leaning to the side, she picked up her schoolbag to take out her notebook and quills. Rosaline turned to Aziza and asked, “What’s your thought on the Herbology?” With a cheerful grin, she opened another topic.
