Appearance: Fair skin, blonde hair, blue eyes — Evelyn seems to be the classic English girl. An average height for her eleven years, she fails to stand out from the crowd. Yet despite her commonplace appearance, her outfits reflect the whimsy and magic she lacked in life before her time at Hogwarts, decorated with all the stars she believes she will never reach. It is not a projection of the person she is, but one she desperately seeks to be. Under her garments hides on her left arm a long, white scar.
Personality: Fiercely independent, Evelyn had learnt through her upbringing to fend for herself and only herself. Despite her gaggle of friends she only truly has her own interests at heart, and does not allow for anyone to get truly close to her. She seems to be highly extroverted, a behaviour observed not out of genuine amiability but a need to ride the wave away from her other emotions. A friend group floater and a fickle person, she can either be the life of the party or a pugnacious brawler. Although only eleven, she feels constantly lost in life, and does not know how to search for meaning.
Backstory & FIOM: Evelyn Grinstone was born 13th February, 2014, to two parents that treasured her dearly, Oliver Grinstone, a Muggle, and Cordelia Lovelace, a pure-blood, keeping their child a secret from Cordelia’s bigoted family. Claiming that she was busy with her job in the Ministry, she managed to evade the suspicions of her parents for the two years of their relationship. Until she gave birth to Evelyn, foolishly, in a magical hospital, where she ran across her tattle-tale sister.
Before they got a chance to be a family, Cordelia was whipped away from Oliver, leaving the man’s life in shambles. Cordelia, with her hefty salary, was the main provider for the family’s wealth, while his father worked odd jobs. After she left, without a stable income and a stable mind, Oliver was left to tend to Evelyn alone, lost in life and lost on how to raise a child. Although he tried his best to be a loving father, somedays, he was simply too tired to know how.
Most of the time, Oliver was a good dad. He did everything to grow closer with his daughter, taking her out on picnics, swimming with her in the lake, and being the foundation she would grow up on. But the good, as abundant as it may be, could never outdo the times he had wronged her. Although he had never and would never raise a hand to her, he played and meddled with her emotions.
As Evelyn grew, small and uncertain, she did not quite know what to think of the concept of home. Perhaps it never existed for her. Maturing into her preteen years, she started avoiding her house as much as she could, especially after her father started to turn his stress towards Evelyn as it grew. With confusing rising in her, the only clear emotion was anger, and the only outlet she could find was boxing. She is not fearful to start a fight.
Until the fight came to her. After a family drama that left Cordelia disowned and her reputation destroyed in the pureblood world, the woman had no where else to go but back to her former boyfriend and her daughter. When Evelyn was nine, she tried to reenter into her life, yet she was no longer the woman Oliver had once fallen in love with. Ruined over her family’s arguments, she seemed more like a madwoman.
Oliver refused for Cordelia to take their daughter away. With her having been absent for all nine years, it was barely their daughter in the first place. During one particularly heated argument, Cordelia casted a spell at Oliver, only to have it ricochet towards Evelyn, scarring her on her left arm. In Evelyn’s anger and pain, the all the lightbulbs above exploded, leaving shards in her mother’s skin. Only later would her father explain to her that it was her first display of magic.
