Candyman Complete Main Story

One candy was hardly enough. It wouldn't have been sufficient even if Evelynn hadn't accidentally mixed the laced chocoball in with a handful of normal ones. She had already had a mind to do some research, to try to reverse engineer or at least study the effects of the sweets to be able to inform (or warn) the student body, and after seeing the effects that Jo had incurred, that desire had only increased.

It was a little scary to think that these little sweets were floating around the school in unknown numbers; and in the hands of reckless and impulsive children, no less. This notion wasn't an abstract one, either. She had been approached by someone forming some sort of team with the purpose of analyzing the individual and combined effects of the various treats. The only problem: they needed more of them, and the sketchy ravenkid was being obtusely insistent about allowing only a single purchase, by the looks of several interactions she had observed. Naturally, that didn't mean she wouldn't try.

"I hear you're selling candies..." Evelynn said with a sly smirk to the hooded kid as though the two had never spoken before and this was all news to her. "I want to buy a chocoball," she stated succinctly, sickles clinking lightly together in the palm of her hand, as though begging to be traded.

She could only hope that the boy didn't remember her. Or if he did, that he'd give her a break and sell her a second. She wasn't holding her breath on the matter, but neither would she succumb to resigned pessimism. She'd hold her sly grin, eyes glinting with desire.

Of course...if this route did prove futile, she had another plan. The typically goody-two-shoes that she was, it wasn't exactly one that she normally would have condoned, but if the times called for it, she'd bend a few rules if she had to. There were fishy things happening about the school; dangerous people and suspicious activity. With all the Prophet's talk of stolen ingredients and poisoned people, she couldn't help feel skeptical about this arrival of laced goodies. They needed to know more — make sure they weren't anything more or less than advertised. If the kid wouldn't let her buy some sweets, then she'd just have to try to nick some. She was quick. She was deft. She had a keen eye to spot opportunities. Perhaps she could find a time when he was distracted with a group and pick-pocket a chocoball or few.
Against the rules, Evelynn tries to buy a second candy;
if unsuccessful, she tries to nick some instead

The fact that there was candy for sale attracted a regular, albeit trickling stream of customers. A fellow Ravenclaw @Jorah Moussa being among them. Vladimir recognized the face as belonging to a housemate but he did not have a name for the face. He would go through the sales pitch, looking a bit like a flasher as he revealed the inner lining of his long jacket. Candy contraband it would seem, but the reasoning for such is simple - love potions have a questionable ethic.

Jorah would request a sticky caramel. An interesting choice. "Be careful of jealous lovers," Vladimir warned "and you will do well." A few knuts in exchange for a single, precious confectionery.

A repeat customer would approach Vladimir. He was not hard to find, wearing a cliche long coat and standing in the very spot she had found him before. However, Vladimir was a Ravenclaw and therefore had more than an inquiring mind but also a sharp memory. She would not get the sales pitch, she had already heard it. In fact, she announced what she wanted before he even flashed her an inventory - another chocoball. He could not blame her, not really. If used right, it was incredibly effective. If used incorrectly, you just made yourself an onlooker to a cruel display of affection between your most desired and... well something... anything else.

The girl was a pretty girl, she had no need for the first candy, never mind the second. "I am sorry, but I cannot sell you another." There was a good reason for it, it was more than rules were rules, but it was an explanation he would not casually give. He never opened his coat, a few of the buttons were left open of course.

The girl would try to reach in and Vladimir would take a step back. He seemed less apologetic the second time. "You do not want it," he snapped as he tightened his coat around him and buttoned his chest closed. There were some things he was apparently firm on, one being the limit per customer. If these candies had devious alternative effects, why would it matter if someone had more than one on their person? Well, that is a mystery for the Scooby gang to solve.

Santario had heard about an interesting rumor about the mysterious boy who sold the candy. Though she wasn’t coming here to buy candy to give to someone else. No, after all, she had learned from Professor Price about Amortentia for her Headliner article she would never have had an inclination to give something like this to someone. She found it detestable to take away an innocent person’s free will so that you could selfishly love them. She didn’t think any of these candies were full of Amortentia, but it seemed the seller definitely implied that they were laced with something.

It didn’t take her long to find the kid in the courtyard peddling his candies. He would find that it didn’t take her any coaxing to walk over to him. She looked up at the no doubt, taller boy with soft eyes and a shy smile. “May I have the chocoball, please?” Her silvery voice was dulcet as if she were an innocent doe with eyes like water. She would produce for the boy 1 sickle as was requested for the chocoball and held it out to the boy. Assuming that he took the sickle from her and gave her the chocoball, she would smile kindly up at him once more. “Thank you.” After her expression of gratitude, she would take her leave, hopefully with a chocoball.

Vladimir had no idea that there was a gang of students forming to investigate the very confectioneries the Ravenclaw peddled. Vladimir had busied himself with the various sales transactions of the day. Chocoballs and cards appeared to be far the best selling items in his inventory. So much so that he had to procure additional sweets from his seller. Nothing was ever simple of course and this was no exception. A boy willingly selling 'improved candy' at cost.

He was not hiding the fact that there was something 'different' or 'off' about his candy, they even came with a verbal disclaimer regarding the risk. Instructions for use. Another girl would find her way in front of him. He would give her the same line he gave a dozen or so girls before her. Not that any of them really needed it, well maybe a few.

She was interested in a chocoball, so there would be an exchange. A single 'enhanced' chocoball in exchange for a single sickle. "Not a problem," Vladimir would respond as he retrieved the sweet treat. Just the one, that was all she was going to need. Once the coin switched hands, he would give her the basic instruction he gave several students already. "Make sure that their eyes are on you when they consume the chocoball."

That was it, nothing more... nothing less. Their heart would be hers for the day.

When Erik found himself once more outside he was aimlessly wondering around the courtyard when a pecular, if not down right odd, individual that seemed to desperately want his attention. When Erik looked around himself and pointed towards himself with his lips moving into a wordless me. The odd guy nodded and acknowledged that he was in fact talking to him.

Raising his eyebrow at him with a curious expression adorning his face he slowly, but steadily walked towards him. When the guy became odder by opening his vest and showing all these kinds of different sweets he had Erik's undivided attention. Well, well. What do we have here? As the mystery man went on to price his wares the young werewolf started to stroke his chin in thought as he went over all these different goods. What do I choose? This guy has a lot. Hmmm... What do women like, more specifically. What do pure-blood women like? As he went over the choices in his mind one more time he quickly discarded the card. He wasn't too good with words. He wanted to go for the chocolate as it's widely known that chicks dig chocolate, but it was too expensive to bother with for long. So lastly it was the caramel or the lemon. What else is better then the linger taste of something sour? Alright, I'll take one of your Sherbert Lemons off of your hands then., he told the mystery man. I have just the girl in mind that would love this kind of treat.

Opeila felt weird when she entered the courtyard to buy the sweet that the Gryffindor had asked for. There must be something wrong with the stuff that Vladimir was selling, right? Otherwise the Gryffindor would have bought some himself. Except...
Then she heard Vladimir talking to someone. Saying something about owning someones heart for a day. Valentine's day. The Slytherin shook her head in disbelief, clicking her tongue. Was she really helping that Gryffindor with poisoning someone else? Or worse, would he eat it? If she was the one to give it to him... Oh Jesus. Were the three sickles worth it? Yes, she thought, they were.
Opeila exhaled before slowly walking towards the Ravenclaw. "Hey!", she said, a light smile on her face. "Would you, uh... sell me one of those?" She quickly looked around, uncomfortable about buying laced candy.
If it wasn't for the three sickles, Opeila would have kept a distance from the courtyard of at least twenty meters. She hated the idea of having a hand in possibly poisoning someone, who didn't know about it.
So, what did the boy want again? A sherbert lemon or a sticky caramel...
"Uh... A sherbert lemon maybe?" She guessed, that the Gryffindor would be fine with that. And five knuts sounded like a good deal. Besides, the Gryffindor would give them back to her anyway.

Some people were cheapskates when it came to love. Well, everyone got their money's worth with Vlad. As the young Slytherin made his choice and his purchase after Vlad completed his sales line he considered his warning disclaimer. He knew he had to give his line, he knew that the guy in front of him would probably not listen. But he was a Slytherin, what did he care?

"Here you are then," Vladimir announced as he exchanged a few knuts for a piece of candy. "She" he was being a bit presumptive "will hunger for you in a number of ways." With a half smile, the candy relinquished. "Have a good time."

[Erik Out]

Shortly after Erik departed, another little girl would show up. He would repeat his lines, she had overheard some but it was a routine at this point. She too wanted a Sherbet Lemon candy, the cheapest of options. Unbeknownst to Galton, the boy was starting an underground candy economy and it would have dire consequences. His last incident was bad enough as to draw an auror to the grounds with a mixed history with the people. Many things were about to be uncovered because of a few selfish acts. In the girl's case - greed. In Galton's case - gluttony. And in the cast of several others - lust.

Vladimir would perform the exchange and hand a candy off to the girl for a few knuts. "Take care when you share this candy, their voracious hunger can be difficult to manage," he warned. Not that she would listen, they never listen. Galton, the probable secret buyer, never listens.

The Hufflepuff had been rarely seen, nowadays, not since she decided it was probably better to recuperate from the Masquerade Ball in the safety of her Common Room. She had broken up with Lamik [one day...], befriended George Henry through a bite [totally not my fault that we haven't rped much more...] and...though she was isolated, seemed considerably less angry and sad.

What had changed? She was still a werewolf, still forced to hide out in the Shrieking Shack once a month with those other rejects of society, but a little mindfulness and reflection had done Mari Haynes some good. Everyone in Hogwarts, especially @Lamik Fillestar, likely owed George many presents of thanks for breaking Mari out of her spell.

Mari, these days, had taken her time of isolation to fully embrace acceptance of all that had happened to her, as well as all that she had been in the last few months. Trauma after trauma; some days, she wondered if she would still be as angry as she was if George hadn't made her laugh that night at the ball? Even though it had turned out just as disastrous as any of the others, Mari managed to slip away without any drastic repercussions [again, totally not because I dropped the ball...], and she was about as normal as a werewolf-girl could be, nowadays.

With one delusion still in tact. For some reason, though Mari understood that everything else was a joke, she still thought that she was the fifth prefect of Hufflepuff. That story, however, was for another day.

As part of her new, calmer self, Mari took walks, occasionally, to clear her head. Some days were easier than others - it was a little cold to have a completely relaxing walk - but for the most part, it regulated her emotions as much as she needed. She was thinking, today, about how she really needed to get out and reconnect with some of her old friends - her really old friends, the ones who didn't know her when she was...struggling...when a voice broke her reverie. No matter what her mood, Mari always was stuck in her thoughts, so much so that she had to stop and concentrate to fully understand the boy's next statement, as the first was a blur: "Yeah, you."

Furrowing her brow, Mari looked at the boy as he offered his goodies. A part of her questioned the ordeal, as she had experienced quite a bit of difficulties recently. But at her core, especially when she wasn't angry, Mari remained trusting, and though the words "their heart is yours for one day," seemed peculiar, she decided that it was just because it was candy. Who doesn't love someone who gives them candy?

"Okay," Mari murmured, still a bit hesitant as she reached into her pocket for the proper change and handed it over, "I'll take a sticky caramel, then."

She waited for the candy to be handed over, then continued on her way. Though Mari had no plans to win over any boys for a long time, as she no longer wanted to manipulate them and still wanted to vomit at the thought of kissing them - how had she made it through kissing Lamik? - she knew one boy who would always have her heart: George. She planned to give him the candy as a thank you, though Mari could always be easily swayed by a convincing argument. Fate would determine if the sticky caramel made it into George's hands.

Janet strode over to the courtyard and looked around for the person in the long dark jacket that the boy had described.
"Hey you..."
She swivelled round quickly and turned to face him.
"Yeah you."
"I got one hell of a deal for you if you're willing to buy." he said, slowly unbuttoning his jacket revealing sweets and cards that Janet suspected were filled with love potion or something of the sort.
"Selling candy and cards in time for Valentines Day," he announced. "Something your your (lady or man) love to enjoy as a treat to ensure that their heart is yours for but one day," he claimed.
She was just about to say that actually she wasn't a bit interested in his sweets and she just wanted to buy them for someone else, why would she need to trick someone into loving her? Janet may be one of the schools number one rule breakers, but she had a strong sense of right and wrong, she didn't think that the boy in the hallway wanted to do that though, he would have already done it with his first sweet. No, he wanted these sweets for himself. Suddenly it occurred to her that the boy waiting in the hallway wouldn't have been giving people money for buying him things if he were allowed to just buy more himself. But why wouldn't he be allowed to buy more than one? Surely that was the whole point of business! This was all very mysterious, and Janet liked mystery
"Yep" She said, "That's why I'm here, could I have one of those caramel ones please?"

There would be a few more girls looking to find love this Valentines. They both wanted to same thing -- sticky caramels. He was a bit surprised that it was such a big seller, previously it had been chocoballs but it would appear that fads change.

Both girls would get the same sweet treat, one after another. "Well there you are," he smiled as he handed Mari a caramel in exchange for a few knuts. A rather cheap confection, in some ways one gets what they pay for. However, maybe she is into cheap thrills like this. "But I need to first warn you, that there is a voracious hunger that comes with this passion. It will be hard to control." Hunger comes in many many forms. Hopefully she will be prepared. "Have a happy Valentines pretty girl."

After her, the second customer of the evening. She wanted the same thing. Sticky caramel. He exchanged a candy for a few coins. It was a real steal. "Just be careful with this. The hunger one experiences is... exceptional," Vladimir warned. It was a simple, basic warning. One that she was not going to listen to, like so many others before her. "But have a good time."
