Lily had been sitting in the Great Hall, having breakfast with her friends, when they had received something. "Timetables", someone behind her said, sighing. Lily looked at the timetable in her hands. It showed that the first-year Hufflepuffs were supposed to attend their first Transfiguration class with their fellow Gryffindors. "Works fine with me. Just hope it goes good.", Lily thought to herself.
She stood up, taking her bag with her. Her friends asked her where she was going, so she replied, "Just going to the Transfiguration class. I want to check the room out, and I think I have forgotten my book, so to get it too. Meet you in the class later. If I am late, save a seat for me please.".
She started going out of the Great Hall, when she accidentally bumped into a boy. "Sorry", Lily muttered a quick apology, looking at the boy. He had a dark hair, and a sharp face.
Leaving the boy behind, she went to her dorm, from where she took her Transfiguration book and made her way towards the fifth floor; she had heard that the Transfiguration class would take place there.
Unfortunately for Lily though, she got confused because of the staircases. Therefore, she just managed to reach the classroom on time. "Ugh, couldn't it have been simpler to reach these classes? ", she muttered under her breath.
Taking a deep breath, she entered the class. She easily spotted her friends, who were waving their hands. She made her way towards them and sat beside one of them.
"Thanks for saving the seat.", Lily said.
As her friends started talking about something again, Lily looked around the room. She saw a boy enter and recognized him. "Oh, so he is also in our class...", Lily thought. He made her way towards HIS friends, which Lily later realized was sitting beside her.
"So the seat beside me is supposedly his?", Lily made a wild guess on this. Whether or not he was sitting here, only time would tell....

Ryder wasn’t really paying attention to anything that morning. Breakfast in the Great Hall was like usual everyday happiness for many; he could see his cousins chatting happily with their friends. Ryder was also sitting in….company. Friends was a generous word. They were just people he tolerated and people who tolerated him. This was the way he was used to. It came as a surprise when they wanted to stick around, as Ryder thought himself of way straightforward and mean, his cousins were not afraid to point that out oh so often. He was not one to blame though, when one grows alone in solitude, they learn to hate company and socializing, maybe that was his problem, maybe he just didn’t know what it felt like to actually be social and interactive.
He drank the last sip of his morning coffee and got up to get to his class. Checking the timetable, he kept walking to the kitchens, “Transfiguration with Hufflepuffs, at least they are not Ravenclaws, that bunch just keeps on talking, perfect everything and giggling girls.” He sighed as he made his way out of the great hall to the kitchens.
Ryder suddenly felt a push to his side, someone had collided into him, “Watch it.” Ryder said to the girl as she mumbled a quick apology and hurried away, “Hufflepuffs are always in a hurry.”
He made his way to the kitchens, a soft smile finally emerging on his lips as he saw Kelpie working around. She was a house elf and Ryders first friend in Hogwarts. He was always good with house elfs more than people as he was raised by them. “Hi Kelpie.” He greeted her as she turned to him, “Master Ryder, your food has been sent to the dorm.” He smiled at her, “Thankyou, you know how I cant eat in the great hall, but now I am going to class, just came to check on you, it’s a gloomy day today.” Kelpie smiled at him and said, ” I made you your favorite, and it will reach you after you return from class, you should go now, don’t want to get you in trouble.”
Ryder gave her a smile and a quick thanks making his way to class quickly and took his usual seat, noticing the girl on his side, he found out it was the same girl who had crashed into him just a few minutes ago, “Didn’t thought I’d be seeing you so soon.”
He said that to the girl, trying not to be mean as his mood was lifted a little after talking to Kelpie.

The First Lesson
“Didn’t thought I’d be seeing you so soon.”, Lily heard the boy said. This made her blush in embarrassment, as she herself hadn't thought so.
"Well, I hadn't thought so too. And I am sorry for the morning incident. I didn't mean to stumble into you, I was just a bit too....". The dot dot dot was implied by Lily's hands which moves around her head in a way that suggested that she was a little crazy in her head.
The boy chuckled at this. Maybe he was thinking how crazy Lily was in real life. She doesn't seem that part at the first glance.
"Anyways, I am Lily. Lily Clarke. I am a pure blood.", Lily introduced herself to the boy, trying her best to change the topic. "What about you?", she asked.
As the boy looked confused, she further explained, "I mean, what is your name?". Oh why does she have to be this tounge tied around new people. She really should learn from her friends, who were straight-up bold and confident. Should she take a lesson from them? " Oh, what in the world is going in my head? I am damn sure the boy must be thinking how weird I am.." Whether or not did the boy think so, only he could tell.......

When Lily started waving her hands around her head trying to explain why she’d crashed into him earlier, he blinked… once… twice… and the corner of his mouth twitched upward, just barely.
“Right,” he said, trying not to laugh. “Makes sense. I guess.”
Then she introduced herself — Lily — all proper, like the hand‑waving never happened. Ryder gave a small shrug.
“Ryder. Ryder Hawke.”
He leaned back in his chair slightly, looking a lot more relaxed now that the morning chaos had settled.
“Gryffindor, but I think that’s obvious.”
He watched her for a moment — the way she seemed nervous, tripping over her own words. It reminded him of people who tried too hard to say the right thing around strangers. Ryder never bothered with that, but he could tell she was trying.
“You don’t have to look so terrified,” he added, voice dry but not unkind. “You’re… doing fine.”
He wasn’t trying to be intimidating — he just didn’t want people overly friendly, but he didn’t want them scared of him either. Somewhere in between was fine.
His gaze flicked toward the front of the classroom, then back to her.
“And for the record, you weren’t the weirdest thing I’ve seen today. So you’re safe.”
It was meant to be reassuring — in the awkward, blunt Ryder way.
Say whatever you want about me. Just don’t touch what’s mine.

“Right. Makes sense. I guess.", Lily heard the boy saying. "Oh, I am definitely sounding crazy.", she thought to herself. And then she introduced herself as Lily. She saw him taking in this new information.
After giving a little shrug, the boy introduced himself. “Ryder. Ryder Hawke.” He leant back on his chair, probably being mor comfortable with the talk and said, “Gryffindor, but I think that’s obvious.” She nodded at this, his clothes, his red and golden scarf had been enough for Lily to know that.
She saw him observe her, maybe her body language?
“You don’t have to look so terrified,” he said. “You’re… doing fine.” And, a moment later, he added. “And for the record, you weren’t the weirdest thing I’ve seen today. So you’re safe.”
Lily didn't know whether to be embarrassed at this or what. And yes, she did agree with him. Maybe, just maybe, she wasn't that weird.
Oh well. Who cares whether she was a bit weird or not?
Her brain started whispering to itself, "A lot of people do ,you know? They judge yo...." Ufff... It was tiring, trying to stop her brain from trash-talking itself.
This had been going in her head, but physically, she looked at the classroom door. When was the teacher going to come?
She said to Ryder, "When is the teacher going to come?"

Ryder smiled at Lily when he noticed her tumbling over words and then got quiet. But, he thought that she really didn’t had to, her point was really valid.
“Hey, the people are going to judge, cause they have nothing better to do in their life. And, to be really honest? People judge others because they find that fault or something in themselves and they are just jealous really.”
He shrugged and looked towards the classroom door, “The Professor should be here soon, I really don’t want to find out this is a free class. Cause I for somewhat reason cant spend time with my dormmates right now.”
He leaned forward on his desk, resting his arms casually. “Don’t worry about all the… thinking in your head stuff. I’ve seen people freak out over way smaller things. You’re fine.”
He opened his textbook and turned to her, “So Transfiguration your thing or no?”
Ryder had just made up his mind to talk nicely to someone and actually interact with people, he decided to start with Lily, she seems cool enough and like someone who will understand my struggle with my cold heartedness. Whatever the people say, Ryder could care less. He would only talk nicely to someone he thinks he can have a conversation with.
And this could be a start?
Say whatever you want about me. Just don’t touch what’s mine.
The First Lesson
Lily noticed Ryder smile at her. Maybe he was thinking that she was being shy and having trouble with words. Well, it was partly true....
“Hey, the people are going to judge, cause they have nothing better to do in their life. And, to be really honest? People judge others because they find that fault or something in themselves and they are just jealous really.”, he said. Lily nooded in agreement, her grandfather used to tell her that too. But she had always wondered, were people actually jealous or just taunting her?
Lily was pulled out from her thoughts when Ryder said something, “The Professor should be here soon, I really don’t want to find out this is a free class. Cause I for somewhat reason cant spend time with my dormmates right now.” He added, “Don’t worry about all the… thinking in your head stuff. I’ve seen people freak out over way smaller things. You’re fine.”
Lily certainly did not think so, but she let the thought slip out of her mind.
“So Transfiguration your thing or no?”, Ryder asked. Lily honestly didn't not know the answer to this. She was not sure, but she had read the book some times, and she actually understood some parts. She replied, "Not sure. I read the book. Some parts are good and very easy to understand while the others are hard... What about you?"
