Unwelcome Invitation
@Luke HewittIt would be a lie if he said he hadn't expected it because deep down, far in the back of his head where he'd pushed the thoughts away for the future him to deal with he'd known the date was coming up. Known that he'd have to deal with it sooner rather than later but somehow, maybe because of how distant everything felt here at Hogwarts, it'd still surprised him. The type of unpleasant surprised that sent your a cold shock down your spine, the type that instantly made your heart skip a beat and left you lightheaded with anxiety.
He hated the spring gala. No, hate was too kind a word, despise maybe, loath. They called it a party, sometimes a charity but it was nothing but an excuse to rub elbows and keep up appearances. A mixing pot of gossip, sleazy jerks and barely concealed insults. He hadn't wanted to go. School actually being a perfect excuse because really, wasn't education more important?
The answer was yes. At least to the family members with a working brain.
His uncle on the other hand apparently didn't have no in his vocabulary because this was the sixth invitation in the last two weeks he'd received, not counting the 2 howlers the fool had sent and frankly it was getting old.
He hadn't even gotten past the envelope to see who it was from before ripping it to pieces without a shred of remorse left within him. The small shimmer of silver and green from behind plain envelope making his throat tighten uncomfortably and his chest ache with annoyance and anxiety. He really hated the man, and it was only when he had a handful of ripped paper and ruined card that he felt any semblance of peace.
"I miss the colder months already," he muttered bitterly, shoving the ruined paper into his bag. He'd watch it burn it later in the common room just like the others.
