Finding a Ravenclaw in the library was never a surprise. Isolation made it effortless to read a good book or even make time for studies. Emma, surprisingly, could be found doing the same thing. Except this was catching up on a lesson that was to nevermore be taught again. The first semester had passed, and still, Herbology seemed so challenging for her. Truthfully, she hadn't remembered a single plant taught except for the one taught in her introductory class at Hogwarts. With a half-dozen textbooks sitting in her vicinity, she shifted between each text and took notes on them. There was nothing special about these books. They didn't strive to bite a limb off or gradually unveil information on the page. There was absolutely nothing to keep her interest; the intricate note-taking was the only thing keeping her conscious.

There was no surprise the brunette was consuming more time in the library, although visiting the library was a weekly thing she began to obtain distinct novels, classes were still in session and she wasn't here for a new book to enjoy. She had gotten lucky enough to be given a free period, and she was wasting it in the library. As an hour passed of constant note-taking her mind began to wander to other places. There wasn't anyone to make her laugh, or keep her concentrated, or possibly even distracted. The librarian never told her to shush for producing too much noise, for not a peep emerged from her mouth, not even a sigh nor a groan. Her studying was getting nowhere. At least the notes were still in her possession, it was one thing she could study without the struggle of weight. She'd had enough studying for one day.

Standing up from an hour's worth of sitting, she assembled the multiple textbooks and forced her legs to the Herbology section, neglecting her bag and notes behind at the desk. The aisle wasn't across the library, they'd be fine. The paralysis in her legs slowly departed as the towering bookshelves blocked her peripheral vision as she made her way to the location she found the books.

Although it would have been a lie to say she remembered precisely where she placed the textbooks, she made an educated guess and stuffed it into a loose spot knowing she'd get into trouble for it later. As she squatted to place the books back she winced and stood immediately, the text sticking out a little. It would have to work. Shaking her legs one by one, she pushed the remaining books into any opening she could find and exited the aisle. There was nothing else to do but study, and sadly she remembered she indeed had to go to class, DADA. What a better way to prepare than to read up on their lesson. Boggarts.

It had been the highlight of the year so far, and the third years of Hogwarts would finally get to encounter one. The Ravenclaw simply had to be prepared. At least she was interested in this. It didn't take her long to discover the Dark Arts section, and with caution, she proceeded there. Why couldn't everything be in alphabetical order by title? Emma did not know any journalists besides the impostor that taught years ago in these very walls.

Inferius, at least she was getting closer. Those were creatures, she couldn't be that far off. Stopping in place, her eyes wandering around until her eyes hit the high target. Climbing the ladder to reach the book, she smiled to herself. Casting that spell was going to be a breeze. As she sprang from the ladder, temptation pulled her to grab other books. After all, she didn't know much about 'dark' creatures, but it never hurt to find out. They were going to be taught later on. A few more books wouldn't hurt, and she knew exactly what to look for. Whether it was curses or wizards she found first, she sincerely wanted to get her note-taking done. Her first priority was Boggarts, however.

Aurelia had only discovered of her biological family during the summer when she confronted her parents about her adoption one dinner.
Surprisingly, it had not been her reluctant adoptive mother who divulged the truth but rather Eaux, the house elf. Apparently, the family she was born into was The Notrésvace, a dead pureblood family, killed off by dark wizards.

The reason to why she Mother - adoptive mother - had never revealed to her before was one Aurelia understood. They lost their firstborn, Raphael Bezuidenhout, her older brother whom she grew up with till 8 years of age. Aurelia assumed that the death of her son had caused her mother to fear losing her daughter. She missed Raphael dearly too.

On a warm day of mid August, Aurelia ordered Eaux to take her to the Notrésvace Manor — to the chagrin of her parents. Since then, her curiosity of her origins only piqued further. If what they all said was true, Aurelia would be the last Notrésvace. However, she had yet to discover many facts about her biological family. How had they came to met their demise was a mystery.

Returning to Hogwarts had been quite the transition. Not only was she two months late into the semester, but Aurelia Bezuidenhout was no more. She was Aurelia Notrésvace. Many who knew of the once powerful pureblood family had questions that Aurelia could not answer. Aurelia knew better than to ask her mother.

This has brought her to the library of all places. A room with vast knowledge. Surely she could find something about the Notrésvace. It was about thirty minutes of searching through shelves had the Gryffindor finally an ages book. It was about pureblood families. Aurelia took a seat at the nearest desk where she flipped the book and began divulging in its knowledge.

However, it seemed that the peace for her was only temporarily as it wasn’t too long before she heard footsteps nearing. Raising her head from the book, her features twisted into a frown as her eyes laid upon none other than Emma Hill. “Emmaline Hill. You would not find my journal here. It was set on fire a week before the summer. I wonder who did it. ” Aurelia said almost accusingly.

It was true, the precious journal of her brother had been long gone as the result of a supposed prank. It had sent her down an emotional spiral when she watched it incinerated to ashes before her. Although she would not admit, the loss of the journal was more beneficial than it was detrimental. She had not yet discovered who the culprit was and she could not help but suspect that Emma had done it.

Everything seemed to perk her ears up, whether it being about the past or even just random facts that looked interesting to her. More records began to stand out to her practically reeling her mind in. Her enthusiasm only intensified as she wandered back and forth the aisle, discovering new titles she hadn't the first time. Emma didn't find anything quite dangerous, well, at least nothing that had the opportunity to encounter her at Hogwarts. She was sure it was all shrouded in the restricted section or even in another segment of the school. That was for another time, however. She was always looking for another secret to reveal.

Textbooks and headlines kept her engaged, perhaps even distracted. Alas, all good things eventually came to an end. At the mentioning of her name, her head snapped in the direction of the familiar, bothersome voice, four textbooks occupying her hands. With a sigh, she shifted to face the bookshelf and continued to point out the spines on the textbook and dump it into her pile. Shaking her head, she plopped the books down at the nearest vacant table and approached the Gryffindor. "Me?" A tight whisper arose from somewhere inside her, "Burn evidence? I came here to study, not to scavenge for some dead German's diary."

After gesturing toward the pile of books, she crossed her arms and looked down the aisle to distract herself. The Ravenclaw didn't know why she had to establish herself. She was only going to be called a liar, and although it might have been true, she was not lying.

Previous records were the bulk of stack, it was simply something she didn't understand. There wasn't a single History of Magic lesson that could teach her about her family tree. Emma hadn't found anything interesting regarding the subject, but there wasn't anything to hide. What if she found out something she didn't want to know? Dismissing the people, she faced Aurelia once again. Her expression hadn't changed. "I would get your facts together before you end up-" Emma paused and ran her thumb across her neck. Like your 'brother' she thought.

Adhering to the rules of the library, the brunette turned on her heels and sat down at the table at the end of her aisle, only a few feet away from the Gryffindor with a clear view. Too clear maybe. Putting the empty words out her mind, she opened the DADA textbook in front of her and a scrap of parchment. Until she got to use her wand, it would be the next best thing.

The Ravenclaw's voice was sharp and spoken in a defensive manner. AN enemy Emma was but Aurelia could not tell if the girl spoke the truth. It did not quite matter now, did it? The book was set ablated, completely disintegrated to ashes, not a spell in the vast wizarding world could ever recover the precious artefact. Raphael's journal was gone. All that was left of him were the reclaimed memories she had that her own mother tried to void with magic eight years ago.

A breath hitched in her throat at the mention of 'dead german' and her blue-grey eyes narrowed with a glare like ice. Raphael was Dutch. Yet the Ravenclaw was not wrong, the Schuttes originated from Germany. Then again, Emma was only knowledgeable of this fact as she had once snooped into her brother's diary, hers.

A typical Ravenclaw Emma's statement was. Only making visits to the library to study. For the very person she abhorred to claim the desk so near to hers caused her much aggravation. There were plenty other desks around the expansive library but Aurelia knew her rival too well and was well aware that Emma was only trying to be a nuisance once again.

"There are worse things than death." Aurelia mumbled under her breath, not relatively loud but probably loud enough for the other student to hear. As an aspiring monster hunter with some experience, Aurelia had the first-hand view of the monsters. A view that was far too close for a normal child her age to be comfortable with.

Both of them were well aware of the impending DADA class that afternoon. It was one Aurelia was not looking forward to. She would at least have a few minutes of peace before her day was ruined, if the Ravenclaw would let her, that was. Fixating her attention back to the thick book, Aurelia resumed the reading on the Notresvace. Her biological family.

From what she got so far, they were powerful with wealth and riches. But it was the wealth and power that lead to their downfall. Now the gryffindor was the last of the notresvace.

From her table, Emma couldn't help but glance in the Gryffindor's direction several times. It seemed like the first time she was telling the truth, at least to her. A smile appeared on her face at the thought of a student smoking the diary with or even without magic. It was doing Aurelia more good than harm now that the journal was gone; there was nothing to remind her besides memories, and even those would wilt away soon. Later, it would be a casual topic to discuss. There would be no more tears left to cry.

Any chance of studying had gone down the drain, she was a good actress, however. Supporting the first book against the stack, the Boggart book, her eyes began examining the page. There were still many titles she had to get through before the next period commenced. For the first time in forever, reading truly piqued her interest. They were bound to learn more about the Dark Arts in DADA, maybe even history if the occasion called for it.

Propping her feet up on the chair across, the Ravenclaw sank in her chair a little. The first page was packed with numerous examples of boggarts. Gigantic spiders, a familiar face, and even unsocketed eyes rolling in the picture frame. If there was one thing, she wasn't going to display fear. It was her father's side somehow telling her the scene was going to be artificial. None of it was real, and whatever her boggart turned out to be was to go in one ear and out the other. False thoughts began taunting her head. Emma was anxious to find out what it shifted into. Every time she attempted to push the thought out, worse appeared to shock her. Before she could decide if it was best to skip the class, or even stay in the library, the same voice came from across.

"Oh really, now?" Her curiosity had climaxed and she let out a pitiful chuckle, still maintaining her volume. "Like being alone? Or unhappy? Maybe losing a loved one? A few even." The taunt grew more severe as she continued.

Her eyes made contact with the weighted book in the Gryffindor's hand, reading the cover, title, and even the spine. It was an old book, to say the least. Every novel in the immense library had its own feature, but these writings were much older than the thirteen-year-old. Possibly even older than some of the professors; the old professors.

"What've you got there? Look interesting." The brunette closed the book and set it aside to represent the pile she had "finished". Resting her head upon her palms.

The library of Hogwarts was huge and there were undoubtfully more seats Aurelia could move to and spend her research uninterrupted an away from the Ravenclaw who was starting to get on her nerves as usual. However, if she stood and left, the act would be mean submitting to the notorious Emma Hill and giving her the satisfaction of witnessing her frustration. There was no way. Aurelia would regard herself as a relatively patient person, but not with Emma and a handful she could name, it was likely due to the fact that they were constantly poking and asking for trouble with every encounter.

Dangerously testing her patience Emma was as a taunt left her lips, the arrogance thick on the Ravenclaw's tongue. Her shoulders tensed up at her words. From her first year at Hogwarts, Emma never ceased to get under her nerves. Hate was a strong word, one never to be loosely used but it was a term that exactly described her abhorrence towards her long time rival. It took all the self-control not to snap back with a snarky remark. Aside from the tensing of her shoulders, the fourteen-year old did not give more of a response before turning to her book.

Unfortunately, to her dismay, Emmaline would not keep her mouth shut and curiously peered over her shoulder with a question. Her rosy lips pursed together in a thin line, clearly discontented with the whole situation. "Family. Apparently, mine had been exterminated my dark wizards. What about yours Emma? I am sure there are dark wizards in your line."

It was true, Emma had genuinely come to study before her next lesson which her rival would be attending as well. The thought of having an advantage in the class put her in a pleasant mood, and she already promised herself multiple times she wouldn't yell at her greatest fear and let her emotions get the best of her. The only thing she could possibly conceive was the spectacle of blood, it was repulsive to imagine it. Lolling in a puddle, or even on Halloween which eventually converted into Day of the Dead. The celebration was always worse for her, one costume many years ago had even sent her to her room, crying until the image remained no more. The bloodstained memory of the undead was still planted in her mind six years later. She didn't have much of a choice, but at least the celebration at Hogwarts stayed there. She could have a bit of pleasure herself.

Snickering at the sight of tension, the brunette opened her next book and began skimming its words, but the smirk didn't leave. There wasn't a single word that registered in her mind, for her enemy still remained in front of her, the same student that sent her into detention thrice. It would have been wrong to take her sights away from her, especially recalling the things she was capable of. She was already pushing her limits, well she was aware. Concerned, however? An emotion like such hadn't resurfaced in the years of challenging her, not on the outside, at least.

She rose her latest book to conceal her features. An impeccable, silver garnished, hardback publication. That was witchcraft for you. Any blemishes or split pages had been magically restored, but the Ravenclaw couldn't tell the difference. It was merely an assumption and those didn't get too far without evidence.

Ever since their first true encounter in the library, she had used the same temperament on the girl. A sense of surprise struck her, the unexpected flash in her eyes was enough to break character, however. It was a poignant tale, to say the least, but she felt no repentance for Aurelia. It would have been a stretch to say she earned it, but not even a girl like her deserved to carry anything like that for the remainder of life. She wouldn't admit it.

"No... There's not. Surprise." For once, she was taken aback, even unsure of how to respond. For every sarcastic remark, the teen always had a response waiting. Agitation or confusion? She didn't know how to react. She had stopped skimming the page, and she glanced up at her for a brief second, brows furrowed and gears rotating but powering nothing. Hating the feeling of holding the lower hand, she spoke. "What are you going on about? Humor me.
