Unanswered debts. Not for long tho!
This is a private rp between Hanako Tone and @Althea Valeden . This is a continuation?, of their time in the compartmentl'.Slight godmodding of Althea Valeden in this post has been allowed.
" Valeden, Althea! " He smirked from the Slytherin table when his betting buddy was finally called. She was right about him being in Slytherin, therefore he had lost their bet already. But one thing that could save him was if he too was correct about her placement in Ravenclaw.
Hanako was a confident lad. His luck was usually on point and he had no doubt the girl will be in-
" HUFFLEPUFF!" the sorting hat bellowed. With the Hufflepuff table cheering for Althea, she went to that table with ease.
At that moment, something in Hanako broke.
Hanako felt unpleasant chills down his spine as he recalled that horrid, not to mention, embarrassing moment where his confidence shattered into a million pieces.
Losing bets wasn't something he was used too. He relied on his luck and usually gets away with it anyway. Now he had to pay his price for being too cocky. He was lucky he didn't actually bet 30 galleons on this, but he wasn't so thrilled about what the new price was.
Doing one thing Althea wanted him to do without complaint. It sounded so small but to Hanako, it deeply terrified him. Even though Althea was a nice ally, he wasn't certain of the girl's true feelings towards him.
The words he used during their time in the Hogwarts Express were barely considered ' kind '. He called her an idiot for god sake! What if she was actually deeply hurt by that and will find this opportunity to destroy him?!?
Hanako's karma has finally visited. He needs to atone for all the other bets he played with the kids in his neighborhood. He wouldn't be surprised if the kids back then wanted to dunk him in slug goo after the embarrassing things Hanako forced them to do.
He could hear them laughing at him mockingly, right now. Disturbed, he rubbed the back of his neck, hoping to ease his nerves, muttering a string of " やれやれ..." やれ/yare : Good grief
So, it was understandable that Hanako would avoid Althea's whole presence at all costs. He's been at it for days. Changing his sleeping spots constantly if she was there, running to the other direction if she was walking towards him, ignoring her every time he felt her gaze on him. It was pure torture. He had so many nightmares about Althea that he was even losing sleep. That was how much his ignored debts were haunting him.
A tad bit of guilt seeped in every time he ignored her, but it was nothing he couldn't handle. He was relying on the fact that Althea was too skittish and reserved to attack him out of the blue. That was the only thing that kept his mind at ease.
Speaking of sleep, he thinks he should really get some in his next class. It was like he was hearing his name being called out by a familiar voice. He chuckled as he kept walking his normal pace.
But then he heard it again, and he got scared. Fearing the worst, he turned his head to see if his nightmares were coming true.
There stood Althea in clear daylight, her eyes pierced straight at Hanako's eyes. He would be delusional if he told himself she was looking at someone else. It looked too sharp as if her target was locked and she was ready to attack.
His eyes screamed fear but he allowed himself to laugh wearily. " やれやれやれやれやれやれ-" he sprinted like his life depended on it.
His tiredness has gotten to the point he didn't even care if he didn't look cool at the moment. That's when you know he's truly sleep deprived.

Althea was walking in the hallways, reading her charms textbook as she did. She was looking at the book, but she was focused on something else.
After the sorting ceremony, Hanako has been avoiding her like the plague. He would bolt the opposite direction when he saw her, he would literally excuse himself from classes that he had with her...It was starting to make Althea feel bad.
Had she done something wrong? Why was he so mindful of her? Althea has these questions stuck in her head all week, and she had barely managed to keep her emotions in check. Alex kept assuring her that Slytherins are just being Slytherins, but this socially awkward Hufflepuff was getting more and more worried yet mad at Hanako by the day.
Sighing, Althea closed her book and looked down at the ground. Honestly, she was concerned as for why such a confident person would act this way around her. Hanako was bothering her so much that she would think too much that she would ram into someone every day.
As if the entities heard her woes, on the opposite side of the hallway, was a certain dark haired, Japanese boy. Althea stared at him. For the first time in weeks, she had seen him for more than ten seconds. He looked awfully tired, and he seemed really alert. His robes were also a bit folded around the edges. At that moment, Hanako turned and locked eye contact with her.
Althea’s eyes widened as she noticed that. She noticed fear in his eyes. Her heart sank at that for some reason.
" やれやれやれやれやれやれ-" Hanako chuckled his signature phrase, before dashing away with a hint of panic. Althea felt something in her snap.
She immediately chased after him, running after him at the speed light. “Hanako Tone, get back here!” Althea yelled after him, with her wand out and book in her arms. Her voice might have sounded a bit desperate, and to be fair, she was a bit desperate. She wanted to know the reason why he was ignoring her so that her socially awkward self would not overthink it.
As Althea got a bit tired, she decided to do next best legal thing that would not get her expelled but able to catch up to Hanako. She flung the book at his head. Surprisingly, her aim was accurate for once and the book hit him squarely at his spine.
Hopefully, Althea didn’t kill Hanako.

Unanswered debts. Not for long tho!
It was unfortunate for Hanako to think he knew Althea enough to know she wouldn't do something like chucking a thick textbook at him.
The moment the sudden force hit his back, the Tone lost his balance. It wasn't that inpactful, thank god. But it still managed to make Hanako stumble and fell on the floor. Nothing felt like it bruised, but he took a while to get his tired brain to process what just happened.
Instead of getting up and running again while he still had the chance, he positioned himself to face his attacker. Hands supporting his back and mouth slightly agape at what just happened.
" Did you just threw a book at me? " Hanako would've laughed at himself for sounding so surprised, not to mention offended. It wasn't like him to say things without that cheerfully annoying tone he always used. But being sleep deprived and all could cause Hanako to change a lot than his usual composure. The real truth to why he always tries to get extra sleep, in fact.
" You just threw a book at me " he repeated, staring straight up at Althea as if he still couldn't believe what happened. He took the said book and showed it to Althea, with his eyebrows slightly knitted, he said in a more tired than frustrated tone, : " A charms textbook? Do you hate me that much? What have I done that made you throw this monstrosity at me?"
He could think of a couple of reasons himself, to be honest. Especially when he ignored her for a while now. Not to mention he deliberately ignored his debt to her after losing their bet. But what else could a cowardly Slyherin first year do? He sure as hell believed it was completely understandable that he was just saving his skin and pride.

Althea frowned as she squatted down and faced the Japanese boy on the ground. "I don't hate you, dummy. That's the only thing I had on hand just now, I'm sorry," She muttered, though her apology was barely a whisper at the end.
Althea then stared at Hanako. She noticed the changes in him. He no longer wore his signature cheeky and mischievous grin, his voice sounded tired and he looked irritated. She was 90% clueless to why he was this way, but then she remembered something when she noticed the colour of the boy's tie. Memories of the bet the two made on the Hogwarts Express flashed through her mind.
Realisation dawned upon Althea. Was Hanako.... afraid of what she would do to him as he lost the bet? She then looked him up and down, finally reaching her needed conclusion. "Hanako, are you... scared of what I would do to you because you lost the bet?" Althea asked, sounding a bit offended yet surprised. Her expression laced with curiousity and a bit of hurt as she stared at him.
Althea waited a moment, before pouting and beginning to speak once more. "You know, I wasn't going to do anything bad to you. I wanted to ask you if you wanted to call off the bet, since I thought you didn't like losing to a socially awkward nerd that ended up in Hufflepuff like me," She admitted, propping her head up with her left hand, "But my request is simple. Can you at least hear it first?"
Althea let out a small chuckle as a slight smirk tugged at her lips. If she was like Alex, who would let all hell loose when his brother and him had bets, then she would have had Hanako yell profanities in the great hall like how any of her seniors would have done.
But, Althea didn't need to ask to know that Hanako had his pride and she learnt that a boy like him would be crushed if he was forced to do her bidding. Besides, they were so-called 'business partners', so the request she made was technically and most likely, harmless.

Unanswered debts. Not for long tho!
Upon hearing her atrocious conclusions, he stood up rapidly. Dusting off his robes and fixing them as if it would make him look more like a dignified student than a paranoid hobo.
Avoiding eye contact with his business partner, he tried to speak in more of a gruff, serious tone. And he was failing miserably with his high pinched tone. " Scared? Hah! As if. I've just been busy with homework and studying that I had no time to talk to anyone. Thus, my earlier run. Do not think I ran because of you ".
He convinced his tired brain that this was a great lie, but it was clear if he thought it through, it was the worst excuse he could make.
Studying? Him? Those two words to not go together. There was no way Hanako would run to study, in fact, it was the opposite. But alas he failed to remember. At the moment, he was extremely laughable.
" And off with those self deprecating labels, Valeden! " he scolded Althea as if she was a child that was doubting her own intelligence after getting her first B . " There's nothing wrong with being a Hufflepuff. In fact, I'm deeply jealous of your luck. If you remembered, I did say I would love to get into Hufflepuff but I just had to be stuck in a snake den."
He revealed, as he peered down since she was still on the ground. " And get up for godsake, we're all equally amazing here. I'll only give you a chance to tell me your request if I can see you eye to eye ".
Hanako, felt like he might have scared Althea with his change in personality. But there was a time to be himself, and time to be another version of himself. He was just too tired and secretly embarrassed he got attacked by a book to be playful right now.
Currently, the version he used was the one that opens up when his siblings do something incredibly stupid, or when he was hiding his embarrassment. Two very rare occurrences in the first place.

" Scared? Hah! As if. I've just been busy with homework and studying that I had no time to talk to anyone. Thus, my earlier run. Do not think I ran because of you," Hanako chuckled nervously in a high-pitched voice. Althea raised an eyebrow at him, "Sure, Tone, sure..." The boy stood up quickly and dusted himself off, but she decided to stay on the ground since she didn't exactly have a problem with her position.
Althea had expected this. She obviously expected Hanako to deny the fact, but what she didn't expect was when he started scolding her about how she speaks lowly of herself. He also started admitting that he wanted to get into the yellow house, but managed to get plopped into the green house. Althea vaguely remember him saying something like that on the train, yes. Something about him, and his love for plants.
"I remember that you told me about it. Got yourself any enemies in that den by any chance? I think the one I knocked down yesterday during class had already started plotting against me," Althea asked casually, looking up at Hanako with a small smile. Indeed, this child had a certain habit of banging into others. She also had quite the method of ending the case to. Once, she had yelled "Are you sorry" at a person because her seven year old brain back then couldn't decide between "Are you okay" and "I am sorry".
"And get up for godsake, we're all equally amazing here. I'll only give you a chance to tell me your request if I can see you eye to eye," Hanako suddenly mumbled, staring down at her. Althea's eyes widened at that. She didn't expect that, especially coming from someone like him. She chuckled as she picked herself up from the surprisingly clean floors of the hall. "Glad you find me amazing. The professors couldn't disagree more," Althea murmured, dusting herself off.
"Anyways, I have been pondering with the favor," The girl began to say, "And, I decided that I shall not make you yell that you want to drive a tank in the great Hall during breakfast that I wanted to make my childhood comrade do." Althea couldn't help but smile at that. Alex was actually willing to do so, in fact.
After a short pause, she continued.
"I decided that my request is for you to give me a chance to be an actual friend."

At the mention of his enemies, Hanako snorted. " Oh Valeden, you have no idea ". It was inevitable that Hanako managed to snag himself some enemies with the way he acted, but Althea making them angry? He didn't say anything more about the subject, but he showed her a reassuring smile. Telling her she didn't need to worry about any bullies, as there was no way his enemies were that petty.
When Althea stood up and retorted his statement, his face changed to slight irritation but that was it. He pressed didn't press the matter as there was no use. Any compliment that was directed to her would fall on deaf ears. It wasn't his job to make her understand it.
"I decided that my request is for you to give me a chance to be an actual friend."
" Hm? Say what? " he quickly asked after letting that sentence buffer in his head.
Once she realized she wasn't joking, he showed his annoyed face. The one she didn't get to see on the train due to their ride under a tunnel.
Before she thought it was her fault and starts muttering out pointless apologies, he quickly massaged his temples and said in the kindest voice he could muster.
" I rather drive that tank and run it over my favorite teacher "
Those words didn't seem right either. He held up his hand as a 'wait' sign to Althea before he further explained his point.
" You're making a huge mistake here, Valeden. Just because I was slightly nice to you on the train, doesn't mean I won't push you down when I feel like it. You're wasting a gigantic chance here for something entirely dumb and useless. We're already business partners and we agreed we could use our names to tell our parents we made a new friend, what have I ever done that made you think I wanted to go further than that? Have I not made my views on friendship clear on the train or must I say it again? "
He bent down slightly to see eye to eye with Althea and invaded her personal space, guessing she probably valued it a lot. What better way to make someone hate you by doing something they didn't feel comfortable with?
" Then I'll do the honor of reminding you. Dangerous, annoying, petty, tiring , those are barely half of the things that come to mind when I hear the word ' friends'. There is no one alive today that I openly consider a friend, and why don't you guess why little bluebird? ~ " He gave her a chilling smile before he took a step back with a big grin.
" Ding ding~ Correct! My personality resembles that of a dumpster in the stinkiest city in the world. Whatever it is ~" He sent her an innocent smile as he continued in a playful yet laced with a sharp seriousness, to prove he wasn't joking. " I hoped that made you rethink your decision. I may run away from bets, but when faced with them any way I do what is needed. So pick another bet, birdy. "
He lightly tilted his head and looked up the sky for a few seconds, thinking. " Oh, perhaps you're still persistent. I can't stop you then since you won fair and square. But I assure you, you will regret it soon enough ". He warned, despite his kind tone.
Despite his act of confidence, he was shaking inside. There was no way he was going down without a fight, but the mere suggestion of having a friend had his mind screaming in protest.
While trying to freak Valeden out, he had to constantly tell himself it was for the best. The bluebird frightened him with her suggestion and it was fair to frighten her back. Jusst making another human despise him for his own selfish desires, nothing new.
There was no lying in his big speech. He was as honest as a polygraph machine, he just left stuff out. But he made it clear that he was not on board with her request for personal reasons.

Althea stared at Hanako with an unimpressed look the entire time he started ranting on and on about how he did not agree to this and would rather be run over by a tank by his lesst favourite professor. Althea let out a cough to cover his laugh at that. Alex would be pleased to hear that he gets to drive over a Slytherin one day.
When Hanako started to speak of friends in a rude way, not to mention the unpleasant way he started to bring up their temporary alliance or partnership, Althea laughed. She knew, she did. She wondered why she actually wanted to be friends with this Japanese child, but she knew that she just wanted to be friends for the sake of being friends. Althea didn't know much of society, yes, which was why she wanted to experience it now while she still had time...Even if it is with a prat that loves to smile creepily and fling insults at her... It would be an advantage in the future though.
She felt extremely annoying at this point, as being the weirdo she was, kept on staring at him with a smile as he procceeded to talk about his personality compared to a dumpster.
"No bull, sherlock. Your personality could poison the seven seas and sink Atlantis all over again," Althea muttered under her breath with a cough, remembering how her parents wonce spoke of 'toxic friends', shivering at the thought of Hanako's nickname for her. Though, Althea actually liked the fact that Hanako was royally sarcastic, insulting, not to mention devious. It made her a bit more willing to socialise.
"Oh, perhaps you're still persistent. I can't stop you then since you won fair and square. But I assure you, you will regret it soon enough," Hanako taunted, his words betraying his tone.
Althea coughed with a hint of a smirk, "Believe me, I would have asked you to bring Alex down to your common room if I wasn't prepared for this." She then looked at the boy straight in the eyes and teased with a mischievous smirk, "Your trashy personality keeps me sane enough to keep up with this society, so keep lending me some sanity, Tone."

He hid his shook and confusion by staring at the little bluebird like she was a tedious puzzle he had to solve.
An assortedly mixed combination of personalities, Valeden was. One second, she's apologizing to someone that bumped into her, and the next, she's calling people's personality trashy. Not that she was wrong, it was just a silent rule that the only one that could talk himself down, was himself.
It was clear that the image of Althea he had in his memory was completely false, and there was more to the girl than apologies and self-deprecating jokes. He wasn't determined to find out more, but since they were going to be friends he might as well.
After a small smile sent at her, he patted her head like she was a child. " Very well, Birdy. You've gained a friend. Although I am curious as to why you couldn't pick a nicer friend, I guess that's something I learn as we continue to be friends. "
He retracted her hand and bent down to pick up her forgotten charms textbook. " I'm confiscating this until I'm in a better mode " he casually declared, as he hid the book under his school robes before Althea could react.
Without as much as another look at the Bluebird, he started walking back to his original direction. " Come on, Birdy. Slytherin and Hufflepuffs have Transfiguration soon. I was planning to sleep in that class but you can de-bore me with more details of this bet you placed on me. Chop chop ~".
He continued walking, assuming Althea will be walking by his side sooner or later. Tired as he was, he wanted to listen to all the details and make any possible plans to get out of this bet.
" Ah yes, I'll spray you water if you walk behind me." He seriously warned before walking ahead again. He quickly took out the small water spray he had in his pocket and placed it into Althea's eye view for a second before putting it back.
In hidden truth, he just wanted the Bluebird to be confident enough to wake by him. Now that they were ' friends ', there were certain but petty things that Hanako could not tolerate. This was one of them. Valeden asked for this, he was just fulfilling his end of the deal.

" Very well, Birdy. You've gained a friend. Although I am curious as to why you couldn't pick a nicer friend, I guess that's something I learn as we continue to be friends," Hanako sighed, seeming alright with the idea. He then proceeded to pat her head, making the girl flinch.
Althea gave a fixed smile and a half-hearted laugh, "That was weird. Also, stop calling me that, Tone, it is creepy."
"I'm confiscating this until I'm in a better mood," Hanako then said, tucking her charms textbook under his robes. Althea pouted, whispering a few more unsincere apologies about earlier.
But then, the boy reminded her of their Transfiguration lesson that was about to be in session. Althea gasped, realising that the boy was right.
Hanako then started walking, so Althea started to follow behind. She was tired from just now, and she offically did not want to know how the sleep-deprived boy could even walk so fast. Suddenly, Hanako made a threat about how he was going to spray at her water if she stalked behind him. Althea let out a cough to show her much-felt offence.
She did jog to catch up to him, though, trying her best to keep herself from falling on her face. "Don't spray me with water, Tone, I am not your neighbourbood stray cat," Althea muttered, letting out a 'hmph' at that. She smirked a little at it, finding the half-hearted insults quite amusing. At least now she had someone else to be running after if she was lonely and needs help for homework.

Althea gave a fixed smile and a half-hearted laugh, "That was weird. Also, stop calling me that, Tone, it is creepy."
"I'm confiscating this until I'm in a better mood," Hanako then said, tucking her charms textbook under his robes. Althea pouted, whispering a few more unsincere apologies about earlier.
But then, the boy reminded her of their Transfiguration lesson that was about to be in session. Althea gasped, realising that the boy was right.
Hanako then started walking, so Althea started to follow behind. She was tired from just now, and she offically did not want to know how the sleep-deprived boy could even walk so fast.
