A Little too Wet

Bree shivers slightly as she walks towards the great lake. Burying herself deeper into her sweater she finds a dry spot to put her stuff. Setting down her stuff, she reties her shoes and pulls her hair up into a messy ponytail. Smoothing out her leggings she starts to jog.Word count: 463

She's always been okay at running. She could run for a while without being breathless. This was due to her fathers daily runs before she went to Hogwarts. Bree was normally an early bird. She'd wake up around six and go downstairs. Her father would wake at 5 to do whatever he does at that hour. And by the time he was ready for a run at 6, she would be up and dressed to tag along with him. She found running with her father peaceful. They never talked during these runs (her father claimed to need quiet to focus on running) and it was always so quiet in the mornings other than the occasional bird singing. Finding peace in this she decided to join him every morning. But then when she got to Hogwarts the only time she ran was when she got detention. Here she found that the mornings weren't so quiet as at home. And she had no one to run with. So she just didn't do it. But when she heard that her grandma was sick and dying she started running again. At first it was a little more difficult than before but overtime it got easier.
So now that's where she is. Evening out her breaths and repeating, in through nose out through mouth in her head, she found her pace. As she runs she absorbs the sounds and nature surrounding her. Listening to the quiet rustle of leaves and greeting the cold but gentle hand of the wind she closes her eyes for a second. Suddenly she trips. Flying forward she hits something hard. Continuing to tumble forward, flies head first into the great lake. Water enters her nose and she swallows a gulp of water. Finally she submerges the surface, gasping for air. As she goes up she hears another splash. Turning around she spots another figure of a person making its way back to the solid ground. Following suit she pulls herself out of the lake and shivers. The lake was freezing! It felt like she decided to go for a bath outside in ice cold water during a snowy day. She takes off her sweater and wrings it out before turning towards the other person. When she turns around, she couldn't spot them at first. Spotting movement from the corner of her eyes she spots the person. The unsuspecting victim was in fact Derek. Her date to the fall ball and a wonderful friend.

Derek was walking along the perimeter of the Great lake, kicking at the rocks. He had wanted to visit his owl Perseus, but he was still sleeping in the Owlery. Derek gripped his satchel, seeking the comfort of his favorite books. But right now, he didn't feel anything coursing through him, just sorrow. He sighed. It must have been that he had read all of them so much he could, word for word, write it all over again.Speech/Unholy noise: Red
He sat near the Lake, enjoying the cool breeze that wafted from the north end. He wanted to do something, but he really didn't want to do anything that exerted himself, because he stayed up all night studying, and right now he wanted to sleep. You would think that a magic school would have soundproof beds, or at least soundproof dorms, but nada. The snores kept him up when he wanted to sleep, so he came outside.
The water rippled slightly, and the morning sun made it more beautiful. Derek wanted to go to the Forbidden Forest, but he calculated that it would be too dangerous in his state. Instead, he remained in this position, just inhaling the cool, crisp air. He exhaled, opened his eyes, and saw someone he was very familiar with: Bree Grey, his best friend and date to the Autumn Ball. She was running around the Great Lake, just focused on he rhythm and herself. He closed his eyes. Bree deserved some me-time, especially after she got word her grandmother was dying-BAM! Bree slammed into him and they both fell into the Great Lake, arms flailing about and their throats unleashing vicious screams in tandem.
Sploosh. The water was peaceful, and he watched as the delicate bubbles float around him. No, not really. The water was murky, and there were no fish, much less delicate bubbles. Instead, the only bubbles were ones that he unleashed from his mouth when he choked on a gallon of the filthy water. "Gah!", Derek burst through the murky water, gasping heavily for air. "Crap. Crap" He cursed voraciously, swimming to the edge. He was no Olympics swimmer, but he was decent, because his family's summer home had a river nearby, and he loved to play in it. Derek noticed Bree was swimming to the edge, and when she reached the edge and got enough air to not pass out, he cracked a smile and said, "Isn't this a brilliant way to get refreshed! I feel wonderful.

After swimming to shore, she watches Derek carefully making sure he got there too. He makes it there a few seconds after (or before but she wont admit that) when he smiles and comments on it being a good way to get refreshed. Shrugging, she wrings out her hair and clothes. Shivering once more, she looks around and smile in relief on she sees they landed near her stuff. Telling him to give her a moment, she quickly heads over to her stuff. Reaching into her satchel she pulls out her wand. Muttering, Aer Calidus, she dries her clothes off. Walking over towards Derek she does the same.Word count: 419

Sitting down next to him she smiles shyly at him, "Sorry I bulldozed you into that glacial pool. It's freezing in there and probably isn't pleasant to be interrupted that way when you were doing..." She pauses and tilts her head as she thinks. What was he doing? "Wait what were you doing?" Turning towards him suddenly she smiles at him, "Well I hope it wasn't too important. You still have your wand right? Didn't lose it in the lake?"
The morning was still early, people fast asleep, animals tending their young, birds singing their soft lullabies, sending the people back into a deep slumber. Mornings have a peace that she wished would last forever. No conflict to ruin the tranquility of the morning. But This quietness ends once the sun peeks a little bit higher above the mountains.
Leaning back on her hands, she admires it all. A slight breeze passed, the sharp sting of the coldness hits her like a punch to the stomach. Shivering, shes grateful that their clothes are dried, although misses the warmth of it. Angling her body towards Derek, she reluctantly drags her gaze away from the view to his face. "So are you normally up this early? Like I get up every morning to run around the Great lake. It's a hobby that started with my father. And I joined him when I was younger. I guess its a part of me now. I feel empty when I don't run in the mornings." Pausing she bites her lip and watches him for a minute before speaking once more, "Have you ever had something like that?"
As she listens to his answer, the world around the rises. Chattering fills her ears as students pour out of the buildings. Complaining from the lazy ones, tiredness from the late nights and excitement for what today will be.
