An Unexpected Enounter?
Today was a bright day though a little bit chilly. The sky was not fully blue yet clear like an autumn sky. Going outside was refreshing. This kind of days were one of Rose's favourite days during fall. As she was in the library the day before she was wondering how could The Great Lake be.
Thus she decided today would be the day she were having a walk to The Great Lake. She was curious and wanted to explore as many as she could. She put on her winter wizard coat and headed outside toward the lake. As she was walking she met many pupils walking, talking and laughing which made her smile but inside she felt a twinge in her heart as she was wishing for the same. She didn't let negative thoughts took over and she continued walking briskly.
The way to the Great Lake was agreeable to walk and was surrounded by large tree whose leaves had turned red, orange and yellow making it beautiful. She shortly arrived at the Great Lake and got amazed at how big it actually was -of course she knew it was big- but seeing it with her own eyes in front of her it seemed even bigger and deeper. The bright fall colours could be perfectly seen on the trees of the opposite bank making the scenery magical. It seemed as if it came straight out of a fairy tale.
Rose decided to start walking on the bank of the lake, and was about to seat down after a while when she heard behind her "Excuse me...".

An Unexpected Enounter?
All this time, Zephyr was sitting up on a tree branch just right above the lake. He liked it there because it was peaceful and since no one was around at that time, he could reflect on his own, and listen to the sound of the water. It helped clear his head after a long week of lessons and homework. He didn’t really expect anyone to come by this part of the lake, as most of the students stayed closer to the castle.
He leaned back against the trunk as he zipped his jacket up to his neck. It was a bit cold at that time, but he didn’t mind. He actually felt good and he liked this kind of weather. it was better than being stuck in a crowded common room sometimes. His feet dangled freely below him, and every now and then, he would toss a small twig into the water below and just watch the ripples spread. He was not thinking about anything in particular, just how different this place was from home. In Swansea, he would usually help his dad fix a fence or feed the chickens by now. in here, there were owls flying around the school, ghosts that were floating through the hallways, staircase that were moving on their own accord and portraits that talks to you when you pass by. He was still getting used to all that.
Then he spotted someone walking by the bank, a familiar figure. It took him a second to recognise her from his vantage point — the boat ride to Hogwarts. Rose. They haven't talked much since then, but he remembered their first conversation clearly. They ended up sitting next to each other on the boat and began discussing their names and what they meant. They both talked about which houses they considered, though neither of them had been sure.
The girl looked so deep in thought while walking slowly by the lake. He actually considered staying quiet and letting her be, since she looked peaceful, and it would be rude to interrupt. But then again, it would be weirder if she found out he was sitting up here the whole time and didn't say anything. He would probably look like some creep hiding in a tree. He sighed and rubbed his palms together, debating whether to do it or not. It’s worse to stay quiet, might as well say something. He cleared his throat first to warn her, just loud enough for her to hear. “Excuse me… didn’t think I would see you here today.” He shifted on the branch, careful not to fall. “How are you, Rose?”
He waited and just studied her expression. “You happy with the house you got sorted into?” It was good to see someone familiar. Most people were still strangers to him, and small talk was not really his thing, but he was trying for the sake of having friends.

An Unexpected Enounter?
As she was bending down to seat someone's voice echoed to her ears. Singularly she was not unfamiliar with this voice she has already heard somewhere. She turned around only to see a boy perched in a tree. Rose chuckled at this view before the boy continued to speak.
She was remembering him well. Light skin slightly tanned and light brown messy hair. It was Zephyr. The boy from the boat on the first day coming to Hogwarts. Actually the first person she talked to here.
Since the sorting ceremony they hadn't really seen each other nor talked again. It was indeed some times that went by so she felt quite happy to see him again.
Besides she was even more surprised he remembered her. She thought it was easy to forget the first person you met since you get to know other people and got busier with everything going on around here. Especially when people don't get to meet again.
Rose kind of liked talking to him when they first talk. She found him nice and easy to talk to. Remembering their first conversation made her chuckle again a little.
Today since she wasn't expecting on seeing anyone while coming here, finding him sitting in a tree up there was quite unexpected to her as well. She playfully told him.
"I didn't know you were a bird in another life.
Or is it to be a better blowing wind from being up there?"
She looked at him before slightly pursuing answering to his questions.
"I guess I'm getting used to here like everyone else" she said with small awkward laugh.
She was quite never sure of what to answer when someone was asking her how she was doing. Rose always felt it was more of a polite way to start of a conversation than a real concerned question to which she could truly tell how she was doing and what was on her mind whether troubling her or making her happy. She thought it was quite tricky.
Of course she couldn't assume Zephyr's intentions since he might be genuinely and truthfully asking her.
"I got in Ravenclaw so I'm more than happy with it. If you can recall it was kind of my wished house. I couldn't be more satisfied! What about you? Do you feel the same about your house?" she asked him with a gentle smile.
And she added.
"And me neither I wouldn't have hoped to see you around here...especially, or at all..." she shyly said while looking away from his gaze and almost murmuring the last part.

When Rose turned around, Zephyr couldn’t help but grin at the look on her face, her reaction was a mixed of surprise and amusement. But she wasn’t annoyed or anything and instead chuckle at seeing him there so he relaxed in his spot. He was glad she didn’t think he was some weirdo hiding up in a tree. There goes her teasing again, he was slowly learning she likes doing that? He was just not sure if it’s just with him or with everyone she’s comfortable with.
He laughed and shook his head. “Maybe a mix of both, but mostly just trying to find a quiet spot. Turns out the view’s pretty good from up here.” He grinned down at her. “You could say I’m keeping an eye on the wind’s territory.” She should know the last part was just a joke but he was definitely enjoying the fresh air, no doubt about that.
He found out it was easy to joke back with her. Talking to Rose had that same calm feeling it did the first night on the boats.
She openly said she was getting used to life at Hogwarts and he nodded in understanding about what she meant. “Same here, it still feels strange sometimes, but I think I’m settling in too.”
He listened while she spoke about her house, the pride in her voice was clear when she mentioned Ravenclaw. He remembered how she talked about it on the boat, and her family, and how it seemed to suit her. “That’s great then, you got what you wish for. You did say that’s where you hoped to be. The hat agreed with you.”
When she asked about him, he smiled. “I got into Hufflepuff, pretty much what I was expecting. It’s nice there. Everyone’s friendly and helpful, a bit loud sometimes, but I can’t complain. Feels like home already.”
The last part was added almost shyly, that she didn’t expect to see him there…. “How come? You don’t want to see me at all?” He was joking of course. “I didn’t expect it either, but I’m glad I did. I was starting to think I wouldn’t see any familiar faces from that first night. It’s nice to see someone you already know, even if it’s by chance. Glad it’s you I encountered today.” He didn’t mean it in a bold way he was just being honest. “Would you like to join me up here?”

An Unexpected Enounter?
"Hahaha, I didn't know the wind could have a territory. Are you by any chance the King of Wind then?" She playfully asked him.
"Though that wouldn't be surprising when you have a king name" she thoughtfully said to herself as her hand went up to her chin and she looked away as if she was in deep thoughts. Quite forgetting Zephyr could hear her.
Usually she was quiet and almost never saying out loud her thoughts as it is when she was getting to know someone. Indeed she tended to be careful of her words since she knew she could be clumsy with it. However since she had met Zephyr she couldn't help but let slip out everything that was on her mind while talking to him.
She couldn't remember any better the first time it happened with him. She was still feeling embarrassed about it.
Then Zephyr pursued with his feelings about being in Hogwarts and same as her he was also getting used to it. He also told her about his house Hufflepuff, the one he wanted to be in and how nice it felt to be there.
Feels like a home already. This words pronounced by Zephyr echoed in Rose's mind. But she brushed it off to not have negative thoughts about it.
She was glad he liked it there as she gently smiled at this.
Rose was taken out of her thoughts when she heard Zephyr's voice again jokingly asking about how she might not want to see him at all. Hearing him asking her this was all she was asking for to tease him.
She looked up right to him in the eyes -even though it was a bit far away-....she was about to say something when a thought came to her mind.
I haven't never ever really looked him the eyes, have I?
This thought flashed into Rose mind as she couldn't recall his eyes color. Was it indeed because she has never looked him directly in the eyes? Or if she did, didn't she really not pay attention to it at all? That would be surprising because she was quite a good observer.
So how come? She wasn't sure of the answer.
Suddenly Rose snapped out, she might have been looking at him without saying anything for way too long.
How embarrassing! she thought.
Not minding it and as nothing had happened, Rose put her mischievous look on before playfully saying.
"That's exactly why we haven't seen each other before. Maybe I was indeed avoiding you." A slight chuckle followed.
"Don't flat me, I'm sure you already have met many people and made some friends that you could have wanted to meet here instead of me" she added jokingly.
Internally she hoped for the last sentence not to be taken the wrong way and as an offense. However Rose was thinking Zephyr was getting used to her teasing, hopefully.
Suddenly, as unexpected as this encounter was he offered her to join him up there.
Rose felt dazed. She wasn't sure she heard him saying this right. She froze and looked at him.
She couldn't -and actually she didn't want to- say no. First not to seem rude, second because she was curious about the view and third that would be a good way to share something different than just talking feet on the ground. But was she really able to get up there?
She started to open her mouth to say something but no sound came out of it.
It isn't that high, is it? she thought.
But once up there how would I feel being some feet above the ground? she worried.
Indeed Rose was afraid of heights but she couldn't tell him that, she didn't want to.
"Oh...hum...well...sure...why not...I'm sure the view is breathtaking from up there..." Her voice was full of nervousness but she tried to hide it the best way she could for Zephyr not to notice how uneasy she was about the idea of getting up on a tree.
She started walking towards the tree, without having a clue on how to get up there, her face full of concerns.
It's going to be alright.
You can do it.
Don't worry, everything will be just fine.
It's not really that high.
He will help you.
It was all on her mind, trying to give herself courage as she was reaching the tree.

Zephyr laughed at being called King of Wind. “King of Wind? Now that’s a new one, maybe I should start asking people to bow when I walk by.” She then said something about him having a king name, and he caught it even though she probably didn’t mean for him to. He smiled to himself, pretending not to notice or hear anything. That was one of the things he had started to notice about her, she usually say whatever comes to her mind when she was comfortable, even if she didn’t mean to. It was kind of amusing as it was endearing.
She also told him she was getting used to Hogwarts, “It takes a bit, but it grows on you.” Because he felt the same way. The longer he stays, the more he’s becoming more familiar with everything, the less it feels strange. He liked his house, as well his classmates. “I met some good people already. We’ve got a few students who are planning to join this unofficial broom racing thing, and I’ll give it a try too.” He smiled, “Never thought I will be racing on a broom, but it sounds fun.”
Came her teasing again by telling him maybe she had been avoiding him. He laughed. “You? Avoiding me? I don’t think you could. The wind’s everywhere, remember?” And shook his head with his smile remaining on his lips. “I indeed met other people, and made a few friends. But that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to see you again.” He looked down at her with an honest smile. “You were the first person I talked to here, it’s not easy to forget that.”
She seemed to hesitate when he invited her up, but in the end she said yes, but her voice gave her away, it was a little shaky. The nervousness in her tone was obvious. “You okay? It’s not that high, promise. I’ll help you up.” He shifted to one side and pointed to a sturdy lower branch. “There’s a knot there you can step on, and the bark’s rough enough to get a grip. I’ll hold your hand if you need it.”
When she got closer, he gave her space so as not to embarrass her by guessing she might be scared of heights, but he could tell she was not completely comfortable. Still, he admired her for trying anyway. Zephyr smiled encouragingly. “You’re doing fine, Rose. Once you’re up here, you’ll see, the view’s really worth it.” Watching her try, he realized he liked being around her. She was funny and brave in her own way, always pushing herself despite feeling unsure. Leaving his sitting position, he waited for her and extended his hand downward, offering it to her and ready to pull her up if she needs it.

"That's an idea! You could try actually but don't expect me to bow when you walk by me." she said with a smirk.
Zephyr told her about him going to do a broom racing reminding her of her brother who was actually a good Quidditch player.
"Oh really? That sounds fun. When is it? Maybe I could come seeing you?" It was way too many questions at one time but Rose couldn't help it she was often doing it.
"Hopefully you won't fall off." She said with both a concern and joking tone while she was letting out small sigh. Obviously she wasn't wishing him to fell off the broom but it was her way to tell him to be careful without showing him directly that she cared more than thought -or than she should-.
When Zephyr mentioned wind was everywhere and then hard to avoid him she had to admit he got a point. But she wasn't letting him know it, yet at least.
"Hmm...everywhere? Outside of course. But inside, not everywhere. Unless you're not concerned about it while being inside anymore?" She asked with a questioning tone and look. She tried to remain serious but it was hard for her not to flash a small malicious smile.
It was so easy to joke with him and tease him that talking to him felt calming and easy as if there were no worries about what to say or not to say. Her thoughts slipping out all the time could tell enough about it.
As she reached the tree her mind full of her worries about getting up, she could hear Zephyr's advice and encouragements.
Rose slowly closed her eyes as she focused on her breathing to calm down and let the tension in her mind and body being released. She concentrated on everything that was surrounding her, every sound she could hear, every smell she could smell and the touch of the tree under her palm. She felt her heart slowing down a bit as she started to feel less nervous. She looked up to see Zephyr pointing at a branch where she could step on to help her get a grip to get up there.
She stepped on the knot and push herself up to grip the bark as she was hearing Zephyr encouraging her.
However, her hands were quite small and the bark wasn't completely dry. There was often fog in the morning and with the cool temperature humidity was remaining in the air along the day making the trees' bark a bit slippery. For Rose it was hard to take a grip on. Though she wasn't high she felt a bit scared of slipping and falling however she kept looking up and try to get a better grip, unsuccessfully.
Thankfully Zephyr's hand was already held out ready to help her. She shyly held out her own hand to take his.

An Unexpected Enounter?
Zephyr smirked when she said she wouldn’t bow for him “I thought you’ll be the one person who refuses. Every king needs someone to keep him in check.” he joked. Suddenly, she fired questions about broom and racing, surprising even him. He was amused by how fast she talked. “Oh…uh…yeah, it’s fun. They haven’t told us the exact date yet, but it should be soon. If you want to come watch, I don’t mind. It will be nice, actually.”
Her next comment that she hoped he wouldn’t fall off had a concern underneath. “I’ll try not to fall and do my best for my team.” Appreciating her worry more than he said out loud. The challenge about the wind not being everywhere indoors was met with a raised eyebrow, trying not to smile. “Actually, it is everywhere, be that outside or inside, it doesn’t matter. If there’s no air, you wouldn’t be able to breathe. Wind isn’t just outside blowing around, it’s the air around us all the time. So yes, even inside, you can’t avoid me.” He told teasingly.
He noticed the change in her expression as she approached the tree. There was worry to it now. For a time, he gave her some space to deliberate about her decision. In the end, she decided to try and finally stepped onto the knot in the trunk, and while she’s doing that, he stayed alert as his eyes followed her movements. “That’s it… good job.”
Noticing her grip slipping on the damp bark. Zephyr didn’t hesitate. “Rose…” leaning down a little more, “…take my hand.” The moment her fingers touch his, he wrapped his hand around hers firmly, enough to support her weight. “You’re okay. I’ve got you…” and gently pulled her upward while bracing himself with his other hand against the trunk. “Just hold on to me and step up. You’re not going to fall.” He had to acknowledge how much she trusted him enough to climb despite being scared.

An Unexpected Enounter?
As soon as Rose took Zephyr's hand she felt relieved knowing she couldn't fall since he was holding her firmly. Thanks to his encouragement and support she managed to gather enough courage to get up on the tree.
Rose's hand in Zephyrs seemed even smaller and she could feel it was a hand of someone who uses it a lot due to its roughness. Though it wasn't disagreeable and she found his hand warm which reassured her even more and gave her the feeling she could fully trust him.
As Zephyr's hand was firmly grabbing hers she was feeling its warmth going down her hand and wrist.
When Zephyr pulled her upward she was quite amazed at how strong he was to pull someone up this easily with one hand since he used the other hand for support on the tree. Even though Rose wasn't that heavy and she stepped up to push herself up helping him a bit still it was an effort which required to have some good strength.
She had finally managed to get up on the branch thanks to Zephyr and as soon as she realised she had succeed to get there she felt proud but also suddenly scared at this thought. She hasn't let go of Zephyr's hand yet and she was holding on it tightly. She forced herself not to look down but in front of her.
And indeed she has better done. The view was breathtaking.
From the ground the opposite bank already looked very beautiful but by being a bit high up the view was totally different. The trees seemed bigger and their colours appeared more tinted. She has always admired the colours of the leaves in autumn. So colorful that it was giving a warmth feeling in a cool weather.
Having this scenery in front of her she couldn't believe it her eyes.
"That's beautiful." she said her voice full of amazement and almost forgetting she was some feet above the ground.
What was also different from the view from the ground was the reflection of the coloured trees on the surface of the lake. Now it seemed Rose was finding herself above it allowing her to better discern the reflection.
Although the weather was fresh and slightly damp the sky was clear letting a few rays of sun to shine through and glitter lightly on the surface of the water.
Rose was smiling at this view as she felt the gentle cool wind brushing her face.
"I do understand now why you would rather be up there than staying on the ground. It's definitely more lively." she added in awe as her smile couldn't leave her face.
"And to think I almost missed that." she said with a small sigh as she lowered her head a bit...to only find herself looking towards the ground.
Her eyes widened when realisation hit her reminding her where she was actually standing. Her body tensed up as she held Zephyr's hand more tightly almost squishing it despite his hand being bigger than hers. She closed her eyes while frowning as she murmurs to herself.
"Dumbie."

As soon as Rose took his hand, Zephyr could immediately tell she relaxed. Her fingers were small in his, almost delicate, and the way she held on told him everything he needed to know, that she was scared, but she trusted him anyway. Because of that, he feels strangely proud. He adjusted his grip so she wouldn’t slip. His hands were rough from chores and farm work, and he wondered for a second if she found that uncomfortable, but she didn’t pull away. If anything, she held on tighter. Her hand felt warm, and the warmth traveled up his arm which he didn’t expect.
He pulled her up carefully, and even though she helped herself up, he still used a lot of strength which he didn’t mind. He was used to lifting heavier things back home and helping her was easy in comparison but meaningful in a different way. When she finally reached the branch and settled beside him, she didn’t let go of his hand, she held it tighter than before.
Zephyr stayed still and let her hold on until she wanted to let go. He thought it was the least he could do for her. When she finally took in the view, her expression changed completely. He looked at the scenery too, the leaves that already changed colors, the reflection on the lake, the way the sunlight hit everything. A part of him was thinking she looked even happier than the view itself, and that was nice to see. She said she understood why he liked sitting up there, “It’s peaceful and everything looks clearer and nicer from up here.”
She made a mistake of looking down and her body tensed up with her eyes widening. She grabbed his hand so tight he almost winced…almost. “Hey, hey… it’s alright. Don’t look down. Look at me…” he said softly. He shifted a little closer so she wouldn’t feel like she would fall backward. His free hand rested lightly near her back, not touching, just there in case she needed support. “You’re not a dumbie.” Yes he heard what she said, “You did great getting up here. Other people wouldn’t even try. Just breathe. I’m right here and I’m not letting you fall, okay?”
He paused and just watched her face. She was brave in her own way, funny, unexpectedly a tease, and she trusted him more than he expected for someone she barely knew. She made him feel comfortable. He didn’t even have to try too hard. He gave her another reassuring smile.“Whenever you’re ready, you can look at the view again. And if you want, you can keep holding my hand as long as you need.”
