A bookbag sat neglected against a small rock, with a Book of Spells book just barely peeping its head out. Beyond the bag was the owner of it, carelessly throwing and hitting rocks from a decently sized bat. It was repetitive and mundane to most probably, but Reid was an easily entertained individual. Perhaps he should be with his friends, talking about the latest gossip, studying, or something more than just sizing his strength.

But it was just what he needed, repetitive tasks that let him drone out and burn a few hours. Ever since his altercation with Erin, the rose colored glasses had lifted. But instead of being proactive about it, the student chose some sort of indifference. C'est la vie, that's life. It didn't hit him yet anyway, so he stuck to hitting rocks instead.

THWACK! It flew through the cool and crisp air, landing in the gentle sway of the lake ahead of him. Little did he know, he was going to end up letting go of the bat and launching it backwards. His grip had given up, white knuckles flushed a gentle pink hue against his flesh. There was a sound of wood hitting the rocks, but Reid's initial shock didn't allow him to see it. The scowling boy punctuated his frustration with a heavy and irritated sigh.

He whipped around to see where his bat had gone, nearly seeming like he was about to lose his head. But first, he had to make his way back. The rocks rocks under his feet were hard to navigate through without tripping, but he continued searching anyway. The smell of algae and the earthy smell of mud under his running shoes filled his nostrils.

But little did he know, his bat had decided to nestle itself behind a rock that covered it just right. "Ah, man!" He threw his hands up in the air. "Lost it again, can't believe I always do this." Reid chastised himself out loud, annoyed that he hasn't learned the last three times that he's lost his bat.

──────────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ────────────
Charlie had garnered somewhat of a habit of wandering. He did it well, he had to admit. Wandering had let him meet quite a few interesting people, and see dozens of brilliant new things.
The whole 'magic' thing was still rather new to him, his first year had been somewhat... secluded-- but he was finally starting to branch out a little, and make new friends- and reach out to new people and opportunities.

His walk to the lake was not an endeavour to find new friends, however. He didn't fully expect anyone to be out and about near the lake at the moment. It was more or less his escape to a more familiar surrounding. A mental break from his endeavours with a curious Hufflepuff and the unsettled Ravenclaw would be best. They were sweet, but being surrounded by girls all the time had given him somewhat of a large social exhaustion from the usual antics he'd been brought into.

He bounded down the beaten track with a small smile on his face. The forest reminded him of home, sun leaking through the leaves with the sound of birds and other creatures, and he hopped over the rocks and through the bends, not paying much mind as he saw the view of the lake in the distance, through the brush.

Not paying much mind until a rather loud THWACK! caught his attention. It sounded akin to a baseball bat- not something he was used to seeing (or, he supposed, hearing) at the magic school, which caused his run to quickly slow to a short jog, then a curious walk.

Investigating, he eventually forced himself out of the brush and onto the edge of the water, large stones dotting the coast of the lake, and in the distance, a boy looking around, rather confused.
"Ah man!" he heard in the distance. "Lost it again, can't believe I always do this."

Curious, Charlie pursed his lips, approaching slowly. "Lost what?" he asked, his thick texan accent breaking the otherwise silent air past the other's remarks.

I bid you adieu, until we meet again of course!

Strangers were not strange to him, but it was the accent that made him almost whip around and look at the boy not too far from him. He had questions too, but the student asked first, it would be kind of rude if he just ignored him right? But that accent was so jarring from anything he's heard at the school, he had full intentions on asking him about it later.

"Oh hey." He dropped the rock he had picked up, landing dangerously close to his foot with a 'THUMP'. "Did you see a bat on your way here? It's about this big, kind of dark, has a leather grip." he frowned. As he was describing it, he made full motions to show the stranger as much detail as he could give to him. "Erm, has Mjolnir on it." He seemed a little embarrassed about that fact as his voice lowered at the mention of the name, his bat's etching wasn't something he really shared.

It was cool - to him, but he didn't know if anyone else thought that. The reference seemed to go over people's head whenever he said that it had to do with Thor's hammer. The more he thought about it, the more he felt lame over it on top of the lost bat. Reid looked particularly displeased about the whole ordeal. This morning wasn't any better, he had gotten in a mild argument with another fellow third year and it was left unresolved.

The student hadn't eaten lunch either, so his mood was rather low. This was his only outlet since he didn't want to get on the field and interrupt the other team's practice by doing a few laps around the field. Now, he had nothing to use. This was becoming apparent to him and Reid just took a deep breath and sighed, slipping his hands into his pockets to exhale and relax his shoulder.

Little did he know, the bat was probably in Charlie's view, just not his.

"A bat? Like a proper one?" He cocked his head to the side, he'd only really seen the Quidditch ones before, and not up close. He let his eyes wander across the rocks, humouring the stranger until a shape caught his eye.
Tucked behind a rock just big enough to block the view from the boy, there was a leather grip staring Charlie down. He'd half expected to see a real bat, but it was one of those wide, dark quidditch ones the players used to smack balls across the sky. He hopped down the bank and onto the rocks, staggering his way over before grabbing it. "I don't reckon this happens to be it?" He held it up, reading the engraving as he did. Mjolnir. Norse mythology wasn't something he'd expected to hear about at Hogwarts, much less in the form of an etched bat. He was familiar, if not more than a little well-versed with mythology, his mom liked to read it to him, so the name got a genuine smile out of him, and he climbed over the rocks to approach the boy. "You a fan? Of the lighting god, I mean." He tossed the bat up, catching it by its barrel to offer the grip to the boy, extending his arm out to offer it.

As he'd made his way over, he'd noticed the hints of sour on his face. He didn't know this guy, though by the looks he'd suspect him a second or a third year- and he didn't look all but too happy. He wasn't going to pry, of course, but he was prone to trying. "You look a little upset- you alright?" He asked.

I bid you adieu, until we meet again of course!

"A bat? Like a proper one?" Reid rubbed the back of his head and nodded rather sheepishly since he was a little embarrassed over his show of emotions. But when Charlie pulled it out, it brought a wide smile to his features. "That's the one!" He met the student half way and gripped the end that was extended. His concern with the bat faded before he was more interested in Charlie's accent.

He waved his hand at the question about how upset he was, it was all the past now that he had his bat once more. "Fine, fine now. Thanks to you mate." He tucked it under his arm and crossed his arms slightly as he took a more relaxed stance. "Do you read the Thor comics? I dunno, I like him a lot. I thought it would be cool to name my bat after his hammer, it makes the Quidditch games more fun." he beamed.

Reid cleared his throat and stuck his hand out to shake his if he was willing to even shake hands in the first place. "The name's Reid. Where you from? I dun hear that kind of accent around here, kind of rare 'cos it's the first time I've heard it." It sounded something akin to one of the American English accents, he didn't know the geography enough to know.

But he knew what to associate it with, which was a cowboy. But he didn't know if the student would like being called 'Cowboy'. He probably sounded like an average English speaker, except with oddly sounding vowels. Midlanders had something going from them, he just didn't sound like someone from London.

Charlie handed the bat back with some care before resting his hands in the pockets of his trousers, watching the boy as he dismissed the concern. He pursed his lips and nodded. "It's no worries, though I can't imagine how it got all the way over there. Must've thrown it hard." He chuckled.
When he asked about Thor, his nod only continued- though he was more accustomed to the mythology books over the gods than he was the comics. The local library in his home town didn't have much in ways of comic book collections. "I reckon." He shrugged with a small smile. "I read a few of the comics, though my mom always had me reading the original mythos anthologies." It sounded a little pretentious when it came out that way, but he meant the best this the statement. "You're a quidditch player?" He then asked, curiosities plainly spread on his face. "'M learnin' right now, the rules n' stuff. Didn't have it where I'm from, but I like it." He was hoping to try out for the house team soon, though his know-how was still weak at best.

When the boy stuck his hand out, Charlie gladly took the grasp and shook with a firm, gentlemanly grip. "Nice to meet ya, Reid. I'm Charlie." He pushed a small smirk. It was nice talking to someone other than the girls for once. "'M From Texas, America. All the way 'cross the sea n' everything. I think I'm the only one here, as far as I'm aware." He took pride in the accent, and the effect it seemed to have on people and smiled. He retracted his hand to rest back in his pocket again. "How about you? Apparently more than a few people here put a real emphasis on the nationality." He thought back on the Scottish pride he'd been exposed to from his Ravenclaw friend, and he assumed on his very limited knowledge that Reid was English, though at this point, all the accents still sounded the same to him- mushed together into one foreign conglomerate.

I bid you adieu, until we meet again of course!

Nationality? He wasn't so well versed in that kind of stuff, but he knew where he grew up in. "I'm from Derby, lived there for a while up until recently. It's in the midlands. But I moved to Birmingham now." The way to tell his accent apart was some pronunciation, it was heavy and almost hard to understand if someone didn't listen close enough. But casual talk with someone other than a girl was nice on his part too, much of his school years were filled with female confidants. However, he didn't mind it, this was just a nice change of pace.

Plus in the deepest of his heart, he hoped to find more lads to befriend and hang around with. Sometimes girls brought trouble or drama! It was mean to think or say, but sometimes that became the case with some of the ones he's met. Drama was the last thing he wanted, he'd been avoiding it nearly the whole time he's been at Hogwarts.

"Texas is a cool sounding place, I think I know where that is on the map." He could probably take a short guess, remembering someone mentioning America's 'Wild West' once. All he could assume was that it was literally in the west of America. But nonetheless, he hoped that Charlie wouldn't have him prove it and show him how ignorant he actually was about the Americas. "So you're interested in Quidditch. You plan to try out for Quidditch someday? It's a fun sport." He seemed to pause at that statement.

"Well it's fun when you don't see people fall feet below us." Reid let out a nervous laugh and rested the bat against his shoulder. He wished he played more in the last games, but that would also mean that one of the beaters had been knocked out and that was no good. He liked playing, but he liked seeing his teammates stay conscious more often than not. But he didn't want to give Charlie the wrong impression of the game.

"I'd love to try out, once I'm a little more well-versed in the rules." He let out a long sigh, letting his hand run through his hair. "I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about the sport, though."
He'd been to a total of one game in his first year and had a few friends who played-- or were avid fans. It reminded him of the enthusiasm that a lot of his previous peers had with Football, although in Scotland, football wasn't football, was it? He'd been mostly on the front with female friends for his second year, barely spoke to his male acquaintances from time to time, but none of them had really explained much about the sport past that it was all done exclusively on brooms. "Falling, huh?" He asked a little wary. "Sounds pretty dangerous, what position do you play?"
His tone was a weak attempt to mimic someone who might actually know a thing or two about the game, sounding a little sarcastic as he looked to the other boy. He knew there were positions, like the Seeker and Chasers, and the conversation with a boy was more than refreshing from his recent endeavours with others.

The Texan found himself leaning against a rock as he waited for a reply, hands resting in his pockets and green eyes jumping from Reid to the lake, to the bat or the rocks.
