XXXIt seemed rather quiet for a Wednesday morning. Akari supposed a lot of people were in the Great Hall for breakfast. He was used to eating early, so he had already finished eating and was now wandering the corridors of Hogwarts. It was indeed his birthday, and Akari had no idea what to do for it. For now, he could settle for a nice walk. He hadn't told any of his classmates when his birthday was, and last year's passed by uneventfully. Every now and then, he would see a few stragglers or students who had slept in rush past. He had no set destination in mind, and was therefore walking up and down random staircases, trying to find the best vantage point to look at everything. He wished he had bought a camera to take some pictures.
XXXThe staircases of Hogwarts were fascinating. They moved around, reconnecting and disconnecting themselves from different landings of the levels of Hogwarts. Akari though it must be incredibly inconvenient when trying to get to class, but when you have lots of time to spare, like now, it was entertaining to venture through the maze of steps.
XXXThis kind of quiet, mellow atmosphere was unlike what Akari usually associated with Hogwarts. Hogwarts was a strange place, featuring different types of magics than Mahoutokoro. Specifically, the suits of armour that lined the corridors. Supposedly, they could come to life and protect the school, which sounded almost ludicrous. Hundreds, if not thousands of metal suits, all uniting together under one enchantment centuries old? Even with the legendary tales of the founders of Hogwarts, the thought was unfathomable.
XXXAlso the paintings, some of which occasionally insulted you. But Akari decided to ignore that part. If you smiled sweetly and delivered them a backhanded compliment, they'd splutter long enough for you to walk away. He found them rather hilarious, but was also glad that he didn't have to deal with them on a daily basis. Akari examined one of the torches mounted on the walls, watching the firelight flicker and sway. Was this really the best thing he could be doing right now? Probably not. But Akari didn't want to get involved in any drama, and surely a mostly-empty corridor couldn't bring any. He hummed slightly, adjusting his robes. I wonder if any magical creatures live inside Hogwarts, other than pets. Or is there a place where pets can go to play with each other? When in boredom, turn to the animals.

Leo had woken up early that day, choosing to stay in bed reading until they were allowed to leave the common rooms for breakfast. He enjoyed a quiet breakfast before the bulk of students began showing up. With so many guests in Hogwarts for the upcoming ball, the school was even more livelier than usual with people seemingly all over and not many places to enjoy a quiet moment alone.
After leaving the Great Hall, Leo had planned to find somewhere to sit and read or draw until it was closer to the time to go to classes. As he wandered through the corridors he came up to the moving staircases which usually bothered him when he was trying to get somewhere and would constantly be moving somewhere else, which sometimes he swore was on purpose, but today he decided to let the stairs guide him to where to go. He walked about halfway up the staircase and held on as it began moving to a different landing and followed it up as it led him to a different corridor.
He wandered past some paintings, ignoring their antics for right now as he searched for somewhere to go. Surely there had to be a spot to go that no one would disturb him. Leo glanced around, turning a corner and accidentally bumping into someone. “I’m so sorry,” He immediately blurted out as he checked to see if the person was alright and saw that they must have been one of the international students that was visiting. Although he had other plans for his morning he decided to try to put a friendly face on as they were hosting these students as their guests, something he had been picking up from his family when they hosted guests at their house or went to another family’s house for parties and gatherings. “Did you need some help or anything?” He asked quietly as he offered his hand out to the other. “My name is Leo by the way.”

XXXAkari had been examining where the corner of a suit's pedestal had chipped slightly when he felt a sudden impact and heard someone exclaim an apology. He very narrowly avoided toppling over.
XXX"Oh no, no worries!" he replied automatically, catching himself with a hand to the cobbled stone floor and standing back up with a wry smile. "To be fair, that wasn't the best place I could have been. Are you alright? I didn't knock you into the armour, did I?" He didn't seem to have gained an injury from the collision, but Akari knew it was easy to hide minor pains. The boy standing in front of him held out his hand and introduced himself.
XXX"It's a pleasure to meet you, Leo," Akari said, dusting his hands off and grasping his hand lightly after a second, shaking it and bowing slightly after letting go. Handshakes were still somewhat uncommon in Japan; although they were becoming closer to standard practice, Akari still wasn't quite used to it. "My name is Akari Kabukimono," he continued. "And... no, I don't think I need help, but..." Akari glanced around the hall. "...do you happen to know how to get to the Astronomy Tower, perchance? I was hoping to visit it later, but I'm afraid there are just too many corridors to navigate through. Honestly, it's a wonder how you all can get anywhere."
XXXHe smiled to make it clear he was joking. Hogwarts was a fascinating place, but almost everything was hidden away! When he had visited last year, he had mostly stayed at the Campgrounds and Grounds, so the inner workings of Hogwarts were still quite unfamiliar.

After the sudden impact into the boy standing there, Leo was quick to make sure he was okay, looking him up and down and checking to make sure he didn’t knock anything to the floor. He looked at the suit of armor as the boy pointed out that he shouldn’t have been standing in the way of traffic while looking at it. Leo chuckled and nodded, turning to face the boy again. “I wasn’t paying much attention either but at least no one got hurt right?” He was definitely grateful that he didn’t seem to accidentally hurt the boy with his clumsiness.
When Leo introduced himself and reached his hand out to shake he noticed the boy’s reaction to the gesture and figured he must not do them where he’s from. Despite that the boy, who introduced himself as Akari, still took his hand to shake it to be polite and gave him a slight bow as well after. “It’s nice to meet you too Akari, sorry we had to meet like that.” Leo joked, rubbing the back of his neck.
Hearing Akari’s dilemma, Leo immediately sprung to action so he could help. “Oh yeah, I can point you in the right direction.” He said and gestured down the hall. “Follow me.” Leo started leading the boy down the hallway, glancing to the side to look at him every once in a while. He hadn’t met many international students but he always wondered what the other magical schools were like. But for now he focused on guiding the lost student to his destination. “What are you going up to the Astronomy Tower for, if you don’t mind me asking?” He asked curiously as the two walked the hallway together.
