~A dance at dawn~ Closed

Kayden heard what she said, and turning towards her, he saw her devilish grin. Oh god she knows. Not like I was hiding it very well. She was giving him the, "I know exactly what's going on here" look. Seeing this, he shot her back a "I know that you know but she doesn't need to know so let's not tell her alright?" Kinda look. How he hoped she understood. "I'm from a small town in England." He said, slightly more confidently. Growing up as an only child took away his ability to properly speak to anyone, let alone pretty girls. He studied Willo more carefully. He would have to watch this one. She would be the one that would awkwardly make the, sit next to one another, or leave them alone without a reason. In a nice way of course. Hopefully. Hufflepuffs were known for being nice and well mannered, but this one had a glint in her eye. One Kayden wouldn't mistake. He was grateful he had gotten his emotions under control, but he was unsure of what to do next. Talking to girls wasn't exactly his specialty.

Ariana stood up and brushed the dust of her hands on her robes as she got over her embarrassment,  her long brown hair had fallen over her face and she brushed it impatiently behind her ears, her cheeks still hot with embarassment. She felt the blush leave her cheeks and she looked up into the girls face, smiling gently she said "Oh yeah i'm fine just...er practicing for the..ummm valentines dance thingy.." She trailed off and mentally facepalmed as she flushed again at her lame excuse. The girl didn't seem to notice though and Ariana continued to ramble on. “I'm Ariana by the way” She tilted her head to the side slightly as though scrutinizing the girl and then said, “Oh! Your Wren Caster! I've seen you around!” Ariana paused, hearing voices behind her. She whirled around, scanning the room with her bright, green eyes and her breath caught in her throat as she spotted three other first years sitting at the side on the ballroom, on the small delicate chairs. One of them she recognised as a fellow gryffindor, the other a nice ravenclaw girl she had seen in a few of her classes and the third girl was a kind hufflepuff who smiled at Ariana kindly as she walked over. "Hello!" She said brightly, plonking herself in a chair beside them, "Im Ariana'' She held out her hand gently to shake theirs, grinning happily at them all.

'So many people, it's starting to become too much' Sage thought to herself. It was becoming too much, she looked at everyone but shook Ariana's hand "I'm Sage" she said.

'Do not worry Sage, you've got this. Just smile and be friendly' She thought to herself again and took a deep breath, having a bit more confidence as she looked at Kayden, Ariana, and Willow. Flipping her hair out of her face and over her shoulder as she wiped her sweaty palms on her robes. Perhaps it was just Kayden making her nervous. Valentine's Day was close, maybe he'd ask her, otherwise, she'd just be alone.

She sighed as she looked at all three of them and tried to seem friendly, smiling and trying her hide the blush in her cheeks and her sweaty palms. Maybe she should just get up and leave, maybe take a break at the Great Lake. She had social anxiety, and sometimes three strangers made her nervous, especially a boy. She began to think of what would happen from now on if she left and if the others would talk to her, she hoped at least Kayden would, she didn't know what she was feeling towards him.

There were so many friends to be made today, she was extremely excited. She returned the handshake to Ariana. "I'm Willow! It's lovely to meet you." She fished in her pocket for a few friendship bracelets she had made the day before in the common room. She had become quite obsessed with making them. These were chevrons of various colors. She held them out in her hands, there were ten of them. "Ok, this might seem silly but you guys seem cool. Do you any of you want a friendship bracelet?" She held up her right wrist, "I made myself one that's the Hufflepuff colors!"

She looked back to Ariana, "Were you practicing dancing? It's a nice time of night to do it. I honestly didn't expect this many people to be here. Usually it's empty." She giggled, "I guess none of us could sleep." As she got comfortable at Hogwarts she had fully embraced jumping into friendships head first. If that didn't work out, there were always plenty more friends to make. She hoped this time the bracelets wouldn't mysteriously disappear off the wrists of her newly made friends wrists. She pulled her legs up onto the bench, sitting criss-cross. She had to remember to leave room for others to talk. She had a nasty habit of talking to much

Kayden gladly accepted the bracelet. But even as he heard Ariana speak, he began growing worried. Valentine's dance? Nobody had told him anything about a dance! He drummed his fingers on the table, listening to her desk, but chanced a glimpse back at Sage as well. One day
. He thoughtOne day I'll be able to ask her. Tugging at his bracelet, and moving it into a more comfortable position, he smiled. "So. What's this about a Valentines dance?" "I'm afraid I didn't hear of it." Slowly, and very surely he was gaining more confidence. Perhaps he had finally found some friends They all seemed nice, and he already knew Ariana from a short conversation in the common room. Willow seemed trustworthy, good friend matireal. And Sage. Well... he didn't know what exactly he thought about Sage yet.

He doubted he would ever be able to talk to her without stammering and fidgeting. And whenever he was around her, he slowly began to feel light headed. He was certainly more cautious about what he said. Perhaps a bit too cautious. But it was of no matter yet. He wanted to get to know all of them, as he would be spending a lot of time here. Looking over at Sage, he read her facial expression. She was nervous. Or anxious. He couldn't really tell. But he could relate, he didn't do well with a lot of people either. He knew that Willow could read his expressions, almost in a freaky way. He looked over at her, and shot her a "Please don't follow" kind of look. Standing up, he thanked willow for the bracelet, and spoke in a slightly diminished tone. "It's been wonderful meeting you guys, but I usually spend my mornings out at the lake. Anybody care to come?" He looked over to Sage, mentally begging her to come. He sure hoped Ariana caught his drift, and didn't ask to come.

"I'd love a bracelet, thank you, Willow, it's very kind of you" Sage said and took one and put it on and then hugged her, gently but a bit tight, making it meaningful. Sage felt her face grow even redder as she heard about this Valentine's Day Dance that she didn't know existed. She thought about the day but never knew there was a dance that would happen that day. Nervously, she'd glance over at Kayden. Maybe she could ask him? No way! She feared rejection too much, and she didn't know how she felt about him. He seemed kind but he also just seemed a bit too nervous and it made her more nervous. Maybe if she got to know him a bit more then maybe her anxiety wouldn't be as bad.

Sage decided to try and listen to everyone as they spoke and would just stay silent unless they spoke to her. She couldn't stop glancing over at Kayden, what was so important about him anyways? Sage fidgeted around with the bracelet on her wrist and smiled as the beads felt good as they moved around on her wrist, giving a funny and comforting sensation. She had a new toy to play with that wasn't too distracting.

She looked at Kayden when he stood up. A walk by the lake sounded nice right now honestly, plus she wanted to get to know him more anyways, she stood up "I'll join you!" She smiled at him and followed him. "See you guys later, bye Willow!"

Ariana happily took the bracelet from Willow grinning as she caught the hint Kayden was trying to pass to Sage about going to the lake. aww they are so cute, she thought, glimpsing their red blushing cheeks and awkward faces, she leant back in her chair and turned to willow, a huge grin on her face, they silently giggled as they watched the other two nervously look at each other. They would get over their awkwardness soon enough, she thought. Ariana smiled softly fiddling with the bracelet in her wrist. Sage was really nice, maybe she'd talk to her later about it, Ariana was good with confidence and would be glad to help the girl with anything to do with boys, as she had a lot of experience with them. Kayden seemed pretty nice too, he was in Ariana's house and Ariana would easily be able to reach out to him with anything to do with tha, maybe help him to get more courage to ask Sage to the Valentines dance? She knew he had it in him, he wasn't a gryffindor for nothing. She sighed to herself, feeling light and happy inside, love definitely was in the air today!
