“A Vault Full of Surprises” OPEN
Gringotts was a massive, snow-white, multi-story marble building in the middle of Diagon Alley, near the intersection with Knockturn Alley, towering over the neighboring shops. I entered Gringotts for the first time. The marble floor was cold and smooth, every sound seemed louder than usual. Goblins sat behind desks. None of them looked friendly.

I approached one of the desks, trying my best to sound calm: "Excuse me. I'm here to open the safe."
The goblin slowly raised his head to look at me. His eyes were sharp and black, staring at me as if he could see through my clothes, my thoughts, even my spine. I swallowed, but didn't look away. He nodded once, briefly and effectively.

"Follow me," he said.
His voice was low and hoarse, but steady. I followed him down a long corridor and into the tunnel. The air grew colder as I walked. A small cart was waiting on the metal tracks. The elf stepped inside and motioned for me to follow. I climbed in, holding onto the railing as the cart jerked forward and sped off into the darkness. Then I stood in front of the safe and began to check and take out the money I needed to prepare for school.
