While the rest of Hogwarts seemed to have found solace in the crisp autumn air through hot chocolate and days by the fire, Lucille was holed up in the library, surrounded by books that, at first glance, seemed to have no relation to one another. And, perhaps they didn't. Books on philosophy and old poems littered around her, with random charms books bordering them. Not to mention the countless books on dreams and divination that were haphazardly strewn near her, and the odd books about cats and kneazles. Most of the books lay unopened and, if they were opened, Lucille certainly wasn't looking at them. Instead, she was looking at a scrap of parchment with messy handwriting, as if scribbled in a rush.

I write myself as I am read. Each word I speak erases the last. Tell me, reader: what have you learned, when the page forgets you too?

It had come to her in a dream, or, more specifically, through Daisy May in a dream. Imagine her surprise when she had been an owl delivering a letter, trying to dodge and escape a predator dead set on catching her, to suddenly being catapulted to her dorm and becoming herself once again. And in the dorm was Daisy May, watching her with her piercing blue eyes, which Lucille had always found endearing but were, at that moment, terrifying. The cat had seemed to see right through her, and then she had opened her mouth and said those words.

Lucille had woken up in a cold sweat, hurriedly ripping off a scrap of unused parchment from her Transfiguration notes (good thing she didn't have to submit those) and jotted the riddle down, more through feel than through vision. In the dark dormitory, it had taken her no time to fall asleep once again, holding the real Daisy May close.

When she had awoken, she had forgotten all about it, only discovering the stray piece of parchment when she'd been making her bed. It had fallen out of her covers, and Daisy May had lunged for it, thinking it a very interesting toy. Lucille had picked it up delicately, read it, and all the memories of the night had come rushing back.

Now, on a cold Saturday morning, when most students were with their friends or catching up on sleep, Lucille was in the mostly empty library, trying to understand what on earth dream Daisy May could be talking about. What was that saying again? A dream is a wish your heart makes? Well, she certainly hoped her heart wasn't wishing for this. That would be quite an odd thought indeed.

Since Leo spent a majority of this week settling Persephone into life at Hogwarts, he didn’t get to actually sit down and focus on his studies without the little black fluffball pestering him and walking all over his desk. Not that he was complaining. He truly loved his new little companion, she just was a baby and was so full of energy and wanted to play a lot. The problem not lying in him not wanting to play with her but because he wanted to play with her a lot more than study. So this cold late autumn morning he decided to leave Perse back in the dorm room, but not before giving her some treats. After grabbing one of his textbooks and his notebook, he turned to Perse who was sitting on his bed gobbling up the treats he put down. Leo leaned down and kissed the top of her head before patting her head, “Bye Sephie, I’ll be back after I get some work done.” He said his goodbye to the kitten and headed out to start walking down to the library.

The halls were pretty quiet still, most students probably either sleeping in or busy with activities and friends. As he entered the familiar space he looked around and was pleased to find it fairly empty this morning. It was a weekend morning so he was expecting it to be empty like this anyways. He looked for a nice spot to sit and study when he noticed a familiar face. Leo walked closer and saw he was right, it was Lucille. He went over to her table and pulled the chair out that was across from her to take a seat. “Hey Lu, don’t usually see you here at this time.” He greeted the girl who he had started to become better friends with over the last month with a smile. When he sat down he noticed she seemed to be lost in her thoughts as she stared at a piece of paper in front of her. Leo placed his things down on the table and leaned across the table slightly to look at the paper she seemed so fixated on. “What’s that?” He asked, tilting his head slightly to get a better look at it. “A riddle?” He sat back in his seat again and thought to himself. ‘Why does she have a torn piece of paper with a riddle on it? It can’t be for class so what is she trying to solve?’ His curiosity was starting to get the best of him as he wondered what it was for and what the actual riddle was and how to solve it. Truly a Ravenclaw in the way that he loved to try to solve puzzles like that for fun. “Do you need help with it?”

Lucille was so engrossed in her piece of paper, as if it was the most enchanting thing she had ever read, that when a voice called out to her, she looked up with a start. It was as if the girl had just woken up, her eyes having drooped after staring at the same spot for so long. As she blinked rapidly, the voice continued. She recognized it to be Leo, and her initial surprise wore off. Instead, she greeted him with a bright smile. "That's because normal people prefer to sleep in on a Saturday," she joked, as Leo eyed the paper in her hand.

When he asked about it, Lucille wasted no time in tossing it towards him. Who knows? Perhaps a clever Ravenclaw would prove to be the key she needed to unlock the mystery of this riddle nestled in her dreams. "I have no idea," she replied, letting out a sigh of frustration. "I dreamt it last night. I think. Or perhaps I thought of it when I woke up. No, no, I definitely dreamt it," she said, shaking her head as if clearing her thoughts.

Pulling a book towards her, Lucille flipped through to the contents and scanned it. "I'm just trying to figure it out. It has to mean something, right? It doesn't sound too much like a load of nonsense," she murmured, as if talking to herself. Lucille had not asked if Leo would like to join her on her quest, but it seemed she had already decided he would in her mind, even if he hadn't mentioned anything of the sort.

With another sigh, she rested her chin on her hand, reading the same lines over and over again as they stubbornly refused to lodge themselves in the corners of her brain. It felt as if her dream was slowly leaving her mind the more time she stayed awake and, soon, whatever logic she currently found in the riddle would disappear, too. Lucille knew she had to get to the bottom of it before it happened, or the scrap of paper would stare at her, taunting, for the rest of the month, or at least until she could figure it out.

She glanced over at Leo, hoping the fresh eyes of her companion might have better success. "Any luck?" she asked hopefully, eyebrows slightly raised.
