It was a feeble attempt but worthwhile. Jade always had to get revenge, no matter how tiny the mistake was. Even if someone had messed up her name—which was ever so common—or simply sat in her seat in class, she had to at least retaliate with a sharp remark.

For some reason these days Jade found vandalism as a great way to get her point across. It was something she'd learn in muggle school, where the children couldn't use magic so they had to resort to other creative ways to get back at people. While it had never been the worst school to be at, her academy had called for people to always fend for themselves because the faculty didn't care of a trickle for anyone else's problems.

The reason why she was currently dressed as 'manly' as she could be—which meant really a pair of thick bifocals to mask her feminine face, a beanie to hide her long hair, and wearing long pants her robes to hide anything else, plus or minus a free fake hairs she had drawn on her chin—was because a Gryffindor boy had decided to cheat off her homework and she, and only she, had gotten in trouble for it. During Transfiguration Jade had noticed how anxious the boy was and instead of stopping him she felt bad and pretended to not notice him cheat off of her. But two things had gone very wrong with that.

First, Jade hadn't known that he was anxious all the time, literally. He was coined as the biggest worry-wart in the school by everyone except Jade because she could care less for dumb labels. But that little fact would've been extremely helpful for her earlier. And the second thing was, he had copied exactly after her, not one difference in wording or punctuation. And instead of telling on himself, he said that Jade had copied him and was so persuasive that she got into trouble without a doubt. It also didn't help that Jade was known for her trickery anyways.

But after getting punished Jade immediately sought revenge. Her idea had been to go into the boy's bathroom and marks on all of the walls in a stall, in red, his name with slanders attached. It was nothing new, Jade had some this many times before—almost too many times—but she was doing this for the message, not for a creative challenge. A very nasty one, too. Let's just say that Jade had made it seem like the boy had made a very nasty mess in the toilet and someone had made it well known that it as his fault, and only his.

She had decided to do this when this part of the halls was least crowded, so less attention would be drawn to her. That was for when she was getting into the bathroom. But Jade had hoped for it to be crowded afterwards so she could blend into the crowds, and so she could hear the reactions to her little feat.

She was smirking as she walked out the bathroom, immediately make her way into the crowd, when her eyes latched on a student. Her face went blank, to mask anything unusual, but her eyes stayed on theirs, and she couldn't pull them away. Still, a sense of alarm slowly began to rise in her. Did they know?

Even when Flash wasn't making the rounds around the castle, he was still always watching. In-between classes and on the way to the bathrooms, he was always trying to see if there was anything that stood out. One of the pieces of wisdom that his older brother imparted to him had always stuck: when things go wrong, no one notices until it's too late. His brother was always the distrustful type, one that wanted to make a career out of fighting dark wizards even, but it was information that had guided Flash well even in his young age. When things are out of place, they aren't always obvious, screaming in your face.

A good example was the person in front of him, making direct eye contact in the halls. It could have been because he was looking directly at them that the connection was made. Their pants were baggy, the belt was tightened by the waist rather than the hip, they wore big glasses and a hat to conceal their face. Perhaps to someone minding their business, thinking about their homework, they would have looked like any other student, but it didn't take much deliberation to see through the facade. Once he noticed, it was impossible to see them as anything other than what they were-- a young girl trying to disguise herself as a boy. And it was a disguise. It was cobbled together from unmatched pieces rather than seeming like a genuine attempt to 'pass'. People didn't usually put on disguises for kicks and giggles, surely she was up to something.

How interesting.

If it hadn't been for the clear acknowledgement, Flash may have gotten away with tailing her and gathering more information, but it was too late for that. If he wanted to learn more he had to act now before she had time to come up with a story. He glided over casually, acting as if nothing was amiss. There weren't many other students around, but enough that their conversation could be overheard if someone wanted to listen.

"Trying to hide something?" Flash smiled disarmingly, hoping she wouldn't decide to book it.

Even though she'd eventually managed to look away it was far too late for that. This boy had to decided to focus his attention on her and she could tell that running away was going to be futile. Actually, that would only make things worse, and she definitely didn't want that.

Jade raised her head high and walked a little faster, just to give the hint that she didn't want to be bother as she stared straight ahead, but the boy obviously had seen through her stupid get-up. I knew I should've tried harder, she told herself, like that was going to change anything.

She brushed a stray hair into her beanie and didn't look at him when he came up to her. She felt like he was being a bit nosey—actually, too nosey, really—but complaining would only prove his suspicions. He simply, nonchalantly, asked her if she were hiding something—which thought, again, was nine of his business—and she had to keep herself from swallowing in a tell-tale way. Was she that easy to read, or did her already know her for her antics? A quick glance and she could see no recognition in his eyes, even though she definitely would've remembered those big, blue eyes.

Instead of showing fear, because she definitely didn't want to get in trouble again, Jade allowed for her lips to curl into a nasty frown and she snapped at him. “Why don't you go and mind your own business? You wouldn't be able to comprehend a man like me.”

She had to remember to make her voice deeper but she had to admit that it was a failed attempt; Jade's voice was actually pretty high and 'glamorous' so feigning a male's to made her sound like a dying bear letting his last attempt at human speech.

Jade pushed her glasses up with a finger like how she saw the nerds do in the films. She hadn't exactly been going for a Ravenclaw look but she supposed that's what she looked like, a weird, introverted weeb...not that all Ravenclaws were weebs. Jade stifled a laugh behind a cough.

Comprehend… a man like her… Flash was reeling from the unprecedented audacity. Even though he had to admit his experiences in life were few, he didn’t expect to have his accusation thrown back into his face like an unwanted fish back into the water. He didn’t quite know how to take the next step forward. If he insisted, she may continue to deny him into oblivion.

He could have laughed if he wasn’t so insulted. She was wearing a bright yellow tie, stood at about five foot tall, nearly the same height as Flash himself. Annoyingly, the disguise did its job in hiding her face. Flash was hardly the kind of student to tell a teacher something he saw when what he really wanted was ammunition for himself. He needed her name, or anything he could use to find her again. The school was massive, and it wouldn’t be too difficult for her to slip under the radar if he just let her go.

”Why don’t you mind your own business~” Flash put on an exaggeratedly stupid, feminine voice, ”You can’t comprehend my idiocy~”

Sometimes when nothing else worked, one could always rely on blatant mockery to keep them talking. Especially with someone so thick-headed.

Jade balled up her fists, a hint of a snarl on her lips, as she tried to focus on walking. Silence was great when you wanted someone to leave you alone; that's how she'd met her best friend.

She remembered Aria, the delicate, little muggle girl with sleek black hair like raven feathers and porcelain skin that was almost deathly pale. Jade remembered how no matter times she'd tried to pester the girl she wouldn't even acknowledge her. There was day that she would've stopped forever except that same day she made Aria smile. It was just a millisecond of a smile but Jade had indeed saw it, and she claimed Aria as her best friend. Aria never let anyone get to her; she chose to stay quiet and oblivious to the nonsense going around her, never speaking to anyone. But the day Jade made her smile, she finally opened up.

Thinking of her made Jade sad. A pained expression crossed over her face; she wanted to run away, all the way back to the Hufflepuff common room, all the way into her dorm, all the way over to her bed, just so she could suck out all of these horrible thoughts. Today she had only meant to make one person's day worse but she had also made her own's.

And this stupid boy wasn't helping. He, whoever he was, was positively annoying. He was acting like he was some prefect, but she could clearly see why they hadn't chose him to be one. He mocked her voice, making it well known that he knew that she wasn't actually a boy, and continued on to copy her speech, in a way. Jade was beginning to really not like him.

She stopped abruptly and turned to face him all the way. Perhaps it wasn't the best idea, given that he now has a good look at her face and would easily recognize later on—though she really hoped that she was wrong—but she was mad now. What is his deal...?

“Why don't you leave me alone, huh?!” she snapped, fury teeming all over her face. “Do you like harassing people, is that it?” She said that part a bit louder, just to attract attention. While that was bad for her Jade already planned on sprinting at the chance.

The girl reeled around, reprimanding Flash. Perfect. She was closer now, and he could see her clearer. She had freckles, her eyes were brown, and her tucked away hair was a rich, bright blonde. He may have had to resort to underhanded tactics, but in the end he got what he wanted. Under normal circumstances, Flash wanted to leave a good impression on everyone he met, but he made an exception for trouble makers. He didn’t want to associate with them, unless they understood that he was above being trifled with. Catching someone in the act of disregarding the rules was useful not just for blackmail, but also for weeding out the chaff.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t ‘caught’ her doing anything. He could just tell she was up to no good, which meant she was someone he had to keep an eye on. She seemed genuinely angry, but Flash couldn’t help but smile in response. Go cry about it then.

“Merlin’s beard! Who the hell--!” A scream came from the boy’s lavatory nearby.

A great commotion followed, the scant few students nearby being drawn in by curiosity. Flash, too, was very curious. Invariably, it was the Hufflepuff’s doing, and he wanted to know what he was dealing with. In the brief moment he was distracted, however, she vanished.

He would definitely have to keep an eye on her.
