Zion stood at the beach of the lake, in basketball shorts and with his shirt off.

"I must be bored out of my fucking mind," Zion muttered reluctantly.

He was always bad at swimming. Never really got into it. Who wants to spend their time swimming when there is basketball and football? In fact, Zion could not think of one person in Detroit that had a hobby of swimming.

Still... perhaps learning the skill was not a bad idea. Rumors went about a giant squid that lived in the Great Lake.

"If I ever do fall into this shit..." Zion said kicking the water with his bare foot. "I'm just squid food if I don't know how to fucking swim."

"Here goes nothing..." Zion said as he plunged himself into the water. Half a second later he emerged from the water as if all of his survival instincts were on high alert.

"GOOD LORD FUCK!" Zion exclaimed, his body shivering from the cold. "Ain't no way you got mermaids and shit living here in this fucking freezer."

His arms folded onto his chest as he braced for warmth. The Hufflpuff boy then quickly shook his head as he got ready to dive in once more.

"Pops said, 'Don't be a bitch,'" Zion muttered under his breath. "What if I fall in during the winter? That shit gon be colder. I gotta suck it up."

Zion took a deep breath as he dove into the water once more with a splash.

Rather than swimming... he was simply thrashing about as he sunk in place. He stood back up above the water.

"Hm... I swam two feet. Not bad."

The Great Lake
Ryder had plans today, it was just 2 weeks since they came to Hogwarts and everyone was whining about missing their family. Well Ryder didnt miss anyone at all. He needed to get away from all that familial love.

He always ran from his problems. At his parents' place, whenever they would have an argument, Ryder would leave the house, and run, just run wherever his feet would take him and today was no different, he ran, away from people.

He knew he had to meet up with his cousin, but that could wait, he needed a change of environment. He ran towards the great lake and started jogging slowly breathing in the fresh air. His peace was suddenly disturbed by loud thrashing. He turned to the sound of the disturbance and saw a boy swim-no, fighting the water? As Ryder walked over to him, he suddenly stood up and appreciated himself for swimming two feet.

Ryder bit back a laugh, forcing his face into its usual calm. “Well done on that achievement,” he said dryly. “I don’t think any beginner could manage two whole feet.”

He crouched, dipping his hands into the water and immediately frowning at the cold. “You trying to get hypothermia? Or maybe wake the giant squid?”

Straightening, he looked out across the lake again, tone still flat but laced with quiet amusement. “I can help you with either of those… or,” a small pause, “I can actually teach you how to swim.”

For the first time that day, he didnt mind ...people.

Say whatever you want about me. Just don’t touch what’s mine.
