Avery smiled and laughed at the look on Leo's face as he searched for the snitch. She had noticed the snitch not too far away from where he had been right after he moved, so that just added to her amusement. Leo was so much like her when she had first started Quidditch. Maybe he would be good at finding the snitch, or maybe another position would be better? Avery would just have to wait and see.

As much as Avery was itching to go after the snitch, now wasn't the time. Now was the time to sit back and observe. She had to see how Leo interpreted the chasing of the snitch. That was what was most important in finding a position.

"You go ahead and go after the snitch once you find it. I'll watch this time." Avery said as perched on her broom. This was going to be fun. Even if she didn't get to chase the snitch this time.

She didn't know what to expect from him. She admired the way he held himself on his broom, the careful poise as he searched vigorously for the snitch, but all that could go out the window in a matter of seconds in a real match with fouls and the constant fear of being knocked out or knocked from your broom. That's why she wanted to make sure he could handle the broom before adding other things.

When Leo caught up to Avery, he let out a low chuckle at himself as he realized how difficult this position really was now that he was out here trying it for himself. The Gryffindor girl sat on her broom and smiled before speaking, giving him the go ahead to go after the snitch. He gave her a nod before smirking as he set his eyes on the snitch again as it flew off in the distance.

He leaned forward on his broom, quickly zooming after the tiny flying golden ball. Weaving past the hoops, Leo kept his eyes locked on the snitch as he chased after it. As he gained on the snitch he held the broom tightly with his one hand before carefully reaching out with the other. Trying his best to get as close as he could he reached out and grabbed the snitch. Surprised by himself, he looked down at his closed hand as he flew to a stop. His head snapped up and looked across to find where Avery was, waving his hand up in the air for her to see before flying closer to meet her again.

“I don’t know how but I did it, that was a lot harder than it looks when watching a match.” He laughed as he handed the snitch back to the girl. “I don’t think I would make a very good seeker in a real game though,” he admitted shyly, rubbing the back of his neck and giving a soft smile. “What’s next on your training agenda?” Leo asked, still eager to do some more flying around with her so he could learn as much as he could.

Avery was impressed by Leo's speed and accuracy as he chased the snitch. Though she could see it in his face that he was far from wanting to be a Seeker. As she watched him, and idea came to her mind. Since he had the agility, but wasn't the speediest which could be changed with a good broom, she knew exactly what to test him on next.

"Nice work. It really isn't easy." Avery laughed lightly. Knowing all too well how hard it was to chase the snitch and catch it. "Now. As far as what's next. Well, you usually need three people to do this, but we can make do with just the two of us. I'll just go get the ball."

Avery flew down to the ground and jumped gracefully off her broom. Landing hard on the ground, but she didn't let that phase her. She was determined to get the Quaffle and fly back up to Leo quickly.

She unstrapped the reddish brown ball and held it in her hands for a moment. Shocked at how different it felt compared to a snitch. She had never really experienced the other balls before, so just holding the Quaffle made her ready.

She mounted her broom and flew back up to Leo. Tossing the Quaffle in his direction and hoping he had a quick enough instinct to catch it before it fell to the ground. "Let's see what you've got. This time we'll start out easy with a simple pass and score. Basically, you'll pass the ball to me midflight and I'll pass it back so you can score. Fire away!" Avery said with a smile as she prepared herself for the speedy flight.

They hadn’t been at it for very long but already Leo was feeling tired just from trying to search for the snitch. Nonetheless he was excited still to try out whatever else Avery had planned for him. He wondered if this was how the practices would be like if he were to make the house team. If this was just a taste of how it would be he was going to have to work even harder to make sure he was ready and could handle everything they would throw at him during practices.

He was pleased to hear that he still had done well, especially after how rough it was to try to find the snitch on his own for the first time. This special training she was putting him through was at least going to help him figure out what position he might want to shoot for in the future and help him work on his skills in general. Maybe they would get to practice again sometime. What he did know was after all the help she was giving him right now, he was going to have to find a way to pay her back later somehow.

As she started to explain what they would be working on next he immediately knew what position she would be testing him on next. He watched as she flew back down and went to grab something else, something he assumed was going to be the quaffle. When she flew back up he squinted his eyes a little at her to see what she had only to be met with her tossing the ball over to him. Luckily he was able to move fast enough, lifting both hands off the broom to catch the quaffle as she threw it, the catch causing him to move back some with the weight of it hitting him.

This next lesson she had planned was definitely something he was interested in so he paid close attention to what she said before turning his head to look towards the goal hoops. “Alright, I think I can manage that.” He said, hoping he could back it up in a few moments with his attempt to score. As he steadied himself on the broom, holding the quaffle close to him in his one arm, he turned back to look at the Gryffindor girl. “Ready?” Leo gave a small smirk as he hoped he would be able to show that he can manage this seemingly easy task. As they were ready to go, Leo leaned forward and zoomed through the air towards the distant goal. He checked to his side to see where Avery was, holding the quaffle up in his hand and tossing it in her direction.

Avery was excited for this. This time she would finally be playing. She dearly loved anything and everything Quidditch, so she couldn't wait to see how this version of practice would go. Just because she loved being a Seeker as it was her favorite position to play didn't mean she disliked the other positions. Each position took a unique player. Someone who could handle the pressure of the chase, someone who could handle multiple goals at once, and even someone that had a keen enough eye to know the perfect way to hit a bludger at an opponent so there would be no escape.

Just by the look on Leo's face, Avery knew that this was it. He easily threw the Quaffle in her direction. One of the hardest things he had done effortlessly. Aiming in the right direction was one thing, but keeping your broom straight and throwing it to your teammate was another. He was a natural. Avery was impressed as she caught the Quaffle. The leathery ball held firmly in her hands as she sped off. Preparing for the next part of the move. The pass and score. She didn't know how Leo would handle it, but she had the feeling that he would do it. Something inside her told her he was born to be a chaser.

Avery finally found the perfect moment to throw, and she did. She threw the Quaffle hard. Hard enough that Leo could catch it easily if he was ready, but not too hard as to overthrow. If Quidditch had taught her anything over the past year it would be that everything had to be carefully calculated and planned in a matter of moments. Especially with another team against you and the house cup on the line. If you took too long to decide on something, you could risk losing the game for your team, or even knocking yourself out of the game.

This would determine everything, if he caught it, and made it into the goal, Avery didn't see the need for him to try anything else out. He had found his position in her opinion, but she was happy to continue if he wished. She was enjoying herself. Having probably a little too much fun testing the skills of a first year that had probably if ever played Quidditch before.

If he did decide to continue, Avery had an idea for what she would test him on next. It was something she greatly enjoyed doing for fun, but she could never do herself in a real match. It was too brutal. Too much for Avery to handle. Especially if she ended up hurting someone. She would feel guilty about it for the rest of her life if she'd done that.

Leo watched the quaffle leave his hands and fly through the air towards the girl. Glancing ahead of him, he slowed slightly to turn back to Avery and watch for her next move. ‘Okay, successful throw, now just catch it and score.’ He thought to himself as the two flew towards the goal posts. He had to admit this was definitely an exciting practice for the newbie flyer and quidditch player. So far he had done better than he expected himself, he hoped he was able to impress the second year as well. Although this was still nothing compared to a real game where he could really test out these skills he was learning from her.

He was careful to keep focused on Avery and the quaffle so he wouldn’t miss the toss back to him. When she went to throw it, Leo gripped the broom one last time to steady himself before letting go and catching it with both hands. The quaffle landed hard in his hands from her throw and he was quick to tuck it in his one arm and take hold of his broom again with the other free hand. He looked ahead at the three posts, squinting his eyes as the air hit his face. Coming up on the center post he lifted the ball up and as hard as he could threw it through the hoop to try to score. Right now he just had to worry about aiming but in the real game there would be players trying to stop him at every turn if he was really playing as a chaser.

With the ball going through the hoop, Leo didn’t stop to celebrate and quickly zoomed down to retrieve it again. A small smile graced his face as he flew up to meet Avery again with the quaffle in hand. He felt he did okay for that test but he had another position in mind that he wanted to try still so he hoped she would game for helping him with that still. He tossed the ball back over to her and stopped his broom in the air close to her so they could talk. “That was a lot of fun! I definitely would love to actually try that in a real game.” He said excitedly to the older girl. “If you aren’t in a rush to go, would it be okay to learn the other position I was interested in? I know it’s a little more rough but I would like to learn some beater techniques too.” He asked her as they sat on their brooms.

A smile played across Avery’s face as she watched Leo. He was doing an amazing job considering it was his first time trying out a Quaffle score. He was a natural on his broom as he successfully maneuvered towards the posts and scored. Though she knew real games were harder with bludgers and other players around you and even flying at you, she also knew that it took skill to aim correctly. And Leo possessed that skill.

“Not bad. I’m impressed honestly. If I didn’t know better, I would guess that you’ve done that a hundred times before.” Avery smiled.

A beater. He wanted to test his beater skills? This was going to be an entertaining showdown. One that if something went wrong would hurt worse than many other injuries. Possibly even worse than falling off a broom.

“I’m in no hurry, so let’s do this. Fair warning. If you get hit, trust me, it hurts way worse than you can imagine.” Avery laughed nervously. Remembering the time she had been hit by a bludger in the past. It was not a pleasant experience.

Avery grabbed two beater bats and the cursed bludger from the ground before she flew back to Leo. Tossing a bat in his direction and hoping he’d catch it she looked in his direction and said, “Here we go. Good luck.” Then she released the bludger out of her grasp and chaos had begun.
