A Brand-New World
Megan had never been on a train alone before, so to say she was nervous going to King’s Cross station was an understatement. It was a warm day, considering it was September 1st, Megan and her parents were in the car on the way to King’s Cross station for the new term at this place called Hogwarts. As Megan was born to the Muggle world, she had never heard of this place before. She was only 11 and going to this private school to help her control this thing called magic that she had discovered she had just two years ago. When she got the letter, maybe a week or two ago, she couldn’t say she was surprised, especially after the...incident. However, she didn’t realize how scared and nervous she would be when they went to the train station. She just hoped that the people she’d meet would be nice.
Half an hour later, they pulled up to the train station and her nervousness increased tenfold. “Alright sweetheart, we’re here. Let’s get your stuff out of the trunk” her mother said in a fake cheerful voice, also scared for her daughter’s sake. “Yeah, right.” Megan said quietly and cleared her throat. Her father was less cheerful, “I just hope you learn to control this, thing. I already don’t know what I think of my daughter being some magical being. All I can say is that I’m not exactly comfortable with it.” This made Megan feel more self-conscious. “Anthony!” her mother snapped, “Regardless if she has magic or not, she is still your daughter, you can’t treat her that way!” “Really? Because you don’t have this problem and I certainly don’t. How do I know she’s mine?” Anthony, her father, snapped back at her mother. “I’m not sure what you’re implying, but I have never slept with any man other than you! It’s strange and new, yes, but her having magic doesn’t make her any different than the Megan we raised, she’s still the same sweet girl, she also just so happens to have magic.” Her mother shot back. Wanting to avoid this argument, Megan quickly put all of her stuff on a trolley and said, “Hey, look, uh, that letter said the train leaves at 11am, so we should probably get going, right?” Both of her parents snapped out of it and her mom said, “Yes, yes you’re quite right. Come on, let’s go, we only have,” she glances at her phone, “15 minutes until the train leaves.” Relieved at avoiding the topic, the three rushed to try and find this ‘Platform 9 ¾ ‘
Ten minutes passed quickly and still no luck, Megan really didn’t want to ask someone in fear of being ridiculed, but she didn’t have much of a choice. With her parents following behind, she went up to a woman by platforms 9 and 10 and timidly asked, “Um, excuse me ma’am, I hope I don’t sound silly or stupid, but, um, where is Platform 9 ¾? I’m supposed to go there to get on a train that goes to this place called, Hogwarts, I do believe.” The woman turned and smiled warmly at Megan, “Ah, you must be new too, I just saw my daughter off, she’s about your age. So, you see the wall in between Platforms 9 and 10?” Megan nodded, “You run towards that wall, now don’t be too scared or you’ll just hurt yourself, and then you’re on the platform.” “What?! Are you crazy? That’s a solid wall! I’ll run into it anyway. There’s no way-” Megan exclaimed. The woman shushed her, “No, you won’t, trust me. Your parents surely wouldn’t know, I can spot Muggles from a Kilometer away. Now, do you trust me?” Megan had no choice, she looked at her watch and the train would leave in 5 minutes. She sighed, “Fine,” she said to the woman. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and ran towards the wall. She fully expected the impact of metal hitting concrete and getting thrown back, but that never happened. She opened her eyes and saw a massive scarlet train with smoke coming out of the chimney. “Whoa” was her only response.
Soon after, the woman who helped her and her mother came through behind her. Megan looked and asked her mom, “Hey, where’s dad?” her mother sighed in annoyance and resentment, “He refused to come.” She said. “Oh, I see…” Megan responded sadly, “Why?” “He claimed it was impossible and refused to come, he said he’d wait in the car until I sent you off. Then he stormed out of the station.” Her mother responded angrily. “Anyway, hurry on into the train sweetie, you don’t want to miss it.” “Oh yeah!” Megan said quickly and gave her mother a quick hug and thanked the woman who helped her find the Platform. She got on the train and quickly found a compartment towards the middle to where she could see her mother. Once the train started moving, she waved goodbye to her mother through the window and Megan’s journey into the Wizarding World began.
((Roleplayer here! Sorry it’s rough, I was going to just make this a solo post, but if you’re interested in continuing this with me, whether it’s on the thread or through the PMs on here, I wouldn’t mind at all. I’d also like some pointers, since I haven’t done roleplays in a long time and when I did, it was usually in script format, not like this. So if you want to give me some pointers, and hopefully be nice about it, I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Jade was making her way back from the area that held the luggage. She was carrying her black robes that she'd need for the Sorting Ceremony just so she could be prepared. She was thinking about the person who she shared a compartment with, a boy named Kevin. She thought he was decent but she was looking forward to the many other friends she'd make while attending the school. A rush of excitement went through her as she imagined the adventures she'd have; she was bound to have some, she'd make sure of it.
As she walked through the small corridor, brushing pass other students who were socializing or just heading somewhere on the train, she happened to glance into one of the passing compartments. In it sat a lone girl who was looking out the window. Jade didn't feel exactly bad for her, just curious, like she always was. You had to be curious if you wanted to be a professional sneak, which Jade was. She wasn't proud of stealing, lying, and snooping, but she got her benefits and that was enough. But it was easier to do those things with muggles than with wizards, who had their own tricks up their sleeves, literally, if you considered their wands.
Jade decided to say hello to the girl. The train was full of anxious people anyways so maybe just speaking to one of them could lighten up the mood, even by a little bit. Beside, maybe this girl would be her potential future best friend, or at least help her with homework or any problems she had. Jade didn't want cronies, but that wasn't a bad idea, either.
She poked her head in and smile, clutching her neatly folded her robes under her arm. “Hello, I'm Jade. Are you new here like me? I'd think so, you do look a bit young.” Jade was wearing a neat blue sweater and a pair of oversized khakis, along with crisp, white sneakers. She'd look like a boy if it weren't for pretty face and beautiful, honey blond hair.
Her nose crinkled as she smiled, her eyes full of excitement. “Looking forward to the school year?

Megan looked towards the new voice and saw a girl about her age sticking her head into the compartment, “Oh hello, Jade was it? Nice to meet you. I’m Megan. Or Meg, as my friends at my old school called me. I don’t know about excited, but definitely curious to see what this Hogwarts is about. I hadn’t heard of it until two weeks ago. Anyway, want to come sit with me?” She gestured to the seat across from her. She wasn’t sure if she fully trusted this girl, but she had to make new friends anyway. She probably wouldn’t see her old friends anymore, at least for awhile. Megan thought back to before all of this, she’d had plenty of friends, she was considered normal by her father, her parents didn’t argue so much. She missed that, but now all of that was gone. She had to lie to her friends and say she was going to transfer to a private school, her father seemed to hate her guts, and ever since her grandmother’s passing and what happened at the funeral home, her parents argued nonstop. She only hoped things would be better at this new place. Before she stayed silent too long, she looked back up at the other girl. “So, um, where are you from? You have an interesting accent.”

Two weeks ago? thought Jade, a look of confusion passing over her face. Why that's the around the same time j received my letter—oh, she must be—! Jade looked the girl over curiously. Was she indeed a muggle-born? It wouldn't shock Jade, it wasn't exactly uncommon to see them these days, but she wondered how the girl reacted to the fact that magic actually existed... except that it was quite different from the magic in fairy tales.
“Nice to meet you, Megan,” she replied with a grin. She meant to go back to the compartment with her friend Kevin but she knew that she had a lot of time before they'd get close to Hogwarts. Besides, Megan was beginning to get really interesting, even though their entire conversation so far consisted of just a few brief words.
“Accent? What are you—oh!” Jade felt like slapping herself in the head. Of course she'd forgotten. She was used to a variety of dialects from the United Kingdom, especially since her village had people from all parts of the world. But now that she was in Scotland it shouldn't surprise her for people to raise a brow at her Welsh accent.
Jade pulled her legs upon the seat and crossed them, trying to get comfortable. “I'm from Wales—that little bit up north-ish.” That wasn't the best description but Jade wasn't in the mood for thinking about home. That would mean thinking about her grandmother, her younger sister, and even her parents, and she definitely didn't want to think about all of that. She was supposed to be enjoying her ride, making friends, and eating treats.
“Haven't heard of ole Hogwarts, yeah? How'd that work out for your family?” She was genuinely curious; she wondered how two people would react when they found out that their daughter was going to be heading off to some mysterious school of magic that no muggle should even know about. Jade could only figure that they'd be worried but the girl didn't seem that bothered. Was she even a muggle-born, or perhaps she did have wizard parents, but they just never told her about Hogwarts? Either way she'd find out soon enough.

Megan internally cringed at the last question, hopefully it wasn’t noticeable, and continued talking, “Oh, Wales, huh? Cool! I was born in the United States of America and moved to London with my parents at six, sadly it was because my grandmother was sick, but anyway,” she cleared her throat, “that’s the past. I’m here now.” The tone was clearly nervous, but Megan put on a brave face. “So, do you have any friends going to this Hogwarts place? That you knew from a young age, that is. Not like, new people now.” She asked, clearly trying to avoid the topic of what her parents thought about her having magic. "Oh and is there anything you can tell me about the place? I mean, I know you're new and all, like me, but you seem to know more about Hogwarts than me. Sorry if I'm asking too many questions. I'm just genuinely curious about this whole thing. I've always loved learning new things." She rambled on, hoping she wasn't annoying the girl too much, and her face getting a little red from embarrassment. "I just hope I don't seem weird or too awkward or anything. I'm really just trying to make some new friends. See, I originally went to what you call muggle schools in both the USA and in London when we moved here and now that I can't talk to them anymore, at least for awhile, I'm hoping I can make at least one friend on here, or at least meet some interesting people." She looked down after everything she said and she hoped she didn't offend the girl in the compartment with her.
