Matisse had to make an actual effort to keep her mouth from falling open at the enormous pile of candy Jaxon has obtained. There was so much to try, and none of it was anything she'd ever had before.

Jaxon was smiling, clearly excited about the haul of sweets, and his excitement was infectious. She grinned back at him.

"I've never seen any of these before," she said, goggling over the various names on the brightly colored packaging. "I have no clue where to even start. What's your favorite?"

She liked all kinds of candy, and didn't really have a favorite because what she liked best tended to change based on her mood that day. Sometimes she wanted sour candies, other times she wanted chocolate, other times she wanted hard candy, it all changed fairly frequently, but she did have favorite kinds within the various subtypes at least. Usually she could figure out what she wanted fairly easily.

This though, was much different. She'd never tried any of these sweets, had no clue what they would taste like, and if they were magic sweets did that mean they did other things too? Would she like the effects? There was no way to know until she tried it.

Jaxon looks at Matisse, she looked impressed, this is good, he's impressing his new friend, with things he didn't make mind you, but he is showing her the amazing world that is the magical world, the chocolate frog box made a slight jostle, as if something inside was moving, Jaxon picked up the chocolate frog box, handing it to Matisse.

"I always liked... chocolate frogs... but um... be careful when you open it, don't let it... hop out." He warns her, forgetting that that sentence will be quite.. peculiar to a muggle, but he was just so excited to give her things to try, he then picked up the box of Bertie Botts' Every Flavour Beans "These are also nice... if you're... lucky... I don't like testing my luck sometimes.. they can be ANY flavour you can imagine... even very gross ones..." He warns her yet again, before grabbing some honey flavoured toffee, he always loved toffees, they weren't anything special, and part of that was the appeal to him, he didn't expect it to do anything, make him sound weird, cause some strange affects, or anything like that, he pops it in his mouth, humming in delight.

Matisse stared at the box that contained a chocolate frog suspiciously as it shivered slightly again. Jaxon's warning not to let it hop out made it seem like the candy inside was somehow alive or something, and she wasn't sure how she felt about that.

Cautiously she opened the package, and saw the chocolate frog inside make a break for freedom. She gasped and dropped the package as it came flying towards her face and reflexively smacked it away with her hand.

Then she stayed in partial horror as it hopped around the compartment, eventually becoming feeble enough that it was more flopping than hopping. She eyed it warily.

"I uh...I don't know if I can eat that honestly," she said finally even as it twitched a few times. "That seems far too real for consumption, it'd feel like I was hurting it or something. Do they...do they feel pain? How does the enchantment work?"

She looked at the little carton of jelly beans labeled Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans. Jaxon had said there could be gross flavors in it too, but there had to be good ones too right? And at least they weren't alive.

She opened the box and poked around in the attempt to guess which beans might taste okay and which ones would be gross, and finally settled on a red and white one. She put it in her mouth and tentatively bit down on it, expecting something sweet like strawberries and cream.

Instead, it tasted more like a ribeye steak. Which wasn't bad necessarily, just not what she'd been prepared for from a candy.

Jaxon watches her inspect the chocolate frog box, wondering how she will react, then she peeked inside the he saw her reaction, he felt a bit bad that it made her startled, but he couldn't help but let out a small laugh, as quiet as the rest of him, he didn't expect her to react like that, he watches the chocolate frog hop around, he reaches for the chocolate frog, being able to catch it, he shakes his head.

"Just a... inanimate object turned animate... feels nothing, it's just chocolate." He explains to her, though he understands why it might seem, well, disturbing, it acted like a real frog after all, he then points to the box again "Inside is a card... it's like.. a collector thing... all sorts of famous wizards and witches get put on them..." He informs her, before deciding to eat the chocolate frog himself, slightly angled away from her so she doesn't have to see

Noticing her attention turned to the beans, watching her inspect it, he wonders what flavour she will get, hopefully something nice of course, he remembers the disgusting ones he had to eat before, but also, the extremely amazing ones, it's a very high risk, and honestly, a very low reward. "What flavour did you get?... I once got a mud swamp flavour... it was... not... nice." He rubs his neck slightly, he remembers that very intently, the grimace he made, before he had to spit it back out almost immediately, his siblings laughed at him, he ended up crying.

Matisse chewed the rest of the bean and swallowed, then squinted at the carton with extreme prejudice as she poked around at the beans inside.

"I think that one was like...some kind of meat flavor? It tasted like steak," she said as she selected another bean that looked innocuous. It was a pale blue color and that seemed like it should be pleasant. She put it in her mouth and then quickly spat it back out into a napkin.

"Okay so these are uh...fine I guess but I think I prefer knowing what to expect out when it comes to what things are gonna taste like. That one tasted like soap. Which I guess could have been worse but...still."

She noticed he'd consumed the frog, and was kind of glad she hadn't watched. "The um frogs...do they...do they...wiggle on the way down or uh...in your stomach?"

She tried to keep her face as neutral as possible as she asked about it but the thought of it squirming around as it was swallowed or individual body parts twitching...she did her best to suppress a shudder. She could only imagine how horrible it might feel to try swallowing something live. Well not live exactly but moving as if it was.

Jaxon watches her facial expressions, watching her become very cautious of the jelly beans now, he couldn't help but give a small chuckle at this, listening to her explain the flavour she got, a meat flavour, that doesn't sound bad, but for a sweet, doesn't sound appealing, having someone taste like meat from a jelly bean, he then watched her take another bean, before she promptly spat it out

"Yeah they can... be very hit or miss... but I have had amazing flavours before.." He tells her, he shakes his head to her question about the frogs "Oh.. no no... when you do start eating it it really just... well.. it's chocolate, and acts like chocolate." He explains to her, he looks around for any neutral non magical sweets, picking up some toffees and handing it to her for her to try "Maybe you'll like these.."

Jaxon continues to consume various sweets with her, eating some more of the beans, eating toffees, more chocolate frogs to try and get other cards, this was the most exciting day of his life already, and he hopes to have more of them, even if it's with just her, he's very content with just one friend already, more may be nerve-wracking, too many people.

The sky outside the train was getting darker. They'd been traveling for a few hours now and the time had passed faster than Matisse had expected despite the lack of video games. She'd been having fun trying out the magical sweets and talking to her new friend.

Whispers were starting to move through the train that they were getting close and that everyone should get into their uniforms. Matisse studied the robes she had with her, holding them up thoughtfully. There was no way she was going to wear those without anything underneath, that seemed like a bad idea to her.

"Do you think it's okay if I just put these on over everything else? Nobody would get mad or anything right?" She chewed her lip anxiously as she waited for Jaxon's response. "I don't want to get dress coded on my first day, but I also don't really like the idea of having nothing else under it."

Her nerves were starting to creep back up on her. They were nearly at the school, they had to be, and she had no idea what that would mean exactly. What did they do the first day? Get assigned to rooms and set up their stuff? How did meals work? When would she get her schedule? Would they have maps to make sure she didn't get lost trying to find her classes?

Jaxon looks outside the train window, watching the sky grow darker with the passing hours, he swings his leg slightly in his seat as they go along the train tracks, time flew by quick in their deep conversations and sharing of sweets, and now they are getting ever so closer to Hogwarts, finally, he couldn't wait, maybe he'll actually be able to get spells right, be able to impress his family, his parents, he hopes so, he really does.

Hearing the whispers and talking among the other passengers, he got up and got his robes, he looks to Matisse and nods, chuckling slightly "Of course... doesn't really matter what you wear... underneath." He informs her, putting his Hogwarts robes on, straightening them out, he opens the train's window and leans his head out to watch, they're approaching Hogsmeade Station very soon, and their final move to Hogwarts is almost time.

"Matisse.. come.. look." He calls her over, pointing ahead, they could see the station approaching, he puts his head back in to straighten his robes and get his luggage, he felt, quite a bit of excitement about this, he couldn't wait to start his teachings, and he hopes he'll do it besides Matisse.

Matisse got up and squeezed in at the window next to him, goggling at the look of Hogsmeade station up ahead of them in the dark. She'd read in a book that Hogsmeade was the only all magic town in the UK, and she tried to see if she could see any differences visually compared to other towns.

"We're so close!" she said excitedly. "What do you think happens once we get there? How far from the station do you think it is? Will we get to pick our rooms and roommates, do you think, or will it be assigned? Probably assigned, now that I think of it, if I ran a school I'd probably assign them...but do you think we will be sort of close to each other? I hope we are, you're the only person here I know," she said.

She was babbling, and the babbling made her words come out sloppier and more difficult to distinguish properly. Her pronunciation still wasn't the greatest even when she was being slow and careful. Her face felt hot with embarrassment as she pressed her lips together to keep herself from continuing to chatter on.

"S...sorry if that was too fast to understand," she said more slowly, doing her best to enunciate properly.

Jaxon moves over slightly so Matisse can fit next to him better to look outside, he listens to her talking as he watches the station approach even closer, they should probably get their heads back into the train before they knock it on something, that would be a very bad first day of school getting a concussion. Listening to her ramble made him smiles, and he shakes his head to her concern about being too fast.

"Don't be sorry... it's ok... you're excited." He reassures her before shrugging slightly as he brings his head back into the train and getting grabbing his luggage. "I'm not sure... my parents told me about it a bit... we have our four houses, from the founders of Hogwarts... Gryffindor, Hufflepuff.. Ravenclaw and.." He pauses slightly "Slytherin... I think they get their own dorms.. and they should be separated by gender in each dorm..." His family, stereotypically, have been in Slytherin, he never quite associate himself with them, so maybe he won't be Slytherin, he's a bit worried about not being in it if it means disappointing his parents. "I hope we do get in the same house... then we get to hang.. around a lot more."
